Amazing restaurant!
We were staying at the Ritz for an anniversary weekend. Fortunately, one of few Florida Michelin starred restaurants was right there on the property. The whole vibe is bohemian/coastal, very contemporary. The restaurant was absolutely an incredible experience from start to finish. The excellent to details is spot on. Our table was decorated to celebrate our anniversary. They deliver a complimentary amuse bouche which this evening was a cucumber and pineapple soup? Being a bread snob, I love love loved the bread service experience. We ordered the filet and ribeye with mac and cheese and side of mushrooms. The entrees were very good. My filet was delicious and my husband's ribeye was very good...was it worth $185, sadly no. To me the restaurant was slightly overpriced but I understand. What really elevated this restaurant for me was the experience and treatment we received for our anniversary. We received a complimentary dessert with caramel popcorn topped with gold leaf, complimentary glasses of champagne and a box of macarons.
Be the first to ReplyFood better than the experience
The food was really good as is the wine list. We all enjoyed our various entrees including steaks. We thought the sides were average while the salads were excellent. However it’s impossible to have a conversation without shouting. We had a party of 6 and it was not fun. The restaurant reverberates noise. We needed a location for a business dinner and this won’t make the cut next time.
Be the first to ReplyMajor disappointment, not Michelin worthy
Disappointing. Came here ready for an amazing night but to be terribly disappointed. To be fair the service is good, although I’m not too fond of 5 different people come check on us all the time, but they were attentive. However the steak and this steak restaurant is below average. The server highly recommended us to order the almost $200 ribeye that the restaurant is famous for, however only the edge was edible to us. The middle part of the meat is dry and hard (we ordered medium rare). It’s difficult to eat, that’s how bad it was. We were excited for this Michelin star restaurant experience, but We can’t even finish it. We will not be returning and will bring our business back to Capa where they actually make good food.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent - highly recommend.
This was delightful!!! Attention to detail and impeccable service. The food was excellent. I had pasta bolognese (pasta made there fresh) and my husband had a steak. The carrot cake after dinner was wonderful and a perfect end of meal treat. The team that served us was professional and friendly.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional food - mediocre service - horrible ambiance
The food here was absolutely exceptional and worth more than even one star. Especially the lobster and the Casio de Pepe noodles. Absolutely super. Service was not up to par by any means. Even without the M star. Not worthy a Ritz. Just running around and making people uncomfortable with their hasty attitude and mediocre understanding what upscale dining is about. The place is loud and uncomfortable. Honestly, the first time for us to sit in a Michelin Star restaurant with people wearing flip flops, hoodies and baseball hats. Not sure if it is worth to come back.
Be the first to ReplySo good we went twice
How could this not be a 5? We went twice in three days. The food is beautiful and tasty. It’s not fluff food. I left both times totally satiated and left both times thinking I can’t wait to go back. The whole fish is the most amazing preparation I have ever had. The Octopus appetizer was outstanding as was the desserts. Perfection!
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner
This restaurant did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, we were pampered and treated very well by staff. We began with the curated cocktails followed by champagne. The dinner menu is spectacular. Whether you want wagyu beef or spectacular in-house made pasta. There was no wrong dish. Stephen waited on us and ended up creating the most unusual after dinner cocktail for me. That was a blend made for a goddess. Hints of absinth and cherry, whiskey and coffee. Served in a ceramic pot that made you think an alchemist had worked their magic creating this concoction. Everything was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyJust ok
When you have high hopes for the best meal at a award winning restaurant and you leave feeling deflated. The service team where impeccable. Thank you to them. The food was good. Not worth the high price tag. Very average. The space was loud. I would not have to go back.
Be the first to ReplyKnife & Spoon Delivers!
Foodies rejoice! The location formerly occupied by the venerable Norman's has been upgraded. The new restaurant, called Knife & Spoon, has earnered a Michelin star, and demands a visit when staying at the Ritz Grand Lakes. Ours wasa business dinner, and we were seated at the Chef's Table, which added a great deal of eye candy to our evening. We started with a creative and unusual amuse bouche- warm pomegranite and ginger with other spices. It was quite exotic. Our group ordered fish, steak, chicken and pasta, and all were happy. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The new dining room is not quiet, but nobody seemed bothered. Wine lovers can relax, as many attributes of the old list has been preserved. Selections are diverse and well thought out. Perhaps most interesting is the fact that the former GM of Norman's, Yusuf Yildiz has returned to helm Knife and Spoon. A polished verteran, Yusuf has a unique ability to ensure that every guest leaves happy. I cant wait to go back. For anyone concerned about the prices that can accompany a Michelin designation- dont be! Just go! Highly recommended!

We went here for a date night and were blown away. The ambiance is very intimate and welcoming. The service was impeccable. The attention to detail was really great. We had the scallops as an appetizer and they were the best scallops we ever had. Followed by an amazing dry aged steak! We will go back in the future!

