Lunch in New York
After a morning walk, we came across this restaurant. Seeing it from the outside you start to think 'where have I ended up'..... then when you enter there is a nice atmosphere and the food is really good in this restaurant. Very friendly staff and they also have live music in the evening. I advise

Super cozy "cave" hidden under a diner. Really good service, food and atmosphere. Delicious Mexican food that we can highly recommend. Remember to book a table well in advance.

Surprisingly underground, you walk around the restaurant and suddenly find yourself at โmetro levelโ. Dark but attractively decorated. everything tasty. Excellent service and nice atmosphere. Try the margarita cocktail.
Be the first to ReplyAn experience you can't miss in NY
Despite knowing it from other trips to NYC, I continue to be surprised by this restaurant hidden under what looks like a street taco stand. The food is a 10 and the service is great.
Be the first to ReplyImmaculate Vibes
Super cool vibe that is definitely unsuspecting based on the exterior--you'll know what I mean if you go there. Probably one of my newest favorite places to recommend to people visiting the city. Their food was incredible, incredible tequila selection, great vibes, friendly staff, all of which contribute to a memorable experience. Will surely be going back with friends, loved ones, business dinners--you name it!
Be the first to ReplyA BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!
We weโre SO disappointed about literally EVERYTHING with this restaurant! 1. The food did not taste anything and the beef was chewy, my friend couldnโt even finish her tacos. 2. The service was really bad. We had to wait for our table, wait 30 min to even order drinks and when we finally got to order food, the waiter did not copy our order which led to us receiving something completely different than we thought we ordered. 3. The staff had a really bad attitude! They were RUDE, talked about us and laughed. I would NOT recommend to visit!
Be the first to ReplyA Seriously Cool Place To Eat.
On a Soho corner sits a crowded taco shop called La Esquina, a multifaceted Mexican spot that is housed in a restored 1950's diner. Tacos with filings like sliced rib-eye, grilled mahi mahi, seared cauliflower amongst others are slung all day from the compact corner taqueria. In the downstairs brasserie there is an expanded menu....... ....Queso fundido, various ceviches and more. I zeroed in on the Sopa De Tortilla with Avocado & Chili and Steak Pepito Torta with black Beans, Jalapenos & Chimichurri. This is an underground hot spot, a bit grungy, dark, crowded and feels like you might be eating in a basement..........but people love it. It's one of NYC best spots for food and drink. A seriously cool place to eat.
Be the first to ReplyAvoid at all cost, save your money and watch out you don't get robbed.
This place sucks now, it's gone wayyyy downhill. My expensive leather jacket was stolen. I emailed twice over 10 days, no reply. It's just a money grab for tourist now.

Booked a table for 4 people. We were crammed onto the smallest table and were told thatโs just how it is when we asked for some more space. You are basically sitting with the table next to you. The restaurant smelled a bit bad, like dampness and there were buckets hanging every few inches all along the ceiling. It did not feel sanitary, so unfortunately we chose to leave.
Be the first to Replywe weren't welcome
We arrived at 11'55 for lunch. The door was open and staff was there. But nevertheless the waiter made us wait on the rather chilly and windy street because it opened at noon. What a warm welcome! 5 minutes later the waiter made us sit on a table next to the door. It was as cold and windy as on the street because the backdoor too was open and there was a terrible draught of air. When we asked if it was possible to close the door he told us that he wanted the door open. We told him that in this case we would have to leave, he didn't care and answered "ok, leave!". What we did immediately because rarely we have encountered such an attitude.

This restaurant is popular, the first time we tried it was booked out, so we came the following day. The food is excellent, was proof to us that we don't have any proper Mexican food in London. The bar had a varied choice as well. The atmosphere underground and the decor were gorgeous. A very good final night in New York.

