Worth the expense - wonderful week away with lots of lovely memories
Just back from five wonderful days in Longford Forest with the family. We hmm'd and ha'd about booking the holiday for a while due to the expense, and it *is* expensive - but honestly we really do feel it was worth it. That said, I don't think I would pay the near double it costs in school holidays. If you went wild on activities and ate out constantly, the costs would rack up extremely quickly. This was our first trip to a Center Parcs, and it absolutely is a slick, well oiled operation. We went for a three bedroom lodge with sauna and it was spacious and very well kitted out. We hired bikes (and were very glad of it) and it was fantastic peace of mind as a parent knowing there were no cars about. Our observations (good and bad) as follows.. Improvements could be made: 1. With wait staff friendliness. There was maybe one or two people across all the restaurants and shops that had any ounce of personality or warmth to them. 2. Cycle quality. Albeit you can hire a "premium" cycle.. but we opted for the standard, and the brakes were so rusted I had to have it swapped on day 2. Same again for the toddler trailer we hired, it had a hole in the rain cover. The bike locks were ATROCIOUS!! We went through 2-3 each in 5 days, as the cold seizes them so you can't get the key in, or if you can get the key in it then snaps in the lock! Thankfully the cycle team are only a phone call away and they come straight out and get you sorted. 3. Better management of the area directly outside the soft play within the sports bar. There's one small doorway and all the parents and their prams all loiter there making it extremely crowded and frustrating to get in and out. 4. It would have been helpful to have more kids clothing available for purchase (there was some in Joules). 5. We were worried based on other reviews about lodge cleanliness, but ours was very clean in fairness - save for some signs of wear on the walls with scuff marks/dirt/grease (not so bothered by this), and the showers had black mould on them (again, not super bothered but shouldn't be there). 6. Inability to do any washing :( A laundrette or something would be a welcome option there, as there are no washing machines in the lodges. We got around this by bringing some detergent sheets and washing our swim gear/swim towels in the bath but it was annoying. 7. Beds were quite hard.. mattress toppers wouldn't go amiss..! What we were really impressed by: 1. The first aid team (Gary?). Unfortunately our rambunctious toddler went face first into a pillar at Hucks while running through the restaurant when we first arrived, and the wait staff were brilliant - very attentive and got him an ice pack straight away and called the first aider who was there within minutes with a full kit and was extremely thorough, checking him over, and telling us what we would possibly see if there was serious damage done. He even gave us an information card about what to look out for overnight, and called us in the morning to check how he was overnight. This was very impressive for us, and hugely reassuring to have that on hand. 2. The Sub Tropical Swim Paradise - spotlessly clean, well managed, great to have the cafe there and it served very decent food at reasonable prices. 3. The general cleanliness and state of the whole grounds - not a scrap of rubbish anywhere, and obviously well looked after. Top tips: 1. Pack proper wet weather gear including puddle suits for little ones (we forgot... d'oh!) - the Parc market sells ponchos both for adults and kids for two euro though. 2. Some reviews say about bringing a fire stick but since the tv's don't move from their brackets, you might be hard pressed to get one situated. I found the HDMI cable for our Apple TV hard to get sorted. 3. Bring your own bike locks. The ones provided are pants and rage inducing. 4. Bring disposable shower caps (or something similar) for your bike seats to avoid wet backsides :D 5. Take a picture of the numbers for customer services/cycle centre on the welcome paper map they give you, so you can get to it easily and call for help when you have damp, hungry cranky children and are trapped by faulty bike locks :D 6. If you have a smart watch with apple/google pay and it's waterproof - wear this into the pool so you can pay for snacks at the cafe without having to return to the lockers for your wallet. 7. You don't need to go wild booking activities. The pools are more than enough activity for half a day. I think one activity per day if even is heaps - especially with small children. 8. Air fryer would probably be a good idea for ease of use... but beware there is not much space in the freezer (per next point!) 9. The fridges are just under counter ones with a small horizontal freezer - so don't go wild on pre-shopping. 10. If the restaurant runner takeaway doesn't take your fancy (and I thought it was pretty expensive tbh), it's easy enough and a short drive to scoot into Ballymahon for a takeaway, or JustEat delivers to the gate apparently. Things I recommend taking: - matches/lighter for the fire logs we had delivered to the lodge. - chalk for the chalk board - Drying rack (there was one kind of triangular one in the lodge, but it was broken). - bike lock - gel cushioned seat for said bike if, like me, you don't often ride a bike and value your backside's comfort lol - disposable shower caps to keep bike seats dry - puddle suits for kids - kitchen roll, dishwashing tablets, fairy liquid, teabags, tin foil/baking paper, laundry detergent - Rugs/blankets for cosying up by the fire :) - Ice packs for the freezer so you can bring out a snack bag for hungry gremlins during the day. Perhaps an ice tray too if you like iced drinks. - Fleecy suits to zip the kids into after swimming to keep them warm. It's a bit of a departure from the balmy swim paradise to the cold Irish air ;) Enjoy it!
