The food is outstanding! I would love to have something
The food is outstanding! I would love to have something similar back home, but until then, I'll have an excuse to visit Charleston. I wish I could remember my servers name because I would give him a shout-out. He did an outstanding job! The kind of service that would have me ask for him by name every time. The staff was very accommodating when they saw we had a stroller. We made reservations for 4 thinking we only needed 4 seats, but when they saw the stroller, they quickly moved us to a 5 top without hesitation so we would have more room and the staff would also be able to navigate better. Great service all around, and even better food. There's a reason we go every time we're in town and sometimes twice. Highly recommend the Cajun Mahi Mahi with shrimp and grits special if it's ever available. My wife had the fried chicken and loved it. We're going to try to learn how to make greens as good as they do. Kids had fried shrimp, which they enjoyed to the point they wouldn't share.

Lee is the GREATEST server/bartender I've ever had the honor of dining with in my life. Took my girl here for her birthday and Lee made it the most amazing experience we've ever had at a restaurant. He recommended the most amazing dishes and cocktails and they absolutely blew us away! He was making our drinks and let me tell you... best bartender I've met in my entire life. Saying Lee deserves a raise is an understatement. He made us fall in love with Magnolias and it will now be our go to spot for a fancy seafood dinner and cocktails. The atmosphere was chill even with a full packed house. Sitting at the high tops near the bar was perfect for us. We felt special that night all thanks to Lee.
Fried green tomatoes appetizer was the star of the show.
Very romantic ambiance. Service is good but nothing to write home about.
Must go
Excellent food and service! We loved our meal, scallop appetizer, fish boil, homemade pecan pie, and cinnamon toast ice cream. Best meal we had in Charleston! Must go!
Food good service ok
We stumbled across Magnolia since it was next to where we were parked. We were seated in the rear portion, past the kitchen pick up area. Service was a bit on the slow side, likely because the restaurant was near capacity and stressing out the kitchen. Atmosphere was great. Food was good. We had a chicken sandwich named after the sous chef (can’t remember his name) it was an interesting combination of flavors. I’d order again. Entrees sounded good as well but it was lunch. I’d eat here again, would try dinner. Oh and even though service was a bit slow, we left a 75% tip. Not the wait staff issue.
Wonderful place.
We've been coming to Charleston for 40 years and generally have Magnolia's on our list of restaurants to visit. There was a period a few years ago where they had a subpar menu and food quality but the last several years our visits have been excellent. We both had apps, crab cake and pimento cheese. Both excellent. The entree was the Halibut special and it was phenomenal placed over a shrimp-rice-veggie plate. As requested we had a perfect table for two at the window in a corner to celebrate our 41st anniversary. We will return and highly recommend it when you are in Charleston. Last but not least our server was outstanding, anticipating our needs even before we were aware!
Great dinning experience
The food and service were excellent! Cannot even begin to put into words how delicious everything we ordered was. Our server was very kind, helpful and attentive. My husband and I would 100% go back. Everything was absolutely amazing.
My Uber driver was spot on
In town from NY, we have a few reservations set to explore the great food of Charleston. We have been hearing about how amazing it is down here for ever. Finally made it here and on our Uber ride with Jerry..(X-NYer) to our Hotel, we got his personal recommendations. He asked where we were planning to go. Magnolia’s was not on our list and he said…”Best restaurant in Charleston”. 2hrs later, we found ourselves sitting at the bar because the place was jamming at 1PM. Not one table seat available. I’m thinking… ok this place is the real deal. We split a burger, a crab cake and the Brussel sprouts. This may sound crazy, but all three might have been the BEST I have ever had. We are absolutely going for dinner before we leave.
This was our favorite restaurant experience of our entire
This was our favorite restaurant experience of our entire Charleston family vacation. I was fortunate enough to dine here with my family for Father's Day and it was wonderful. The staff was great, and helped us out with any needs that we had. The interior of this restaurant is very classy and has a rich, old charm. It wasn't too loud or quiet but just perfect. The best part about our experience here was the exceptional food. We started off with the Spicy Shrimp and Sausage with grits for an Appetizer, which was quite a bit different than your run-of-the-mill shrimp and grits. They used gravy in this recipe which was quite different, but it was very good. For entrees, we ordered the Parmesan Crusted Market Catch, which was flounder, and it was terrific. Additionally, we ordered the special which was a crusted Corvina fish on top of collard greens and cheesy grits. Both of these were very delicious. This was certainly our best meal in Charleston and a wonderful Father's Day, meal. I recommend Magnolias to anybody coming to Charleston.
Anniversary night celebration
We were looking for a special place to celebrate our anniversary and not necessarily a steak house. The meal was delicious. The service was impeccable. Fresh catch was great and the fried chicken scrumptious. So worth it! Get your reservation in.
My husband and I ate at Magnolia's for lunch.
We walked in and were pleased to see such an upscale restaurant. The ambiance was awesome. White linen tablecloths and napkins, beautiful artwork on the walls and waitstaff dressed in white and black. They looked and acted so professional! Cora was our server and was very attentive to our needs. Although I had ate crab cakes the night before, we both got the crab cake sandwich. I chose sweet potato fries for my side and my husband chose the peach jalapeño coleslaw and it was divine! We chose and shared the red velvet bread pudding for desert and it did not disappoint. It was topped with strawberry cheesecake ice cream. The flavors were outstanding! We highly recommend Magnolia's and know you won't be disappointed!
Average Brunch
Came for bunch. They brought out some bread that was absolutely delicious! Unfortunately, that was the best part of the meal. We were seated near the water station for waiters and waitresses so felt like the staff was always hovering right on top of us. I got the country fried steak. The grits were really good but biscuits and steak were just okay. The steak was too greasy. My wife got shrimp and sausage with grits. The grits were too runny for our taste. The sausage was really good. Overall, an average brunch experience.
I've had this place on my list for quite a while and it
I've had this place on my list for quite a while and it lived up to my expectations!! The martinis were prime, the filet with pimento cheese was to die for, and the wedge was great! Our service was quick and good too. The inside was beautiful. I will say, my only complaint was something not exactly in the restaurants control... after we finished eating a large palmetto bug (cockroach) crawled up alongside the wall next to where we were sitting. Someone was quick to dispose of it. But it was disgusting and i'm glad we already ate! I don't want to blame the restaurant for that, but it was slightly unsettling.

