Ko Ramen & Sushi Champaign Reviews from The Last Year
As guests at a Birthday party I was really impressed with
As guests at a Birthday party I was really impressed with the way the servers kept 30plus orders organized. They were attentive, polite and professional. The restaurant itself is lovely. Our private room was brightly lit but the other spaces seemed very dark. Drinks were delivered quickly and reasonable wait time between meal orders. The food was excellent. I was a bit disappointed in that there is a starter sushi sampler( 4 rolls) but for some convoluted reason that I really did not understand I wasn't able to order it. I did have a the apple walnut salad which was very small but enjoyable. My husband had the stir fry with shrimp which he graciously shared with me and he still have enough to bring home for lunch the next day. The stir fry was so delicious. Full of mushrooms and veggies in a smokey savory sauce. Over all the meal was very nice. Staff friendly and the have a private parking as well. I wish I had taken photos! Our meal was $65. Which included.: 1 mixed drink 1 soft drink 1 salad 1 shrimp stir fry 20% gratuity.

I've been going to Ko Fusion for many years, and while the new location has a wonderful ambiance and is one of C-U's limited options for (almost) fine dining, the food is usually just above mediocre and the service fluctuates. My last service experience there went from very nice to frustrating to deeply insulting. The hostess (and either owner or FOH manager, I'm guessing) greeted us kindly, led us to our table outside, and wished us a lovely meal. It was a summer weekend evening so it was packed and our order was taking longer than typical. My friend and I were enjoying our drinks and conversation and never bugged our server about the wait, but then noticed an order that looked a lot like ours being brought to a table of patrons who had arrived after us. We patiently watched the food be served to them and were good-natured when that table's order was brought to us about 10 mins later. We helped the runner understand what had happened and asked if we could have something comped for the mix-up; especially because we would now have to wait longer for our correct order. They said they'd talk to our server and instructed us to do so as well. Our server offered the option of a free dessert to share or seeing if something could be comped. My friend and I are both watching our sugar intake so we declined the dessert. Before our correct order came, we watched 3-4 tables that were seated after us receive their food. This meant that our ticket was not moved up, as is typically the case for a messed up order. I worked in restaurants for almost a decade and if the kitchen messed up a ticket, it became priority- and if a server screwed up, they'd get a manager to move the ticket up. Clearly, neither happened with our ticket. At the end of the meal, we asked again about the possibility of something being comped and a few minutes later, the hostess/manager came barreling over to our table and actually began fussing at us. She told us we already got something free and something about how we want more and can't we see how busy they are. We were confused because we had declined the dessert and weren't aware of any free items. It may be that the server told her that they'd offered the dessert and she thought we'd accepted that and also wanted something comped- but rather than clarify what was being requesting and explain what they could or couldn't do for us, she spoke to us like children or like people just trying to get something for free. As Black women who have experienced this more times than we could count (others being served before us and being chastised for expecting good service), we quickly said "forget it" and let her know we didn't appreciate how she was speaking to us. I also let her know that I wouldn't be returning (after 8 yrs of patronage) and that I'd redirect my department's business dinners in the future. This particular situation may not have been racial, but because it looked and felt like so many situations we have experienced that unquestionably were, we left pretty angry and demoralized. Regardless, it was a really poor way to treat customers.
Everything was so good.
Excellent service and very friendly staff. My favorite sushi spot in Champaign IL.

Honestly, I slowed down my visits to KoFusion because things seemed to slip a bit in terms of food quality, service etc. I decided to try again and now I remember why I really enjoyed this spot. Let's start with Evelyn-- our waitress, simply amazing service. She provided suggestions and was attentive! Her level of care and service started things out with the right vibe, it was only up from there! I had the white dragon at Evelyn's suggestion (sorry no photo, but the lychee was refreshing on a humid, warm day!) The cheese curds were tasty, I'd never tried them prior to today, despite all of the times I've frequented KoFusion. Tip: be sure to ask for a side of sweet chili sauce... You're welcome! I love the Flaming Phoenix, it's such a tasty roll! I even eat the lemon slices with my roll. Also had the Fuji Snow, which provides such refreshing flavor-- again perfect for a summer day! Didn't order the Chicago this time, but it is one of my absolute favorites... Finished off with my favorite dessert, crème brûlée it's well-executed here! This was a very enjoyable visit. This is the version of KoFusion that I know and love... this is the way to keep folks coming back for more! Definitely passed the vibe check!

