Hop Alley Denver Reviews from The Last Year
Funk Asian eatery.
The food was interesting and delicious. Very friendly staff. Really enjoyed it both times I went.

Outstanding dinner last night at the chef's counter at Hop Alley! Sean, Josh, and Jacob did an excellent, creative menu with thoughtful service. Favorites of the night included the grilled oysters, sea bream crudo, grilled asparagus, dry aged ribeye carpaccio, seared scallop, the duck (an absolute must-have!), the white chocolate sesame dessert and the forbidden rice dessert. The flavors were unique, complex, and well-balanced, making the experience fun and enjoyable. Highly recommend!

This place lives up to the hype! Really great drinks, amazing food and excellent service. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The spicy dumplings were a spice level 11 but so tasty - I did not find them as spicy and I'm glad we got it. I'm not a fan of cold food but my friend got the chilled tofu and I was blown away by how tasty it was. The Singaporean vegetable noodles were very comforting and flavourful. I'm glad we tried this place and it does live up to its bib gourmand status! Highly recommend drinks and dinner here.

Not meant for anyone veg, but the few vegetarian options (or vegan if you ask for no egg) are quite good! Would recommend for a date

The rumors are true: this local favorite lives up to the hype! My fav chinese dish is almost always garlic eggplant, and Hop Alley's did not disappoint. We also tried the La Zi Ji (deliciously spicy - and I mean really spicy and my husband grew up on sichuan food) and the infamous duck roll. Are you KIDDING me with that duck roll?! They're huge + pack a fantastic punch of flavor. But the sleeper pick might have been the mushroom fried rice which I'm still dreaming about.
Great experience! Sat at the counter in the back by the bar
Great experience! Sat at the counter in the back by the bar and it felt like we got special attention and were able to chat with staff for a little bit. They gave lots of great recommendations on both food and drinks. The shrimp toast and Beijing duck wrap came highly recommended and they did not disappoint. Also loved the mushroom fried rice and pork belly, and ended with the Hong Kong egg waffle. A great meal! Will come back to try out their special counter tasting menu.
It's been a hot minute since our last visit to Hop Alley.
We've tried Hop Alley a few times before the renovation. There is a back area with more tables and its own bar section. Gotta admit this was def the improvement they needed since it was always so busy and crowded before. Service has always been excellent. We had to wait about 10 min as they were setting up our table. As we stood around the hostess stand, several, if not every single server that walked by us asked if we have been helped. Also, our server was attentive, timely and answered anything that we had questions for. Lamb buns were the first to come out and they were as good as the first time we tried it. Soft pillowy buns with tender and slightly spicy lamb makes it a perfect combination. The spicy wontons were ok. The server did mention it was super spicy, which they were, but that's all they were. It lacked flavor and overall a dull dish. The Szechuan potatoes were also bland and boring. And not spicy at all in anyway. The three cup chicken was tender, although the dish was too sweet compared to the authentic version. Mushroom fried rice smelled really good, but was not as flavorful once we tried it. Also, one type of mushroom in the fried rice was very sour, like if it was braised in lemon water. We asked the server about it and apparently the chef told him it's normal? As for the Beijing duck roll, it was tasty but the wrap fell apart too easily. Overall, Hop Alley's attempt at authentic Chinese cuisine with a modern twist is a miss for us given the quality and the price point of their options.
Denver has a strong offering here.
I met up with one of my friends who grew up here, and we had Gai Lan, bone marrow fried rice, and the Beijing Duck Rolls. All of the offerings were solid even with the many places I've been to here at home in California. Whoever curated this menu knows what's up. My friend told me that there's only one restaurant in Denver that offers authentic Chinese food but that this place is great for guests. I agree and am glad she suggested we have dinner here. The ambiance is awesome. Hip hop vibes garner your attention when you walk in and look up at the wall. The cooks are busy preparing meals, and the greeter was super nice and got my information quickly. Wait time wasn't bad at an hour for peak hours. This place is popular and poppin based on the activity of people having dinner, putting their names in for a table, and waiting outside. I'd definitely come back and try other offerings. Our server at the bar was super nice and efficient. Cheers!
Hop Alley Denver: A Culinary Masterpiece! Wow, just wow!
Hop Alley Denver: A Culinary Masterpiece! Wow, just wow! Hop Alley Denver has left me speechless with its incredibly delicious and Michelin Star-worthy cuisine! Every dish I tried was a masterpiece, but the standouts were the Chilled Tofu with Bang Bang Sauce, Beijing Duck Roll, and Bone Marrow Fried Rice. The Chilled Tofu was silky smooth, and the Bang Bang Sauce added a depth of flavor that was simply amazing. The Beijing Duck Roll was life-changing - crispy, savory, and utterly divine. And the Bone Marrow Fried Rice? A must-try! Rich, creamy, and packed with umami flavor. The menu is a love letter to modern Chinese cuisine, with bold flavors and creative twists on classic dishes. The atmosphere is sleek and modern, perfect for a night out or special occasion. And the cocktails? Creative and expertly crafted, with unique ingredients like chili-infused honey. In short, Hop Alley Denver is a culinary gem that shines bright. Don't miss out on this gastronomic adventure - your taste buds will thank you! Five stars, ten stars, a million stars... it's a must-visit destination for any food lover!