Be the first to ReplyPerfect, a place you will just have to return to.
Our daughter and husband invited us to join them and their two boys in a three bedroom lodge. We quite simply could not fault any aspect of our fabulous short holiday. The lodges are cleverly located in the forest, their design so superb you would be happy to live in one. Having unloaded the car and then driven to the dedicated car park you have the perfect holiday location with no cars, so safe for children and everyone. Our grandchildren almost lived in the sub tropical paradise, it is quite simply perfect. So cleverly designed. Going outside in the warm pool was almost like being in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland and that is a serious compliment. All I know is that my daughter and family are booked to go again - you can give it no higher praise than that.
Be the first to ReplyGood and bad
Stayed for 4 nights in a 3 bed executive lodge. Lodge was good, clean and had everything we needed. Few signs of wear and tear - torn curtains/ splashes on walls - but didn't bother us. The pool is fantastic. Lack of seating however which was an issue when we arrived on first day as needed to feed our baby. Activity wise, we did bowling and our 3 yo did the Chocolate chef workshop. They enjoyed it despite not getting the usual apron (we were informed they had run out) - not great when charging €40odd for it. I did a 3 hour spa session, enjoyable as it's ultra modern and has a huge number of different steam rooms, saunas etc. Only downside was when I stopped by the cafe for a coffee and snack at the end, I was seated and then ignored. Had to leave after 15 mins of not having been asked my order as had to get back to family. Food - "Best" was coffee house and Italian. Worst was pancake house. Overall the food is overpriced for what it is. Indian is completely bland, pancake house was quite horrible and measly portions. We purchased a sandwich from Parcmarket which contained a human hair - informed customer service who asked me to bring said sandwich to Guest services as they could do nothing! Like I had nothing better to be doing! Overall, facilities and pool are great however food and the feeling of just being a number let it down. Great for children, not so much for adults. Wouldn't be rushing back.
Be the first to ReplySpa was way too busy
Paid €70pp for a spa experience, and the Aqua Sana place was like a cattle mart, so many people there, the noisiest sauna I've ever been in. Outdoor jacuzzi wasn't working either. Left after less than an hour. Also tried to get lunch at spa cafe but was asked if we were day trippers (it was our last day!) so preference was being given to people at the spa who were visiting the spa for the day only, as opposed to staying at the CP campus. Poor form all around, wouldn't book the spa again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat family holiday but ..
Just back from 3 days in this beautiful little gem but I have to say there was a few small issues. We were staying in oak 106 and there was sets of stairs down to get to our house.. not ideal if you have a large buggy( uppa baby) which I had. There is a ramp to the side but there is no way you could use a pram on it it’s obvs just for bikes so beware of this if your cabin is along that row and you have a baby. The house was lovely but It was not very clean. Sick smelt terrible, dishwasher dirty and fridge awful smell also. I found old contact lenses on the floor in the bathroom. Not very appealing and obviously a rush job. They did wish my son a happy birthday though on the blackboard wall which I taught was a lovely touch. Food is crazy expensive for very small portions and not great to be honest and we ate out a lot so we samples lost places except hucks and Indian. Takeaway also not great. Definitely bring a full shop to have at the house. Staff on the other hand were all do friendly. Activities were great but expensive. Swimming pool is fantastic but I think the 10am opening time is a little late to open when most people’s kids are awake at 6 and 7am. Coffee house has great reasonably priced cakes and buns and coffee tastes great. Apart from those negatives it really is a great family holiday we had a ball and it wouldn’t put me off going again il just be more prepared next time.