I came for my birthday and it was lovely. Jessica and Pedro were the ones who took care of us and every detail of our dinner was spectacular. We had a little of everything steak, lobster and chicken and it was all Cooked to perfection. The service was phenomenal and if you need any help with beverage recommendations Jessica is very knowledgeable and helpful.
Be the first to ReplyA great way to start a visit to Orlando
There was no question in our minds that our first meal upon arriving in Orlando, Florida for a first-time, two-week visit that we would have dinner at one of only four Michelin-starred restaurants in town. Chef John Tesar's Knife & Spoon was an easy choice because it is located in the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes Hotel, our first overnight accommodation. Open from 5:30 to 11 daily, it is a signature steak and seafood restaurant with all the bells and whistles you would expect of a Michelin-starred eatery. My wife and I, exhausted from our long, two-stop drive from Chicago, were eager to relax and enjoy a first-class meal with all the trimmings. We started with shrimp cocktail, chilled King crab and Classic Caesar Salad with baby romaine lettuce, parmesan, white anchovies and croutons. For an entree, my wife chose Pappardelle Bolognese with pancetta, parmesan, beef, veal, lamb and tomato with creamed spinach and onion rings. I indulged in one of the house's specialties, a 10-ounce Creekstone filet mignon with sauteed mushrooms and potato puree. For dessert, we shared a lot of delicious chocolate--dark chocolate mousse with caramel cream, ganache and crunchy pearls and dulcey or creamy chocolate mousse with hazelnut crunch, caramel popcorn and bourbon caramel ice cream. Are all of the restaurants in Orlando this good? We're going to find out.
Be the first to ReplyDecent food however poor service
Went to celebrate my wife’s birthday yesterday. Food was good however where they missed the mark was on service. Really small ceviche portion size. The rack of lamb and Mac & cheese were spot on. The carrot cake missed the mark. The server seemed to be in a rush to get us out. Although I had specified it was a birthday dinner and the checkin desk even greeted my wife with a birthday wish, the waiter did not bother. There was no dessert with candle afterwards. Will have to re do the birthday celebration dinner somewhere else now.

Knife & Spoon, The Ritz-Carlton, Grande Lakes Orlando, 4040 Central Florida Pky, Orlando, Florida-2.5 -Stars One Michelin Star?! Knife & Spoon at The Ritz-Carlton, Grande Lakes Orlando, is a steak and seafood restaurant created by the highly decorated John Tesar, a friend of Anthony Bourdain, who allegedly once called him, “The single most talented cook I ever worked with.” Apparently, Tesar (aka, Jimmy Sears in Bordain’s memoir, Kitchen Confidential), got a significant rub from the relationship. This guy has even been a judge on Top Chef. Twice. How dare I say what I am about to say? I’ll tell you: I also once had the pleasure of eating the food of Celebrity Chef, Matt Varga, and his too was not up to par, in my humble opinion. What is going on? Perhaps neither guy is present, and they would both be embarrassed to have their name associated with this food if they knew. Or, maybe, just maybe, the making of a famous chef is political, and the glorification and elevation of a chef is at least partially the result of a kakistocracy, with the proverbial man on the street sharing blame for the overhype. Well, the emperor has no clothes and the Big Boy calls baloney. Shay was our maître d’/waiter. But not really. Knife & Spoon’s serving system is the Team Concept. I have encountered this before. “Team Concept” is code for “Thirty-Servers-And-NO-ONE-Gets-Service,” because every waitstaff thinks someone else is doing it. To obtain the coveted and elusive Michelin Star, the staff of a restaurant is supposed to provide outstanding service. Well, at least I can say the service was better than the food. Lest you think I came in gunning for a fight, I assure you I was not. I came in ready to be delighted. The décor was swank. I gleefully sipped a Jimmy Sears Cocktail as an assortment of fresh-baked bread with flaky-warm freshness was placed in front of me. At this point I sincerely believed I was about to consume the best meal of my life and report to you a 5-Star rating. In fact, I even texted my sister, “No way this place is less than 5-stars.” The disillusionment quickly followed with the delivery of my first anticipated item from the menu, the Chilled King Crab. Underwhelming is an understatement. Not sure where they were headed with this, but $36.00 for a partial “crab leg” one inch long is an embarrassment. See the photo. I kid you not. Good feeling gone. I had also ordered the Tuna & Foie, Caesar “salad,” 44 Farms Bone-In New York Strip (32 ounce dry-aged 60 Days for $125), the Cultivated Mushrooms, and Johnny Mac & Cheese. All these dishes were poorly executed. I mean POORLY. It is not even worth discussing them. So sad. In the hands of a competent chef, this menu could be amazing. The Big Boy says, “For $403.00 I could feed all the residents of the Kamchatka Peninsula, but even they wouldn’t like this food.”

An exquisite experience from service to food, wine, and drinks- attentive but not intrusive service- pre-dinner drinks, appetizers, steak entrees - all fantastic!

