Worth a visit for the ambience, but don't expect to get what you ordered!
Luk Yu has a classic old Hong Kong ambience, and most of the patrons appeared local. The dim sum is of of above average quality. The main problem is the service ..the waiters are very off-hand, and of the three savory dim sum dishes we ordered only one of the 3 arrived, while one we did not order was delivered instead (a noodle soup). We complained and another was brought - the same as the first one. So we gave up. Price was high, at HK$500.
Be the first to ReplyI would never go pack even if they paid me!
Very old fashion restaurant for locals and Chinese tourists that should be completely avoid if you want to enjoy a dim sum lunch and don’t want to waste your money, and your time. I love eating and I am not picky but here I literally did not dare to try three steam dim sum that we ordered (please see photos). Except a couple of dishes, the rest of the dim sum had nothing to do with what we were expecting. Please find something else!
Be the first to ReplyPricey Dim Sum
PRICEY FOR ORDINARY DIM SUM The interior decor of this dim sum restaurant located at Central area of Hong Kong is beautiful. I ordered six types of dim sum and they are tasty. Of these 6, only the liver with meat dish is more unique. However, the price didn’t come cheap. This meal cost about HK 540, which I think is a bit high for the food quality. There are other dim sum restaurants for this price range.

Overpriced and underwhelming! Highly recommend you skip it, there are just so many better choices in HK. Dim som was fine, but nothing memorable or spectacular! Here for a week, this is the only restaurant we regret choosing !
Be the first to ReplyDon’t bother
Service was really weird. I was told there is no table available but the other side of the area had empty tables. I saw locals coming in after and sat at the table so I thought it was only for regular customers. After waiting for awhile, another waiter approached and asked if I needed a table and was seated. So strange. Really felt tourists are not welcomed and food is really expensive for dim sum. Not worth the time
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best dim sum in Hong Kong
A friend recommended me this place which is one of the most poplular dim sum restaurants in Hong Hong. It is within walking distance from the Central station. They do not take bookings so try not to come during peak hours. The siew mai, pork ribs, beef siew mai, lotus leaf rice were very good. The 粉粿 , 韭菜盒 were a bit bland & underwhelming. Price is on the high side. The dim sum here cost HKD68 to HKD110 per portion. Expect to pay more when you are here.
Be the first to ReplyAn Unforgettable Old Hong Kong Experience
Excellent ambience of a nostalgic era of old Hong Kong. Food is typical old Cantonese style. A HK institution & a must try experience. I’ve brought my children , family and friends here for the past few decades & it’s always a pleasure,
Be the first to ReplyLovely food and good service in old world charm Lok Yu
Table of ten casual business lunch. I was hosting the occasion and the restaurant did everything right for me. A good table ready to go for the lunch. They let me set up place card names and the waiters came over to familerise themselves with what I wanted. I ordered for the table and the food came out at a sensible pace (not all at once). Hot water for tea was snappily refilled and the the restaurant had a nice noisy chatter to truly enjoy the dim sum vibe. I’d give all the dim sum top marks. Everything was delicious and as good as I’ve had. The best part is the atmosphere. Old world charm and old world waiters serving good food. What I like most about Lok Yu is unlike many HK dim sum places it’s not overly air conditioned (so you’re not sitting freezing in some foul damp cold air) and the waiters just bring food and clear plates a with a pleasant manner. Not the usual surly smash and bash of many places with plates and slops being crashed into trolleys as you’re trying to dine.

A traditional yum cha or dim sum restaurant in Central. Busy during lunchtime due to office crowd but it’s only a short wait. Food is pretty good. Service not as bad as feared
Be the first to ReplyRude cashier with arrogant attitude
My mom and I had a nice day visiting Hong Kong, trying popular restaurants and foods. After we had dinner, we walked passed this tea house which my mom wish to try. There was supposed to be a $7 change. The waiter never brought us the change back. I asked the cashier before we left the restaurant. The cashier, looked at us from head to toes with an arrogant face, saying “our guests never ask for change. It is fine you ask. I can give you.” And then she lazily put out $7, and repeated the sentence several times “our guest never ask for change”. All of a sudden, our money that are supposed to be given to us proactively, become something that she “kindly” give to us. As a global traveler who live in the UK, I reckon this attitude is rarely seen. With all honesty, It is fine that they don’t give change, but a well mannered staff would know how to handle the situation properly. The cashier, unfortunately, chose the rudest way.
