Very good, but.....
excellent food and service....however, noise and closeness of tables detracted from the experience. complimentary valet service was a nice touch.

Went to Jeffrey's for my husband's birthday. We hadn't been in many years, and the last time there, we were celebrating our anniversary. For what should be a Special Occasion restaurant, I was surprised by the number of people (including women) with jeans on. Certainly didn't see that at the top notch restaurants we had just visited in Atlanta. Overall, I give this restaurant 3.5 stars. It is Very Overpriced for what you get. The appetizer selection was disappointing, but we ordered the fried oysters. They were surprisingly light for being fried, but also small, plus they had a sauce on them I didn't like. My husband ordered the 6 oz. filet priced at $65......which is ridiculous! Best steak I have ever had was at Geronimo in Santa Fe which is a far better restaurant. However, my husband said it was very good. I had the braised short rib.........yes, just one. It was very good, but it came with some cannelloni which was not that great. We also had the spinach gratin which was very good. The service was fantastic, but we were never offered ground pepper which is odd. All in all, this restaurant is overrated and overpriced. Won't be back.
Be the first to ReplySophisticated Steak Eatery
This elegant, fine dining restaurant is for serious steak eaters plus those of us who prefer not to eat steak! The two steak eaters were very satisfied with their choices and it was difficult for them to finish their meals. The steak was grilled just right and the sauce choices were varied and delicious. The other two options were also enjoyed immensely, especially the Gulf Snapper that was cooked in parchment together with Thai vegetables, lump crab, trumpet mushrooms and the most amazing sauce I have ever tasted! At the end of my meal, I discreetly used a straw to sip up the last of the sauce! The scallops were the fourth choice, equally well prepared. Reservations are a must.

Hi end, second to non service coupled with excellent food and great drinks choice. Food was excellent with southern twist. Steaks were excellent and cooked as they should be. Try the spinach with any main.
Be the first to ReplyPosh fine dining since 1975
Yes, Virginia, you can find something besides Texas-style barbecue restaurants in Austin. For fine dining and an upscale cuisine of dry-aged prime beef and French American classics, reserve a table in one of the three distinct dining rooms at Jeffrey's, a legendary culinary icon since 1975. Located at 1204 West Lynn Street, west of downtown Austin, in the Clarksville neighborhood, it offers a posh setting with complementary valet parking and a lively bar that features ice-cold martinis. Open from 4:30 to 11 daily, Jeffrey's is the epitome of fine dining in the Old West. For starters, my wife and I had truffled deviled eggs, lobster bisque, Nantucket Bay scallops and Little Gem Caesar Salad with white anchovy, parmigiano reggiano and sourdough bread crumbs. For an entree, my wife chose Dover Sole with scallop mousseline, leeks, sorrel caper leaves, meyer lemon and dulce butter sauce with creamed spinach gratin. I flipped coin. Which steak do I prefer? I finally settled on a 12-ounce Nieman Ranch USDA prime New York strip with the house's steak sauce, Yukon Gold pommes puree and seared mushrooms with garlic and white wine. For dessert, we shared a chocolate souffle with rose caramel and coffee ice cream and a buttermilk creme caramel with strawberries, lemon cotton cake and pink peppercorns. Proof that there is always room for a first-class steakhouse, no matter where you are in this world.
Be the first to ReplyGreat visit, great food, incredible service
Very good food and incredible service. Devils eggs, Carpaccio, Caesar Salad, Beef Short Rob, Brussels sprouts, Yukon potatoes, and mushrooms - all recommended by the waiter, all great. Wine list is 55 pages of the top of the line but expensive.
Be the first to ReplyDon't get the hype
Service was fine. Food was disappointing. We ended up boxing our meals and skipping dessert. First and last time there. They seem to be resting on their laurels. The steak for 2 was a joke price wise for the quality of meat.
Be the first to ReplyOff their game
Jeffrey’s is severely off their game. I was disappointed because several trips before the pandemic were much better. This time the steak was over cooked and tough. I know I should have returned it but just did not feel like making a scene. The oyster appetizer was very good though. Only one red wine by the glass that I was interested in. At this price point, I won’t be back.

