Good food/ good service but…
Greeting: excellent Drink Service: excellent Staff: excellent Food: very good, especially the main, fillet steak was exceptional Why three stars? Waiting time between starter and main was 45 min…. When it is a business lunch time unfortunately is of essence.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the money.
I booked Luca for my husbands birthday. I had seen it on instagram quite a few times and heard a few recommendations. The restaurant itself is beautiful, however, the food was distinctly average, which at circa £200 a head with drinks, is really disappointing. We did the chefs menu and my husband did the wine pairing. The sommelier was totally disinterested and often didn't serve the wine before the food came out, dessert was long gone by the time the final wine was served. The food started well with burata and monk fish, however, it went downhill at each course, with over salted pasta, over cooked & chewy pork and a totally underwhelming dessert. There is so much choice in the area for great Italian food at a much more affordable price.
Be the first to ReplyAn extremely mediocre dining experience
We were looking forward to a meal at Luca but came away feeling really rather disappointed. Firstly, the service. This is probably the overriding factor for our poor experience. We had booked the chef’s menu. Within a few minutes of arriving at our table, a waitress arrived who slapped down two dishes along with something inaudible but along the lines of ‘here’s your burrata and your monkfish’. OK… so, how about an aperitif? Or the wine list perhaps? Eventually we got the attention of somebody else who asked the sommelier to assist us. We enquired what we would be eating (no menu, which is fine, provided there is an explanation as to what’s being served (there wasn’t)). We were told that we would have what’s in front of us, then some pasta, then some meat, then something sweet. Helpful. Asking for a recommendation for something to complement the meal, the advice was to ‘look at the wine list’. Brilliant. The service during the rest of our time at Luca didn’t get much better…. We asked about a couple of the dishes as to provenance or ingredients. In both occasions we were met with a blank look.. an offer to ask the chef didn’t come to anything. The food: All I would say is that we both found the dishes to be pleasant, but far from anything out of the ordinary both in terms of taste and creativity. A ball of burrta in a bowl with some dill oil… nice… but hardly inspiring. The ravioli… pleasant, as was the pork served as secondi… but again, nothing to rave about. One thing that we found very peculiar was that the antipasti and the primi were served with finely sliced chilli. No issue in particular with that, I love chilli, but on every dish? Perhaps there was just a lot that day that needed using up? The space: is lovely and was a lovely place to dine… shame the experience was let down elsewhere!
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful place, disappointing food
Just not up to the Michelin standard I don’t think! Over seasoned food it was soooo salty, the starters had been sat out, as had our primi course. We must have had four courses within one hour. Attention to detail just wasn’t there, no coaster for our drinks. Asked the som to describe some of the wines and he couldn’t really be bothered. All round not impressed would not recommend if you want a premium dining experience. Beautiful place and the staff were for the most part nice, but it is just simply not worth the money when there are so many other premium experiences in London that tick all the boxes.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food. Shame about the service.
Great food. Service underwhelming. Tepid, disinterested and sloppy. Ultimately disappointing. With no senior staff oversight.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect birthday lunch
My friend treated me to lunch here. The set meal is £26 for 2 courses, £30 for 3. The team had a birthday card ready on the table for me, which was a lovely touch. The food was very good and service was great. We were also both given a pudding on the house. Great atmosphere and a lovely experience.

Luca was great , nice food and nice feeling about it very friendly staff , worth a visit if you are around Farringdon , 10/10
Be the first to ReplyFrenetic, confused and sloppy, although well meaning.
Atmosphere: Not really a restaurant for grown-ups unless you like the bass beat competing with the noisy dining room. Food: Reasonably good, although the artichoke on the vitello tonnato was more like cucumber. In fact, it really didn't seem to be artichoke (just my view - I did eat artichokes pretty steadily for the five years I lived in Italy). Service: Frenetic, confused and sloppy, although well meaning. Overall: Amazed that this restaurant holds the reputation it does. But, again, I think if you've never lived in Italy, don't really know what fine dining is, and don't mind a lot of noise, it's probably pretty satisfying. Prices: Significant.
Be the first to ReplyService by Stefano!
The best restaurant in London could ever have. But most importantly it's the Manager Stefano who is probably the best at his job, as he just masters the feel of welcoming and the level of professional care you want to see at the restaurant. Grazie, Stefano!

