Lugeck Wien Reviews
Delicious food with great service
We were in the city center and came here for the famous Viennese schnitzel. We were not disappointed. The portions were very large. Others in our group enjoyed the steak sandwich and said it was wonderful. We started our meal with the signature bread with caramelized butter and it was incredible. The water was flavored with mint and it was refreshing. Our service was impeccable. We did not have reservations so we sat inside but we were next to the full wall-sized windows that opened so we felt like we were outside. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Typical Austrian food in Wien
Great typical food and excellent service (thanks to Enin). The best schnitzel, good beer in the very center of Wien. Great
Food just passable, not worth the price.
Came here as Figlmuller Backerstrasse was full. Should not have. Food just passable. Service was good. Expensive for the quality and I can see why it was empty. We had wiener schnitzel, salad, a spritz and a hibiscus drink. €138 bill. Eating at the Vrasseroe of The Guesthouse Hotel 3 mins away by foot would have been a better choice.
The Figlmüller Lugeck restaurant no longer values Austrian
The Figlmüller Lugeck restaurant no longer values Austrian guests. After having several business dinners at this restaurant with a reservation for a table in the garden and always being satisfied, it seems that the policy of the management has now changed. It now seems to be no longer possible to reserve a table in the garden, not even by paying a deposit, even though we were personally on site. It seems as if less value is now placed on Austrian guests or business people. The focus now appears to be more on quick revenue from tourists. I find the decision of the management to be extremely regrettable.

We were traveling with a couple that was gluten-free and dairy free. The waiter was very accommodating and explained anything could be made to her liking. Our friend had never had Wienerschnitzel and was able to enjoy it because they made it in a separate pan gluten-free. She was very pleased as were we were with our dishes. The weight staff was great. The food was fresh.
We chose this restaurant because of the gluten free options.
There aren't many to choose from, but my daughter has Celiac Disease. She is very sensitive to gluten, and has very painful reactions if her food is not properly prepared. Our waiter seemed dismissive when she asked him to note her allergy for the kitchen. Her steak arrived very undercooked which is a red flag telling us that the waiter and/or the cook were not listening to her request. We asked to speak to the manager who told us that gluten is not a "real allergy." He actually used air quotes. At that point my daughter was in tears. Living with Celiac is hard on a good day. Being told that your autoimmune disease is fake by the man responsible for providing a safe meal while traveling in a foreign country is devastating. I explained that her sensitivity to gluten is in fact very serious, and she showed him an explanation written in German. He then offered to cook her a new steak in a separate pan. In the end, she was able to eat, but I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone with a food allergy. My other daughter and I did not like our meals, but my mother enjoyed her wiener schnitzel.

Hmmm.... when you don't have reservations at their other location and are recommended to this next best. What I came for the weiner shnitzel and also fries cause that's what I needed. The Fries were not as good as I expected. They cut them in a quite interesting way and it has some chew to it that I am not sure how to describe. The schnitzel was the first time having it the Austian style, and it was okay. The breading was a bit on the thicker side, the veal was thin and tender. The sauce that came with it was okay. The potato salad was really good. But the baby bokchoy was a bit sandy at the root..(normal I guess as it is hard to wash by the roots). Environment I went for a late lunch/early dinner so it was not busy at all. I was seated right away. I got a high top seat and the table was on the smaller side for 2 people. The bathrooms are upstairs and they had many other seating available. Niceness of the staff (not local to Austria) I didn't like that the waters expected a tip, which I guess is normal for Austria but I was a bit appalled.... The service by the waiter was okay, I had 2 waiters in total, one that took my order and served the food and then another to bill me.. not sure how to really gauge the style of service Dollar This is the strangest bill I've received. Everything costed, I am very surprised that they didn't tell me in advance. The shnitzel with the potato salad was 30 Euro, then the sauce costed near 3EU, with my fries - I was charged 1.50 for Ketchup and mayonnaise each. The tap water was also 1EU. Yes? I would not return here. I am not happy with the style of service and also the invoicing.

Very good food, but slightly more pricey than other surrounding restaurants. It does help to have a reservation. I was a bit hesitant to have the chicken, but oh my gosh it was so so good. You could taste a little bit of lemon in the batter coating it and it was light and crispy. Just excellent. Potato salad was good... I find it interesting that every restaurant serves potato salad and a slightly different manner, but I've enjoyed every single serving. Despite the fact I'm not a big potato salad person.

