Delicious dinner!!
The food is delicious, truly some of the best Indian food I have ever had!!! Totally recommended!!! The cocktails are very good and the dessert popsicles are excellent to the palate.
Be the first to ReplyRude Hostess at Front Desk
We went for dinner on Feb 29th 2024. The food was great and the staff who waited on our table and served us were very polite and courteous. But we were in for a rude shock with the behaviour of the lady at the front desk . She made us feel extremely unwelcome and didn’t extend even the basic courtesies both during our entry and exit. She didn’t smile or welcome us during entry and neither was there a goodbye when we left. These are basic manners for people who are hosts and handling front desks especially when she was the only one handling the front desk for the restaurant that night. She had allotted a table close to the kitchen and since there were many other vacant tables at better spots , we requested for a change which she did not pay heed to. But thankfully one of the other waiters accommodated us in a better spot. She outrightly refused to serve saunf to us when we asked on our way out . ( The staff inside had mentioned to us that we could take saunf from the front desk on our way out). She kept rolling her eyes and making faces while taking and returning our jackets. I can’t believe that I came to a restaurant known as a Michelin starred restaurant where the hostess was cold and borderline rude with questionable communication skills . Her behaviour was appalling to say the least. I left feeling hurt and discriminated and left with a sour feeling on what should have been a relaxing and happy dinner enjoying Indian cuisine in New York City . Lesser known restaurants have better hosts than the one we encountered in junoon that evening.
Be the first to ReplyMaking my anti-TripAdvisor exception for Junoon
Let's get this out of the way: I don’t post on TripAdvisor anymore because they’ve turned this into a pushy booking platform and ruined my trip portfolios with these changes. But got Junoon, I’m here to make an exception. This is a five star restaurant. The rating is skewed by people who can't or don't want to read. This is NOT an a la carte restaurant. It's very clear on the website and menu that you choose from either a three ($98) or six course meal ($140). You can order EXTRA in addition to your chosen courses, but it's not a pick and choose kind of place. There are also people who can't read the rule, also clearly posted, that children under 10 are not allowed in the dining room. We all came out to have an EXPERIENCE, not listen to your kid cry about wanting chicken fingers. Onto why this restaurant is five stars. It's a beautiful, elegant space. Cadet blue and gold colors, dark wooden tables. Another thing I really appreciate about this dining room is that the tables aren't shoved close together as in many New York restaurants. There is actual space to get in and out of your seat. Service is immaculate. My server, Rahul, was attentive and helpful with menu recommendations. And while Rahul was my primary server, there were several support staff who brought food or refilled water throughout the night. My sparkling water was never less than a third full. The staff bringing the food presented each dish with fanfare, explaining the ingredients, flavors, and garnishes. I chose the three course meal. At Rahul's recommendation, I had the smoked masala ribs, which came under a bell filled with smoke (I told you food was served with fanfare). The ribs, covered in a vindaloo spice rub, accompanied by refreshing chaat masala apple, were spicy, flavorful and tender, coming off the bone easily. My main dish was the murgh lababdar, a tender tandoor grilled chicken served in tomato sauce with fenugreek. Rice and sauces were served as well. This dish would be a crowd pleaser for those not as adventurous with Indian food. While I enjoyed this dish, there is a lot to explore--for next time I have my eye on the lasooni palak (fern, kale, mustard greens, rainbow carrots, garlic, and more) or the asparagus and mushroom ghost chili korma (asparagus, royal trumpet mushroom, saffron cashew ghost chili sauce). The mains section is full of inventive ingredients--lotus root, jackfruit mash, heart of palm. There are also fish, duck, goat, lamb, and lobster selections. The menu also comes with your choice of lentils/breads/accompaniments. I chose the spiced naan, made with gruyere cheese and za'atar. Before desert, the staff brought me a small, white tablet and poured hot water on it. It grew into a white cylinder. I was confused, then delighted, when I realized it was a refreshing hot towel to wipe my hands and face. For desert I had the kulfi pops, small, decorative ice cream pops with flavors of mango, ube-malai, rose petal, and saffron-cardamom. The saffron-cardamom was my favorite! And I also got a special surprise! They just recently opened up for Monday dinner service again. Since I was the first customer in the restaurant on their first Monday service, I got an extra desert. I think this was the ma's rice pudding that's also on the menu. It was a thick, rich puffed rice pudding with candied almonds and carmelized banana. It was not only tasty, but an extra show of appreciation that meant a lot to me. I also tried a couple of their cocktails: the mogra madness (jasmine infused smoke lab vodka, cointreau, pavan, lemon, mandarin and orange blossom ice) and the summer in Shimla (rum bled, cointreau, cardamom, lime, and orgeat syrup). Both were light and refreshing, however, mid-course I abandoned the cocktail menu! Someone came by my table--not sure if he was the general manager or dedicated sommelier or both (or Hemant?)--with a wine recommendation that paired well with Indian food. He gave me a sample, and it was very fragrant, clean, crisp. So after I finished my cocktail, I went with wine. I have been a wine drinker for years, but have fallen toward cocktails over the past couple of years. This made me fall in love with wine again. The romance of it, appreciating each individual aroma, flavor. Thank you for that! People complain about the price and portions. I think this is an American issue (I am American). I think the portions are perfect. Smaller, but when combined into a three course meal with drinks, just right. You're satisfied, but not overly full. And this isn't the type of food you take home and shove in the fridge to microwave later. Some tips: make a reservation. If you reserve on Resy, cancellations or change to party size less than 24 hours ahead brings a charge of 45 dollars. Also, early weekdays beat the crowds: I went at 5:30 on Monday when they first opened, and I was the first one there and the place wasn't crowded when I left. This restaurant, this experience, these people--I appreciate the evening they provided to me so much that I almost take offense to any review less than five stars. Thanks to everyone at Junoon.
Be the first to ReplyAnother great night at Junoon
What a great Indian restaurant, the staff are outstanding, the ambiance is good and the food incredibly tasty. Yung is a terrific hostess and it is her birthday in February, so all together now, Happy Birthday to you, .....etc..
Be the first to ReplyPleasant dining experience.
Junoon has amazing food great atmosphere. We do tend to stay away from dessert but ended up with extra colories because it was part of 3 course meal.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful, can’t wait to come back!
Excellent service and food! Great attention to detail. Nice space, lighting, very comfortable. Look forward to coming back to try the great variety from menu!
Be the first to ReplyBest Upscale Indian
I waited too long to go to this upscale Indian restaurant. Everything was top notch; food was great as was service, all this in a very handsome space. Highly recommend. Get the kulfi pops for dessert.
Be the first to ReplyCreative excellence
Very creative dishes. Specially with the fried okra and chat appetizer. The burra kebab was delicious, tender and had perfect flavor. The Konkani shrimp had creative mango balls in it, which complimented the flavor of the curry. Finally the assorted kulfi lollipops was a perfect finale to the grand culinary experience.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth going to this restaurant. better spend your money somewhere else for a pleasant experience
Terrible experience, really bad service, got tricked in taking a set menu, while we did ask to eat a la carte. We didn't want to have a dessert and asked for two extra chicken dishes (we were with 4 people) which was refused. We had two bottles of wine and wanted to take the left over wine but that was refused as well. On top of all it is really expensive

