Kissa Tanto Vancouver Reviews from The Last Year
We were originally unassuming of Kissa Tanto, only implored
We were originally unassuming of Kissa Tanto, only implored by our server at Pidgin (who mentioned he was table neighbors with Jay-Z and Beyoncé when he went) as well as Kyle from the Saint Laurent store to go to Kissa Tanto when mentioning we were considering canceling our reservation, as this was "unforgettable." The family was in so we went and went for the tasting menu. We had no idea this was a Michelin Star until after we had dined, but honestly I am not shocked. The atmosphere of the restaurant was certainly unforgettable. I will never forget entering into the small, quaint, Chinatown door and walking up into what felt like a secret hideaway of meticulously and beautifully crafted food. The black truffle pasta is something I still think about to this day. I'm sure Vancouver has better restaurants, they do, Pidgin is one of them (yet no star, on accreditation, soon InshAllah), but this was a remarkable experience that while you could miss out on, you won't forget it if you go.
Kissa Tanto, a small and unassuming restaurant in
Kissa Tanto, a small and unassuming restaurant in Chinatown, marks my second Michelin in Vancouver. This place came recommended by my friends so I had high expectations, which they delivered for the most part. Impeccable services and outstanding whiskey selections as well. Unfortunately it's been a while ago since I dined here and I lost my receipt. Will post prices for dishes when I can find them. I would say the best dishes were the house special (which changes daily/seasonally) so just check in with the team when you're there. Tajarin ($35) Octopus Salad ($27) Burrata Salad ($39) Margret Duck Breast ($65) Truffle Omelette (NA) Steak (NA)
Don't be fooled by the Michelin star.
..not worth the $200+ cost because after cocktails and wine, it's $400 per person. This is not a Japanese restaurant fusion because it is mainly Italian. I would say that it would be on to pass on Kissa Tanto. There are much, much better restaurants such as Blue Water Cafe for true culinary experiences.

WOW. Worth the journey. My friend and I have been wanting to go here for a while, but reservations can be pretty tricky to get, and the logistics for me to travel from Seattle to Vancouver further make this a much rarer opportunity that was worth the wait. I actually drove here from Seattle just for dinner and came back the same day, pouncing on this opportunity of our 8:30pm omakase reservation on a Friday. The omakase experience is a tasting menu format, but you do not know the specific dishes being served. This is the true definition of omakase, which extends beyond the typical sushi omakase. The experience highlights 3 starters, 1 pasta dish, 1 main dish, and 1 dessert, for a total of 6 courses priced at 155CAD, which is a solid price point. Additionally, we got some drinks. I personally got the My Private Tokyo drink as it is aesthetic and I looooove egg white based cocktails. Octopus salad - lightly fried octopus with parsley puree with neatly arranged lettuce and other vegetables. This was a refreshing first course and cadence is good thereafter, progressing into richer starters. Hokkaido scallops with fried shiso leaf - fairly fresh scallop with a creamy, slightly tangy sauce. The shiso leaf is its own star but combines adequately with the scallops. This is good but my least favorite dish. Chef's omelette - 3 eggs scrambled and topped with winter black truffle and truffle and cheese sauce. This was very rich and flavorful, and they do not skimp on the truffle. This probably constituted a good fraction of the omakase pricing, but I would not hesitate to try this again. Rotolo - pasta dish with beef stuffed inside. The pasta is rolled nicely into a circle, kind of like a flower, so you are encouraged to use a knife to cut small pieces to savor. The pasta is cooked to a nice al dente Coppa - pork shoulder. This is the juiciest, most tender piece of pork that I have ever eaten! It is glazed in a sukiyaki glaze and served with tomato and saffron sauce. There is cauliflower in green garlic emulsion served on the side. At this point, we were fairly full so we opted to not finish the entire vegetable dish to save room for the dessert. Yuzu cream with olive oil, nectarine and pistachios - this was the final course, the dessert. I love the olive oil balancing with the prominent yuzu flavor from the cream. The smooth texture of the cream contrasts with the nectarine, pistachio crumble to tie in a nice finish to the meal. Service is excellent as water refills were consistent and the waitress was willing to patiently take some pictures for us. She was also pretty friendly and had a good conversation at some points during the meal. I will definitely come back to try some of their a la carte options, since the omakase experience highlights some of the popular dishes but also feature fancier items not demonstrated in the regular menu, and there are a few a la carte dishes I'd love to try next time.
