One of top spots for dinner in SLO
This meal was so good, we ate there twice in 4 nights in SLO. Authentic Italian food. My beet salad, and GF pasta with pomodoro sauce were excellent. The wine incredible. I'd definitely eat there again. Great atmosphere inside.

We had excellent food here. The pasta was fresh and the special was particularly delicious. The tiramisu was a real treat. If we were staying longer we would come again.

We came here for dinner two nights in a row, just loved the food and enjoyed wonderful service. Itโs the first time I saw escargots on menu of any Italian restaurant, they made it really well too. โRolled eggplant stuff with gruyere and hamโ was great too. Spaghetti carbonara and duck confit are both authentic and tasty! They have a charming back patio, itโs very cozy, and safe :))

From our initial greeting, plating of food, selections of both wine and entries, our evening was lovely. The ravioli stuffed with butternut squash delicious seasoned perfectly and the tagliatelle with spinach excellent. Tiramisu for dessert great. We will eat here again.

We came upon this restaurant quite by accident after visiting the Thursday Farmer's Market. We did not a reservation but a table was prepared for us on the patio as we asked. Our server was very helpful and suggested a bottle of the Barbera Damilano since we indicated we wanted a red wine. The wine was excellent. We ordered the Carpaccio to share. It was nicely presented with fresh greens, tender thin slices of beef, mushrooms and shaved Parmasean cheese. I ordered lasagna Bolognese. It was deliciously flavored with nutmeg. My husband had Fetuccine di carne. The sauce was excellent but some of the pasta was stuck together. No problem...it was still good. The patio was small, breezy and quite delightful. Service was polished and personal.
Be the first to ReplyWorst Dining Experience in Memory
This was without a doubt, the worst dining experience I can remember. I booked a last minute 7pm reservation. Everywhere was booked for Valentine's Day, so the fact I was able to get a reservation last minute had me wondering... We arrived early and the restaurant had several open tables so we were able to get a table immediately. We were greeted by the waiter and was able to get a couple glasses of wine... and then things started to slide. Tables started to fill and we waited to place our order. 30 minutes later the owner took our order. As we continued to wait, we started to notice the body language other patrons, and some of the vocal comments being made. Every table in the restaurant was being ignored. We saw a number of tables just get up and leave, one person saying, "the people arriving for Take-Outs meals are getting better service than us". Overwhelmingly obvious frustration across the restaurant. We thought about leaving a couple of times, but knew there were no other options on such a busy night. If any event, when the food arrived 40 minutes after we placed the order it was cold, tasteless and had no indication of any freshness. Tasted like boiled pasta with canned tomato sauce. The other order was their salmon which was a tiny portion. Also, we ordered minestrone soup, was told they were out and that we would get zuccini soup... what was brought to the table was cold cauliflower soup... The main thing that irritated me was that it was obvious the owner could care less. Made absolutely no effort to apologize for anything. How this place stays in business is amazing.

The warm and friendly ambience upon entering La Locanda is a compliment to the entire experience. Indoor seating area is cute and cozy, outside patio is small and nicely appointed. Now for the food! Incredible handmade Pasta dishes. We started with the Burrata Al Modo Puglia which was so fresh and excellent. Pasta dishes as follows. Ravioli Di Zucca, Agnolotti Alla Piedmontese, Lasagna Alla Bolognese and a wonderful special Tagliatelle. All four dishes were prepared exquisitely.
I can honestly say this is the best Italian Restaurant Iโve been to in California. Highly recommend La Locanda and look forward to visiting again soon.
Best dinner in SLO
La Locanda was easily the best dinner my boyfriend and I had for our SLO mini-vacation. The food was perfect, the back patio was cute, and the service from our enthusiastic waiter set good vibes and provided us with good recommendations. Now back to the food!
The burrata alla puglia is phenomenal. It's super soft and creamy, seasoned with the right amount of salt and pepper. It comes on a little salad that has its own light dressing and we sopped up the plate with bread.
The lasagna! The bolognese sauce was rich and delicious but honestly, there is a beautiful layer of what we think is bechamel sauce and it creates the most pillowy gooey sensation when you bite into it. We loved the lasagna.
Spaghetti carbonara is life-changing and will set you right from any carbonaras you've had before. The egg sauce is so rich by itself and then you swirl the most perfect al dente strands of spaghetti in it and it's heavenly.
The tiramisu is made of ladyfinger cookies - no sponge cake in sight - so major props for that.
We are somewhat lucky we found this restaurant on our last night in SLO because if we had gone there first, we would've eaten at La Locanda every night.
A Gem of an Italian Restaurant
I love this place and go often when visiting San Luis Obispo. My friends who live there first took me and now its one of my favorites too. There lasagna is fantastic and so satisfying. I've also had fish entrees which are also excellent.

I met a client there after a fun evening of holiday shopping. It was both of our first time so we completely trusted our server, Lucas, and went with his suggestions. I am so glad we did! The wine was fabulous and the Lasagna was the absolute best I have ever tasted. When we arrived it was quiet but as the evening progressed the dining room filled with a variety of clientele. A smaller restaurant with crisp white table cloths, attentive staff and authentic Italian food. So very good!

This is a small restaurant in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo, CA that serves authentic Italian food. My family & I love this place! We also love their head waiter Lucas who is always so friendly and has so much enthusiasm for all the delicious food they serve. I highly recommend โก

THE LASAGNA! It is not your american-style, it's a melt-in-your-mouth experience. The salmon special was excellent also. Extensive wine list and (best of all) very enthusiastic and friendly service.

The 3 of us dine here on a Sunday evening in May. We thought it would be really busy (we arrived shortly before 8pm) but we were the only table dining. The chef/owner was sitting with a friend/customer. Wait service by Chris was friendly, informative & efficient. We had the lasagna bolognese, fetuccine di carne, and ravioli zucca, along with a bottle of Sangiovese wine. The 3 of us were content with our meals. If we lived in the area we would likely try this restaurant again.
