Hosteria Grappolo d'oro Roma Reviews from The Last Year
Good, but disappointing and expensive polpettes
Delicious Cacio e Pepe pasta to boot. However, the polpettes at €16.50 are bland and edgy. Too bad in Italy :(
Excellent little restaurant a stone's throw from the centre
A stone's throw from the center, excellent traditional Roman cuisine. Accurate and familiar service. High level carbonara. Fair price for the quality of the food.
Skip the lines at the nearby restaurants and come here.
At least when I came here around 8pm was no line and the other "popular" Instagram restaurants were busy. Also this place has a Michelin Bib while the others do not. Everything was very well prepared, from start to finish. Cacio e peoe was great, and so was the braised beef cheek. Very melty. Pasta was very al dente in classic Roman style. Inside feels very calm and quaint and service was nice as well. Would highly recommend!
Good food, service to be reviewed
Classic Roman location, a little messy and chaotic. Surely good raw materials make good tasty dishes. Unfortunately the service is too messy and careless, a little more courtesy wouldn't hurt.
Very good
I had lunch in this place this week, the carbonara was truly remarkable and the dessert was also really good. Correct prices.
FIRST OF MAY...tasty!
Booked from "home" it was the first real stop on a trip to Rome. Chosen by the Michelin Guide for a good quality/price ratio, the whole group really liked it. In addition to a wide range of à la carte dishes, there are also dishes of the day that reflect the Roman tradition. We ate an excellent cacio e pepe, carbonara and the mixed appetizer platter.
Very good choice!
Excellent dinner!! Very nice place, good service (charming waiter) and delicious pasta. We chose a carbonara, very delicious, amatricia pasta and finally some homemade ravioli, this time they were lamb, incredible!!. Highly recommended. We will be back!!
IMPECCABLE - TOP LEVEL EXPERIENCE IN ROME
Worthy 5 stars with distinction and praise. After a 15-day trip through France and Italian cities, in the North and in Tuscany, we had our best meal at lunch at this Hosteria. Unique, impeccable from starter to dessert. The place is easily accessible and has a good structure. In addition to the wonderful food and excellent house wine, I would like to highlight the incredible service, which only reinforces the positive experience. Finally, book! It's good for everyone, restaurant and customer.
The best in Rome
We went to this restaurant last year... the best we tried in Rome! Super recommended! Exquisite dishes at a fair price for the quality served! We will definitely be back
Traditional Roman cuisine
Great dinner and reasonably priced near campo de fiori area. Our pasta was divine and the tiramisu was exceptional! The chairs were quite uncomfortable though. Just a small notice.
I saw this place in the Michelin Bib Gourmand guide so I
I saw this place in the Michelin Bib Gourmand guide so I made reservations for a Saturday at 7pm while traveling in Rome. We came right when it opened and it filled up very quickly with people who had made reservations. Our servers were very kind and professional. We started with some white wine which was unfiltered and was delicious! This was my first time having unfiltered wine but I loved how much bolder it tasted. Their menu has several offerings and they all stand out for their incredibly reasonable prices. We opted to do the 4 course prix fixe for 34 euro each (appetizer, primi, secondi, and dessert) which felt like such an amazing deal and gave us a chance to sample many things. We tried: Tris de antipasti tradizionali: the set appetizer consisted of 3 small samples of traditional Roman dishes. The panzanella was a delicious tomato dish which was bright, refreshing, and tasted of tangy/sweet tomatoes and olive oil. This went amazingly with the bread. The cod fish mousse was smooth and at first reminded me of tuna but with a slightly fishier taste. This may have been my least favorite of the 3 although by the end, it definitely grew on me after I had it with bread. Finally the boiled beef meatball was our favorite! This meatball was crispy on the outside but the inside was tender and made of shredded beef which gave it a more smooth texture. The seasoning was perfect and very mild which worked extremely well with the tangy and citrusy green sauce these came over! Reminded me a lot of chimichurri! Super good. Primi: my boyfriend tried the spaghetti alla carbonara which I thought was the best flavor-wise that we had in Rome, it was just the right amount of eggy without being too salty, and had perfectly crispy chunks of guanciale that gave it a little umami punch. However, his pasta was slightly overcooked. I had the tonnarelli cacio e pepe which was delicious! The pasta was perfectly al dente, felt very fresh, the sauce was thick and rich, and the amount of pepper rounded off the dish well. I personally would prefer for this to be slightly less salty but it was still good. The quality of ingredients felt very high. Secondi: for our second plates I tried the Roman style cod fish in tomato sauce, and my boyfriend got the red wine braised beef cheek. My cod was definitely overcooked and very rubbery which was a bummer. However, the tomato sauce was very nice and tangy, with little hints of sweetness from the raisins and nuttiness from the pine nuts. It came with a little side of sautéed veggies that were a little too salty, so I had a great need for water after. My boyfriend's dish was a little better. The beef cheek was incredibly tender, buttery, and just dissolved in your tongue. The red wine sauce was thick, and rich (almost a little too salty and overpowering) but we could tell the preparation of it had been meticulous and involved patience. Overall we were more impressed with the prior dishes than the mains we ordered. Dessert: for dessert we had a delightful ricotta cheese mousse that was creamy and just a tiny bit sweet, with dark chocolate, and orange! The combination was delicious and this dessert was the right amount of light to finish off a very complete meal. We were very full at this point! The tasting menu portions are pretty big (even though they might be slightly smaller than the regular portions) so they can accumulate fast! If you get this, I would not plan on eating anything after. I thought the food here was overall good and thought the prices were unbeatable for the quantity you get! The appetizers and pastas were the highlight of the show for us (especially the sampler trio of Roman appetizers which I highly recommend!). We were not so impressed by the main dishes and definitely found other places to be better. Not sure I would come out of my way to come here again but it was a good experience to have once-- especially because of the lively ambiance and convenient location in the Campo Di Fiori area which was very fun to walk around after.
