Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
First come First Served
Very strange experience. Called for reservation and they did not have any tables. Told us we could eat in the bar, “first come first served.” So we came to the bar and went to the host stand were told “first come first served.” There were several couples waiting ahead of us so we asked to be put on the list. We were told “first come first served”. No wait list. So apparently you get there and fight for the table with the other people that are waiting. Never have we had to wait for a table without being put on a list. The host was extremely rude, seems the only words they know is “first come first served.” Can’t comment on anything other than this but based on the rudeness would not bother coming back.
Good for more than Stone Crab!
I had not been here in almost 10 years and boy it still did not disappoint. I have never been to a seafood restaurant for fried chicken but I went with friends who swore by Joe’s fried chicken. LOL So I figured, hey why not! Our Server Jodette was amazing! She knew her stuff, had excellent recommendations. We had the sea bass, branzino and brussel sprouts in addition to the famous friend chicken and the rosé and sauvignon by the glass were delightful. Jodette had a good sense of humor and a lot of patience with our group and her recommendations did not disappoint. I think this is a good spot for business dinners, couples and friends. Highly recommend.
Yummy crab!
Best king crab I’ve had in awhile. Top notch service as well. The hash browns were the best I’ve had in years. Can’t wait to go back .
About As Perfect A Restaurant As You Will Find
I hate reviews where people try to rate something as a 10/5 or some other impossible rating, but Joe's tests that premise. If I were to try to train someone to run or even work in an excellent restaurant, I would probably take them here. Joe's in Chicago is a nearly perfect restaurant. The setting is classy, but somehow still inviting. The service is impeccable, with male and female servers in jackets and bow ties and the ideal mix of the friendly and formal. The restaurant is fairly large and expensive, but was somehow packed on a Sunday evening. Joe's signature special is crab claws with mustard sauce, which is indeed delicious, but everything on the menu is great. We went largely with seafood options and all were wonderful. Many rave about the steak, but we did not try it on this visit. We had a range of specials and standard menu items, and all were perfectly prepared. I've mentioned the service, but it is a step above almost any you have ever seen. The wait staff are almost advocates to get you the best meal of your life. They make great recommendations and then make them happen. They are endlessly attentive. They make them like you. They know the menu cold. I said above that this restaurant is nearly perfect, and the one drawback, if you want to call it that, is cost. I would happily, and hope to, incur it again for an experience of this quality. Joe's is indeed expensive - a splurge location - but one well worth it. Come here.
Great experience
Fantastic food! I ordered the seafood platter and my husband the wygu steak. Both were phenomenal along withe the corn and fried asparagus. Denise was a fantastic waitress. The only drawback (and it won’t stop me from coming back) the tables were pretty close together.
It was a real treat.
Made reservations in advance and glad that we did. Service and food were both excellent. It was very crowded and we were there on a Thursday night. Don't try to go without a reservation.
Joe's Restaurant was excellent.
My Chef and I attended the National Food Show conference. My Dover sole was over the top, the scallops were excellent and plentiful. Our wait staff was by far the best I've experienced in years. Jodette was funny, knowledgeable and not to pushy. Highly recommend a dinner reservation here.
We couldnt have asked for a better meal or experience.
This place was packed but it went off so seemless without a hitch. First the drinks and the bread basket. The cinnamon raisin bread crisps were amazing and I def could eat them all day. For apps we had the stone crab claws, the shrimp cocktail, and the tomato side so good and full of cheese!! The crab was served with the mustard sauce and cocktail and my boyfriend loved it!! Shrimp were huge!! For dinner I had the fried chicken omg so amazing like crispy and so flavorful breaded two times in cracker meal. He had the bone in halibut special with lemon and lemon butter. Huge and delish. We also ordered the street corn side it was special and omg. So fresh. I e had a half slice of Boston creme pie and it was huge. We couldn't have had a better meal. $400 is a bit pricy but we would go again in a heartbeat!! Love all and the server Steve was amazing.
Steak was excellent! Fish was perfectly seasoned.
Ambiance was great and service was phenomenal
So me and my co worker came in here with.
O expectations, the food was amazing, the service that the restaurant and waiter provided was excellent, his name is Timothy K. He's super helpful, professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu to a T. He made us feel at home and so did the hostess he was super friendly and nice to us that we smiled the whole entire time. The environment in the restaurant is quiet, peaceful and inside this restaurant is beautiful. I wish we could have came in better clothing but they made us feel so good that we didn't care later on. The salad was okay but it wasn't my favorite thing that I ever ordered, the shrimp on my salad was amazing I must say, perfectly fried and crispy. The baked potato I had was delicious. I am coming again when I'm back in town and next time I'm ordering more of what I like to eat. Their waiter also offered a key lime pie that was delicious and creamy.
This place it's one of my favorite in the area .
I went many times for lunch and dinner and love that the happy hour starts at 2:30 pm which you can do also like lunch and the food and drinks are great especially the old fashioned 7$ . Last time I tried also the crab bisque soup which was very good. The service it's always impeccable and the atmosphere it's great with music which I love for an entertaining experience at a restaurant.

