Food and service were excellent.
A little hard to find but worth it. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing, honestly probably the best sushi not just in Triangle but in NC! The atmosphere and food are equally terrific.

All good things must come to end There seems to have been a recent change in management and the current staff don't know the menu all that well. My issue was with the donburi, which we asked for without wasabi. We noticed that there was no tako in the dish and when we asked the waitress about it, she claimed that it was in there! The upper management was only able to clarify after checking with the chefs. Super weird that they didn't know or mention that taking out the wasabi meant no tako. The crudo and crispy tuna was not bad. We finished with the yuzu semifreddo which was way too sour. Overall, the experience here is a shadow of what it was in the past. Service was slow too. The new Cary location is much better

Delicious food! I took my adults (offspring - can't bring myself to refer to them as children) here for a special dinner. Everyone was so happy with their meal. My son had the bento and enjoyed it all, daughter and hubby had the chef choice sushi flights and really enjoyed everything. I select pieces of sushi, sashimi and rolls that I wanted to try! Every bite was delicious, so good in fact that I added two pieces of the tuna belly sashimi to my hubby's take out order (final four game, you know priorities). Hot tea and miso soup to start, they have a nice selection of Japanese beers. Here's the thing, my kids both have shellfish allergies and additionally my daughter has egg and nut allergies too. Every thing came to the table perfectly, they adjusted their flight and bento accordingly. It's hard to eat out and trust no cross contamination but they've eaten there before without issue. This is huge for me. Great sushi, good service experience and care in food handling! It's a win, win, win!

10/10 Fantastic experience! I say experience because dining in M Sushi is not only about food (which don't get me wrong- is top notch, made with the freshest fish possible). If you go there for a date you should definitely sit on the bar and have the Omakase. We ordered the lite one. The chef brings you each piece separately and explains what it is. Watching the chefs working in complete harmony without even having to talk to one another is like watching a theatrical performance. Also, I have to say that each piece of sushi was better and more tasty than the previous one! Our server was extremely friendly and helpful as well! She seemed to truly enjoy working there. The drinks available were on the pricier side but that is to be expected. Be prepared to pay for the quality you get, I would say that the bill will come to around 120 per person depending what you get. Definitely recommend!
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi I have had in a long time, maybe ever.
All the staff was amazing, excellent service (Emily) and each course was a work of art.
Be the first to ReplyHands down the best Sushi in the triad.
I would stack this against any "big" city sushi restaurant. The Grand Omakase seems pricey but is a fabulous experience. The Lite Omakase is a great choice as well. Fourth visit here and never been disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyWe had heard a lot about how good the food was.
In my opinion the food was mediocre at best. The service and ambiance was great.

I have been waiting to eat here! Making a reservation is the way to go. However, my sister and I were able to walk in at 5:30pm on a Weekday and able to get a seat. Their sushi rolls are large. I had the bento box, which had a wide assortment of seafood. It included a crunchy seaweed salad, sashimi, an assortment of sushi, a potato croquette, and eel with rice. It was $45-50. I was full and enjoyed the moody ambiance and delicious seafood. It is expensive, but I loved the food, so I would give it a 5 out of 5!

My favorite sushi spot in Durham! Stopped by after trying takeout from here once but dining in was a different experience. Our server, Maddie, was superb! The chefs and interior design created a welcoming atmosphere. She gave us her recommendation for lunch sets and both were amazing options. To start, we ordered the crudo - salmon and tuna sashimi with crispy lotus root and a sweet and tangy ponzu. For mains, I ordered the bento box ($33) and my boyfriend got the sushi deluxe ($29). Both were served with a variety of fresh and high quality fish. The details down to the wasabi and flavors made it SO worth it. Each piece was buttery, delicate, and melted in your mouth! The bento box came with unagi don, potato croquette, 4 sashimi, 4 spicy roll pieces, 3 nigiri, and seaweed arugula salad. Every dish was well balanced and complimented each other in textures and flavors. I will definitely be coming here often! The bento box was the sushi lunch combo I've ever had at a sushi restaurant! Would highly recommend checking out M Sushi!
Be the first to ReplyI had a relaxing and delicious dinner here with my sister.
This place was amazing in terms of food, service, and ambience. We ordered a dinner bento along with a Futomaki roll. The pot of green tea was a nice complement to the meal. Server also was very courteous and available when needed. Lastly, ambience and decoration of this restaurant was very calming and would be a lovely place to go with a date or a friend. Just FYI - would recommend reservations prior to coming.

A must get !!! The sushi here was absolutely amazing, and food was served quickly. If you're looking to be a bit adventurous... I would try the eel and foie gras roll. Would come here again!