We made a reservation, based on the recommendation of our tour guide. Although there was a line outside, we went to the desk and were seated immediately. We were served some water and we ordered wine. My dining companion had the fried chicken and potato salad, I had the beef ribeye steak with roasted potato's and herbed butter. I ordered my steak med-rare and it was perfect. Rosemary roasted potatoes were soft but crispy. The fried chicken was moist. The potatoes salad was half potatoes and half cucumber sour cream salad. Very good but not quite as good as some we had elsewhere. It is a little more $ than other places. However it was a very good meal. Service was attentive.

Came here during a couples trip a while back and with the nearby "place to go" restaurant backed up for hours, we were told to give this place a try instead. We were quickly given an outside table and we settled in with a beer as we awaited our meals. My wife ordered the boiled beef which came with a small bowl of soup and a side of potatoes. She enjoyed the meal along with the accompanying horseradish. I settled on the veal wiener schnitzel that came with a side of potato-field salad. The lemon squeeze certainly helped cut the richness of the breaded veal, and the cranberry sauce helped add a bit of moisture to the dish. Was just iffy on the potato salad, not a taste I was very familiar with. All in all a satisfying meal in a lovely setting.

Service was absolutely outstanding! Nadal was his name I I believe and he was so kind, friendly, funny, and got everything perfect with our meal! The ambiance was very cozy and fun! It was so busy on a Friday so I recommend making reservations! Really can't thank Lugeck enough for the best meal in Vienna!
Fun, lively place.
Good place to people watch and be seen. Good food, good service. We enjoyed our dinner here.
We are out 2 weeks in Europe and this was not our favorite.
A bit of a hype around this place, long wait, have to have reservations. We thought it over priced and just went okay.

