La mia Mamma Hollywood Road London Reviews from The Last Year
Not as good as it once was.
Really disappointing. Cold pizza sent back my motherβs pasta was greasy and tasteless. It seemed liked everything was pre-made and heated up. Tiramisu completely unremarkable. Go to other Italian restaurants in the area.
Totally pasta-tastic
Just around the corner, humble and understated is a totally authentic Italian restaurant. We where greeted like family, treated like friends as we enjoyed a long lazy lunch. The food was fast, hot and magical. The beer was perfect and for me, started the meal with aplomb. We ate beautiful food, made with love served swiftly and packed with Italian wow-ness. We ate, drank and repeated. So so so good. Loved it.
Atmospheric, authentic italian albeit expensive for the food and service quality
Interesting concept behind the group's restaurants is that Italian grandmothers (nonnas) do a residency at the restaurant and create a menu based on the classic dishes of the region of Italy they come from. I visited when the restaurant was showcasing the Emilia Romagna region. Upon being seated, and before ordering, we were served fresh bruschetta followed by risotto alla genovese. The bruschetta was delicious whilst the risotto was quite claggy and cold. We tried to order some wine and were told that our two choices were both out of stock before having to order a third variety which was significantly more expensive which was a shame. It took ages for the wine to come. The menu is quite complicated with different set menus entailing a combination of antipasti / pasta / pizza / mains / desserts depending on what you choose but was poorly explained by the staff. Assuming the bruschetta and risotto were the 'antipasti' included in the set menu we opted for that each which was Β£41 for antipasti, pasta or pizza, and dessert as well as a glass of prosecco. The prosecco took ages to come, arriving after our wine. In fact the antipasti was in addition to what we had already received and therefore it was wholly unnecessary to order the set menu when we could have just moved onto mains. The antipasti was a sharing board including fish & potato stew, cured meats, burrata, ragu, bread, caponata, stracciatella. The ragu was nice but would've been happy without the rest. We ordered 1x cacio e pepe and 1x ragu for mains, however, the staff brought 2x cacio e pepe. So that we could eat together, both mains were sent back, however, when they came back the second time, the cacio e pepe had clearly just been microwaved instead of remade and was claggy and unpleasant. For desert, you don't get an option but instead are served a sharing board of tiramisu, chocolate cake and cheesecake - we were so full by this point we didn't want any and also thought we would get to choose a dessert rather than being served all 3 (we didn't like 2 of them to begin with). The atmosphere was great with 'nonnas' often coming over to explain the food or serve up side orders like the bruschetta (which we now know were complimentary - not explained well). Overall the food was mediocre and the menu was poorly explained resulting in too much food ordered (did not need the set menu) and the dinner being very expensive. The wine selection was slim and what they actually had in stock was expensive. Our mains were incorrect and then when served correctly, they were cold and unappetising as were the desserts and the restaurant did nothing to compensate for this. Tables are very close together and it is difficult to hear. Also check your bill as they included various random and incorrect charges on ours.
Disappointed
The only thing Italian about the food was in some of the names. Tried a few of the dishes and they simply lacked taste. Italian food for people that donβt know any better. Was served pasta in a frying pan! Offer this to any Italian mamma and you would be getting chased.
What a charming place! We heard of this place from Stanley
What a charming place! We heard of this place from Stanley Tucci and boy, did this place NOT disappoint. We had no reservations but they gave us choice to wait or sit at the bar. We ordered two pastas, one with meatballs and the other with broccoli and sausage. The pasta comes in little steel pans and they plop it straight in front of you. The wine and pistachio tiramisu were outstanding and the entertainment amazing!!!
I stopped by for dinner on a Friday night and managed to
I stopped by for dinner on a Friday night and managed to grab seats at the bar around 7pm without a reservation. My friend and I both opted for the fixed menu which came with a healthy assortment of appetizers, pasta, drinks, and dessert. The chef selects the appetizers and everything tasted amazing. The pasta though was the real highlight though. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. We opted for the cacio e pepe and alla norma, both of which I'd highly recommend. There were also some birthday celebrations and the even the nonnas come out to drop off the dessert at the table. I'd highly recommend this spot for any upcoming birthdays. I can't wait to come back and try some of their other pastas and mains.
