We had such a great time here! We were visiting family in So Cal and wanted to have a great meal together. We had reservations and were seated right away. Even on a midweek night on 12/29/2023, the restaurant was packed! Beautiful ambiance inside. Great place for a a dinner for adults, I did not see a single child. It's dark inside, perfect for date nights! Stephen was our server and he was on top of everything! We ordered some cocktails and wine, the drinks were served at the perfectly chilled temperature. Between four adults, we shared to appetizers and for entrées. We loved the sashimi amberjack, sliced super thin and served with lemon juice and Chinese chili crisp (hot sauce). The Caesar salad was made with endive leaves and crushed croutons (or were they crispy pancake crumbs?). The salad dressing was perfectly balanced with anchovies and cheese, one of the best Caesar salad dressings I've had in a long time. Bass was also very delicious, served on cannellini beans that were perfectly cooked. The mushroom pizzette was delicious! I was surprised that we ordered this at a nicer restaurant, but very glad we did. I'm still remembering about this pizzette three months later. Someone at the table, ordered the Cornish game hen, which I'm not a huge fan of. It was just OK. But don't take my word for it since that's not something I ever order. The pasta dish for me was kind of a bust too. The top was too dried and crispy. Just a heads up that there is a restaurant via 5% percent added to your tab. This is separate from the gratuity. Huge thanks to Stephen for making it a very fun night.

$3.35 for "restaurant fee'. Mind telling me what this charge is for? If it's for placing my butt on your chair then I hope this place goes out of business soon. Also don't tell me how much I should tip, I'll decide how much I will tip my waitress, or better yet how about you the owner pay your employees 25% more so they don't have to humiliate so much to me because I'm literally paying them their hourly wages for you?
Be the first to ReplyOkay the off menu pasta was incredible.
Also loved the horse butter.... However the ambiance of the restaurant was a bit chaotic, and seating was crowded. Not a big fan of the decor. The service was decent and our server was helpful in recommending dishes.

Favorites are the Burger, Smoked Salmon Lavash, Cornish Game Hen and the off menu pasta. Service is 10/10, people watching is 11/10. Have a martini and draw something weird & beautiful on the paper tablecloth
Be the first to ReplyI've wanted to visit this place for a quite long time.
I finally went there last week and I loved it! I'm so glad that I was able to sit at the patio area where it was much quieter than inside and felt like I am having a nice dinner at a pretty garden. The food was also good I really liked their steak and tuna tartar. The off menu pasta was also good but was little salty to me.
Be the first to ReplyHorses has changed.
While their food is still delicious (best burger in town) and their atmosphere is the right blend of casual bistro meets fine dining, the difficult cancellation process, lack of phone/communication and unbearably rude maître d make it an easy pass. Try the food, if you're really craving it, it won't disappoint , but not worth the special trip it once was.
Be the first to ReplyThe ambience was great.
I went there on Saturday night. They managed the table nicely, and there was distance between our table and others, so it didn't feel too tight. Their "Off Menu Pasta" is a must. I can't stop thinking about it. So good! It has a creamy taste and is a bit spicy, which I really like. Not greasy at all. Thanks to our server, who recommended us to try this. The Burger came with lotssss of fries. Also excellent. Also, we had "Smoked Salmon Lavash with Cress". It was okay. Definitely will come back to try others dishes and that Pasta.
Be the first to ReplyThe ambiance was amazing for a date night, but possibly too
The ambiance was amazing for a date night, but possibly too dark. The bar and kitchen/dining room was seperate but wish I got a better look at the bar (tucked away inside). The walled mirror and the horses painting in the ceiling were super cute. The wine list was a bit too expensive, so we opted for two cocktails. They weren't bad, but not amazing. The food - we got the Horses Caesar and of course the 'Off Menu' Spicy Rigatoni. Caesar salad was super crispy and fresh, however wish they had cut down a bit on the dressing. But still very delicious. The Spicy Rigatoni was amazing, perfectly spicy for my taste (it is surprisingly spicy!) and the pasta texture was perfect. But checking other tables, it seemed like ours was comparably a bit more burnt. I didn't hate ours, but the outer rim was pretty black and did taste as so. Still really good - would want to try it out again without the burn.. Parking is always troubling - we were lucky to be out on a weekday and was able to find metered parking right away. But on a weekend, probably need to valet. Overall experience was nice!
Be the first to ReplyGot some reservations for 2 week of for a Friday night.
No seating inside. So the patio it was. The patio is off to the right of the restaurant with some heaters. The temperature was cold but we didnt need a heater. The staff was super friendly and nice. That includes hostess, table and waiters. The patio its self is done nicely. Intimate. Tables are close but not to infringe on privacy. We waited in the bar and grabbed a mezcal margarita. It was delicious and well balanced. We got to our table about 10 minutes after arrival. Scanning the menu we decided on the bread n butter, caesar salad, crudo and tartare for apps. Bread n butter was nice. Not heavenly but definitely worth it. Bread is sourdough along with housemade butter. Caesar was good and a hefty portion. All endive blades had dressing that wasnt overpowering. The crudo was mid to be honest. Lots of citrus which stood out the most which took over from the shallots and any other dressing. The tartare was my personal favorite. As soon as we sat the waiter let us know there was one more order left and I wanted it. Itself was very light. And packed good flavor. It really reminded me of a hamburger that was dressed up. Good onion and garlic coming through. it was accompanied with a light tossed salad. Everything went well. Off the menu pasta was really good. Good amount of heat. Crisp from the oven bake. No need for cheese as you can taste it within the sauce. Very good and large portion. Good delicious tomato base too. Mortadella pea tortellini. Very light, peppery and the peas came through. Its a play off a familiar ppp pasta. Prosciutto, peas, parmesan or pecorino. It was light n not overly creamy. You would think it would have been rich but it was not. Sheeps milk cheesecake with poached bordeaux pear. Delicious. Light. The pear was so much yum. Tartare, Off the menu pasta and sheeps milk cheesecake.