Interesting and provoking cuisine with very good and
Interesting and provoking cuisine with very good and attentive staff. The room is small but intimate. Well put without being over the top. Food is the stand out without a doubt. My favorite was the udon.
I am not sure why this restaurant has less that 5 stars.
. Absolutely generous I have been here over a dozen of times and besides my bread being slightly overtoasted in Tonno Montecato have never gotten disappointed. The service is great, they all look very aware, presentable and clean. The manager is always present. Food is served in a timely manner and all the dishes are properly explained. You can taste the love being put in ALL the food from appetizers to desserts. Highly Recommend!
Best meal I've ever had, hands down.
Still dreaming about the beef cheek pasta purses and it's been almost a year. Hoping we're going back for my birthday. The service was white glove but still felt casual. If you've ever been to Papas Bros in Dallas, that was the level of service. It was busy to be sure yet intimate. Again, I can't wait to go back!
Kissa Tanto has a lot of positive reviews and
Kissa Tanto has a lot of positive reviews and recommendations from Vancouver locals so we opt out for a try. We ordered octopus salad, egg omelette (hidden menu), and seafood Udon. This place is a mix of Japanese and Western (fusion restaurant), the food is not traditional Japanese or Western. The $68 egg omelette with black truffle is the highlight of the night. No doubt that the price is expensive but worth a try. Octopus salad and Udon are not really stand out, pretty much something you can get everywhere in Vancouver easily. The environment is similar to a wine bar setting, which is great for hangout or dating. One drawback that some reviews had been mention is a bit pressure to sell the special of the night, order more food and dessert. Highly recommended for the egg omelette!!
A good friend got us a reservation at this lovely and
A good friend got us a reservation at this lovely and wonderful Michelin-star restaurant, and we enjoyed everything so much. We got a table by the window, and ordered some pretty non-alcoholic drinks. The wait staff was friendly, prompt and well-informed. The ambience was cozy and sophisticated. My friend and I opted for the omakase menu (chef's choice), and they asked about allergens, preferences, and price ranges. Once we decided, we got a parade of delicious and innovative dishes, one after another, that included everything from incredible omelette to scallops and house-made pasta. We thoroughly enjoyed every single dish and left satisfied, promising to return.
UGH Kissa Tanto is SO good.
There are just so many elements of cooking and taste that were so memorable to me that I actively fantasize about. Me and my partner were seated as walk-ins but be sure to get there early because there are other people vying for seats as well and you want to beat out your competition (or you can just get a reservation, whatever). The location itself is nestled in Chinatown and you have to walk up a flight of stairs (I don't think I saw an elevator so not sure about accessibility) to a speakeasy-like, art deco atmosphere. The service was fantastic and personable and you can tell that they are all really passionate about food. I had gotten the Octopus Salad, Tajarin, Charcoal Udon, and then Yuzu cream for dessert. The Octopus Salad was super memorable because of the parsley vinagerette in the middle where you dip your radishes and radicchio in and that was the true star of the dish. Because the dish centers around octopus, you would think that it would be more memorable but to me, the octopus was more of an afterthought. It was light fried resulting in a kind of weird gummy texture but it was such an experiential and engaging way of eating the dish that I can overlook. I really did enjoy this dish. The Tajarin is one of the most memorable pastas that I have eaten with everything being made from scratch and everything was so fresh and good. If you get anything here, get this because every bite was brimming with umami fusion and despite my partner not wanting to order this because he doesn't like mushrooms, it ended up being his favorite dish. The Charcoal Udon was also very good but a bit too salty for me. The seafood was really well cooked but the sweetness of the crab was masked by the salty Calabrian chili sauce. The homemade udon noodles were chewy, bouncy... I truly cannot say enough good things about the noodle dishes here. Finally, the Yuzu cream was the perfect dessert. Sweet, tart, balanced, nutty, crunchy. The attention to detail with the little drops of olive oil made my dessert feel like art and the olive oil made the yuzu cream pop out alot more. It hit every mark on the target for me as it was interesting taste wise as well as texture wise. While I usually want to go back to restaurants to try other menu items, I want to get my same exact order again next time because everything was THAT good.