Be the first to ReplySkip … horrible service with passable food
Finally decided to come here after hearing some positive reviews. Got in and sat down… an elderly server asked for choice of tea. Asked for the typical blends which weren’t in stock. Server decided to ignore me and serve an expensive blend only for me to find out upon the bill is presented. Food was alright but you can easily get better elsewhere. Don’t bother.
Be the first to ReplyWell worth a visit
We were recommended Luk Yu Tea House by friends. It is very much a tale of four parts. Firstly, the food. Good but nothing special. The tea was delicious. Secondly, the serving staff were excellent and just a little quirky in a really good way - reminded us very much of the much-missed staff of the now sadly closed American Restaurant. Thirdly, ridiculously expensive for the food actually received but I can forgive that because… Fourthly, and the only reason we would really return, the customers and the atmosphere. You can see all of its years of tradition and why it still exists today. I have never in my life, anywhere in the world, seen such an utterly mesmerising bunch of people in one place. I was the only westerner present and I am not an artist but I would have loved to have been able to photograph all of the customers and staff alike, a truly amazing collection. There seemed to be stories everywhere, from the obvious artists sitting at the next table to the businessman reading his financial paper and the two ladies who were obviously very good friends. The faces were fascinating and the non-stop chatter was like music. I would urge people to go but know this is no cheap local eatery.

Used to go to this restaurant a lot when I was small as a senior relative of mine was a shareholder and this restaurant was his canteen. Stopped going there since some 25 years ago when my relative passed away. Began to visit this restaurant again about a year ago when my daughter was back from UK and had not been to this restaurant. Since then, it had become one of our favourite Chinese restaurants as we are impressed by the quality of the ingredients, the natural flavor of the food, traditional signature dishes and the soups it serves. The dishes we like include deep fried sliced grouper in corn sauce and sweet and sour pork. These are simple dishes but so far, to us, only one or two restaurants cook them really well (Luk Yue included). My daughter says the sliced groper in corn sauce reminded her of her childhood as this was a dish which our first maid would cook for her when she was a little child. Its roasted Yunnan ham is the best in town and is a must try. You can have it with sliced pigeon or chicken or on its own. On my latest visit, I was particularly impressed with its fried pho with shrimp and scrambled egg which is not oily at all. Most Chinese restaurants cooked fried pho dishes with lots of oil even if you had specifically asked them not to. The dessert we had was also yummy, i.e. glutinous rice cake with sesame paste inside. We like their desserts as they are not so sweet, have a lot of variety to choose from and many are quite unique too. The menu is changed every two weeks. The prices this restaurant charges is very reasonable too. Just to give one example, for sliced pork with bitter melon (a dish we like and ordered almost every meal if the restaurant served it), a nearby restaurant well known for its roast goose (which we used to go very often but hardly since last year) charges HK$240 whilst this restaurant charges HK$200 but the portion it serves is almost double the size of the nearby restaurant. More importantly, it tastes better and is less oily than the other restaurant too. Once you have been there a few times so that you are no longer a total stranger, you could also bring your own live seafood for them to cook for you. All it charges is a cooking fee of a few hundred Hong Kong dollars. Many restaurants will not do that as they make money from selling fresh seafood by charging a price easily at three times the cost. If you know a particular waiter well, he would also go down to the Aberdeen market to buy the freshest seafood for you during his afternoon break to cook in the restaurant in the evening so that there is no need for you to go there yourself. Its signature soup, pig’s lungs with Almond, is a very famous traditional soup and is available throughout the year. It is well known for being good for the lungs and is probably the best in town also. You can ask them to serve only the soup without the pig’s lungs if you don’t eat them. In this way, you will get more soup. This was what we were told by the waiters when they saw that they did not eat the ingredients but only the soup. Apart from the signature soup, they have a daily soup which changes daily. In addition, they