Lucali Brooklyn Reviews from The Last Year
Pizza is okay.
. but is it worth standing in the queue for around 4 and a half hours.. definitely not !! There are so many other places in NYC that offers so much better pizza without letting you to wait for around 4 hours and skipping that long queue and at lucali they are very much understaffed when it comes to servers..only 3 servers for a bigg crowd.. Lady who takes the reservations is very rude and the restaurant doesn't even have proper A.Cs I think they are way highly over rated
Best pizza and experience hands down.
Sure the wait in the line earlier in the day is a pain but it pays off in friendly wait staff and awesome food.
the pizza was very simple but delicious.
we had a party of 6 and was recommended to get 3 pizzas and a calzone. we ended up with just 3 slices of leftovers! the quality of the ingredients really stood out
My wife and I visited the restaurant last summer.
We love this place as it was more of an experience than just a place to get pizza. We both waited in line awhile before it opened. About a half hour before opening, the host took our name and gave us a time to come back for dinner. It was just two of us so we got a spot pretty easily. We returned at our time and we were able to bring a bottle of wine - I saw others with tall cans of beer so I'm pretty sure it is byob which is cool. The food and service is excellent. There was a small fire on the table from a candle and they caught it and put it out immediately. The owner chatted with some of us while we were in line. Everyone who was working seemed to be in great spirits. There's not tvs but the kitchen is open so you can watch them make your pizza or talk to your guest. My wife and I loved it and we wouldn't mind waiting in line to go again.
Was it great pizza? Absolutely.
Was it worth the wait? I am not sure. We arrived at Lucali on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 pm. We had about ten people in front of us. They started taking down names at 4 pm, and we were able to get our desired slot for 6pm. Probably could start lining up a little later around 3:15-3:30 pm, if you don't care about when you eat, and have a small party. When we entered, we sat there for about 10-15 minutes before being acknowledged by our server. The place is busy -- besides placing our orders, we found it very hard to catch our server's attention. We got our pizza in just about 15 minutes. We also got the sauce on the side: highly recommend doing this as it really intensified the flavor of the pizza. The pizza itself was great; the sauce was perfectly tangy, and the ingredients were very fresh. But can it justify the 1.5+ hour wait we went through to get a seat? I think not. It was great pizza, but we are in New York; we can definitely find pizza of a similar caliber at a much reduced wait time. My partner who I dined here with said they preferred L'Industrie, so would try that next.
The best thing about Lucali is the service.
The nicest people. The worst part is the wait. You really have to plan it out & waste a lot of time especially when ur not in the Carroll Heights area & what's more .. it an ok Pizza .. we've spent hours planning out a visit to DeFaro when the DOM was still making the Pizza .. he'll show up when he shows up .. so a trip there would be up to 3 hours sometimes but it would make me drool for more & I'Il do it again & again ... but lucali leaves me disappointed & wanting L'industries, Scarrs, Roberta's , Rubirosa, Joes, John ... the crust is too soft & too much on the edge .. the sauce was not very tasty ... so many great pizza options in NYC ... no need for this one .. sry Lucali .. but time was wasted .. left Greenwich village at 3:30 & didn't eat til 8:30pm
Did not live up to The hype mid asf .
No worth the hassle or the price . Service was good and staff was nice . Pizza bla
Meh. It was simple fast and just good enough. All in all if
Meh. It was simple fast and just good enough. All in all if you're hungry and your staying by the Hyatt it's fine I guess
I really didn't know if there was a way for Lucali to live
I really didn't know if there was a way for Lucali to live up to the hype. And then it exceeded it. First off - the wait: got here at around 2:15pm on a Monday afternoon and was the seventh person in line. When they started taking names at 4:15, there was a pretty serious line that ate up the vast majority of reservations (I think one seating at the last time available remained). Coming back was flawless, and we were seated about ten minutes before our time. We kept it classic with the large regular pie - no toppings. One bite made it clear that this was some superior pizza. The tang of the sauce. The mozzarella Parmesan blend with that salty goodness. A crisp, no flop, crunchy undercarriage to die for. And don't get me started on the char on the crust that was one of the best bites of the pizza. The decor is also so unique - from the old school bathroom to the ceiling tiles to the open kitchen. An absolutely gem, well worth the hype, and somewhere I wouldn't even think twice about before standing in line for two hours again. One of the best pizza experiences I've had - and based on the fact that a major network TV personality was seated right next to us, you know it's a quintessential NYC experience that is something everyone must try!
My 2nd time enjoying this wonderful "slice" of heaven.
. the ambience is intimate with dim lighting and a beautiful oven that makes it feel very inviting. The service from the staff and the owner Mark is what's having me and my family be loyal customers for life (even though we live in LA). Last but not least is the menu, be it simple with few options they make it a simply exquisite meal. This is a must try if you're ever within 100 miles!