Kissa Tanto was highly raved about by a friend so when I
Kissa Tanto was highly raved about by a friend so when I was coming to town I had to make sure this was the first spot I made a reservation for. It's a little unassuming trying to find the place as you have to walk upstairs and enter this cute space that reminds me of a greenhouse with a classic bar in the middle of the space. Had a fantastic time for our tasting menu! I liked that they tailor the menu based on the price range per person so they adjust some of the ingredients to fit within your budget. We came as a group but had a friend come in solo and honestly it might be better to go solo or with two people because I think you get to enjoy the larger portions where you need to split them a little more the larger your group is. We ended up going under $200/pp | WHAT WE GOT | - Pickled app with fried olives with meat stuffing - Uni custard - still think about this - Cured fish - Wagyu - Truffle omelette - one of my favorites - Pasta (ugh can't remember exactly the ingredients but enjoyed this one a lot) - Squid ink pasta - Whole fried fish - Pork loin - Chinese broccoli - Canoli type of dessert with matcha and hazelnut filling Overall, each dish was unique and had a nice twist to some classic options. The ingredients were fresh and all flavors melded well with each other. There were definitely some clear winners of the night but I don't think there was anything we didn't like. Our server was great and even gave some recs for some speakeasies nearby. Thanks!
My all time fav restaurant in Vancouver!! Of all time
My all time fav restaurant in Vancouver!! Of all time ! The cocktails..10/10 The food is unforgettable. The service is Michelin. Try: the snake river steak tartare, the tajarin, the stuffed olives. The udon with snow crab and prawns. I dream about their pastas. You will too!
Wow oh WOW! Ate here for an early Valentine's Day dinner
Wow oh WOW! Ate here for an early Valentine's Day dinner and boy were we amazed. First of all, service was amazing, our server was very informative, explained all the dishes for us and gave us recommendations. The food was insanely delicious, flavours that I haven't tasted before. The charcoal noodles and pork were my favorite. The restaurant opens late and is busy (for good reason). The decor is dim and provides a nice intimate setting. I will be back here for sure to try other items on the menu!
The service was exceptional, the prices were good as well.
The place is a little small but pretty comfy. It had a dark room lighting so not ideal for pics haha the food was great! The pasta options were very good, and the fish was great as well. Overall I'd come back here again!
Experience ruined by surly server Chloe
Food was very good. However, the dining experience was ruined by our surly and curt server Chloe who began by rather loudly carding my son when he ordered a cocktail and demanded, not one, but two pieces of ID from him to cross reference. Never had a request for TWO pieces of ID before (and also in such an indiscrete and militant way) in a nice restaurant, especially as my son is mature looking. We ordered a lot of food and two bottles of wine (Chloe tried at first to recommend the wines instead of directing the sommelier to us). Chloe was very, very slow in bringing house made hot sauce to the table to enjoy with our several dishes of pasta and we had to ask a couple of times. Eventually we had to eat the pasta without as it came too late; very very slow to bring sugar for espresso so that by the time she brought it, espresso was stone cold, she was too busy chatting it up with other staff and regulars. My husband was still polite and gave an 18% tip (although my son and I had told him that she should get much less). We spent over $1500 there and will never return because of her.
The food was just "ok" for the prices charged.
The only dish that was relatively tasty was the carne cruda. Everything else we ordered (Tonno Mantecato, charcoal udon, magnet duck breast, lemon dessert (Costco pound cake was more moist)) was just okay. The location of the restaurant was not in the best part of town (especially at night when all the shops were closed).
Everything I ate was mediocre.
The Tobiko toast was interesting but overall the food wasn't great. Service and ambiance was fantastic.
Five stars all around!!! Incredible service, food and
Five stars all around!!! Incredible service, food and ambience. We got resos at the bar which was fun because we got to watch all the cocktails being made in front of us. Every bartender and server was very attentive and the vibe was really relaxed and not at all pretentious. We ordered the $155/head chefs tasting menu and wow was it so worth it! My husband is pescatarian and they made an absolutely delicious seven course menu for us. Every dish was outstanding, but one of my faves was the king crab omelette (so silky!!!) and the charcoal udon (omg!! So good). The presentation was also stunning and the ingredients used were so fresh. Oh also the starter oysters were prob the best oysters I've ever had!! The drinks were also a huge hit! We got two cocktails each to start then moved to wine. Everything was so perfect! The whole restaurant itself kind of feels like a joint you'd find tucked away in NYC. Love love love! Will be back!
