Jean-Georges at The Connaught London Reviews from The Last Year
Fantastic service doesn’t manage to save the day
At first appearance everything is there to make our visit an evening to remember: great decor in one of the world’s legendary hotel names and amongst the most friendly staff on the planet. Unfortunately as you sit down it dawns on you that the comfortable looking armchairs and low tables are, in fact, going to make eating a meal a somewhat less than pleasant time. The menu reads ok, with pricing to match the location (and London’s reputation as one of the most overpriced city on earth to eat out), which I don’t even mind. Where I do draw the line however is at the appalling execution of the dishes: the criminally overcooked sea bass with an exceedingly peppery skin tastes quite indescribable whilst the mash potatoes literally begs for the mere thought of butter or cream. I just didn’t have the heart to prolong the experience with desserts. The whole affair was seriously underwhelming and literally saved by the staff’s attitude. Jean-Georges - if I may be so bold as to call you by your first name - if you somehow do read this review I suggest you jump on a plane and come and salvage the aura attached to your name (as evidenced by your New York restaurants) ASAP.
Hmmmm…..not great, distinctly average
Champagne afternoon tea at the Connaught. Would I recommend? Mmmmm, it was ok.....unremarkable, distinctly average given the cost. We were seated promptly, then approached by no less than 3 waiters over tke next 20 minutes or so taking our drinks and tea orders then nothing.....we waited.....and waited. when eventually the champagne arrived it was good. The tea was nice but let's face it, it's tea. The sandwiches came up on our own individual plates and were well, ok. The bread was like supermarket sliced bread, really nothing special and the fillings didn't have a whole lot of flavour. The scones were warm and were good. The other pastries weren't very inspiring. There was a young toddler running around the whole time dropping scones everywhere (not the fault of the staff but you would think they'd ask the mother to contain him). The tables were all very crammed in and the whole thing just seemed very busy. Would I go back? No
Great wine service and professional team.
An excellent dinner and great service. Particularly enjoyed the wine list and great recommendations and professional service from our Sommelier Harshal. He was terrific- That was our second visit to the restaurant in the past year. We were visiting London. We look forward to another visit in the summer.
Average
Invited here for the Valentines afternoon tea, we both felt it was not as good as in other hotels. Firstly, the tables are squashed together, and you feel on top of the next guests. No privacy. The room layout, table setting, crockery are all disappointing. I think it looked like IKEA. Pretty pastries, basic sandwiches, nothing to make you think wow what an experience. Other places have more finesse and create a superior experience. It's all about the details and feels like not much thought has gone into the style here. Good service.
Simply amazing
The service , food and menu and the selection at JC at the Connaught was a dining masterpiece was amazingly good. The dishes some were the classic JC like the egg caviar was great.
Excellent staff!
I have gone to the Jean-George at the Connaught frequently over the last few weeks with clients from out of town. While the food and drink selection is great and the setting impressive, what stood out to us the most was the incredible staff. Everyone from the waitstaff to management were incredible, accommodating and welcoming. My special thanks to Vincenzo, Martina, Fabrizio and Edward who all always went above and beyond to make our visits special. They exceeded my expectations and we will definitely be back.
High Tea!
We went here for high tea. As Americans really no concept of this but wow. What a way better mid afternoon tradition than a siesta. The restaurant is very nice/contemporary. Service was top notch. Everyone gets to choose which tea and champagne they'd like. The "tray" of sandwiches and sweets/cakes available was superb. I wish I had one of those sandwiches now!
Afternoon tea.
Afternoon tea on New Year’s Day. Warm welcome and taken swiftly to our table. Comfortable seating and table presented well. The first food was brought to the table with no explanation as to what it was. We did wait a while for our chosen tea which arrived after the sandwiches and half way through the pastries and cakes. In total we were served by 5 different members of staff who seemed a little busy on the day. We had to ask for additional tea which we didn’t expect we would have to do. Overall an enjoyable experience, but a little disappointing compared to other 5 star hotels in the city.
Really fabulous
Afternoon tea was super. Lovely sandwiches, with the truffled egg mayonnaise a total winner. Beautiful & delicious cakes. Only snag was the scones were a bit dry. Gorgeous setting & good service.
Overpriced average quality food
I had seabass as my main course. Menu promised it in herb crust, but it arrived in a crust of black pepper which was so strong that it completely overpowered the fish and I could not taste what I was eating. Desert (pear tart) was much nicer. Friendly and attentive service, but poor lighting, I don't like to dine in semi-darkness. Also tables are not very comfy, too low and little leg room. Overall, I felt the food was very overpriced for its quality. Will not go there again.
Chic spot
Ideal spot - beautiful setting with holiday decorations in the Hotel and throughout the restaurant. Chic tables and design to the dining room. Slightly loud in the space but smart casual dress and really fantastic food. Wine menu by the glass is limited; however, the sommelier was very helpful and didn't push high priced wines. Food and experience was wonderful.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