My husband and I took a trip to Charleston for our 30th wedding anniversary. Magnolias came highly recommended. Simple, classy interior. Our waiter was wonderful. He had great advice on menu selections and wine. I love deviled eggs and had to give them a try. The dill pickle add a great little kick. My meal was the Parmesan Encrusted Market Catch. Everything about this dish was delicious. The pièce de résistance was dessert, a red velvet bread pudding with strawberry cheesecake ice cream. I am southern born and raised, and red velvet cake is a staple. This bread pudding did not disappoint.
Magnolias was how we spent our last day in Charleston, and
Magnolias was how we spent our last day in Charleston, and boy was it a great decision. Our reservation was at 11:30a, and the restaurant did not open the doors until exactly 11:30a, so we waited outside for about 10 minutes in the heat. 20 other people were waiting, so we had to all cram inside while everyone waited on the one host stand to seat us all. I thought this organization was poor and did not enjoy sweating - but, first world problems. However, everything after being seated couldn't have gone better. The food was impeccable and so full of flavor. The fried green tomatoes were a WOW. So delicious and definitely worth trying. The fish of the day and scallops and grits had nice southern touches to them. Our server, Chuck, did a great job taking care of us and providing recommendations. The inside had a nice vibe about it and we enjoyed our time. Highly recommend.

