L’Ami Jean Paris Reviews from The Last Year
Shockingly BAD!!!!!!
Absolutely disgusting and filthy. The website showed octopus but not on menu. Pigeon was raw. No cocktails except sprtirz. Shocking service and wouldn’t even call a taxi. Do not go!!!! All the punters are tourists who know no better!!!! Worst meal ever in Paris after years of visiting !!!
Had a reservation for July.
They cancelled it. A month later. . Might try to walk in at a later date.
Great bistro
Small and cozy restaurant with good athmosphere. Waiters with attention and service. The food could maybe be a bit better. For starter we choose the eggplant sandwich which was nearly without any taste and too big as a starter. The other starter was the risotto, and that one was perfect. Main dish; fish of the day and roasted guinea fowl. The fish was perfect and the bird was maybe a bit dry, however i liked it. The desserts was ok. Strawberrys and pavlova.
Dissappointing - avoid if you dont have much time in Paris
Really dissappointing - only 3 days in Paris. Very sad… the seared tuna was smelly and not fresh, they were polite to remove it from the bill. The waiter didnt explain any of the dishes - nor wines. The aubergine farci was the worst dish - it was full of water. You could literally fill half a cup of water if you’d squeeze it. There was no taste - which worried me, this dish this should be easiest to prepare. The meat was tender but tje thyme was overriding the taste - no balance, no refinement. Hugely deceptive - I didnt see the famous chef - it looked like a young team of “sorry” amateurs.
tasting menu extraordinaire! fantastic service.
very small, lively, and cozy space encourage one to know your adjacent patrons. will be back in two years.
Amazing food.
From the lamb and beef entree to the seabass, we came back a 2nd night, out of only 4 nights in Paris. Small place, so make reservation, or expect to be turned away. Their rice pudding is to die for.
Underwhelming and Disappointing. None of the energy, warmth, or uniqueness that we had read in other reviews.
This was one reservation that I was most excited about during our 5 nights in Paris. My wife and I are avid foodies and regular ‘restaurant tourists’, having eaten our way through 5 continents and fortunately based in Seattle, Washington - home to some solid food. My wife speaks fluent, native French - so language barrier and the potential of being mistreated for being tourists was fortunately removed. The issues with our night began the minute we walked in the door. Half of the tables were empty, the energy was low, the volume level was subdued (despite the reviews and our expectations), and there was literally a lack of ambiance. Upon arriving the hosts/servers seemed discombobulated/distracted and uninterested in welcoming us. It was a cold introduction to a place that was hailed as warm, boisterous, and with lots of character. There was no explanation of the menu, recommendations or anything like that. The chef wasn’t present, he 100% wasn’t in the back and I saw him briefly when I came in but he disappeared most of the night after that. We began with a bottle of cotes du Rhône and ordered the grilled octopus +potatoes and seared tuna for starters. Entrees , sea bass for wife, suckling pig for me. Desserts - rice pudding and strawberry and cream. 1. Octopus dish was unique and was pretty, the potatoes were delicious, but cold and only 4 small ones in total. 25€ for the plate, it was good, but the value was not really there. 2. Seared tuna “Japanese style” with rice. Was expecting something more akin to a crispy rice dish with sushi grade tuna. We received a filet that was seared, with the skin left on (inedible as it was raw), and some rice just sprinkled around? It tasted good but was sloppy and lazy to leave the skin on and a bit surprising given the attention to detail for plating. 3. Wife ordered the sea bass, it was delicious but fairly simple. No complaints. 4. Suckling pig was incredibly disappointing. I actually thought it was just a pork tenderloin. The skin was not crispy at all, it was not hot, and just lacked flavor. Easily could have reproduced a better tasting dish on my own at home. The plate was beautiful, but personally not worth the 45€, more ~ €20 for the actual execution. 5. Rice pudding was delicious, but super simple. And again you’re paying for the fact that you’re eating at a renowned chefs restaurant (albeit the fact he’s not even involved with the making of your dish). 6. Strawberries and cream, were delicious but the theme of being overpriced for what your paying stays consistent. The total meal was €212, we ate our plates and it’s clear the ingredients being used are top notch, but the experience was sub par. It was awkward, uncomfortable, not warm, Not cozy, not loud, not unique. The pissed off, hyperbolic chef wasn’t there, and I was kind of hoping for that vs what we were presented with. Easily the most disappointing and lowest value meal we had in Paris. If it was €150 I would have felt somewhat better about it, but even then I would have been disappointed.