The food was fantastic, Jay was checking on us throughout the time we were there (which was a good long while, I wish I could have tipped better). One of those experiences that is so good that one forgets to take pictures (the sushi was perfect). The whole place was like a work of art, so beautiful

Owner is charging an illegal tip out to the business of 6% of sale. Owners or supervisors are not allowed to receive tips- its illegal. Who do I contact for a complaint. The place would be great if the owner would chill out and stop giving servers such a hard time and yelling at them to the verge of tears.
Not worth it.
Overpriced, below average food quality. Okay service but for the price I had to pay, there are town lots of other choices around the area

The food was delicious! We had reservations so had no trouble getting seated. Ambiance was good however it was very loud in there. We had a party of 6 beside us and they were very loud. The food was delicious. I ordered the coconut shrimp & mango roll. Parking is limited so carpool if possible.
Service was absolutely horrid.
Had 6 people in our party and all food came out at different times. Waited 30 minutes for a rib eye. IT WAS COLD. Included gratuity after our 6th party member did not it receive their order. This place is a joke. If you're in the area looking for somewhere to eat, go to Taco Bell instead.
The sushi was fresh and delicious.
I ordered the classic rainbow roll, fried vegetable dumplings, and tempura battered vegetables. Good price and service. The only negative was not enough Wasabi to share between 2 sushi rolls. I would definitely recommend trying.

I've been to kofusion previously and liked it a lot but I am not entirely crazy about their new location. The ambience is decidedly different at this new location - it almost seems too upscale for the cu community. Though I think their sushi and sashimi is pricey as opposed to some of my favorite LA and Seattle spots, I wanted to take my new-to-sushi experience brother and sister-in-law so we attempted to visit Wednesday night, arriving at about 8:20pm only to be told the kitchen was closed and that they were at last call for the bar. Being from places where one doesn't even go out until 7:30-8pm, I hadn't realized they closed so early and that's entirely my fault, but just now I checked the hours and learned Wednesday night closing time is 8:45pm. I'll remember that next time I go back, IF I bother to go back.

The crème brûlée is all we had and it was phenomenal! Can't wait to return to this beautiful spot to try more of their menu.

The sushi is excellent! I only wish I could have tried more of the options. It's fresh; the rolls are well designed (lovely combinations!); and the plating is lovely. Even though we were tucked away in what felt like an overflow room, the service was prompt, courteous, friendly. As is always the case, sushi is a pricey option. But we knew that going in. It would be nice if they offered more than one (weird tasting) caffeine free tea option. But for those of us who can tolerate caffeine with dinner, the jasmine tea was lovely.

Good food (all 3 dishes we tried - ramen, seafood noodle soup, bi bim bop), very nice ambience, and great service.
They changed to new location.
Great decor. Food is still taste good. Service is great. Price is in high end

I have always enjoyed the food at KoFusion, but I liked the ambiance at the old location better. I've made friends who work there and am definitely known as a "regular." I had a reservation for 5-6 people at 4 pm on Valentine's Day. Everyone thought they could be there by 4 pm, but it was closer to 4:30 when 4 of us ordered drinks. We were told around 4:50pm they had reserved about 80 minutes for each reservation that night. I was neither told this the night before when I made the reservation, nor that night when I was seated. Only once we ordered cocktails and were not rushing to order food, we were told we only had about 30 minutes left. Now, of course, I understand that Valentine's Day is a busy, busy night at restaurants, and we would not have lingered if people were waiting. However, we should have been told the night before that we had a limited time. We started at 4 pm so we would have plenty of time. We hardly ordered anything so we would not be rushed and left abruptly. We went somewhere else downtown, and we're welcomed with open arms, with no rushing and no waiting. There are now 5 people who were regulars at KoFusion who will not be going back anytime soon. The owner often interferes with our regular favorite and extremely experienced waiter, removing menus too soon, asking if we have everything we need, and taking away things from the table she 'thinks' we don't need. She is rude and butts in while we regulars, who I am certain she recognizes, dine at KoFusion with our favorite waiter. The wait staff are all great, and she only interrupts and confuses things when we are eating there. I don't know what kind of control issues she must have to follow around her most experienced staff and interrupt our service. The food is great, the new decor is very cafeteria like, and the owner is rude. 5 people will be avoiding this in the near future.

Great servers and the owner jumps in to help which makes me have faith in the business. If you want seafood in Champaign this is the place to go.
Old sushi and really unrealiable quality.
Ownership had too much money when they started and never passed it along to the staff or customers. Just ask some of their former staff about the company staff party and the delicacy fried Spam served to them. 50/50 chances of food poisoning.
Food is just not up to the quality that is advertised, and
Food is just not up to the quality that is advertised, and the prices are more expensive than most sushi places you'd find in Chicago. I got the Chirashi, which on top of being more expensive than the listed price on the website, also had substantially less food. The ambience of the environment is nice and the service is fine, but if it was not for a group outing, I would not come back to eat.
We tried some of the 1$ sushi rolls.
California roll, Spicy crab and Coconut shrimp were really good value. We also had Rainbow roll and miso soup. The fish on the rainbow roll seemed a little thin so I think I would try a different roll next time. The miso soup was quite good. For some reason I did not get any wasabi? I guess you need to ask for it.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