Lost Charm and Inflexibility
I had been a regular at Kissa Tanto for years, drawn by its welcoming staff and inviting atmosphere. However, recent changes post-pandemic, particularly in management, have unfortunately diminished its former appeal. During my latest visit, I needed a slight alteration to my meal due to an allergy, specifically requesting that an ingredient be served on the side. The current GM, Justin Isidro, stated that such adjustments would not be entertained in the future as they diverge from the chef's vision for the dish. This rigid stance was a surprise, given that similar requests were previously met with understanding and adaptability. The new management style, now more akin to that of a mainstream chain like Cactus Club, lacks the unique charm that Kissa Tanto once had. Sadly, I don't see myself returning.
DH and I have spent years pondering Kissa Tanto (Key-Sa not
DH and I have spent years pondering Kissa Tanto (Key-Sa not Kiss-A, for the record) and for whatever reason the journey was always thwarted. This year we really wanted to branch out from our usual favorite which has never ever failed us everrrrrrr (we are Annalena hipsters... loved it before it was cool to!). When you're spending ~$550 on food and drink, you tend to compare it with other $550 dollar meals you're having and in Vancouver, I have experienced that a handful of times with varying degrees of success. The one that never fails is mentioned above. So... using that as the bar for a perfect meal, I offer you the following review. To enter KT, you climb up a flight of tiled stairs (don't bring granny here, I didn't see an elevator though perhaps there is one?) and as we were in the first seating of the night, we were in queue to get seated. It was handled efficiently. The lowered lights, plush benches, and generally cozy feel is warm and welcoming. The bar is beautiful, truly and we were very quickly greeted by a server. For so few tables, I will say that it's not the quietest spot - a few times we had a hard time hearing the food descriptions. That said, ambiance, 5 star. Our server was lovely and offered recommendations. We opted for omakase which is not on the website menu and I'm sure pricing varies. On our night, it was 155/person, served family style. We had two cocktails, some sake for the meal, and closed it off with a digestif. The expedited the timeline for us because we had a little one at home but I thought that was actually the correct pacing for the meal. I had a Japanese whiskey sour with yuzu, the husband had something that resembled a gimlet. Both cocktails were perfectly prepared. Mine had been shaken with the eggwhite to velvet and this was probably one of the best cocktails I've had outside of home in a long time. First Course: Fried olives with Yuzu - we both enjoyed them very much and I believe even people who aren't generally olive fans would enjoy. Second Course: Octopus Salad - the octopus was perfection, though I felt like there wasn't enough octopus compared to the piles of daikon. Still, a lovely salad, sauce was unreal. Third Course: Fish belly in a.. hmmm. I can't actually remember the butter sauce detail but the fish was cooked perfectly. I would argue, however, this was a portion for one. Fourth Course, the mother effing showstopper: An omelette bathing in a pecorino sauce, topped with a generous helping of shaved alba truffle. Sex on a plate. This dish made my eyes well up with joy and will live in my top 10 things I have ever eaten ever. The omelette was unbelievable. I actually thought it might have been sousvided to get what can only be described as fluffy and dense simultaneously. Truly beautiful. Fifth Course: Duck agnolotti in a squash butter sauce. Richly flavoured, great texture. Lovely dish. Perhaps a little small for two people (there were 13 on the plate) Sixth Course: Duck Maget... was not my favourite. Somehow the duck was tough and I felt like it actually needed the mushrooms and sauce. I love duck, but this felt like it needed a couple components to shine - a starch, perhaps. Seventh Course: Raspberry Olive Oil Cake, Tea Ice Cream / Gelato... no complaints here. But Tara! Why only three stars? We left hungry. For 550 bucks, tip in, we should not leave hungry. We actually questioned whether only one meal was ordered. And while delicious, the positive recommendation did not match the meal. I feel like it's one of the rare times that it has happened in a restaurant of this quality and for that, I can't give it the full five.

This review is for reservation only! Made a reservation to celebrate the upcoming birthday over OpenTable but got canceled for no reasons nor explanation nor call beforehand. I tried to call back immediately but didn't get through. First time to experience this, especially from a Michelins Recognized restaurant. Shockingl Unbelievable!
Hey Kissa Tanto, cancelling an OpenTable confirmed birthday
Hey Kissa Tanto, cancelling an OpenTable confirmed birthday dinner reservation was unprofessional and disappointing.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
