I absolutely loved this place, ordered the Penang street noodles, Chinese jerky and roti dessert. I'm not sure how traditional this place is? Like if a Malaysian person came I'm not sure how good they'd think it is or how true to Malaysian culture it holds but as non-Malaysian person I thought the food was dank. The Penang street noodles, wow. I know everybody eats them i played it safe but I mean it's popular for a reason. The Chinese jerky was pretty mid to me. I was craving something a little sweeter but the jerky is very salty & spicy up front. Which was good just not my mood. Also the roti for dessert wow. I love a good breast custard yay dessert and I mean. Chefs kiss. This is automatically my new favorite restaurant in DC & I feel like I've been to a good amount. Also I tried the bandung bhui based on sirap bandung & if you like a milkier drink. Highly recommend. The vibes were also super cool, at least at night it seemed like chill vibes where the cool professor at a university goes to + all the cool young hipsters. The service was chill? They were nice and quick, I feel like service can never be bad unless u fuck up pretty big. But it was chill. But overall great place def go

It was a business dinner. Was perfect. Great server and food came out at a good pace. The atmosphere is cool, contemporary, and comfortable. A great experience.
Be the first to ReplyWow! I cannot say enough great things about Makan.
Being someone new to Malaysian food, I wasn't sure what to expect. But I was blown away. Everybody who interacted with us was so kind and helpful without us needing to ask. Our server, Mohamed, was beyond insightful and intuitive. He helped us with multiple questions on the menu, gave us some of his recommendations, and even treated us to some champagne and dessert. Every plate we were done with was cleared immediately. We were even given extra rice or garnishes to help make our food exceptional. We are STUFFED and could not be happier. The restaurant was incredibly clean and there were so many staff members who were there to assist. The decor was simple and tasteful, and we felt incredibly at ease. I could go on much longer but enough words couldn't justify how much we appreciated this experience. Thank you, Makan, and we will be back!

The noodles were very spicy but the yuca was good.

Super delicious! The Ayam Goreng was amazing, and the Markisa cocktail was really unique. One of the best Malaysian/Indonesian restaurants I've been to! Definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyMy rating = 54 (food 39/75, ambiance 6/10, service 9/15).
(Lisa's rating = 50.) A somewhat mediocre tribute to Malaysian cuisine at a crowded table with a hip vibe. We ordered:1. Sate ayam* - chicken sate with peanut sauce2. Char kway teow - penang street noodles (flat rice noodle, Chinese sausage, shrimp, bean sprout, egg yolk)3. Ayam masak merah - chicken curry (dried chili, tomato, coconut milk, spices) 4. Roti & kaya* - roti canai (Malaysian flatbread) with pandan (green) coconut custard 5. Sago - tapioca pearls, gula melaka (palm sugar), coconut-pandan cream * = our favorites

The atmosphere, the staff, the food, the drinks - all incredible. We went with many of our waiter's recommendations and fell in love with it all. We've been itching to go for weeks and finally got the chance and were oh so satisfied. Go go go right now.

This has been my & my girlfriend's go-to restaurant for a few years now. A secret is that their brunch is actually even better than their dinner. Wonderful food, and very good service as well.

The cuisine was Malaysian inspired. The menu was kind of limited. The best dish on the menu that we tried was the street noodles. It was favorable, a hint of spice and well-balanced. The cocktails are different. I had a jungle bird, which resembles the national drink of Malaysia. I would like to go back to taste the confit fried chicken mixed rice and more of the fun cocktails for a quick dinner. The place is located across from The Coupe (classic simple brunch options) on 11th St. In DC. Of course, there were issues with parking..
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Malaysian restaurants I have ever been to.
This time I got the chili noodles, eggplant curry, and shrimp curry. The chili noodles were delicious. The small anchovies added great crunch and the noodles itself were so chewy and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish and would return just to taste it again. I enjoyed the 2 curries as well and think they pair well with each other. The eggplant isn't saucy which means the eggplant flavor really shines through. The shrimp curry had a unique chili paste flavor that I really enjoyed. Shrimp were cooked perfectly.