Be the first to ReplySuggestion for additional needs guests
Generally, very positive. However, we travelled with our 8-year old autistic son. He really enjoyed it but the lack of a dedicated sensory room was a disappointment. Shopping centres and airports now are providing these so I see no reason for CP not to. Equally, as the pool opens at 10am, I would propose a quiet hour for additional needs guests from 9-10am? Our son is lucky that he could put up with the crowds but many austistic people would not be able to. We also noticed one quite disabled child in a wheelchair and her mother had to struggle with the crowds so again would have benefitted from a quiet hour.

We stayed here mon to fri. We all had a great time. When u arrive and check in etc you are given wrist bands for the door to your lodge. Then u go park ur car and walk to your lodge. We got to ours and none of the bands would open the door. Now this was last week with the snow aswell. So it was very cold We had two small girls with us. I rang a number I found online and no avail. So we finally found a number for reception. Said they would send someone down. Now as we arrived in i seen multiple security vans driving around. They left us waiting outside in the cold after driving over 2 hours woth two small girls and we were all bursting for the toilet aswell. After 25minutes someon showed up with new bands and opened the door. I asked why the others didn't work he said dunno they just don't sometimes. I said it's not good enough really. Anyway all else was great but tht annoyed me. So ask when u check in are u sure these bands are 100pc working.
Be the first to ReplyEverything is an extra cost, food poor
Swimming pool the best part-activities overpriced and need to be booked in advance. Great to have such a variety in one centre but expensive if doing a few things. Game of pool 16 euro for 1 hour…badminton extra also… Food quality very poor, even the takeaway so definitely just cook your own- facilities good within the cabins. Pool, sports bar and cafe very busy on Monday am- every has same idea so bit of a wait everywhere. Pool very busy too.
Be the first to ReplyTrying to be fair...
This is a very mixed review. Firstly I will say the facilities are excellent. The pool is brilliant and there is more than enough to occupy kids for hours. There is a variety of activities to suit every age and budget. On site food is expensive and portion sizes are not great value for money but treats such as takeaway coffees and the ice cream bar are well priced. You can also order takeaways from Justeat.ie and they will deliver to the gate for you to collect. The setting is beautiful, we thoroughly enjoyed spotting the many squirrels and deer who passed by our lodge. It's a great place for kids to explore nature and cycle around safely. Unfortunately I have to agree with reviewers about cleanliness. I think it's proving very difficult for them to keep up with the high occupancy numbers and quick turn around of guests. I wouldn't call our lodge dirty. It was "surface" clean. But the closer you looked the more you could see it had not been deep cleaned in some time. There were food stains on multiple cupboards in the kitchen, the skirting boards were thick with dust and the toilet bowls were heavily stained. The walls were marked and grubby and definitely due a wipe down and paint. However saying all this because we went during Winter prices were lower and so overall value was better than the price of hotels and Airbnb's currently. Would I pay big money in Summer? No. Have I booked again in Winter? Yes. But I'm prepared to call guest services for a 2nd clean and I'll eat in for every meal.
Be the first to ReplyDIRTY accommodation
1. On arrival had to wait 30mins to enter after 5pm. 2. DIRTY microwave & untouched DIRTY fridge. I had to begin cleaning in my costly holiday! break!! Was told the snow brought staffing issues?? 3. COLD water at raging rappeds as there was a power cut yesterday. How unfortunate for our second visit to lodge 654 on 1st March.
Be the first to ReplyAlleged Food poisoning
Arrived at 2 pm and took one hour to get through security .Picked up bikes went straight to the pool, went to get the car to check in to the lodge ,neither key would open the lodge ,no answer when ringing security, back out to check in ( stress levels were high as lots of cars and bike and I am heading in the wrong direction)New keys finally we get in to the lodge but no parking near by at this stage. We had Cara's kitchen book at 6 so went for dinner.i had the burger ,everybody else had something different. At 2am, I started vomiting this contunied for 10 hours, so it was either food poisoning or a gastric bug from the pool .Nobody wants go on 4 day holidays and spend a day stuck in a lodge to sick to do anything.I reported the problem but I felt they were dismissive( alledged food poisoning were the word I got back and no report of food poisoning since 2019)however if you read some of the reviews here there has been multiple reports of people getting sick.We had center parcs booked for August needless to say, we cancelled our stay
Be the first to ReplyIncredible
Thoroughly enjoyed a mid week break to Center Parcs as a family of 3 with a 19 month old. Stayed in an apartment which was beautiful, clean & fantastic location. Thoroughly enjoyed swimming everyday & the outdoor playground. We did an activity each day which was very enjoyable albeit expensive for a 30/45 minute experience. Shop on site is brilliant, have everything you need at very reasonable prices. Only downfall was the soft play area for babies was tiny. Already looking forward to returning in the future.
