Outstanding! You must eat here! Like sitting in a Suomi palace with furs and wooden tables. Everyone was friendly and helpful - great food suggestions. The meal was incredible and well worth the price. I will definitely be coming back.

If you're looking for a great spot to explore the cuisine of Lapland while you find yourself in Helsinki, this is a great spot to do so. Lapp is located only a block or two from the main esplanade and action of downtown Helsinki. I strongly suggest snagging reservations in advance as they fill up quite quickly. We ended up eating here at 4:30 pm because that was the only spot available during our day-of reservations. The interior is wooden and filled with antlers and kitschy decor to set the vibe. Yes, a lot of tourists go here and yes, I was on a mission to have some sautéed reindeer. Note that in true Helsinki fashion, prices can be quite high at this restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our sautéed reindeer, lingonberry sauce and mashed potatoes alongside our barley risotto topped with Lapland cheese and seasonal root vegetables (so flavorful!). If you're vegetarian, note that the menu can be quite meat heavy. They also offer a menu of Finnish beers, cocktails with Finnish vodka, etc. Overall, a tasty and positive experience.

We came to Lappi for a traditional Finnish meal (aka we wanted reindeer). The ambience was cozy and cute as it feels like a wood cabin you'd see in a movie. In like with the wood cabin vibe, there is not much light in the main dining area. However, we did see another dining area where more light seemed to enter, so I would request as such if you prefer it. I will say that the dimness did add to the cozy cabin feel. My sister and i actually went two days straight First day we had Jenni as our waitress and she was amazing, so kind and attentive. We ordered the reindeer carpaccio, each had the sauteed reindeer, and we finished with the blueberry pie. The carpaccio was cold and delicious. The sauteed reindeer was delightful and a cozy dish while being extremely traditional of lapland. The pie was meh though- would recommend something else. The second day we had tbe carpaccio again and while my sister re-ordered the sauteed reindeer i had the smoked fish salad- it was basically a cesar salad with smoked salmon, HUGE salad i could only have half!!! Overall a great meal with very traditional options and a small menu (also pictured) but all great choices (from what i had).
Be the first to ReplyIt was great ambiance and totally touristy environment.
That said it was expensive, food was mediocre and staff was just Ok. Definitely not the best place in Helsinki. I am very disappointed. I have expected way more for the &.

I believe I have written only two bad reviews ever on Yelp, so this really pains me to do. I need to start with the positive of course which is my food being the salad and the Reindeer were spot on. The crisp Salad Greens were accompanied with fresh Dill Sprigs, very tender chopped Salmon, and I believe a Farmer Cheese that was cubed. The dressing is unknown, but great and so light that it took nothing away from the other components. My entree of the Reindeer was stupendous. The meat was so delicate and expressed beautiful flavor with the Lingonberries rested to the side on top of rich, creamy Mashed Potatoes, that didn't feel like they were weighed down with a ton of fat. Now, the reason why I am only giving Two Stars. I am a Server too by Trade and I live and die by the level of service provided, because Servers do not earn a wage in the United States. We are dependent upon the Tips of our Guests to take care of our needs. My friend is 100% Vegetarian which can make it harder to find enjoyable places for everyone to eat. I watched the Server look at our Table twice as I ate and my friend literally push her plate to the side and not once asked her if everything was okay. The "Risotto" was drowning in cream with no seasoning in it or on the Vegetables. The Cheese just was on top not provided anything to elevate the dish. While the plate presentation was beautiful, the food flavor was a big failure. My Boss believes a Restaurant's strength is to focus on one style of cooking and be great at it. This establishment obviously can rock Finnish Dishes, but can't do Risotto or a strong Vegetable Entree to meet Guest appeal. Basically, do what you know and stay in your lane. The Manager was either not informed by the Server or just didn't care about the lack of satisfaction with the Vegitarian Dish as they never came over to talk about it and charged us for the Entree. Just check the photo of the Bill on this review. Major Fail for your handling of the Guest Experience.

This was recommended by our hotel and it was excellent in many ways. The two person appetizer was huge and expensive £50. We liked parts of the appetizer and didn't care for others. If I had known it was so huge we probably would have shared only one entree. The reindeer roast entree was superb -- especially the reduction on top. The pan fried fish Arctic char was not bad but run of the mill.

This is definitely a restaurant that a prime seller is the atmosphere and service! The food was yummy, but not as flavorful as some other spots we tried on our trip. The server who was a nice short-haired blonde lady was very attentive, friendly, and hard working. Especially if your visiting Finland for the first time this is a fun spot to really feel a traditional style vibe.

What an experience! My first time in Helsinki and was told to try this place for authentic Finnish dishes (salmon soup and reindeer, which I did not even get! ). The location is very inviting and the staff was very courteous and hospitable.I started with a side salad that was tossed in some sort of amazing vinaigrette (forgot to get the flavor) but it was very fresh and flavorful. For the main course I had the Smoked Salmon with mushroom sauce and boiled potatoes. The salmon was cooked to perfection! Nice crisp on the skin and cooked to medium on the inside. The mushroom sauce was extremely flavorful with a creamy texture. For dessert I had an apple pie with a scoop of ice cream which was not to overbearing and a nice cap to the meal. Highly recommend this place to anyone in Helsinki.

Such a unique, fun place!!! I loved the decor!!! I enjoyed the elk. It was delicious. the traditntal salmon soup was creamy and hot...and had a great size of salmon in it. Proportions were big for the prize as well. The blueberry royal drink was very fruity, and sweet. Think of it as a "girly drink". The service was somewhat slow. But if anyone reads my reviews on a consistent basis, they know I usually go to places by myself...so for the most part, I get treated a little different. It happens. The atmosphere was touristy...doesn't take away from the food.

This was my first real meal upon arriving in Helsinki and I recommend it to anyone else who would like a great first exposure to Finnish food. The atmosphere was truly like being transported into the heart of Lapland with rough hewn boards and adorable decor which made us feel quite cozy. The food was delicious, we had both reindeer dishes as well as the cloudberry cheese for desert. Oh Lord... the cloudberry cheese. If that desert were served in the U.S. I'd be so much fatter. Please go here, you won't regret it.
Be the first to ReplyFive for dinner, I called ahead and booked.
As it turned out, we were early and they were able to seat us. The restaurant is quite warm and toasty with a lot of exposed wood that give it a "country" feel. Service was excellent all around as well. Two of us split the "sampler" platter which came with reindeer, elk, more elk, sausage, baked potato and a lingonberry garnish on one big platter and a big bowl of roasted root vegetables on the side. A tremendous meal and quite delicious. The sausage was good as was the reindeer but it seemed that the elk was just too gamey flavored to be enjoyed. Still, an excellent meal and a great way to try lots of different things.Really enjoyed and would definitely go back.[Review 10078 overall, 1663 of 2018.]
Be the first to ReplyNice home style food in an excellent setting.
Certainly something to try if you visit Helsinki.
Be the first to ReplyVery good food.
Reindeer meat wasn't my favorite (not a fault of the restaurant) but Elk was so good. In general the food was cooked to perfection. They have the best gravy you'll ever try. Service was top notch as there were waitresses constantly checking the areas making sure you had water and everything you need. Considered very expensive but I felt like it was on par with most of Europe.