We were refused entry to the main dining room because my husband had on nice front pleaded khaki shorts. It was 75 degrees in Orlando all week and he didn’t pack pants. We did check the dress code before hand and you’ll notice it doesn’t mention pants. We were looking forward to dining with the full experience, so this was our first red flag. Definitely left a bad taste in our mouth, but since they “allowed” us to eat at the bar, we decided to still give it a try. That was our mistake. The service was not welcoming or helpful. We made a reservation for 9:30 and the restaurant closed at 11:00. We were told we had to have our ENTIRE order in within 20 minutes or we wouldn’t be able to eat. What? This reservation was double confirmed. Why would you allow a 9:30 reservation when the restaurant is closing? Second red flag. They loudly cleaned up around us the entire time. The “maitre d” half heartedly asked us “is there anything else?” a half dozen times, but what else would we have been able to order? We couldn’t even get chimichurri when our $200 steak came out because the kitchen was closed. We were never asked if we wanted another drink after we finished our first cocktails. We had planned this dinner for at least a month as an end to our yearly trip to Disney. It was more than disappointing; we were treated like outcasts. I think this restaurant is only for old-money white people. I don’t believe we would’ve been treated the same in Atlanta. We both have a very bad taste in our mouth from this experience. My husband was terribly upset as he hates to be treated like an outsider. This is not worth a Michelin star in any regard. When we were walking in, a guy told us “you should probably go to Burger King rather than eating here.” He was 100% right; at least we wouldn’t have been judged so harshly. Worst thing about nice dining is dealing with these sorts of prejudices. By the way, when we were rushed out, there were still multiple diners dining in the main dining room we were allowed in.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food…rude service
My sister and I stayed for a weekend at the Ritz in October. It was our third visit to the Ritz/JW Marriott complex. We had never tried Knife and Spoon, so we thought we’d give it a shot. We walked in from a day at the pool and asked the hostess if we could get a table that night. She said was seating available in about an hour and asked if anyone had any dietary restrictions. My sister told her she is a vegetarian, since she asked. We left and spent out hour wait getting a drink at one of the other hotel bars. We came back at our reservation time were shown to a table in the bar area. A very nice server named Tony came up right away to take our drink orders and said to my sister, “I know you are a vegetarian. Let me check with the kitchen to see what we’ve got tonight.” We thought that was really nice. A few minutes later, a different server came to the table to take our drink orders. Because Tony had said he was checking with the kitchen on vegetarian choices, my sister asked about it (because she’s honestly the least picky person…she always finds something to eat). This server got very agitated and said the only thing she could get was the pasta with veggies instead of meat and “the price will be the same as if you got meat!” (Like…did he think she was trying to save money by not getting meat?) Then he said, “Or you could get the mushrooms, that’s it!” He walked away, and we kind of chuckled and rolled our eyes…like what the heck was that?! We were hoping Tony would come back, but unfortunately it was this other guy. I ordered, then my sister asked for the wedge salad without bacon and the mac & cheese. Again he said, “The macaroni is cooked with bacon and we can’t make it without. YOU CAN GET MUSHROOMS.” Ok - so mushrooms it was! Now I’m just angry. The is the Ritz. We’ve had nothing but great service everywhere else. His attitude really ruined our experience. And he never brought our drinks. I had to wait until Tony stopped by the table and he hurriedly and apologetically brought them right away. I can’t remember what my drink was but it was grapefruit flavored and delicious. So - let’s get to the food. We both got wedge salads, and they were delicious! I don’t think I’ve ever had a better wedge salad. I got the scallops and they were melt in your mouth tender. My sisters mushrooms were actually delicious and a nice variety. The desserts were good but not great. I got the chocolate and can’t remember which one my sister got. I would go back because I think we had a fluke bad service experience. But his attitude really put a damper on our evening.
Be the first to ReplyHighest Quality, World Class Dining
Sublime. Sublime. Sublime. Words, certainly star ratings, fail when dishes are so well conceived, ingredients chosen with such care, preparation and cooking so faultless, and service so expert & hospitable that diners are transported. That was our experience tonight at Knife & Spoon. Our mains of grouper and crab creole were each unique in their complex flavor combinations, preceded by shared heirloom tomato salad with burrata and pesto. The wine list is extensive and well-curated. Courses were evenly spaced with time to savor without pressure, staff attentive without cloying. This is a world-class restaurant, as good as they come, and deserving of recognition for its uniformly high quality.

My wife and I dined here the first night of our vacation at the Ritz. We consider ourselves fortunate to have gotten a table. The atmosphere is elegant without being pretentious. The service from Matt and Matthew was top-notch, providing excellent recommendations to suit our palate, from appetizer to dessert wines and everything in between. The filet was perfection, and the bread service and desserts were as beautiful as art and equally delicious. The 30-year port was an absolute treat. We highly recommend the restaurant!

Fantastic! The restaurant is one of the best in Orlando, highly recommended. The food was fantastic, excellent salad, excellent steak, the mango desert was short of my expectations but everything is else was fantastic.