I ventured to Durham with my girlfriend over the weekend, and had to hunt down a sushi place for us for lunch, of course. M Sushi is located down a cobblestone pathway in between buildings, for those who have never been before. It's easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. We arrived around 11:30am, and I'm glad we did. Within thirty minutes, the place was packed! The hostess was friendly, and asked us if we had a reservation or were a walk in. I figured it had to be good if they took lunch reservations. We opted to sit at the sushi bar. At most sushi bars you can't actually see the chefs making sushi. Usually the "wall" divider is too high. This isn't the case here. It's high enough to keep your germs out but you could still see the sushi prep, which is pretty cool.My girlfriend ordered the Twisted Mango roll, and I ordered the Tuna Special roll with soup and salad. The soup came in the traditional soup bowl but with a lid, which I've never seen before. Something small but the (miso) soup was nice and hot and had a really good flavor. The salad was a bed of small arugula greens topped with seaweed and a delicious homemade ginger dressing. I personally didn't care for the seaweed on top, but that's strictly a personal preference. The dressing was absolutely wonderful, fresh and small chunks of ginger. The Twisted Mango roll was fresh and light and spicy. You can reduce the heat by removing the jalapeño on top, but frankly, it adds a nice flavor to it, even if my lips were still on fire thirty minutes later! The Tuna Special was also delicious, though more savory and filling than the Twisted Mango. Both were delicious though. My girlfriend always asks for a side of spicy mayo, and I always ask for a side of Thai sweet chili. At M Sushi, they have a sauce that's a combo of both, and we loved it! The meal was fantastic and service was great. The restrooms were clean, with a nice watermelon scent from a candle they had burning. Overall I really liked the interior vibe of the restaurant. It was like being in a swanky basement, simple decor and excellent food. The sushi chefs were constantly busy, and with there being 7 of them, there was always something to see. I look forward to going back and trying some new things next time.
Be the first to ReplyPacked house for lunch today.
Arrived at 11:30 and thankfully snagged two seats at the sushi bar. We enjoyed the lunch special rolls (Twisted Mango & Tuna Special) both of which were delicious and comes with a cup of hot miso soup & seaweed arugula salad. Friendly, helpful service and I love watching them create sushi works of art from the sushi bar! Great ambience; casual vibe for lunch but would also be a great spot for a dinner date during the evening. Thanks for a nice sushi lunch!
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding!! One of the best sushi places in the Triangle.
We went there two Saturdays ago after attending a show at DPAC in Durham. It's located in a basement of a building where you have to walk down and alley to get to. The atmosphere and vibe here are really cool. Our server was great and gave us many recommendations prior to ordering. We started off with some drinks. My wife had a glass of Prosecco. I went with the Rosemary Lime Smash. It was good. Next we got the Dumplings (scallop mousse, lobster & truffle emulsion) and the Tuna, crispy rice, marinated octopus, avocado and truffled soy. Both dishes were delicious. Next up was the Lobster Shabu Shabu!! The lobster was fresh, sweet, tender and the sauce was tasty. For entrees I went with the Nigiri Omakase and she went with two specialty rolls that I can't remember. However, she said it was awesome. We enjoyed our experience immensely at M Sushi and will definitely return in the future.

M Sushi is a MUST TRY if you live in the triangle area and enjoy sushi of any kind. The food is absolutely gourmet, can't get enough, flavorful as anything I've every had. Everything we have EVER ordered and tried here is insanely delicious. You really cannot go wrong. It is a little on the pricey side, but that's because of the quality of the food. You get what you pay for. Sometimes it is a little difficult to get a table, especially without a reservation. However, it is certainly worth the wait!

Great sushi and friendly staff! If you are in the Durham area I highly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyBeen here several times for work lunches.
Great sushi - nigiri and maki. I usually do an assortment or bento box. Prices aren't cheap but are fair for good sushi. It's in a little basement space that's not really impressive, but the food shines.
Be the first to ReplyHad an amazing meal at M Sushi Durham.
We got the Nigiri Omakase which is 13 pieces of traditional sushi with specialty ingredients, chef's special Temaki of the day and house made Tamago. The sushi chef will prepare and serve the Nigiri one piece at a time so you can enjoy and savor the uniqueness of the flavor of each fish. It is definitely an experience worth trying. If you enjoy fresh fish without the fluff that comes in a sushi roll then Nigiri Omakase is for you. M Sushi uses fresh and quality fish so you won't be disappointed with anything you get there. Reservations are highly recommended because they get busy!!

Food was delicious and so were the drinks! The lunch specials are a good deal and the ambiance was amazing. The only thing is it's a little hard to find if you don't know where you're going but trust your map and find it - because this is a place you don't want to miss!

Best sushi in the triangle, by far!! I enjoyed the feel of the space, too. We had a lovely server that talked us through the lite omakase and what each course had in it. I can't wait to go back!

You have to hand it to them, they nailed the 'if-you-know-you-know' aesthetic: A single door in a cobbled alleyway with no sign save the fabric fringe with a print of fish. Inside, the wooden rafters and trussing look original and they even managed to fit a modern fire suppression system in without disrupting the look. It's exactly the layout you expect and want from an American sushi spot, half bar and half booth. The selection is good and includes a surprising amount of vegan offerings; nice to have a spot that can please a mixed group. Many of their traditional rolls can be had without avocado for those of prefer it. I will particularly call out the tamago for being light, sweet, and just a touch earthy in the best way.But I appreciated the one thing above all else: the green tea. Cloudy, sweet, and grassy, it confidently stands just the edge of the cliff overlooking a valley of over-leaved and over-steeped teas without descending into the abyss. Easily the best pot I have had in a restaurant in years.Edit for typo