Wonderfully presented tasting menu with delicious wine pairings made for a spectacular birthday celebration. Each course had a combination of flavors, both subtle and distinctive, that were an adventure to enjoy. The scallops were a highlight.

I rarely repeat Indian restaurant, only because we cook Indian food at home. But two restaurants in NYC I would go again and one of them is Junoon. Restaurant has changed the dinner format , first it was a la carte, after pandemic , its course menu. We went to celebrate our anniversary , and the restaurant was informed . we chose to go there because we like Junoon's impeccable service and absolutely delicious food. We did enjoy our evening and I would highly recommend , to try almost every thing but since you can't do that, Jaljeera, masala ribs, eggplant chat , haleem must have. Nadru for veg options , lal maas, butter chicken! and for dessert kulfi chocolate mousse, sorbet.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional in all aspects.
Atmosphere was perfect and home’y, portions are the exact right amount and the servers at the restaurants honestly curated the perfect experience.
Be the first to ReplyElevated Indian flavors, rooted in rich cultural traditions
Overall great experience from reservations to our way out. Cocktails and food - both elevated Indian cultural traditions with a modern touch and exquisite decor and presentations. Accented by courteous and knowledgeable staff.

Visited this restaurant right after a trip to India and was very impressed with the quality, presentation and service. All the dishes, including dessert, were first-rate. Looking forward to eating here again!

Be the first to ReplyNot worth the visit
Starter was sent back as it was dry. Replaced with a better made dish. Mains came out and sauce was hot but meat was cold. We left during our main as it was just not worth it. The price doesn't match the food. Really expensive for a below par dinner. Knowing what I know now I wish I never went. Very disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyCould have been better
beautiful restaurant with great staff. Good selection of drinks. Craving for some good spicy dinner. Bit disappointed with the food. The laas maal and the mavani fish both faired below expectations. I expect my food to be piping hot with the right kick of spices. Garlic naan was good. Our expectations were high. Will return to try something different.
Be the first to ReplyGreat high end Indian!
Excellent Indian food. The table can do either a three or six course meal. While some dishes are more easily shareable, it is not a traditional family style Indian meal. The three course meal is an excellent value.
Be the first to ReplyInteresting and unusual everything.
The appetizers were the most interesting. We enjoyed the Eggplant Chat as well as the Pea Chat. The meat eaters were happy with the chicken appetizer (Ghost) as well as the goat main entree. So many vegetable options each delicately and perfectly seasoned.
Be the first to ReplyFood is so delicious
Great food and service! We went with a group of friends and allowed the waiter to choose for us. It was delicious and so flavorful. The staff are so professional and welcoming. They took great care of us. Can’t wait to go again.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, great service and a very pleasant ambience - a must go for great Indian food!
We ordered chicken tikka and matar chaat for starters and Fish Lalvani, chicken biryani, chicken lababdar and garlic and cheese naans for main course and everything was authentic and delectable! We totally enjoyed the meal and the service was also top quality! The cocktails were also great.
Be the first to ReplyIndian cuisine worthy of a return visit
The cuisine is Indian-fusion and there were many Indian families there celebrating Mother’s Day. I’m typically not a fan of Indian cuisine, but this experience changed my mind! We loved the creativity of the dishes - beautiful and flavorful! We look forward to returning!
Be the first to ReplyBest Indian food
Probably the best Indian food I ever tried. Innovative, without overwhelming spices, appropriately portioned, nice presentation. Excellent wine selection and knowledgeable sommelier. Rice pudding is out of this world. Wonderful service. To my delight, great vegetarian menu options. This restaurant is not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplyOverall good experience
Service is good Ghost chicken is good As meat is perfectly done Hakeem is good Ribs are great Main course - lobster moily nice . Biryani is made well . Malvani fish is good. Lamb chops needs work - something not right with the meat , spice Spinach bread, naan and Roti was great Desserts were good - suggest you work a bit more on making them better Ambience for dinner is average - think about making it a hit more interesting Overall the experience was nice
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner !
Amazing food, great service and ambience The spice level and the sauces to complement it was perfect ! The only thing I found not as impressive was the dessert, though my friend thought it was great - not too sweet and a great medley