also have another soup which it serves all year round. This is like a home cooked soup, i.e. fish broth with tomato, potatoes and sliced pork. You could also ask them to cook ‘instant’ soup for you from whatever ingredients they have in their kitchen. Just you name it and if they have it, they will cook it for you. The soup we ordered on last visit was sliced pork, tomato, thousand years egg with coriander. We had wanted to add tofu too but the waiter advised us not to because it would mean HK$20 more but less soup as the serving bowl could only contain extra ingredient at the expense of less soup and the waiter told us it was not worth it. The soup tasted really yummy. Other instant soups we often ordered were (1) mustard leaf, salty egg and sliced pork and (2) sliced goby, thousand year egg with coriander. These are home cooked soups popular for curing sore throat, a problem which I often had. Many people do not like this restaurant because they feel the service is bad and it is so difficult to get a table but the waiters are in fact quite nice and friendly. I remember even during our first few visits last year when we were unfamiliar faces the different waiters who served us on different floors were already quite nice and friendly to us. They took the initiative to talk to us and were concerned that we had ordered too much food that we could not finish and the food would be wasted. Soon they found out their concerns were unnecessary as we enjoyed and finished all the dishes. Somehow, this restaurant has a family feel to us and invariably, we would go there for their soup. It is definitely a place worth visiting but just note that they only serve their regular customers during their rush hours from 12 noon to 2 pm. So the best time to go there is to avoid those hours or try to become a regular customer there.
Be the first to ReplyTraditional decor, limited dim sum selection.
Loved the traditional style decorations of this place. Food selections for morning dim sum is limited. No cheung fun. This is a surprise. Service is ok. Pricing of the dim sum is slightly on the expensive side.
Pls note although there is 10% service charge added to the bill, according to the staff they do not get this. So you will need to pay cash in order for the waitress to get the tip.
Fantastic dim sum and tea
Fantastic dim sum and tea experience. This is how it should be I think, lovely small plates of restaurant made dim sum, paired with your individual choice of tea. Served in antique and calm surroundings that is a million miles away from noisy HK streets or the bling of modern giant dim sum restaurants. This is a spot for calmer conversation over a tea (served the traditional way dependent on the type of tea you want, green, white, red, fermented etc). White table clothes and genteel wait staff add a touch of ‘old HK club’ feel to the Chinese tea and dim sum food experience.
Be the first to ReplyLittle Mario's Pizzeria
When i was just ready for going home from work, my mum inform me that she need to take a rest tonight. Therefore, she told me to prepare my dinner. I just dont wanna cook. So i dated my husband for dinner.
We went to Little Mario's Pizzeria. The decoration there was very stylish and the seats were comfotable. The staffs are friendly. They actively introduce the menu to us.
We orderered Mocha, pineapple oolong shaken tea, spicy vegetable samosus, Truffles carbonara and Chicken Tikka Pizza.
The pineapple Oonlong tea is fresh and appetizing. The Mocha is amazing and very creamy.
The samosus and the Pizza are of indian style which amazed me a lot. I will surely come back for one more Tikka pizza.
Little Mario's Pizzeria
Mocha
Waiter
Pizza
Malasa
Mozzarella cheese

Authentic but a bit expensive
Decided to eat here for a quick lunch with family after roaming around Hong Kong Island and before making our way to the airport. Got ushered to the upper floor (I think foreigners get herded there?), service was quick and a bit impersonal, English language menu available, dimsum was delicious but a bit expensive.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic & nostalgic dim sums with high standards
If one wants to experience the very old style of Chinese dim sum restaurant which offers authentic & high standard food, this is a definite choice on top of the list. It’s pig’s lung almond soup is a must try & very rich & yummy. The baked chicken rice in dry scallop sauce was very flavourful while chicken was tender & juicy. The fish maw & pan-fried pepper in shrimp paste were of high standards. The steamed beef ball was a very old style dim sum which I didn’t like as much when I was young but I love it now. What was not as good was the steamed shrimp dumpling since the wrapping was a bit rough in texture. Of course, the overall price tag was not cheap but acceptable.