Our new favourite Italian
We had a wonderful experience, not only because of the delicious food, but because of the service from Mamma Marta and Antonio. Antonio was such a knowledgeable and attentive waiter and very friendly and Mamma Marta was so warm and genuine and of course, a brilliant cook! We had the 3 course menu. The starter is a mixture of Italian dishes and for our mains, we chose tagliatelle bolognese and lasagne and they were both delicious. We look forward to going back when we are in London again.
Go for a great evening
We went after watching Stanley Tucci's series about London. Man were we not disappointed. The Mama was fro the Puglia region and the food was spectacular, service spot on. If you go to any of there locations in London one recommendation is....come hungry!
Friendly place
The place is wonderful, and the food tastes very good, the best Italian food and Maria was very kind and friendly. Thank very much to Maria you are the best
Oh mamma mia!!!
This was exactly what we were looking for. Excellent traditional Italian food made by Italian mammas! The staff was excellent as well. Maria made the experience and treated us like family. Would definitely recommend.
Charming restaurant with great service
Maria was amazing, she is so lovely and the food is delicious - I had the tuna salad. La Mia mamma is a lovely place to spend a warm evening in London. A rare find with a real charm.
Great meal, thanks Maria
Excellent set menu, generous portions and all staff welcoming and attentive. Thank you Maria for looking after us so well.
The website says they don't take reservations for parties
The website says they don't take reservations for parties under four but pretty much everyone that can in had them. We were the first customers for the dinner service and we're glad we got there when we did. It took awhile to actually get seated, which was odd as we were the only customers. We did a dinner special of a glass of Prosecco, a share appetizer as individual mains at 45Β£ per person. We had an issue with the appetizer and the staff took care of it. The shared desert was four different treats and the coffee mousse was incredible. Hands down the best on the plate of great treats. It's a bit of a hike from the nearest underground station (South Kensington) but the food was good and plentiful.

We went to this spot based on the Stanley Tucci series, and were happy to snag reservations. We were seated downstairs in a cozy basement, which has a great vibe. Our servers were amazing, one person with 1 assistant handled 30 plus guests. We never waited for anything, we asked and it was delivered. We got the fixed menu, and started with our glass of Prosecco, followed but our drinks of choice and our anti-pasta.The drinks were great, the anti-pasta,was only ok. It was an odd mix of things with no bread to dip into the liquids or anything like that. As a matter of fact every other table got Bruschetta but we didn't. We probably would have liked that more. On to our dinner, I had the cacio e pepe, which was very good but almost to cheesy compared to that I've had in Italy many times. My partner had the Carbonara, he didn't care for it. The pasta was too Al dente for him (I know, I know) and it was pretty dry especially compared to mine. The deserts were tasty, as was the espresso and the Limoncello was excellent ! All in all we were glad we went, but probably wouldn't go back. Oh and btw, the Mama who was working in the front window was an absolute doll !
We thoroughly enjoyed the food and experience.
Thank you Stanley Tucci for the recommendation. The antipasti was not what I expected. It was a varied array of interesting and unexpected small plates, and left us almost too full to have our pasta course. We shared cacio e pepe and ziti Genovese. Preferred the ziti. We also added eggplant parmigiana which was also very good, but too much food to eat.
I loved the food.
I liked all the staff. I absolutely HATED the ambience. Mass chaos. The loudest place I have the displeasure to endure. My ears hours later are still ringing from the noise assault. We were seated at a minuscule table right by the entrance on the main passage way. Right next to the staircase for the lower level dining room. We were constantly being bumped and shoved during our 90 minute meal. The tables next to ours on the side and behind me were less than 18 inches away. If you are seated at this area just get up and leave. It will be impossible to enjoy your meal. There are dozens of eateries within 100 yards of this place. Go to one of those.

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