Well, first things first - best restaurant in Austin. The service, the food, and the drinks, make Jeffrey’s instantly the best spot in town. We have been before, only for drinks, but this time came for food. WOW. Before even the hors d’oeuvres, wonderfully fresh popovers are complimentary. Next, a great choice of amuse bouche / starters - our sever Becca was absolutely superb; great knowledge of the food & wine menu - and after our first course, it was so easy to go for the porterhouse! Again, flawless service made the experience even better. And the soufflé is a must! All in all, you MUST visit Jeffrey’s, and whilst all of the staff are superb, Becca took our experience to the next level; we love you ma’am!
Be the first to ReplyIncompetent Employee equals big disappointment!
It was my son's 21st birthday and he was going to Jeffreys to have dinner and celebrate. We wanted to surprise him and pick up their dinner. I contacted the restaurant, since there was no answer I left a message and got a call back from a female employee. I explained it was my sons 21st birthday and we wanted to pay- I gave her my sons name and the time of his reservation which she located, I gave her my American Express information for the charge and specified a 18% tip. She asked what birthday message I would like to give my son and assured me that she would take care of everything. I gave her my email address to send the receipt to. Today I had no receipt- nothing, I tried to call the restaurant but no answer either time. I spoke with my son today and asked if he had a surprise at Jeffreys and he had no idea what I was even talking about. Obviously this woman was very inept and did not follow through with what she assured me she would take care of. Unfortunately, she is a reflection of Jeffreys as a whole and like so many mediocre people could not be bothered to follow through and make sure that what she promised she would handle was executed properly. My sons dinner was $300 for 2 people and because of this poor follow through by this incompetent employee he paid for it himself instead of receiving the surprise dinner that his father and I wanted to give for this very special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyStill one of the best!
This was our first time back since the day before the pandemic shut everything down in 2020. It's still as wonderful as ever. Great meal, service and beverages to celebrate Easter Sunday dinner. Impeccable meal - breast of duck was done with perfection as was the cannelloni and peas. Have dessert! The chocolate soufflé was superb. Sunday night bottles of wine are 50% off - can't beat that discount!
Be the first to ReplyA disappointing evening
We had wanted to try Jeffrey's for some time, having been told it was wonderful. When we finally went last April it was a big let down. We waited forever in a hallway for our table. Once we were seated the service was very good but endlessly slow. Several small items were brought out but our entrees took forever and when my steak arrived it was barely edible.
I know Covid has created problems for everyone but I think they could have managed to keep us informed and told us that the beef was not a good choice. Keeping customers informed is just good sense.
Romantic dinner
Amazing service and food. Started with perfectly seared Foie Gras followed by a very creamy seafood Risotto and creamed spinach. Everything was delicious and the timing of courses made it unrushed. The atmosphere is very intimate and quiet.
Be the first to ReplyOut of Austin experience!
I went to Jeffrey's for my first time yesterday evening. It was a really fantastic experience! My friend and I came in, sat down with the wine list, and ultimately we decided that they had a great selection! The food was also delicious! We both ordered dishes and then shared them, which worked well for us since they were both so good. I enjoyed the atmosphere as well. It felt very earthy and organic, which is more my style than some of the more traditional uppity restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed and WAY over priced for the quality!
Have lived in Austin over 40 years and have heard how great/ special Jeffrey's is for a long time. Decided to try it for our 41st anniversary. I would say I was disappointed. Nothing very special really. I consider myself a foodie and have eaten at many great restaurants around the world so I feel I am a good judge of food. Service was OK- nothing special. We ordered lobster bisque as appetizer which was good. First drink-Vodka Fizz was sent back due to lack of any flavor. Entrees were the red snapper/crab which was good but way too many turnips and nothing special for the price. The smallest Waygu steak, which was $75, we expected to be blown away since we never had it before, was good but again not special. Chocolate mousse/ banana dessert was OK- not special. So for a $200 meal, I was disappointed. Pretty mediocre in my opinion. Would not recommend it based on how extremely overpriced it was for the just OK taste of the food. Guess it was good we tried it but will not be going back.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic place.
Sit at the bar, and order a bunch of different appetizers is the way to go. Beautiful interior, and between 5-6 pm some appetizers are 1/2 off.
Be the first to ReplyPleasant, But Prepare for Sticker Shock
When I was broke and in college at the University of Texas in Austin in the 80’s, the 3 restaurants everyone dreamed to visit were Austin’s Courtyard (long gone), Green Pastures (now Mattie’s), and Jeffrey’s, where my spouse and I recently dined. The restaurant is lovely, with intoxicating lighting and colors. The service was mostly polished, but it had an occasional tendency to disappear like a Houdini act. The meal started with a comped bowl of caramelized popcorn and ended with a comped bowl of house-made petit fours, but everything else was expensive as hell. Truffled deviled eggs (hard to mess those up) were followed by a spectacular salad of beets and strawberries. My entrée of shellfish risotto featured pairings of just about every delectable morsel from the sea, and my spouse’s Beeman Ranch dry-aged wagyu filet was sexy and succulent, but both were more expensive than our hotel room. My eyes glazed over at the 48 page wine list (I had to point carefully--almost nothing is less than a C note, and our server seemed pained to break the news to us that they'd run out of the $1600 Scarecrow--I mustered my best fake look of mild irritation). Overall, it was a pleasant but pricey experience.
Be the first to ReplyCurbside is no drop off
Ordered curbside tonight for an early birthday present to myself. I would not call it a limited menu. Salad, Pan Roasted Chicken and THE Porterhouse, along with a few sides. Packaged well and held up for the 15 minute drive home. Even the steak fries were still warm. They also offer wine to go, but we already had some waiting so we passed this time.
Be the first to ReplyGood place but expensive
The food and atmosphere is very good. The reason I gave it 4 stars is that its very expensive especially the drinks.
Be the first to ReplyNice Place But High Priced Wine List
We really liked the food and atmosphere at Jeffrey’s. We went early to try to have a drink at the very nice bar, but with it’s small seating, that was impossible. The room was packed. They had a table and sat us down early, which was very nice. Excellent service, and excellent food. My only gripe was my pet peeve....an overpriced wine list as in very overpriced. Once you get over 2x retail, you lose me; and this was well beyond that. Nice list, but not at those prices. It was difficult to get a bottle of red wine for under $100, and I am someone who is very familiar with wine and wine pricing. When we got one for $90, we were advised it was the last bottle of it....that tells you something, i.e. when a $90 bottle of wine is the “bargain” on the list. We looked around the room....we were the only table with a bottle of wine on it. The menu says on Sundays you can have any bottle on the list for 50% off....and many reviews mention that.....I guess they are still making a nice profit on the wine to do that....how about making your wine prices reasonable to start with? So instead of otherwise giving you a “5”, I’m giving you a “4” because of your wine list.
Be the first to ReplyMy first disappointment for this place
I drove 100 miles to Austin to visit my daughter and we decided on short notice to try Jeffreys. We have been there many times. We arrived early, around 5 and decided that since we did not have reservations, we would just have a drink and appetizer. The staff was actually rude to us. I felt like they looked down their nose at me , like i was a criminal for not having a reservation for two months. Great, you are a success, your reservations are full, your restaurant is a hit. Its not an excuse to be rude and unwelcoming. Shame on you. We left and spent just under a thousand dollars at Eddie V's later that same evening.