You know when you spend £400 for two people in a restaurant and you end up being like « I’d rather have bought myself something else? » Arrived just on time, no one to greet us at the door apart from an IPad - nice start after a bad Friday at work. Went in to look for a staff member and finally find one who tells us that he will… speak to his colleague. Now waiting in the middle of the bar and standing up until the « colleague » finally arrives to tell us that our table is not ready. « Please sit at the bar » nice, why not getting a drink before dinner, unless no one actually comes to give you a drink. Ok the menu arrives, £16 for a negroni, « Sorry I think we’ll wait and order a bottle of wine at our table ». Someone comes to bring us to our table. Loud, show off, instaspot, far from the nice Italian place we had imagined from the outside. Food comes, the waitress asks if everything is alright straight after putting the plates on the table. My girlfriend cracks a joke « hard to say before tasting the food! » - no reaction aside of a weird look. The food is okay, but not worth the price. I thought the service could turn casual instead of weird when the waitress cracked a joke to me when my girlfriend went to the toilets saying that she left me before paying for the bill, that until she cracked the exact same joke to the guys next to us. Ah yeah final one, I ticked « birthday » as special event when booking a couple of months and despite the 300 waiters no one reacted nor brought anything, which after all my girlfriend was really grateful for (I guess that should count as a positive then?) Would I go back? No.
Be the first to ReplyQuite an experience
This is an unusual London restaurant with a Piedmont inspired menu. The place has a classy feel with a smart bar where even the ice cubes are stamped with the restaurant logo. The cocktails themselves, especially the Negroni, are 1st class. You can have small meals at the bar but the restaurant itself is spacious and sympathetically lit with a separate private dining area. As expected the wine list is extensive and not overpriced. Orkney Scallops starter were perfectly cooked although the seasoning and sauce at the upper limits of what could be added without obscuring the scallop taste completely. You will be disappointed that only 2 scallops were on each plate at £27. Similarly the Parmesan Fries were succulent but were in short supply with only 6 chips in the serving. Vitello Tonnato is unusual and should be tried whilst the Beef Fillet was perfectly cooked and tender although at £48 this is to be expected. Service was a little slow and not in keeping with the prices paid. Overall a great meal at £429 for 4 - so an expensive night out. At this price everything should be absolutely perfect.

Visited for my partner's birthday. Chose the chef's menu The wine list is very big and after a quick discussion with the sommelier we settled on a £50 bottle of red. Was as he described. Two courses served after bread. Burrata, pear and hazelnut was lovely but I think the star was the sea bream ceviche with a tart dressing and chii. Sheep's ricotta cheese tortelli this was lovely too, the pasta had a good bite. Pork for main course was also good, with 2 or 3 different cuts from a filet type to a slightly fatty (in a good way) type. Dessert was a fairly creamy tiramisu which was OK but nothing too special. The ambiance is quite busy and little noisy, it's quite a large restaurant. The food did not come out too quickly though (a bug bear of ours) but did find the waiters were a little to keen to clear the plates away with a little left to eat, waiting to finish, we had to grab hold of our plates a couple of times Overall fitted the purpose, good food, something different and reasonable prices. Some of the (probably more expensive) a la carte items looked interesting but doubt you might get offered them on the chef's menu so worked out good value. Had an espresso and whilst I am not looking for a mug full it was the smallest I'd ever had!