My wife and I liked Horses perfectly fine but we weren't blown away by Horses. Not so much where we feel a second visit is warranted.

I am so so so disappointed that my second time here was pretty bad. Food was ok this time but not as good as the first time. But the real downer this time was the service or lack of. Our waiter never came back to check on us again after taking our order. It was hard to flag someone down especially him. He was repeatedly checking on all the other tables aside from ours so it was very frustrating. I was finally able to get his attention after he gave the check to the table in front of us (who came after we did since there was a diff group there when we sat down). We've been done with our meal entrees for a while now so I asked for water (we hvnt had water for some time now since we couldnt catch someone to ask for more) and the dessert menu. It still took him a while to get back to take our dessert order. At this point we've been there for 2hrs most of which was spent just sitting trying to get someone's attention. I don't want to make assumptions or accusations but it really makes you wonder why you're the only table not getting service though. Down 3 stars seems pretty steep but I'm really left with a bad taste in my mouth and a heavy feeling after tonight.
Be the first to ReplyTOTAL SCAM.
Came as a family and we were ALL very disappointed. Came as a party of five so by default, we had a Pre-fixed menu which was set at $140/ person. Food was disappointing. They told me that we can each order our own starter, appetizer, main, and desert. We only got to choose our main. The menu online did not give us any information. They also only brought out three desserts per person when they said we each get our own. After tax and tip, total came out to $1,000 total for five of us. When calculating the cost of each menu on the item, it would have only costed $375 a La carte including tax and tip. Complete scam. I would never come back or recommend this place to anyone unless you're coming as a date for two people.

Loved this place, service was excellent! The food was super simple and tastey, ambience was very enjoyable, would love to sit at a booth next time. I had a coconut washed Vesper martini and it was awesome. Totally a vibe, hard to get a reservation. Parking was very easy too:

This place is very busy, we got lucky and had a table in their back garden patio (very quaint). The garden patio is well thought out with lots of patio heaters. We ordered the cheeseburger and fries ... this is the best burger we've ever had.
Be the first to ReplyFeels like the east village.
Excellent food and drink program, no sacrifice in service considering how bustling a Sunday night can be.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and chic and perfect for any occasion.
Our table was in the garden area on a warm summer night (this review is overdue). There was live music... or maybe they had a really good surround sound system. I had three or four martinis so it's a little unclear. The food was superb, our waitress was chic, overall dinner was very fabulous. Tessa Thompson and Ralph Lauren were there. Incredibly chic and iconic night. 10/10.

.. it's really that good. Service was great and accommodating. But the food... everything we had surpassed expectations. So much so, we ordered more entrees to go. This is a must.
Be the first to ReplyI absolutely loved this place.
The vibes, the service, and the food were all exceptional. Our waitress described their menu as being minimal but done very well. And that's exactly what it was. 2 things that caught me off guard were the burger and the herman pasta. The burger was flavorful and juicy. Cooked to perfection. And the fries that come with it were also really really good. They were fresh and crispy. The Herman pasta was an off the menu pasta that our waitress recommended. It was a spicy vodka sauce with Andouille sausage. I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did. They top it with parmesan then bake it so you get some crispy pieces and those were my favorite pieces. I honestly wanted to get another order. I already want to go back again just for that pasta. We also got the butcher's steak, bread and butter, sheep's milk cheesecake, and butterscotch ice cream. Also all done really well and very tasty. They also have a garden in the back with a different menu. Might try that next time when it's not so cold out. They have valet for parking

I was lucky to get a last minute reservation here because it was such a nice dining experience. Very attentive staff, great drink options, and a beautiful selection of food items. Amazing spot.

Someone named Charlotte is incredibly unprofessional and rude. Ruined the vibe completely. I have never once had a staff member try to make snide comments about my social life, nor could I have even imagined that would be an issue. Insane.

Came here for my birthday and got the off menu spicy pasta, salmon, and Cornish hen. Everything was delicious but the Cornish hen seemed pretty basic even though it's what they're known for. I'd probably skip that next time. The service was 5 star. The waiters were very attentive and made sure we had what we need. Would definitely recommend!

Amanda, the maitre d, makes you feel so special when you walk in the door. She's awesome. All the staff is great honestly. Make sure you ask for Bri or Travis as your server! The food is delicious, the vibe is cool, a great spot for a fun night out in Los Angeles.

To be honest, most times I try a "hot spot" restaurant, I look for reasons to dock the establishment in any way I can. Usually when things are that hyped, there's something rotten in Denmark. But I'll be damned, my meal at Horses was rewarding at every turn. The cocktails were delicious, and the wine we ordered was amazing as well. (Brought out to us by the sommelier) The Caesar salad was interesting and tasty, subtle yet flavorful. The Hen was succulent, the pork melted in my mouth. And then the pasta. The OFF MENU pasta. If you're here, do yourself a favor and order it. Usually I find that vodka sauce is an American style gimmick reserved for the likes of Bucca Di Beppo. This dish may have changed my mind. It's served on a searing hot plate, with small bite sized shells, the sauce glazed over it, but not smothered. I'll keep it simple, just order it. The decor is moody, with the overall structure of the space and lighting almost identical to The Pikey, the English style pub that used to be in that location. The walls are covered in artwork of horses, but it somehow doesn't come off as hokey or too self aware. The wait staff were knowledgeable and ready to help with any questions. They knew the menu well and were prepared to give quality recommendations. I want to complain but I cannot. If you are looking for a cool date spot with some excellent food, this place is phenomenal. It's very hard to get a good reservation time, but worth the effort.
