ok i guess if you're going to a show
we weren't going to a show so i should have known better on this one - thinking from reviews etc it was a nice classic french restaurant - which it really wasnt. my steak was nothing special - service by the non french personel was OK. but all in all over $200 for a party of two definetly not worth it. if you're going to a show i guess you might like this place. but really nothing special at all.

Service: Good Value: Fine Food: Fine Atmosphere/Decor: Needs a major update. Outdated decor. Just okay. We wouldn't return.
Be the first to ReplyGood value!
1 1/2 blocks from Times Square. Decent service and good (not blow yours socks off) french food. Small but passable wine list.
Be the first to ReplyNot as good as previously
Le Rivage has a nice atmosphere and is relatively quiet. They offer a pre-show prix fixe menu with many choices. We didn't find the food to be as totally delicious as previously. Still a good place to eat before a show.

I agree with many of the previous reviews. The staff are terrific. The food not so much. As many have said the French onion soup is thin, bland and has very little cheese. I had the muscles. The broth had no flavor. Wanted to love this place but sad to say I won't return.

A wonderful meal. We ordered from the restaurant week menu, and were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions compared to some other restaurant week offerings. Just the right size. Everything was good, and wait staff excellent. We will definitely recommend this to our friends.

I was so disappointed with this restaurant. The pre fixe menu was so pricey considering the offerings. I spent $250. for 2 French onion soups that tasted like they were out of a can with a grocery store slice of swiss cheese somewhat melted on top. I ordered the burger because they say it's award winning and nothing else appealed to me. It's a simple burger on an English muffin. No big deal! The fries were cold, soggy and looked to have been the sorry leftovers of a previous batch. My son ordered the mussels and he enjoyed them but his fries were also not good. The desserts were ok, but I'm not much of a dessert person. The vibe of the restaurant was that they are past their prime and going through the motions. Overall, the cost to value was way out of proportion.

During our stay in nyc my partner and I walked by Le revage numerous times and didn’t think of going in, on our last night we decided to go in and we are so thankful we did! It was exactly what we both wanted and so beautiful and picturesque. The staff was very helpful and welcoming, the ambiance was great. It was such an intimate romantic evening with the dim lights and the gentleman singing Christmas songs on the piano. The food was amazing, very tasty. Quite expensive in all fairness but the quality was amazing so you definitely get what you pay for. This has been one of our favourite restaurants we have both visited and we would definitely recommend.

We sat outside for the lunch pre-fixe. The service was outstanding. Very attentive, constantly filling water glasses, food brought out at reasonable intervals between courses. I went with my 9 y/o daughter to celebrate her birthday. We split our meals so we got to taste six dishes between the two of us.
The escargot were AMAZING, as was the Boeuf Bourginon (sp?). The pate was just okay; I wouldn't order it again. The salmon was excellent as well, though the potato it was served with was undercooked. We would return just for that beef again and again.
The presentation of the desserts was very nice, and they even put a candle in my daughter's and sang Happy Birthday. The issue was that the desserts were just no good. She had the creme brûlée. The top was sort of soggy instead of making an amazing crack, and the pudding itself was very, very eggy; no vanilla flavor at all. I had the chocolate mouse. Instead of being light and fluffy, it was dense, tasted as if it had been frozen and defrosted, and was grainy. We both love dessert, and didn't even end up eating much of either one. It was super disappointing.
That being said, the regular food was so good, we will definitely return, but probably not for the prix-fixe!
my favourite of our trip
Went here pre-theatre and it was a set menu but reasonably priced. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything was decent portion sizes and reasonably priced.
Highly recommend.
Perfect for after theater dinner
Group of six looking for a place near our hotel after seeing Six and this was just down our street. Cozy, french cuisine with live music (singer with accompaniment). Subdued atmosphere perfect for later dining.
Our menu choices included bisque, gratinee soup, moules mainieres, risotto, trout, and veggie couscous. Drinks included pinot noir, sauvignon blanc (we are not sophisticated wine drinkers) and a variety of beers, including a non-alcoholic option. Chocolate mousse and creme brulee with coffee and expresso rounded out the experience.
Everyone sang praises of their respective choices. My wife and I each opted for the mussels and were not disappointed in both size and taste.
Staff were friendly and attentive. All in all a wonderful find to end a very pleasant evening.
Just okay
Very average. Service was good but food was mediocre. There was a strange loud sound (plumbing?) that came from the wall we sat next to.

We had dinner here prior to a Tuesday evening Broadway play. Le Rivage is well organized to handle the time constraint involved and seated us promptly. The interior is romantically dark with fun paintings on the walls and tables an adequate distance apart. The staff was good about wearing masks, although that made it a little difficult to understand our waiter. For dinner we had the seafood crepe and Coq au Vin both of which were good. The prix -fixe menu makes sense for a theater night however the advertised meal for the day of the week wasn't available. For that reason and the server not knowing which of us got which meal is why I've rated the restaurant four stars rather than five. We will come back.
Be the first to ReplyVery good onion soup
I went there before a play. They have a fixed menu so I was unable to do what I usually do, which is to order 2 appetizers as I don't like to have a heavy meal before a play.
I had the onion soup, followed by moules marinières and then a chocolate mousse.
The soup was the real deal and delicious. The moules were lacking flavors and they were unable to provide me with mayo for the fries. The mousse was very good.
The atmosphere was really good.
The End of a good thing!
I have been a patron of Le Rivage for decades. This is my
first visit since the pandemic. The food is not as good,
and the prices are higher. For example, the onion soup
was less favorable; the duck was not crisp; the paté with
toast points and gherkins, is no longer offered as an
appetizer.
I always recommended this restaurant for those who
were planning an evening of theatre. I would be less
likely to recommend them now.
Rather disappointed.
This was the response from the restaurant:
So just one meal is all it takes for you to “poopoo” on a restaurant that you yourself state made you happy for DECADES!!!! So, Monsieur Scott Martin, let’s hope you never have ONE bad day at work where someone feels the need to sabotage your potential to earn. Aurevoir and merci for the decades of money you already did spend in our establishment. As we say in French: oooooooo La La
Just Like it should be!
Wonderful French food with old world flare. The food was delicious. My wife had the calves liver and pronounced it some of the best she had ever had. I had the leek soup and Boeuf Bourganion. Both were excellent. Cheese cake was great as well. My wife experienced a coughing attack and one of the wait staff brought her hot water and lemon totally unsolicited. Hard to beat. Very convenient to most all theaters!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful French food with fantastic service
My wife and I were fortunate to eat at this Hell's Kitchen eatery recently. My wife had the skirt stake and I had the duck a l'orange. Both dishes were exceptional. Each course was delicious and the service was friendly, prompt and attentive. If you are looking for fine French food in an unpretentious environment. This is worth a stop. Don't miss a chance to eat here.