I love hop alley.
The ambiance and food never miss but, recently they have started the chef's counter experience. You get a one on one experience with the chef and there is a specially curated menu just for the counter. It was a very enjoyable experience, food was delicious and the people working there were very fun. Highly recommend for a special occasion!
Sat at the chef's table last night, what an experience.
Started off with the Dungeness crab dip, homemade BBQ chips and champagne. Then on to the Grilled Asparagus with everything crumble, Confit Jones farm potatoes, seared main sea scallops with fennel dashi and spring bulbs, Buckner farm lamb chops. paired all with wine and of course to top it off coconut lime ice-cream and the sorbet of the evening. Oh yes, and some tequila drink with a surprise! Every bite, delicious, the flavors over the top. I have been a huge fan of Hop Alley the vibe and excitement of this chef's counter added a new reason to love this place even more. Not only is the food over the top delicious, just love the whole ambiance of Hop Alley. Cannot wait to return. Thank you for such a great evening out.

Atmosphere is fun! Great drinks and very friendly, helpful bartenders. Food is more family style. Recommend going with a group so you can try more menu items though it's also a good spot for a couple.

Delicious food! I can't believe some of the negative reviews regarding flavor and heat. This is not a subtle, momas-boy, bland eatery...go to McDonald's for that. If you want bold, in your face food...eat here. Everything we ordered was extremely tasty and came out hot. The drinks are strong and diverse. Next time we're in Denver, we're eating here!
Great dinner - so many interesting and delicious options and great staff
We had a delicious dinner at Hop Alley. Some of our favorite choices: "Dragon Whiskers" (wok tossed pea tendrils with garlic and ginger), Beijing Duck Rolls and the waffles. Waitstaff were friendly and responsive. Wonderful evening.

As an asian american living in Colorado, this food was very nostalgic for me. It reminded me a lot of the food that I would eat as a kid and at home. These are traditional dishes with a slight twist. The flavors are close, just elevated. I would definitely come back to Hop Alley to try some of the other dishes on the menu. To start off, it was a bit frustrating that we had to wait 20 minutes even with a reservation. We went on a Thursday night and there were 4 parties with reservations waiting ahead of us. Maybe they have too many reservation slots for the same time frame? Im not sure. I would definitely reccomend making a resy because I dont know how long you would have to wait without one. I would also recommend not being SUPER hungry when coming in case you guys have to have 20-30 minutes. The service was very good though. The hostess apologized and thanked us for waiting. Our server was helpful too Nd asked about any allergies at the beginning. He also boxed and bagged our leftovers at the end. The drink menu looked very good, but looking around and including the drink I got, it looked like the drinks were all fairly small and fairly expensive. The eggplants were our favorite dish. Good sauce with balanced flavors and pairs perfectly with their jasmine rice. The duck rolls were also good, doesnt taste like a peking duck roll but still good. The bone marrow fried rice was very good, buttery and the tiniest bit spicy (I could taste a hint of white pepper which I really liked). The clams were decent, but probably my least favorite thing that we got. It was a bit on the salty side for me. Overall, food was pretty solid and this is a good place to come with bigger groups because it is family style. The dishes are not super big so you could also come in a party of 2. I like this place but I think it's a bit expensive for what it is. That might just be me because I am used to this kind of food and grew up eating it.
Awful! My mouth is so on fire right now I'm not going to be
Awful! My mouth is so on fire right now I'm not going to be able to finish this $27 chicken after 2 bites and I love spicy food. I'm actually hyperventilating. It's some kind of dry rub and I am in pain right now. In addition, the portions are a joke (not that I will be able to eat another bite). But for $87 dollars it's 2 tiny containers of chicken like $27 each and 1 boa bun for like $12 and 1 container of rice for 2 people. But honestly my mouth and lips are on fire and my nose is running so I need to go get some yogurt or something. Don't not order from here!! Horrible experience and need to throw it all away.
Unsure how this place currently has 4 stars.
This is the best restaurant I've eaten at in Denver, hands down. Service and quality of food were exceptional
Amazing experience, with delicious food and great ambiance!
We had an amazing experience here! Group of 6, make sure to make reservations. We ordered the Margarita Parón and teapot Assassin cocktail, and 9 of the plates to share. There is a big lazy Susan on the table so you can share family style. Our group favorites were the dragon whiskers, eggplant in garlic sauce, the mushroom fried rice, duck rolls, and garlic shrimp noodles! I also loved the seasonal pickles. Our waiter Ryan was great at giving recommendations. We loved the vibe, modern music and decorations with relaxed service. Highly recommend!
