Having been to the same restaurant many times, we expected a very pleasant meal with lovely surroundings; his time, we were very disappointed. Even though it was a pleasant afternoon, dining was relocated from the terrace to inside, due to expected rain (which did not come) however, we were allowed outside for the coffee, which caused more problems with the service! The initial problem was that the restaurant had incorrectly allocated us a table for two people, even though we had made the booking for four and had phoned up, mid-week to confirm this fact. The manager muttered, as if we were a problem and proceeded to reallocate our table and give us another. I have no problem with that but we were reallocated into the back room, which is basically through the kitchen. This room as very little atmosphere and the tables are little more than you would get in a café - no tablecloths, unlike the front room and the terrace. We asked to move as the booking had been made well in advance, but the dismissive attitude of the manager left us disappointed. The service was poor, with forgotten items, and the atmosphere very basic. However, the attitude of the manager was the real issue. He did not care that we were basically dining in a cafe with the same menu and prices of a, normally, very good restaurant that has atmosphere and wonderful views. The food was adequate, if limited, but too pretentious and not so enjoyable in the cafe setting. I accept that part of the cost of the meal is for the setting but without the setting, it was not worth the visit. When paying the ‘not inconsiderable’ bill, we tried to explain why we were dissatisfied but, again, total disinterest from the manager. After many happy visits to this restaurant, it will be a while before we will chance it again.