Everything about this dinner was fantastic! From the food, service, to the adorable decor. I would highly recommend! It was very family friendly too.
While visiting Vienna, my hubby and I stumbled upon Lugeck.
Our initial goal was to eat at a different restaurant that serves schnitzels; however, it was booked. Lugeck was packed and we assumed that since we didn't have reservations we would have to wait for a seat. To our delight, they had seating available, and we were seated quickly We red over the menu and decided to start with drinks. I opted for the Organic raspberry rhubarb soda and my hubby had a glass of riesling. My soda was not too sweet but it was refreshing and my hubby enjoyed his glass of riesling. Next, we ordered our entrees. I ordered the cauliflower curry. It came with rice and cashew nuts. I ended up ordering a side of rosemary potatoes as well. My hubby ordered the chicken schnitzel with rosemary potatoes as well. My food was decent. The curry needed more spices though. It was a little too bland for my liking. My hubby liked the schnitzel but he also said it could have used more seasoning. The potatoes were delicious though. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was informative and great suggestions. Our ratings are as follows: Organic raspberry rhubarb soda - 4/5 Cauliflower curry - 3/5 Rosemary Potatoes - 4/5 Riesling - 4/5 Schnitzel - 3/5 Rosemary potatoes - 3.5/5 Customer service was 5/5 for both of us. Overall we rate Lugeck a 3.7. If you are looking for average German cuisine in Vienna, this place could suffice.
Boiled beef in a pot with horseradish and brown potatoes!
Boiled beef in a pot with horseradish and brown potatoes! Super delicious! Live their house draft beer too! Wagyu hamburger delicious too! Nice interior and prompt service !
Food is good but seating is tight!
Good food, prompt service but uncomfortable seating. Ordered the schnitzel and vegetables, it was really good. We went without a reservation and still got seated promptly. The seating however was way too cramped, we were bumping into the next tables and the size of the table itself was really tiny. It took away from the ambiance of eating a higher end restaurant.
Too expensive
Very expensive for a rather basic setup with a not a big menu but ok. Nice outside terrace but was super hot so inside sounded better but was empty and very basic no table cloak but service was swift had the special beer was ok the starters are size ok but expensive burrata at 18 euro was ok and tartar at 20 euro as well. The main was the Wiener schnitzel for 30 euro not big comes with a rather small salad but first insult was the extra 3 euro was a dash of berry sauce and my 30 euro burger tasty yes but the extra 1,5 euro for a dash of ketchup is a second insult. Even the normal bread and butter to start is an extra here. I think the idea is to take as much as you can. For 3 with 2 beers each, 2 starters and 3 main came to 175 euro. Not worth by any sense even if food is not bad but not worth the price.
Disappointed
We were recommended Lugeck by our hotel reception. It had some good reviews. But to be honest, it was disappointing. ❌Our booking was 8:30 and we arrived shortly after this time. We were told our table was busy and we had to wait. Surely they manage the table turnaround when they arrange reservations. After 10 more minutes, they found us another table. ❌ Hard chairs. Uncomfortable really. Friendly greeting by our waiter. Good. He took our order promptly. He looked very busy and efficient but rushed. The wine and beer list is satisfactory but short in my view. Beer choices particularly limited. However the Drinks did come out quickly so that was an okay start. ❌ The food however was really disappointing. X cutlery - dropped at the end of the table. Hospitality at its worst. X rye bread. In a brown paper bag. Really!! X The schnitzel was not hot. Lukewarm. It was not as tender as other places we have had schnitzel at. At €31, it’s not a recommended choice. X Veal Goulash. It was poor indeed. Again lukewarm. No flavour. Dumplings were bland. So overall … all show and no substance…disappointing service and bland food. There are much better dinner options in Vienna at more reasonable prices.
nice food, wouldn’t rush back
We came to this restaurant as we had walked past a couple of times during our visit and it had always been busy! I very much enjoyed my veal however my friend chose the austrian pasta, she felt it to be more onion and cabbage than pasta which lacked sauce and did not enjoy it very much, however acknowledged that it was just not what she expected! The staff were friendly however seemed rushed off their feet despite the restaurant not being full, this did impact the atmosphere as it felt a bit stressful! I would eat here again but I am unsure if it would be my first choice.
Lovely buzzing atmosphere
We visited Lugeck in February half term 2023 after walking past it a few times on our family trip to Vienna. The restaurant has a lovely buzzing atmosphere and we were seated on the upper level at a window seat overlooking the small square below. Service was a little hit and miss, having to wait a while for drinks before and during the meal and also for the bill at the end. The food was good, for mains we had Wiener Schnitzel, a steak and the Viennese Boiled Beef, the latter being somewhat of a culinary experience - not necessarily the tastiest meal but very different: almost being three meals in one, but very warming and pretty tasty. Wine and beer selection was good. Overall though, we had a very nice evening, a little let down by the service but the food was fun and tasty and the atmosphere great. I'd go back.
Great food, upper mid price range, check the wine prices...:-)
A busy, vibrant mid range restaurant, with beautiful food. Check the price of the wine list before your waiter opens the bottle as £106.00 was a bit steep but a gorgeous red either way. The service was brilliant and the food even better. Truffle schnitzel was devine and the amount of black truffle was outstanding, making it even better than expected.
Avoid
Miserable. Me and a colleague from Switzerland went for a lunch. The drinks were amazing and the food mediocre. When asked for the bill, the waiter Amre/Emin( or something similar) asked for a tip, my colleague said no. He became so aggressive and started to shout why no tip and what was wrong. We politely said that there is no need someone to shout and if someone makes a decent salary why begging like this? I mean we are both nuclear engineers and we don’t get any Tipp for doing our job. He started to laugh and left. I still can’t believe, we made all the way from UNO to this place for such a nonsense drama. Never again
Great place to dine in Vienna
