We stayed over at Borgata on a Sunday night and had dinner reservations at Izakaya for 7:00pm. Shortly before 7 we had a change of heart and decided to ask if they charge to cancel reservations - they don't. The girl at the front desk was very understanding and said it wasn't anything to worry about. Not even a half hour later we were both craving sushi and decided to come back. We were seated immediately (I guess it helps that they weren't very busy but I didn't expect them to be on a Sunday night). The ambiance inside the restaurant was nice and the lights were dimmed. The dress code says business casual which felt about right for the setting. We were seated in view of a chef. I couldn't tell if he was preparing sushi or robatayaki, but I enjoy being able to see the people preparing your food. Our server wasn't what you'd expect from a nicer restaurant. A little abrupt, sloppy, and had trouble answering what seemed like basic menu questions. All that being said our server was nice. My girlfriend had a glass of Prosecco and I had a Dirty Martini which I really enjoyed. We started with soup dumplings, 4 dumplings served in a bowl with what tasted like a vinegary soy sauce broth. They were delicious. Also split some sushi rolls and nigiri. This sushi easily compares to some of the best sushi I've ever had. Not quite as good as the best I've had as I've been to Royal Izakaya's Omakase twice in Philly, but I was very very impressed. We split a Spicy Tuna Roll, a Miso Glazed Sea Bass Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, and then two pieces of the following Nigiri: Bluefin Toro, Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail. The Bluefin Toro was heavenly - buttery and melt in your mouth. The sushi was all fresh and the soy & lemon added a refreshing bite atop the nigiri. The Sea Bass had a nice little char broil that came with a pleasing taste and texture. Our experience was pleasurable and I would definitely dine here again as this was my first time. The downside is the price, but ultimately you're paying for quality and location. Most nice restaurants in Atlantic City are expensive and the quality of our sushi was undeniable.
