🤢 2/5 - I ate at Maize last night and was thoroughly unimpressed

I ate at Maize last night and was thoroughly unimpressed and disappointed. The atmosphere wasn't welcoming at all -- it was cold and poorly lit, making us just want to eat and disappear. The food came out ridiculously fast and was bland with virtually no seasoning at all. The beers we got competed with each other for blandness. What really rubbed me the wrong way was that there were no condiments at all on the table -- no hot sauce, at a Mexican restaurant? -- and we even had to ask for salt and pepper. The salsa offered with the free chips was watery and nearly tasteless, though we were able to get a spicier one by asking. And this is so-called "Restaurant Week," when you expect every place to put its best foot forward. (Let's maybe change it to Restaurant Weak?) The place didn't seem understaffed (and our server was very attentive), but I suppose it saves labor not to have a lot of things on every table that need to be placed and replaced and cleaned up. It made me wonder whether I should stop eating out until restaurants wise up and stop all the corner-cutting that may have been understandable in the thick of the pandemic-- or else slash prices to better reflect what's being offered. Customers should not accept this as the "new normal."