Back to Back banger
I was dwelling in Brooklyn and needed some pizza at 6:16 Shoutout Lucali's Only other place with good food is Toronto's New Ho King, fried rice and blammy Euphoric meal
Delicious pizza.
Perfect crust, a ton of basil and the right amount of flavor in the sauce and cheese, one of the best margarita slices in NYC.
The pizza pies are super amazing, no doubt the hype, but I
The pizza pies are super amazing, no doubt the hype, but I had to wait almost 3 hours in a queue, that was a bit too much to wait for a pie is what I personally
Don't love the wait and miss when the neighborhood could
Don't love the wait and miss when the neighborhood could order take out, but it really is that good.
Guy brought me here on a date and I'm now legally obligated
Guy brought me here on a date and I'm now legally obligated to marry him because it was that good. It just the perfect pizza and calzone, I really couldn't fault anything they had. We got way too much and it was still delicious reheated. Half reg za and half pepperoni and hot peppers. Get the calzone with garlic. If they have a pasta special get it.
I got takeout and this is some of the best pizza I've ever
I got takeout and this is some of the best pizza I've ever had. I had the pepperoni and basil. Worth every penny.
Is Lucali good pizza? Absolutely.
Is it worth the hours you'll have to wait in order to secure a table? Debatable. Maybe I'd feel different if I weren't the one who had to wait to score a table, but the job fell to me. I arrived at around 3:30 pm on a weekday and was delighted to be the first person in line. At first I thought I was aggressively early for this, but within around 10 minutes there were a total of eight people who had lined up behind me - one of which was a TaskRabbit being paid to stand on this line which, honestly I might consider doing if I were ever to come back to Lucali. By 4:15 the line was wrapped around the block. A little after 5 pm, the hostess came out and asked what time I'd like to be seated. I asked for 7, which again, if I were to redo this day all over, I would've been ready to eat at 5 to cut down on how many hours of my day were spent waiting to eat pizza. I went to a nearby bar to grab a drink and wait for my partner to arrive. I picked up a few bottles of wine to have with the pizza (It's BYOB), but we only got through one of them due to how fast this place turns over tables. There's only two options on this menu - a calzone and a pizza. We got one of each without toppings. Again, the food is good, don't get me wrong. It's just not mind blowing enough for me to spend four hours waiting to eat it. The interior is cozy and it's pretty cool to see the pizza being made a few feet from your table. But I don't know, I think it's kind of over hyped.
Lucali is a old school traditional casual style restaurant.
Perfect to go with family and friends. Although it is very hard to make a reservation it is totally worth the wait. If you are a smaller party you are more likely to get in. There is no menu everything is pizza and calzone. You can choose multiple toppings for your pizza/calzone. the service is very very fast and friendly. would 100% recommend coming here.
Finally able to eat at this renowned pizzeria.
Arrived at 3:45 pm and was about 10th in line. They started taking names for reservations at 4:15 pm. Able to get a table for 2 right at 5 pm. Had a nice table for 2 along the wall. It's a very small restaurant with an impressive pizza oven in the back. You get 1 hour at the table. They have a limited menu so it pays to order immediately upon arrival. We split a large pizza which was absolutely delicious. The basil was so tasty. The pizza was nice and crispy. Definitely among my top pizzas. Since we've waited so long for the reservation we also ordered the calzone. In hindsight the small would have been sufficient. The base calzone has cheese, we added pepper. It was very tasty and the sauce provided was more than enough, you do not need extra sauce. Also note it was byob so bring something fun to have with dinner. Lastly, service is fine, nothing spectacular. The food makes up for it.
Nothing more I can say #1 spot in NYC nuff said , wait time
Nothing more I can say #1 spot in NYC nuff said , wait time is gonna be forever but let's be honest people wait forever for crappy food so just wait and get the best .
With a family of three, we made our first visit to this
With a family of three, we made our first visit to this pizzeria. The excitement of the crowd that gathered around the restaurant prior to opening was infectious. It was an incredible experience to try the entire menu that consisted of a pasta dish, pizza with various toppings and a large cheese calzone. My mantra is that freshly baked pasta, especially pizzas and calzones must be eaten immediately. The service was very simple, easy and fast. You should know what you want before you are seated. Bringing your favorite vino adds to your experience. An hour is not enough for me to eat and enjoy the atmosphere and evening with family! Can't wait till the next time!
Father’s day dins
First time here and finally got a table! Our family of 9 had an early dinner here and ordered a few pies. All brought in timely manner, tasted great and the service was good too! We ate outdoors because it was nice weather.
Incredible
I didn't know if I should've believed the hype, but now I do. It's simply incredible!

Hi, best of luck with selling.
Have you sold cote reservations before, and if so were there ever any issues with their hosts denying the reservation to the buyer?
