Randomly popped in for dinner and it was excellent
My husband and I came to Washington DC on business for one night. The weather was nasty: cold rain drizzled. We were looking for a restaurant for dinner and saw this restaurant: Karma modem Indian. He immediately attracted us with a stylish design but with elements of Indian culture. Our lunch delighted both the eyes with its presentation and the palate with its taste. We ordered baked vegetables and naan with wild mushrooms and truffle oil for the appitazer. The food was freshly prepared, hot and very tasty. Then our wonderful waiters brought The palate cleanser. And after a short rest, we started on the main menu: my husband had LAMB ROGANJOSH, I had SAFFRON DUCK with wonderful saffron gravy. The taste and presentation of the food is beyond praise. Service was very attentive but not intrusive. Then the manager came up to us to ask if we were satisfied. Of course, we answered, everything is exellent, and I promised to write a great review. Which I do with pleasure.

A wonderful meal from start to finish. This is Indian food creatively re- imagined -- a feast for the eyes and the palate. You can see that a great deal of thought has gone into all aspects of dining at the restaurant. The "Simply Nan" (plain nan) was worth the visit. Served warm, it was soft, chewy and nicely blistered. While waiting for the appetizers, the chef sent out a small portion of spicy, lentil soup. The Balchao Shrimp Cornets are a visual delight -- miniature cone-shaped pastries filled with a well-spiced shrimp mixture -- served upright, 3 in a row, each in its own sweet potato plinth. After the appetizer course, the chef sent out out a small disc of tart sorbet as a palate cleanser. The Paneer Pandra was our favorite entree. Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive.
Be the first to ReplyDoes Michelin star equate to bad customer service?
The restaurant offers poor customer service. We were offered a wet table and chairs post sanitizing. When we pointed out that we couldn’t possibly sit on wet chairs, the manager, Emily handed us wipes and paper towel to dry the surfaces. Now, how many of you have had to clean up your dining space before a meal in a Michelin starred restaurant?? We complied but asked to speak with the owner. Sachin, the owner was ridiculous and tried to tell me that we should be grateful that the surfaces were sanitized. At that point, we chose to leave this over-hyped establishment. This restaurant’s management believes in the premise that insults are appetizing.

Our 1st night in DC. We happened by this as we were making our way back to the hotel from the mall area in DC. They had little of what we had grown used to at home with all the traditional Indian places. They had no Indian beer, they had little of the traditional dishes we were used to BUT what they had was delicious, light and filling. Hard to explain. Give it a try. Moderately priced.

This place is amazing. The service was fantastic, and the food and drinks were delicious. I had the paneer lajawab dish and the husband had the lamb rogandosh. So tasty. The herb and cheese naan was fantastic too. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good meal with a great atmosphere.

So the space is solid, comfortable vibe. All about alcohol and Indian food. I would love to talk about the yummy food. But do not ignore the 20 percent service fee that is on the detailed invoice. And then they put the tip calculator on the final bill as if there is no service fee. Highly deceptive and should be disclosed. It is not. Shame on them. Bye.

Interesting and creative Indian food. Branzino, potatoes, zucchini dish all very good. Cauliflower appetizer and garlic naan and truffle mushroom naan were pretty bland. Cardamom ice cream was great. Server was very knowledgeable and helpful. We were a party of 3 - beware a service charge of 20% is built-in. When you sign the credit card slip, there is room for a tip and no explanation that a tip was added.
Be the first to ReplyNice Atmosphere/Ambiance, Pretty standard Indian food
Was here with the fam during a weekend visit to DC. The pictures looked spectacular and I could get a reservation within an hour of when I was visiting so picked this spot. The look and feel of the place did not disappoint, along with the appearance/presentation of the items we ordered.
However as an Indian, this place does not really serve classic Indian food. Every single dish is revamped with some sort of western twist with non traditional ingredients. The curries are quite average and when we asked for the dishes to be made a bit spicy, they gave us raw green chilis and hot sauce on the side lol.
The portion sizes as explained by menu are quite off. For example the paneer tikka which was in the shareables section was literally 3 cubes and much smaller than the Tandoori cauliflower which was small bites. And the curries on the sides section in the bottom are definitely much larger portion than the actual main course curries.
Overall I had a pretty enjoyable time there but if you are looking for classic Indian food this is definitely not the place to experience that.
Excellent food with interesting
Excellent food with interesting menu.
Although the service was good, surprising to see a automatic tip service charge for a party of 4.
Best Indian food we ever had...
Best Indian food we ever had... great ambiance and anniversary recognition... great cocktails
Timeline service
Only negative was upon check presentation with solicitation for tips after charging an automatic 20% service charge... spoiled the amazing experience. Also to go Kulfi small dish much smaller than portion served at the restaurant. No spoon to go.
Michelin star reachable but this needs to be addressed...
Amazing Flavor and Great service!
I was recently there with friend that came in from out of town. Made reservation on open door without a problem. My friends wanted to try Indian and based on the review, I settled on Karma Modern Indian. Honestly didn't know what to expect and neither did my friends who cook Indian daily.
Walking in, they took our temperature to make sure we didn't have a fever and tables were spaced apart. Guests wore masks, felt completely safe!
Simple menu, not overwhelming which is nice. Food was served hot, perfectly cooked and the most amazing flavor. We all loved the food! I was concerned it would overwhelm me with heat, but it didn't. It we the perfect spicy level. Had the lamb chop for appetizer, tamarind potato sphere, seekh kabob (spicy, but nice), and the best was lamb roganhosh (perfect spice) and the lamb we just cooked to perfection!
I've definitely found my favorite Indian cuisine restaurant! You will not be disappointed!
Modern Indian with classic taste.
We found this place by accident. But wow, what an accident. First thing we noticed was the atmosphere is modern, elegant and not stuffy. A number of people of Indian decent were present and having lovely times. Then the owner introduced himself and he’s a very distinguished man of Indian decent. Kitchen full of Indians. The wine and drinks selection was great. Then we ordered the food. Wow! We were blown away by the options, the presentation and the taste. Best Indian food in the city. Best in the area of Maryland, DC and Virginia. The lobster Masala was fantastic. The chili shrimp for appetizer was heavenly. The palak paneer was just spicy enough but not so spicy as to obscure all the flavors. Ambiance and atmosphere were impeccable. It appears their menu changes quarterly. We will be back!
Staff was fantastic. But remember 2020. They are working with a short staff and still maintaining quality. The atmosphere and music is so nice just hangout and enjoy. Highly recommended.
Superb!!
This property is as tasty as it is lovely. High ceilings with lots of light and sparkle with outdoor seating as well. Flavors were traditional but kicked up two notches along with elegant presentation. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Highly recommend. We just happened on this place and it was a treat!