We had a reservation and they took us earlier! It has an amazing ambience inside, lots of amazing paintings and different decorations. It makes me feel like I'm inside a cute house. Our waitress was very personable and always made sure we were doing alright. We ordered a ton of food! Fried Green Tomatoes, Homemade Chips, Pimiento Cheese. All appetizers are HUGE except the Fried Green Tomatoes - we felt that is the size of a normal appetizer. Shrimp and Grits are THE BEST!!! The Waldorf Salad was good as well. Finally, dessert! The Pecan Pie was out of this world. Overall, an amazing experience for our last night in Charleston!
High praise is all earned
Everything positive you read about this restaurant matches our experience here. The food and drinks are very high quality and come with excellent service. Get reservations & go. Talk to your server before ordering and pay attention to the daily specials. Only issue we had was that our pecan pie to-go came with ice cream (and it was 90 degrees outside)?
Great service and crab cake heavan
This was one of the best dining experiences we had in Charleston. Our server Charles started off the experience. He was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The star of the show was the crab cake appetizer. We each ordered one to start. They were the BEST crab cakes we ever had. The combination of the sweet corn fricassee and crab cake was like an addiction. We couldn't get enough so we ordered more for our dinner. They also have the best bread which is served warm and accompanied by a delicious butter cream cheese spread. We will be back for more. Thank you
Southern charm!
Beautiful setting, service and menu! We loved the fried green tomatoes, the pimento cheese and the fried chicken! A delicious southern inspired offering. Plates were elegant, service was polished. Great wine and cocktail offerings.
Still our absolute favorite in Charleston!
This is always the first restaurant we book when we come back to Charleston. The reason is simple.......always excellent food and a wait staff to match. And it is located in a beautiful old (1700's) building. There were four of us and each ordered a different entree and appetizer. And all were superb. In fact, one in our group said that this might very well have been the best dinner he's ever had in his life. Another in our group ordered a gluten-free meal. She was really impressed that a separate server brought out her meal, assuring her that everything on the plate was gluten-free.
Very nice place with a great bar.
Service was excellent as was the food. Fresh flounder for my wife and a wonderful steak for me. Very nice bartender and everything went perfectly. It wasn't busy early so we ended eating at the bar and chatting it up Lee the barman .A fun evening. You will need reservations here as most places in Charleston.

Great meal, we ate there twice while in Charleston and loved the atmosphere, service & the food.
Service was awesome! Riche was great.
Food was delicious. The southern egg rolls are a must try. Loved the catch of the day, Parmesan encrusted flounder! Highly recommend.
Best food
Food was unique and excellent! We did not have reservations so went to bar. Had to split up our party but was well worth it. Had the catch of the day which was flounder. Hubby had fried chicken also great choice.

My family and I really enjoyed dining at this restaurant, the service was very welcoming and helpful. There was plenty of space and not a long wait during the lunch crowd. I had the fried chicken which was delicious and so were the brussel sprouts! Highly recommend
The food here is amazing! All around an great experience.
We got the shellfish and grits and the jambalaya, both fantastic. Service was wonderful and it was super fun to get to see downtown Charleston as well.

2nd time coming to the restaurant and I had to get the shrimp and grits again! The apps were amazing and the drinks were dry! (In a good way) when in Charleston you don't pass on dessert! The servers were amazing and had great recommendations! Very big inside but you can still hear your table! Very pretty ambiance
Went as a party of 6 had amazing service and food.
The fried green tomatoes was amazing. The fish fresh catch was delish. My husband had fried chicken that was delish and moist. We loved the food.

Having visited Charleston numerous times and having returned to Magnolias each time I can't believe I have not posted a review. Aesthetically, it is a beautiful restaurant with backdrops of local art and scenery. Thus far I have tried the fried chicken sandwich, the fried green tomatoes, buffalo chicken salad and the Arnold Palmer- all of which are exceptional. It is a white table cloth restaurant with excellent service. Highly recommend it.