I was very excited to visit this restaurant. The prices are not outrageous but enough to make you expect something a bit out of the ordinary. Our coats were not taken to be hung up, we ended up with them clumped in a pile next to us the whole meal. We were not offered a single alcoholic drink the entire time we were there apart from the drink we had at the bar. I found that really strange and the first time I’ve ever experienced that. We had the chefs choice, after looking today at trip advisor I can see this doesn’t change much. The first courses were nice, I couldn’t hear the young man explain the dishes so I asked our waitress what we’d eaten and she had no idea, surely you brief the staff before on the chefs choice. The pasta course was tasty, cooked just right. Then we had pork, the pork was dry, the accompaniments were so salty I ended up leaving half, it was such a beige looking meal and so disappointing. The dessert was a slab of tiramisu, which was delicious but no presentation. The waiting between courses was too long, particularly without an alcoholic drink, meals were warmish. I was very disappointed to see an optional £29 service charge added to the bill, which we only noticed on leaving. Tipping should be done by choice. I wouldn’t return and I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s so close to being right but needs to up the service and food a little.
Be the first to ReplyItalian and British cuisines: a made-in-heaven match that can be done!
I have been a few times now at Luca and it’s just the perfect place for every occasion: dates, friends get-together and colleagues post-work dinner. It’s probably best suited for dates, given the romantic vibes, dimmed light and cosy atmosphere. That’s why I picked it for St Valentine’s night 😁 Luca is the perfect made-in-heaven match of Italian and British cuisine. It’s incredible how two cuisines so different, almost antitethical, perfectly blend here to produce dishes like: the Burrata with poached pear, beetroot, radicchio tardivo and piedmont hazelnuts or the Seabream crudo with scots pine, smoked cod’s roe, miyagawa and pickled fennel. Incredible the pork served with asparagus, potatoes purees, olive and artichokes paté. The service was caring and friendly. They came over to double check our allergies, which we had previously communicated, but still it is not usual that you are approached again at the premise to double check this. Classy and crafty. Highly recommend and surely I will go back.

The good points first. Beautiful interior, really lovely environment. Amazing cocktails. Especially the Angelico Sour.. just perfect. The Parmesan fries were delicious. Not so good… The lighting was atrocious. There was a downlight right behind my head so bright and so badly positioned that I couldn’t see my food unless I moved my head to one side or sat at an angle. My partner said my head was in silhouette the whole time. The music was just slightly too loud and trying too hard to be a little alternative. I have most of the records, they were good, but I wouldn’t put them on over dinner. As the experience went downhill it didn’t help that the music was loud and annoying. In our opinion the food wasn’t worth the price. Absolutely no way. The burrata with pear and hazelnuts was nice but not the best burrata I’ve had. The scallops, two of them for £27, were overpowered by the n’duja and the Jerusalem artichoke (presuming that was the purée underneath) didn’t taste of much. Regarding the Anglolotti cacio E Pepe (£38!) No amount of truffle shavings crudely thrown over this small dish could save its blandness. It’s cheese and pepper… how difficult could it be? I couldn’t find much flavour at all. Finally the Scottish Halibut… (£39). Again lacking in flavour, on a plate with pickled romaneso and smoked muscles and a sauce which didn’t work at all in my opinion. Too many jarring flavours around a (too) subtle piece of fish. In short.. we didn’t enjoy the food at all and the overall experience felt like a very expensive waste of time. We won’t go back to the restaurant, but might return for an Angelico Sour.

The Guys behind the service team here are real magicians. Stefano makes us feel so welcome every single time, and we keep going back, maybe even too often... The pasta is delicious, and all dishes are equally good, but honestly, the particular part is the ambience and the feeling of being welcomed, like at a best friend's house. Thank you, Stefano and the team.

We were one vegetarian , and all our courses including vegetarian were absolutely delicious. The service was excellent, discrete but attentive, exactly what we expected and was very much appreciated. The buzzy atmosphere was great, we will definitely return.