We went to Joe's on a Wednesday at 5:00 without a reservation and were seated promptly. The host was gracious and the perfect person to be the first encounter at the restaurant. Jennifer B. was our server and she was attentive and a delight. We started out with a dozen oysters and I have to say they tasted old and were a bit shriveled. We both had the Steak (medium rare) and Tail. The lobster was perfect, the meat a bit tough but had good flavor. We were comped a slice of key lime pie because it was our first visit. I didn't taste it because I can't do sweetened condenced milk. We had a great time because of the staff. Was the food worth the price. NOPE
Amazing food.
Excellent service. This is a must visit if you like big city atmosphere and superb food!
Excellent place. ROY STANLEY II most rude person i met
We came to this restaurant on saturday 11 may and everything was wonderful. Service and food quality was 10/10. We came today 13 may on our last night in chicago to repeat the experience. We called by phone, a lady answered and told us to go that there was plenty of space in the dining room. We arrived there and we met a really disgusting person named ROY STANLEY II. He told us we were not able to eat at the dining room (eventhough there was plenty of space) because we didn't have a reservation. Then MARISSA WYANT (probably the same lady that answered the phone when we called) came and she also said we couldn't have dinner in the dining room. Its really a negligence for a restaurant of this category to have a manager and a maitre so disrespectful. They ruin all the effort that their colleges do in the dining room and in the kitchen. And to finish one of the worse experiences we had at the door of a restaurants in all our lives a security lady came to push us by force to the exit door. I wish some important authority of this excellent restaurant reads this to do something about this horrible situation
Featured Dishes Recommendation: 1:Stone crab
Featured Dishes Recommendation: 1:Stone crab claws 2:half dozen oysters 3:rib eye steak
Excellent experience today at lunch thanks to our waiter.
He was a delight. I noted that I have a shellfish allergy and went out of his way to make sure I had an excellent experience. Above and beyond. Cut up strawberries! I don't remember his name but his 20 something son is moving to DC. Please tell him he made my day.
Thank Goodness it is in Chicago!
Phenomenal food and service- Stone Crabs were just what I really needed! Service was first rate and right in the thick of the downtown Chicago fun!
This place is a gem.
We were able to get a table thanks to the gracious host at the front. The food was excellent including the seafood platter and the crab stuffed shrimp. Loved the dark and comfy dining area with a great wait staff. Will definitely return.
Worth the price!
Incredible food and service. We loved everything we ordered because it was delicious and perfectly cooked. The crab cake was almost pure crab meat - no filler. Free dessert for the birthdays we were celebrating. Amazing experience
Excellent food, terrible cocktails
Four of us had dinner at Joes. We had octopus appetizer, 3 sides: potatoes lyonnaise, broccolini, fried asparagus, and we each had a different seafood entree. The asparagus was just ok, everything else was outstanding. 3 of us had cocktails and one had wine. We are not big drinkers, but the cocktails were massively disappointing. They were very very weak, like the bartender forgot to add the alcohol. We each had a dessert. They were very good, but they were huge. We should have ordered 2 and shared. Overall, a very nice experience, but we will go elsewhere for our drinks.
Classic American Fare with Superb Service
Food / Lunch meal / Beef Tenderloin Sandwich with onion rings Drinks / Jasmine Tea with Dickinson’s honey and steamed oat milk Entree / The Tenderloin was cooked to a perfect medium as requested and served with a nice aioli sauce and arugula. The onion roll used as the bun was a nice touch, albeit a bit overpowering the overall palette. Side / The onion rings as a side were nicely crispy and stringy, perfect as a compliment to the sandwich. Atmosphere / The design of the restaurant is old school Chicago steakhouse, while I sat in the bar area, there is a formal seating area behind velvet curtains, perfect for a date. Presentation / The food was plated in classic Americana style, nothing too special but familiar and easy on the eyes. As a lunch seating, it led to a meal with easy conversation. Service / Above and beyond, the busboy always made sure the water was filled and was on top of his game. Requests were fulfilled within minutes and totally professional. Waitress / Tamika was very friendly and positive when asking to pair my tea with milk and honey she asked if I would like my milk served cold or steamed, a rare touch of good service that is hard to come by this day and age. After the meal, we made some nice small talk and got a to-go cup for my tea Impression / A good lunch with fantastic service. Good ambiance and a solid lunch. Recommended
Amazing
I love going here always the closest place to me I love stone crab and Joe always has them. The service is great. We always sit at the bar and it's a great place to people watch.
A little taste of Miami in the Windy City!
I rarely get to downtown Chicago as much as I once did. Have not been to Miami in years but I was craving some Stone Crabs! Chicago to my rescue. I was thrilled to treat my family to this amazing seafood! The Stone Crabs were spot on great and converted the entire group into fans! Even had a chance to meet some local celebrities!
to try...
A typically American place and as such worth a try. We had dinner and found the Chopper Steak and Calamari adequate. The Californian wines are in line with the Italian ones at Eataly. Interesting is the bill which at the footer indicates the gratuity ranges in percentage and in dollars, already calculated on the basis of how much spent.
Eat Here!!
Excellent Food and service. You will leave happy and satiated due to the food, the ambience and area.