Good variety on the menu, we had 8:30 reservations and our table was ready. Appetizer of fried green tomatoes with a butter sauce over grits, that was the best dish of the night. Buttermilk fried chicken, best if this dish was the collard greens/delicious- the chicken wasn't seasoned well/bit dry and the most fattiest breast of chicken, I kept biting into undercooked fatty skin instead of crispy skin/breading- maybe just an off night. Salads - meh, duck - meh. Pecan pie was delicious. Service was great, ambiance was nice which were deep wood rafters and nice lighting. 3.5 stars overall
A Classic Southern Cooking restuarant
Tradition is an understatement for this home of southern cooking - from the expected fried green tomatoes to the grits, Magnolias epitimizes the glory of souther cooking. A good experience for a good presentation of what is expected, right down to our server who has been there for decades and has his recommendations memorized.
We went for lunch on a Saturday.
We made reservations but our plans changed and they were able to seat us earlier than our reservations. Wonderful service all around. We had seafood over grits and the chicken sandwich. Wonderful wine list and our server made great wine and cocktail suggestions. Everything was great.
Beautiful, Delicious, Elegant
Magnolia's came highly recommended by a former resident of Charleston. We stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner. We had the crab bisque, salads and dessert. The ambiance is great. Such a beautiful restaurant. The staff was very professional and friendly. Our food was great even though we kept it simple. The pecan pie was so delicious. Treat yourself to an elegant meal while in Charleston.
Southern Sensation
Beautiful southern charm in the heart of historic Charleston. We had a reservation. We were seated promptly. Our server was amazing. He went through the menu with us and made recommendations. The food came quickly and was outstanding. From the appetizers, to the entrees, to the desserts. Everything was delicious. This place is a gem. We will be back!
Oh ya, it’s your birthday…..
Surprised that our birthday dinner out didn’t feel remotely like a birthday celebration. There was no mention of it by the waiter until I pointed it out before dessert saying that we wanted to split the crème brûlée for our birthday. He seemed surprised like he just remembered and while there was a candle in the dessert there was no writing or indication of what we were celebrating. Many of the other restaurants we’ve been to would’ve done a champagne toast or at least comped the ONE dessert off the check. The food was delicious but I left feeling just a little dissatisfied.
Classic Southern Cooking
Yes, classic, because like just about every upscale Charleston restaurant, the chef pairs just about every dish with meat. Luckily, there are vegetarian options, which were fine. Everyone loved their meal.
A Must
Had the shellfish and grits, low country egg roll. Hubby had local flounder(?). Every perfectly seasoned fresh and very tasty. Service was great with friendly server. A must.
Lunch
Wonderful lunch visit. Mac our waiter was attentive. Food was excellent. Lowcountry menu. The BLT was excellent. The cornbread croutons were excellent on the Caesar salad.
Great food and service
We have not been here for many years but wanted a certain item on the menu. Our server was very attentive and the meal was outstanding.
Mediocre food, but great reputation.
Food is mediocre. Service was great. Restaurant was packed, but we’re now looking for other options. Compared to our favs in Ohio. Doesn’t compare.
Food was amazing but the service, specifically our server
Food was amazing but the service, specifically our server Brock was incredible and seriously made my moms birthday! She felt so special and overall it was just a lovely ambiance. We have been to many restaurants in the city and somehow had always missed this one. Definitely will be back soon though!!

HIGHLY recommend Magnolias as part of your visit to Charleston. My boyfriend and I had our first night dinner here and we were blown away! Service was top notch - friendly and attentive. I got the short ribs and they were so delicious. Such a good dish! We got the pecan pie for dessert as per our waiter's recommendation and it was the cherry on top!I wish the lighting wasn't as bright / super white light as it was but the ambiance overall is really cute for a date night while you're in Charleston.I recommend you put this on your list of places to try!
Delious food and great service!
We didn't realize that reservations for dinner in Charleston is a must. Fortunately, on a Sunday, we were able to get a table in the bar area without a reservation. It is definitely a popular restaurant.

Enjoyed brunch - everyone enjoyed their meal, service was outstanding and loved the overall feel of the restaurant - very quaint.
Go where the locals go.
Our favorite nice place to eat when in Charleston. Food is always good as is the service. Our wait staff was great and the manager stoped by to see how everything was. Only thing we were disappointed in was the banana pudding cake. Not hood. Everything else was Great.

Excellent food! Service was a little slow however I was not in a rush so all was good. I had the short rib and it was melt in your mouth. Portions are perfect. I also had the fires green tomatoes as an app and they make them a little upscale than what most people may be used to. They were delicious.
Lovely ambiance and excellent food, we had the deviled
Lovely ambiance and excellent food, we had the deviled eggs, pimento cheese, pork tenderloin, filet, braised short rib and cat fish. Our entire group of six raved about their meals. Shining star of evening was the service, Melinda was incredible. Gracious and prompt and engaging. All around 10 out of 10.
Excellent lunch
We had two sandwiches; both were very good. The place was packed on a Saturday afternoon, need a reservation. Service was very good but somewhat slow.
The restaurant was booked out and our group of 6 sat
The restaurant was booked out and our group of 6 sat separately at the bar. The bar tender and the other patrons sitting at the bar worked together to get us all sitting together. It was the sweetest thing! The food was yummy too!