Good food and nice atmosphere. We had different kinds of tacos which were nice enough but not exceptional. Great service.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing hidden gem!
Thankfully we got a tip to go to La Equina and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was amazing- the music, the artwork, the candles, the bar, the tile work, etc. And the drinks and the food was delicious. Very friendly service and a great vibe from all the staff- even the serious doorman!
Be the first to ReplyNice vibe; good food
This is a very cool restaurant both inside and outside, capturing the Mexican vibe very well. The food was good but not great. We had fried cheese with chorizo and soft tacos, beef tortilla, a pulled pork sandwich and black beans. Service was quick and the prices reasonable.
Be the first to ReplyTERRIBLE SERVICE
The worst service I experienced. I went with my cousin and ordered Tacos, and she said didn't want spice, anyway they brought all spice, she refused to take it, and they make us more than 30 minutes to bring back the right order, then we decided to cancel and leave, a big man followed us and charged the Chips with a little Guacamole they serve to everyone, $16,00 more than the.tacos. Very bad service.
Be the first to ReplyGood venue
Itโs probably a bit misleading with the upstairs being a separate restaurant from downstairs but if you look at the pics on the website itโs not too difficult to fathom out. The food was good especially the corn and all tasted really fresh. Was a bit surprised they donโt do guacamole as they want you to try different things but actually glad. Def worth a trip.
Be the first to ReplyGreat taqueria diner upstairs but the basement may disappoint
So spotted this seemingly ancient-looking authentic. Mexican diner in the corner in the evening storm in our last night in NY(from Wales) and thought wld be grt for a quick bite. Lovely tacos and quesadillas and reasonablle. V genuine. Took a bit of effort to get the waitress of their adjoining restaurant to allow us to use loo! Noticed a number of young ish trendy (v similar socio demographic) people coming in and being allowed thru a net door by the lovely guy sitting at the door. Got chatting and he explained hat downstairs was a v exclusive brassiere, booked months in advance. Vv kindly said we cld have a drink down there so off we went down stairs, theu the kitchen (all a bit of a set up) into a nicely shabby chic bar and restaurant. Music bit loud tbh and was like my umba class. Asked for a couple of beers, 8 dollars each for a small can. Had to ask for a glass! Think barman still expected a tip!! A fun extra experience but seriously, I would just go and eat in the diner, far more fun!! Shame not actually owned by a real Mexican family but by a former wasp axhitect, hey ho!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible coat check.
Great place and ambiance. The girl working coat check yesterday 3/12 was extremely rude and claimed coat check was 2 dollars per coat, even though every time me and my friends have been there itโs been free. When we questioned her she said she would call her manager on us.
I have no problem tipping coat check, but she was rude from the very start and then wanted to scam us so therefore no tip. Extremely unprofessional. Even if coat check was $2 it should be informed when checking in, not when picking them out.
A shame and will not go back to this bar.
Muy Delicioso
Short Rib (bistro con quest) , Pescado & Carnitas tacos were delicious. Interesting location. Also got a small Guacamole. $22 was inexpensive and reasonable.

This authentic soho gem stands apart from all other competitors. Wait staff is incredible as is the food and ambiance. Been here many times and it has never lost it's luster. Will keep returning as long as they will have me:)

I absolutely loved our visit to La Esquina! Gina was our wonderful waitress and she made such a fabulous impression! She was friendly, she was informative and she was overall a great person to have a conversation with!
I was recommended this restaurant by one of my bosses. I love the concept! When you walk up to the venue it looks like a street stall, however when you give your reservation name to the man at the door you're led down a small staircase and through the kitchen to find this incredibly cool, quirky and hugely atmospheric restaurant! We tried a number of items on the menu - the Queso and the steak tacos were sooo good! My boyfriend ordered something which sadly wasn't to his taste, as he found the sauce a little too sickly, and our fab waitress took it off the bill for us!
I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting. It was great!! I only wish I wasn't so exhausted from all the site-seeing as I'd have enjoyed a number of cocktails in to the night!
Poor service
I had a very bad experience at this restaurant. The doorman was very rude with my girlfriend and me. I donโt know his name but he wore a red cap and is African American. He did not want to show us around the restaurant to take some photos for our Instagram account, although he kept saying La Esquina was the most popular restaurant in the city. He was so full of himself! We did not tip him and we will never come back to this restaurant! So disappointing!

The food was absolutely incredible and the staff was just the friendliest. Service was awesome too. If I lived in New York this would definitely be one of my spots.

A cloak and dagger beginning to an unforgettable experience. Terrific food and mouth watering cocktails with great service
Be the first to ReplyBirthday party for 13! Perfect
We recently had a dinner for 13 at La Esquina SOHO. I was hesitant to do the required prix fixe but it turned out that was the way to go! The ceviche was the best I have had! The fish and avocado tacos were also excellent ! All food was excellent . Even the cake! Our server probably had a lot to do with making the evening perfect; Michelle was incredible. Very cool vibe and music too.
