North side ambiance
Our group was too large for the restaurant. Also, donโt bring the elderly or young minors. This is a smaller, vibrant restaurant/tavern with a large bar area, narrow aisles, and stool seating. The food is better than average, but the atmosphere is what makes this a popular spot for twenty, thirty, and forty something locals. A great casual spot to have a drink and a tasty creole style meal. Just donโt bring grandma, or the kids.
Be the first to ReplyBest biscuits ever! Plus everything else
Not kidding when I say these were the best biscuits Iโve ever had. I also ordered the biscuits and gravy which was equally as amazing. The family had the chicken and pancakes , thumbs up as well. Itโs a cute spot in a funky neighborhood that I would sort of equate to Williamsburg NY in some ways. Very diverse and funky shops. I read the chef won on the tv series Chopped.

Ina Maes is a lovely spot. The atmosphere is friendly and staff are great. They have good indoor seating as well as a lovely patio. The menu has good options and the food is delicious. They also have a good drinks menu. It is a reasonable price. The Covid policy was safe, with masks and distancing. I love that it is black-owned.

I have been wanting to eat here for a couple of years, I love catfish and fried southern food and it always looked cute when I walked past.
A work colleague and I met up for dinner and drinks here 4 nights ago and it was a disappointing experience.
The food was ok ..ish but the service was lousy. We waiting 10-15 minutes every time we needed service. Need a drink, wait 15 minutes. Need cutlery , wait 10 minutes. Want more sauce (in a plastic cup), wait 15 minutes.
The place wasn't full, there was at least 5 staff members walking the floor but they had that awful habit of never making eye contact with the customers; drop off an order at a table, don't check on your other tables. Walk through the restaurant; look up so none of your customers can catch your eye.
My catfish was ok and my companions chicken was ok but when service stinks ok food doesn't cut it. And please get rid of all the throw away plastic cups/sauce containers, use something compostable or something washable.
We won't be back.
Lip smackin' goodness!
She had a hankerin' for some collard greens. Pure and simple. She found some surfing for some Southern cookin'. Ina Mae Tavern. Never heard of it.
"Are you up for it?" Um, yeah, sure, whatever.
"They have a special with collard greens, ham and potato and bacon casserole"
(Potatoes and bacon are two of my favorite things to eat.)
My ears perked up like a dog when you say the word "Walkies?"
Sure! Count me in. Whoopie!
One drawback- no delivery to the South Loop. Rats!
The sudden craving overcame my reluctance to drive so drive I did on a Sunday afternoon. 20 minutes later we pulled up opposite the restaurant which had tables outside. Nowhere close to park so I kept the engine running and we called the restaurant. The hostess gladly brought the food to our car. She was wearing a mask and was very friendly so points earned there in both regards.
Back at the ranch we did a reheat in the oven. There was too much food to eat in one sitting-the special was a dinner for 4 for under $100 once all the taxes and such were added. I think we got 3 meals out of it.
How was the food?
Can I say "Yummy?" Very much so-simple grub well prepared. Collard greens with nice chunks of ham hock helping them sing. Ham is ham and always welcome on my plate. Potatoes and bacon casserole had us doing a happy dance. I want that recipe! Heads nodding like those cute little dogs that people used to put in their rear car windows.
Dessert was 2 cobblers-an apple and a peach. Both delicious!
Them belly full...
We didn't go in so I can't comment on the service/ambiance but the cooking would encourage us to visit in less-Covid times. An outdoor table when the weather gets warm would be just the ticket!
We'll be back!
Great service was the standout
Hush puppies and pimento cheese were amazing as well as cheeseburger po boy with pimento. Service was excellent. Hot chicken not a table favorite, but the overall experience was good.
Be the first to ReplyGet the hush puppies!
The hush puppies with pimento cheese dip were to die for! Good drinks and alcoholic snow balls! Had the catfish po-boy for dinner and it was alright- could have been more flavorful. Very good prices.
Served everything in disposable containers due to covid. This worked fine for the food but would have preferred if the drinks and snowballs were in regular containers.
Good southern hospitality
I had the Nashville chicken po boy. Really good. Seasoned well, bread was a bit tough. My friend ordered chicken wings that came with a sweet syrup and a side of biscuit. Really tasty. We also ordered a side of collard greens, they were very good, I could taste all of the seasonings. If youโre concerned about hypertension I wouldnโt recommend Lol lbs. I had the green apple slushy with tequila which was also good. The letters from the little tequila bottle started coming off in my drink and I thought something was in my drink until I realized it was just the letters off my little tequila bottle. Over all I had a good experience. Waitress was nice as well.
Good times

Seen it on a chgo TV show so we took the ride
It was OK not bad but not great
Shrimp po boy, honey chicken, blackened cauliflower
Nice place and area
Disrespectful
If you like high school cafeteria food and being treated horribly. This is the place for you. Jewel fried chicken blows this away

Nice neighborhood location in Wicker Park area. Food is cajun style eats. Recipes are from old family traditions. Good food and atmosphere with attentive wait staff.
Be the first to ReplyYes, itโs delicious
So itโs not actually in New Orleans but it sure tastes like it is. The elotes is our new first choice. The gumbo was great! The dirty rice rice was downright scrumptious. Great service!!