We came here on our last night in Rome and were happy.
The dishes didn't seem like traditional Italian as much as others we had gone to, so it was refreshing for a change. We started with some wine and the beef meatballs with green salsa that seemed like a chimichuri. Then, we split two dishes- ravioli with oxtail (delish) and our favorite which were noodles with cream sauce, sausage, and asparagus. We got the cod after to split (which we didn't need), and it was fine. Overall good experience!
OK
This restaurant in the center of Rome offers good dishes, but seems to have reached that category of places that offer average quality food at increasingly higher prices, making it difficult to return. The internal environment is more refined than the external one, but the service suffers from a lack of attention.
Roman cuisine
On the advice of a dear friend, we decided to have dinner at this place. Very pleasant internal location, serves typical dishes of the Roman tradition, all served very well, despite the central area it is not the typical tourist restaurant that provides poor service, therefore for those who decide to dine in Rome, after perhaps a nice walk in the centre, I advise. Prices normal.
One in Rome
I am very happy with the food and the service, very kind people, I would recommend it with my eyes closed. The carbonara, bucatini, meatballs are top
Very good
Excellent Roman cuisine and friendly, helpful staff. Good wine list with many local labels. Right in the centre. Delicious tonnarelli cheese and pepper.
5 poor
Overrated. We were certain we were meeting the tavern par excellence, but we were disappointed. In all honesty we started with a good tasting of a Roman appetizer, Average cheese and pepper Failed Amatriciana, overcooked pasta and way too much tomato. Braised meat immersed in wine Lamb or boiled, we didn't understand, the cooking made us confused, that's it. Good dessert Friendly and very professional staff This is not a restaurant we will try again. Sin
Amazing!
We arrived almost at the restaurant's closing time, but we were treated with great kindness by Eduardo and the entire team. The food was simply SPECTACULAR! I highly recommend the rigatoni matriciana. Experience out of 10!
GOOD OSTERIA
Dinner downtown…. A few steps from Campo de Fiori there is this tavern that offers classics of the Roman tradition in a young and dynamic environment... the starters are honest, as are the carbonara and the amatriciana! Nothing shocking but good quality!
Worse than expected
The food was more home cooking than Michelin level. Unfortunately, we cannot understand the good reviews; the food was nothing special. We were very disappointed with the service. We sat in front of empty glasses for more than an hour and were not asked if we wanted anything else to drink. Unfortunately, the service was not friendly either. We would not eat there again.
Very solid choice - great pastas, good service, great
Very solid choice - great pastas, good service, great desserts. Would definitely go back.
The preselected four course menu is excellent.
Normally I wouldn't go for the house wine, but theirs is better than many bottles that I ordered in Rome and a good value. I like best that locals are there as well and they do not have a huge menu. I would absolutely go back!
We came to Grappolo d'Oro with reservations and were sat
We came to Grappolo d'Oro with reservations and were sat down immediately. Given that we found this spot off the Bib Gourmand guide, it was unsurprisingly busy. That said, our service throughout the whole meal was attentive and speedy. We each opted for the four-course menu. The menu included samples of three different starters, then I opted for the the Rigatoni alla Amatriciana and the Agnello alla romana, and we were all brought the same dessert which was some sort of cream with cookies. I also tried the Guancia di manzo brasata al Cesanese as somebody else at my table ordered it and it looked quite tasty. The starters were definitely my favorite part of the meal, followed by the dessert, the pasta, and the meat. For €34, it was a very large amount of food and many of us could not finish all of the courses. That said, it seemed as though quantity might have been prioritized over quality. Though it was a perfectly acceptable meal, it did not impress us like many of the other Italian meals we had while visiting Rome. The Rigatoni alla Amatriciana was missing any sort of unique robust flavor, the Agnello alla romana was relatively bland and very fatty, and the Guancia di manzo brasata al Cesanese was cooked less than spectacularly (sort of chewy). Overall, our meal at Grappolo d'Oro was perfectly fine, but there was not much to be excited about. Pretty much every other meal we had in Rome was more memorable, so I would encourage others to maybe find a better option.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