5/5 stars!!!! Such a cute and home style place in Paris.
This was our favorite restaurant here. I made reservations about a month ago because I heard online that this place was good. The place was so cute and quaint and it felt like home. There were not too many tables and we were treated so kindly. We started off with the soup of the day, and it came with two bowls of cheese shreds at the bottom and looked pretty unassuming. She then came over with a pitcher and poured a hot soup into each bowl. We tried it and the first sip blew our minds. Absolutely divine. It was probably one of the best soups I've ever had, and I felt like I was in that Ratatouille scene where the chef tries the ratatouille dish and he's in pure bliss. Not too rich, but creamy, flavorful and so addicting. I then had the cod, and husband had the braised beef. It tasted so homestyle, but was plated so nicely at the same time. Cod was flaky and tender. Beef was also so so soft and flavorful too. Would definitely made another visit here if I come back to Paris. Such a great experience!!
Not your typical dining experience!
A unique experience. Great food, open kitchen with hyperbolic chef! Tight quarters and noisy; but a lot of fun. Chef is very passionate about his food and the presentation. Never a dull moment. Don't go there for a quiet dinner for two. Do go there if you want delicious food in a robust environment. Not what I expected, but cant wait to go back!
Cozy little authentic restaurant. Expensive. Good food.
It’s a nice, cozy, antique restaurant. Always crowded. Very loud atmosphere, but in a good way. Small tables, almost communal. Service is good, professional some of the waiters do speak English. The master chef is fun and always yelling and screaming, probably to make an ambience. I was surprised that all the customers were English speaking, it must be featured in a travel book, I know that it was recommended that the New York Times four years ago. Food is great and generous for French restaurant. We were really full. We have several items and they’re all great, including the asparagus with octopus, the amazing cod (bacalao or morue) and braised beef and duck breast. The smells are impressive. The food is full of flavor. They use a lot of herbs mainly oregano. The wine list is limited, but most likely reflective of the origins of the restaurant. We had a dessert and it was great; the basque almond tarte. David, next to us had the rice dessert and it also looked huge and tasty. The restaurant is expensive, all appetizers are around the €20 and all main courses are around 40 and above. We saw some people order the menu degustation and it was very generous. Overall, very nice cozy
Great little restaurant our hotel recommended.
Very friendly atmosphere with great food and service
Uniformly great!
Always terrific great food (and a lot of it!) this is one of our favorites. Comfortable and casual yet top notch bistro food, don’t skip the rice pudding for dessert!
Really incredible.
The beef charcuterie was perfect, the octopus was among the best I've had, and yet the parmesan soup was maybe our favorite of the three. The beef shoulder was incredible, although if I have any issue with it, it's that it stops us from ordering so many of the other incredible things I saw on other people's tables. We'll have to come back to try more.
Excellent dinner in super ambiance
We had a great dinner with super ambiance in a very cosy place. Riz de veau was super as well as riz au lait… do not hesitate.
I will never stop raving about the rice pudding at l'ami
I will never stop raving about the rice pudding at l'ami jean. I mean quite frankly the best dessert I had during my week in France. It's the perfect balance between sweet and creamy, and the textures from the nuts and caramel just takes it to the next level. The restaurant is so friendly and really has the local feel. We strictly came for the rice pudding but everything else smelled amazing too. Will be back to try more on my next trip! DONT MISS IT, once you try it you'll be thinking about it for the rest of your trip.
The food and service was superb.
The fish for the day, although not filling for e42 a small sliver, was truly melt in your mouth perfection. The beef shoulder entree was quite worth the e42 price tag for quantity, taste and quality. The ambiance was more of fine dining at a busy American hole-in-the-wall pub. 50+ patrons crammed in that small space and more people waiting outside. Will we come back? Maybe. But if we do, it would be during the week when it is less busy so we wont feel so rushed.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