Having booked to eat at this place having had to give my CC details at the time of booking I called the afternoon of the reservation to cancel due to illness , they told me that this would cost me 30 pounds per person to cancel and that they had already deducted payment in advance of my reservation ! DONT eat with these thieves !
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food but rip off wine
The food is something else no doubt about it , every course was just immaculate and nice to see Vitello Tonnato on a U.K. menu but the wine experience was poor. We are not big wine buffs but can describe what we like , we told the sommelier that we wouldn't want to spend more than £150 , and guess what the bill came the wine was exactly £150 !!! Bit sad when you're already spending £300 for two , kind of soured the evening which was my wife's birthday

We had an incredible evening at Luca. Staff was warm and very friendly. Food was absolutely amazing, every single dish was outstanding. Luca is that sort of place where attention to detail is king. Big up Rob, Johnny and Daniel for this incredible spot. Highly recommended for special occasions, Luca is a hidden gem.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a Night !!😀
What a fantastic night! We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we chose Luca as the menu looked ‘right up our street’ When we arrived we were greeted by the front of house team who immediately made us welcome and guided us to our table. We decided to go for the Prix Fix menu as it was our special occasion. The food that followed was nothing short of Incredible! 5 courses of utter bliss. Throughout the night the kitchen team kept on popping out to make sure all was ok and it was lovely to meet them and talk to them and understand their inspirations. The service was 1st class, and to top it off we were sitting next to Sammy the head pastry chef who was enjoying a night off with a freind. That says it all, team members enjoying a night off and coming back to work to enjoy the Gastronomic pleasures! Sammy kindly arranged for the team to bring us out a 6th course! All in all if this was a special night and the teams at Luca made it world class, thank you.
Be the first to ReplyA good meal and a lovely evening
From the street the restaurant appears quite small, but once you get inside you find it goes a long way back and has a glass extension. The decor is very tasteful, Art Deco with lots of natural wood and glass. The meal was excellent. We chose the Prix Fixe option, where the chef sends out a selection of dishes, mostly from the menu, but you don’t know what is coming until it arrives. We had ANTI PASTI Burrata with broad bean pesto, basil, preserved lemon and confit almond, and A salt cod dish PRIMI Agnolotti carbonara with speck and puffed quinoa SECONDI Scottish halibut with spring minestrone, smoked eel and italian courgettes DOLCI Tiramisù With each course we had a different glass of wine, suggested by the sommelier. The first wine, to accompany the Antipasti arrived quite late but apart from this one glitch the service was very, very good and the staff were very welcoming to their guests. It is quite an expensive restaurant, but well worth it.

Four of us went here for my birthday. The bill was £460.00. Positives: my sea bream crudo starter was outstanding; wife's beef tartare was very good. The Conchiglie pasta: goodish. Two wines at around £60.00 each were excellent and were served well. Negatives: I ordered the Hereford beef fillet and asked for it medium rare but it came over-cooked and honestly tasted poor. I asked the manager to take a look and his response was : "Well don't worry it'll start to be rarer once you get to the middle." So I hacked my way through it but at these prices (49.00 for a fillet) that's just not good enough. All in all : the place feels a tad smug. Maybe you'll like the loud rock music in the background but I found it hard to hear. We had a 6.45 booking and had to be out by around 9. We were a cheerful group and were bound to have a nice evening but we won't go back. At these prices it's got to be better than this.

We went with a group of friends for lunch and had an outstanding experience. Everything was faultless and I can’t wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch experience at Luca
We had a great first time lunch experience at Luca. We were celebrating two birthdays (total group of 4) and dined in the main dining room on a Saturday. Although the restaurant was busy, with two private functions going on, the service was still very good. Staff were attentive and helpful. We all had the tasting menu for lunch and enjoyed all the courses (everyone should try the Parmesan fries, which are melt in your mouth. Also particularly liked the pasta we had). Ambience was excellent and our table was particularly well located. (Also a bit socially distanced from other tables, which was great for me given these covid times). All in all, I would definitely return.