Be the first to ReplyWay cheaper in winter!
I couldnt wait to see this place open when I first heard the plans. It's only up the road from me and I think Ireland badly needed a theme park like it. It was depressing then to see the prices when it did open. Well out of my price range. It wasn't until late last year that I realised it costs nearly a third of the price in winter so we took a week off school and work and had one of the holidays of a lifetime. We all loved the rapids most. The rides were class too but scary! Restaurants and pizza delivery were very nice and not too expensive. The cabin was class. Spacious, comfy and modern. Car loading and unloading is stressful with long walks to and from the carpark and they could do with more sit on yokes for the middle slide but they're my only gripes. Next year booked already!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent
We had an excellent time in Center parcs, very impressed by the whole set up. It feels like another world, I didn’t want to leave! Staff were all friendly and efficient and everything ran very smoothly, only minor gripe was a long wait to get in to the park on the first day. Spa was excellent, well worth paying for the 3 hours there, spa cafe very expensive but we found everything else on site to be reasonable enough prices. I would recommend eating in a night or two to save on cost and also the lodges have a well equipped kitchen and dining area. Really enjoyed the swimming pool with plenty to do even for adults, the changing rooms are very efficiently laid out and make for a pleasant changing experience which isn’t always the case at leisure centres, the wild rapids were fun. Ate at Bella Italia on the last night it was busy but nice food. Loved the atmosphere around the park it felt like a very active and healthy holiday with people cycling around everywhere, we rented bikes for the few days and would recommend. Hassle free bike collection and helpful staff. Will definitely book again.
Be the first to ReplyColin in security was the best!
I want to say thank-you to Colin in security, he was beyond helpful to my young son and I. We had a lovey time and no troubles. All of the staff were truly lovely. The ship had handy essentials but was rather expensive. There was a bad smell coming from under the sink that we had to try and fix but other than that no complaints.
Be the first to Reply2nd great stay in Center Parcs Longford
Once again pretty bowled over by the whole Center Parcs experience. We stayed Fri March 17-Monday March 20th. Stayed in a 2 bed woodland Lodge. We are 2 adults, 14 yo boy and 2 yo boy. We all had an absolute ball. We paid extra to stay in the closest to the centre area- this was well worth it with a 2 yo. The lodges in the pine area are ideal as there are no hills to tire our little one out on the walk home. We went to the pool every day bar the last. There was plenty to keep both boys occupied for at least 2 hours. We kept our activities to our full days on site- we did the interactive wall ball(great), Aqua jetting(big hit with 14yo) and my husband did the Aerial Adventure with the zipline(he loved it). We did a junior pony ride for our 2 yo(also loved it, great experience staff were so friendly and nice). We had lunch in the sports bar the day we arrived. Its always very busy and loud in there. The food is good so if you like that type of atmosphere it's very handy as you don't pre book. We got dinner delivered the first two nights. The food was nice and its very convenient to have it delivered but it is on the expensive side. We ate out on our last night in Hucks. Our waitress Michaela was so nice and helpful. The food was lovely and the soft play area is a god send. If you go, try the peanut stack for dessert. On our last morning we went to the pancake house and our waiter (I think it was Rogerio sorry not 100% sure) was so helpful. Our little one was pretty cranky and he cheered him up. Also gave us good advice on what would be good to order him. The food here is lovely. Don't miss the pancake house! Can't wait to come back again. Already booked again for 2024!
Be the first to ReplyLovely stay
Lovely stay, a few tweaks could be even better ! House is well stocked but for a lodge with 6 person occupancy there were only 3 bowls, 5 forks and 4 tea spoons. House was clean and warm. Our stove didn’t work very well but we probably didn’t need it as could up temps when we were cold and need it. Never had hot water in taps in kitchen but was not a problem in. The bathrooms. Almost every member of staff very helpful and nice which is so lovely. Are in the Indian restaurant, food was surprisingly good and waiters also. Main courses approximately 23€ each but rice is extra which is a pity as makes a main course approx 28€, tasty as it was portions were small and you wouldn’t be sharing. Pancake house wasn’t as nice, average at best, staff nice also. Shop is well stocked and not overly pricey. The spa is really lovely and possibly one of the nicest in Ireland, really enjoyed it !!