Great food, beautiful setting and good people watching This restaurant is in a beautiful building and sits on a lovely little plaza The outdoor area is very relaxing and charming + white asparagus and schnitzel - couldn’t ask for a better night in Vienna. Our waiter was charming, gracious and helpful so my adult son and I coukdn5 have felt more welcome
Cool popular spot for dinner
Popular spot for dinner. Make a reservation. We didn't have a reservation and waited for an hour for a table. While waiting for our table we looked at making a reservation at a different restaurant but nothing available. So lesson learned - good idea to make a reservation if you plan on dining out in Vienna. Was it worth the wait? Yes. Food and service was excellent. The place is upbeat and hip. Check it out.
We've been here a few times and enjoyed our experience.
Today, I walked up to the indoor hostess with a reservation. This guy in a suit tells me I need to check in with the outdoor hostess (they were busy 2 seconds ago). I walk out, and the indoor hostess walks out with me, to walk back inside with me to get me seated. What on earth. I've always gone straight inside without issues. Service from everyone else was top. Will think twice about coming back, even though our server was amazing.
Excellent food, Excellent service!
Excellent restaurant in the heart of Vienna. No reservations required, a bit of a wait on the weekend. Service was excellent. Food was truly amazing. Worth the price given the location and quality of food.
I had a surprisingly great experience at Lugeck.
There were both indoor and outdoor dining options. I was seated inside with little wait time. The restaurant was modern and classy. The waiter was helpful and staffs were friendly. I had grilled octopus and cinnamon bake with apple & vanilla ice cream. The grilled octopus was with grilled vegetables and was delicious. The portion was right on. The cinnamon bake, paired with apple sauce and vanilla ice-cream was great. I would recommend this place as an alternative to Figlmüller (they belong to the same group but seem to have different styles.
Our tour guide recommended Lugeck to us.
It is located in the city center within a beautiful building with outdoor seating. We did not have a reservation, and we were seated right away outside. They have menus in English. It's a bit pricy, as the schnitzel is 26 Euro. But it was worth it. Our waiter told us it was the best. We also had a steak sandwich, and it has the most amazing bread. It was a cranberry rye, which was super crispy with superfoods. It was served with a small salad and cost around 17 Euros. Our waiter Alessandro was so nice and informative. He had great recommendations, and he even told us that their house made beer is the healthiest we would ever have. It was really good too. I would highly recommend Lugeck if you are in Vienna. Enjoy.
Gorgeous restaurant! If you are traveling and need to try
Gorgeous restaurant! If you are traveling and need to try the schnitzel this is the place for you. The restaurant sits in this beautiful part of the city, partly secluded street. We had the schnitzel 8/10 which was perfectly cooked but honestly the potato salad 10/10 was the star of the show. I would eat that every day! Get a reservation, this place is incredibly popular
Was okay but we really wanted to try weinershnitzel !
Was okay but we really wanted to try weinershnitzel ! Waiters speak English well but it took a very long time to get seated even though there were so many open tables and waiters passing by us. Waited in the doorway for around 10 minutes before anyone greeted us. Drinks were really good!
Food is delicious.
Service almost fast. Ambience is good but crowded with too many tables close each other.
So happy we made it here.
Made a reservation weeks before and we were instantly seated on the patio. Ordered the Steak Tartare with Avocado, the Signature Breads, the Lugeck Bowl, the Baked Goat Cheese Salad, and Weiner Schnitzel. Steak Tartare was served with avocado making the dish creamier than the classics preparation. Pairs well their bread. Lugeck Bowl and Goat Cheese Salad were hearty and fresh. Nice quality ingredients. The star of the show however was the schnitzel. Perfectly breaded veal and served with a slightly sweet, warm potato salad. I grew up eating German potato salad as a kid, so loved the throwback. Overall, a wonderful evening dining al fresco with a very attentive wait staff. In a city that some say is food challenged, I would definitely consider a table here.
Honestly I expected something more given the hyped.
The potato soup was good but I think the truffle wasn't as after I felt sick. The roasted vegetables were too oil. The salad was good. The ambience is nice though very big and can get pretty loud. The service is fast, could be more welcoming.
Good place, but the waiters are not professional enough.
They try to imitate professional but they are very far from it. The ribeye would be not more then 4 mark. The wine list is very weak. One plus - many seats.
I hate to give a place with such great food 3 stars, and I
I hate to give a place with such great food 3 stars, and I wish I could give 3.5 just for the food but unfortunately the service was pretty terrible and there are many other good Austrian restaurants around this area I would rather go to in order to have better service. We ordered the schnitzel and it was the best one I had during my time in Vienna. The potato salad was ok, it was a little sweet which isn't my type but I know many people like that. The bread was worth ordering simply for the house made butter. The green beans were AMAZING highly recommend ordering those, and the dumplings were just fine but a little oily. I wouldn't order those again. The waiter did not approach our table for 30 minutes before taking our order. We actually had to flag down a different waiter just to get water. He spent a lot of time chatting with tables (which I'm sure they appreciated and would rate well) but unfortunately that left his other tables (not just ours) extremely neglected (no wine refill, delayed food order, no water refill, long time to get check etc.). At first I thought they might be understaffed but throughout the night we saw many waiters and a variety of tables being full and tables being empty and our service did not change (maybe just our section and our waiter). The front desk was disorganized, an entire line of people with reservations waiting outside amongst people without reservations, one woman even cutting the line to say she had a reservation when others in line were waiting to speak to the host for the same reason. Bringing us to our table was extremely confusing as they grouped us with another group but didn't tell us to follow or where to sit. All in all, really great food clouded with poor service and disorganization.