Be the first to ReplyTo many people in SPA
Absolutely fantastic time, the only negative comment is that their letting to many people into the SPA which is a shame and takes from the experience, other than that the resort and staff are brilliant!
Be the first to Replycenter parcs longford
great place great staff great accommodation. Que to get in a bit of a downer and security staff at gate let the place down otherwise amazing. Bowling staff couldn't do more to help kids and their professionalism is A++++
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable but children all came home with stomach bugs
I can’t fault the facilities for kids and the spa is superb. Food is only ok but suits kids. But our 3 year old and his 2 cousins of similar age who also came had stomach bugs the last day of our stay and for following week. 2 other parents have informed me of a similar story within the last 3 or 4 weeks. They need to sort this as it’s not worth kids out of school for a week afterwards.
Be the first to ReplyCentreparcs, Longford.
I went with my 12 year old daughter. We had friends staying in a lodge at the same time as us. We stayed in one of the apartments. That were hotel standard. Very comfortable. We joined our friends for some activities and restaurants. It is expensive to eat out. We had lovely weather, cold but mainly dry and it wasn’t too busy. All of the staff in every single area were lovely and very helpful. I would definitely go back so I better start saving!
Be the first to ReplyGreat 2nd stay with family and friends but lots of sick children onsite
really enjoyable stay with family and friends, we stayed in a 4 bedroom lodge close to amenities, brought our bikes which is great to have onsite. Did swimming every day, cycling, badminton, climbing wall and badminton. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had an amazing India dinner onsite, bit pricey (chicken korma €24 & did not include rice that's extra) My one piece of feedback was around sick children onsite. 1 child was very sick in the Sport bar area, parents too busy watching Football match and drinking while clearly the child was sick with fever, mother giving the child Calpol and getting ice from bar staff to try bring down temperature. Why was child left stay to infect others ? Another child under 2 seen full of chicken pox in the pool area and had been swimming. Really needs to be a policy around sick children in public areas others have to share.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic stay. beautiful safe place but no additional toilet paper provided!
Stayed in 3-bedroom woodland lodge. It was our 2nd time and this time we rented bikes which was a great idea, as due to the weather the journey to and from swimming wouldn't be pleasant. Super smooth with bikes + trailer to take all stuff for kids + 6 year old inside! Staff were amazing. Rented a towels for everyday which I also found super convenient. You not worry about carrying and drying your own ones. We used the huge drying machine for 2.5 Eur it was also very useful this time of the year! Rented a CABANA which they let us to use an hour before as we went and asked and it was hours for 4 hours. It was a great idea especially we had our own food and drink (but some soft drinks are included + lots of towels also!). Worth the price I think! One big downfall for me - TOILET PAPER isn't included - there were two started rolls at he house when we came and buying your own toilet paper I found a bit shocking... I would cut on tea or coffee but would never allow my clients to be forced to buy their own toilet paper.... Overall fantastic safe place, with huge amount of activities to do. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyA safe and relaxing environment for the whole family to enjoy nature.
Just back from a Mon to Fri break in Centre Parcs Longford and had a wonderful stay in an executive 3 bedroom lodge. The lodge was dog friendly and so clean and fresh it was hard to tell any dog had been in it previously. The kitchen was well supplied and had a coffee maker and separate wine fridge. There was a pan scrub, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid supplied. The bedrooms had ample storage and the beds and pillows were so comfortable. We had bulfinches appear at the window every day and Sika deer at the back of the patio that visited most afternoons also a squirrel was seen daily in the forest at the side of the lodge. The grounds are so well kept I did not see one piece of litter the whole time I was there, bins are provided for about every 6 lodges and recycling is actively encouraged. There are several shops and restaurants to choose from and really no need to leave the centre however I would encourage people to visit the lovely local town of Ballymahon (approx 5 mins by car). Also there is a fantastic walk by the river Inny turn right out centre parcs or take the perimeter walk around CP that joins the river walk. Also a walk along the nearby Royal canal greenway is a real treat. Centre Parcs Longford is a really well presented venue where families can enjoy nature in a safe and relaxing environment. Give it a go.... you won't regret it ;)

Second time going to CP and every bit as good as our first trip. An enjoyable, easy and relaxing break from reality. Kids 3 and 4 just love it! The warmth of the outdoor pool in the sun and then the snow and rain was refreshing!
