5 Star food and service
As one of our favourite restaurant Groups in the UK we decided we could not miss the opportunity to try the New York version. The building is just typical Hawksmoor with very stylish decoration and a traditional feel. The welcome was warm and we had to chose to eat on a Monday so we could take our own wine for just a $10 corkage charge. The sommelier was very friendly and we had an interesting conversation as he had previously worked in the UK. We were served by Randi who could not have been more attentive and helpful. We started with a drink at the bar and my wife loved her Disco Cosmo cocktail , whilst I had to have the Shaky Pete , which was every bit as good as the UK and maybe even stronger! To eat we has the Potted Beef and Bacon with excellent Yorkshire Puddings and a perfect Onion gravy. For mail we had the 14oz Ribeye, immaculately cooked , with beef dripping fries, creamed spinach and a three cheese Mac and Cheese and evry last mouthful was perfect. To finish Jill loved her Rhubarb Meringue and I had the house favourite Tributes chocolates. Thanks for a superb meal and making our stay in New York memorable
Be the first to ReplyNot quite VFM for Fine Dining, despite great staff team and lovely dining room.
A lovely historic dining room with an excellent atmosphere - buzz of chatter. Food was good quality and service exceptional with a very attentive team on the floor. Four of us ate, and 2 enjoyed their meals, the other 2 shared a chateaubriand which was a bit tough and gristly at one end - served medium rare. Wine menu - outstanding. Sadly, the prices were outstanding too - with some bottles marked up 5-6 times the retail equivalent. Fries were average. Sauces not quite thick enough but tasty. Overall, a good experience thanks to the environment and staff team. Food quality and exaggerated wine prices would stop us from visiting again.
Be the first to ReplyThe best dish is the charcoal grilled scallops
Great ambiance and perfectly cooked steaks. The rib chop special is highly recommended as are the charred scallops, bone marrow and Caesars salad. The only blemish was the sticky toffee pudding which was served cold and still wasn't great when warmed up. The peanut butter Louis dessert was much better They have a very reasonable corkage fee of $35 which was great for me as I had some nice red wines I've been planning on opening with a nice meal
Be the first to ReplyHawksmoor needs much, much more.
I do not quite understand the hype around this place. It was loud, the service was indifferent, the drinks were small, the steak was dry with a watered down sauce, and the Caesar salad hardly had any dressing. The check for two people came to over 350. I’ve had better experiences at a Texas Roadhouse. There are so many better steakhouses in New York. I would avoid this one.

Ambience: a great tribute to the London version; great architecture and barstools and design; no music; buzzing scene Food: always impeccably; and surprisingly consistent expecting little London touches where everything is locally sourced--even the cider; consistently perfectly cubed ice--a rare find Service: attitude and attitude; I felt guilty for being ONE at the bar and ordering all the sides as snacks instead of a full meal: as a vegetarian oftentimes that's what I have to do; nevertheless it didn't matter at all I know the Hawksmoor locations well in London or tried to find out more about things here; service cold and snooty and deft and I felt like I was really causing harm by asking them to recognize my existence as a paying, current, living breathing human taking up space.
Be the first to ReplyMediocre at best
Decided to book as my daughter lives in New York and misses her Sunday Roast. The beef itself was delicious however the rest of the dinner was mediocre are best and definitely not worth the price we paid. It was an OK experience but nothing special and the restrooms were dirty.

Had a very enjoyable evening here with husband during our recent trip to New York after a recommendation from a friend and it certainly lived up to our expectations. The restaurant was busy the night we visited with a mix of couples, families, friends and colleagues all enjoying some pre-festive celebrations. The atmosphere was lively, if a little noisy. Our server was knowledge and offered a range of recommendations including gluten free suggestions and alternatives. Staff were also knowledgable for wine suggestions and recommended a fantastic red to accompany our steaks and which were cooked to perfection.

Great find, cool atmosphere and the most amazing steak. Service was also phenomenal. It was my birthday and when the server found out, they brought out complimentary desert.

Everything clicks here -- food, drink, staff, environment. One of my favorite dining expriences and looking forward to going back. Wait staff recommended dishes both to share and for indivisuals, and was unerring with each suggestion.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible NYC experience
We eat at a lot of top end restaurants and choose this one after much research. Apparently they cook each cut of steak each day and taste it for quality control. This clearly couldn’t have been the case on the day my husband and I ate there! $160 for a sharing steak which was tough and about 40% inedible hard white fat. Very underwhelming for what is supposed to be a 5 star restaurant. Fries- very thin and hard. All dishes we tried were way below average for this kind of establishment. Staff were scruffy and didn’t seem like they could be bothered. No happy smiling faces here! Toilets were disgusting, over flowing trash cans, urine on floor, toilet seats dirty. Over rated, over priced and so disappointing. The one good thing was the bar staff- they were very friendly and helpful. Forget the rest!

Although I have been to two of the Hawksmoors in London, I will refrain from making comparisons. That does not defer from the fact this is a terrific restaurant. With a bar up front and a magnificent main hall with special nooks attached, it makes an impressive first impression. Watching the bar men at work, confirms this is a serious place that cares about details and seeks perfection. All is not perfect, but close to it. We had a great table in the main hall, ordered drinks (great cocktails, icy cold, also wonderful non-alcoholic drinks) and several plates of oysters. All were terrific, especially the Scotch Bonnet dressed oysters. We went on to appetizers. The steak tartare was a bit different, but delicious. You cannot miss with the scallops, bone marrow or the beets as well. We ordered several steaks and enjoyed the "grass finished" bone in chop the best. Sides didn't miss either, especially the creamed spinach and the fries. If there was anything less than sterling it was the service. No major gaffs, but it was a bit slow and a notch below expectations for such a restaurant of this level. Still, we were all hard pressed to find any real criticisms. A day later, I still have a bit of a glow as a result of our visit. We are happy that Hawksmoor has crossed the "pond" and it should settle in as one of the best in the city.

Had such a great time during my first visit there a couple weeks ago, i had to take my friend there for lunch. We ended up being assisted by Luis, who was my server the last time. His recommendations, professionalism and his knowledge about the menus are second to none. The scotch bonnet and bone marrow oysters are to DIE for, steak was perfect, the cocktails, appetizers, dessert were all on point! You are guaranteed to enjoy the atmosphere, the service, and of course the food. will be back again!
Be the first to ReplyBritish sophistication in a historic atmosphere
We’re not fond of steakhouses, however, for my wife’s birthday, we decided to try the award winning Hawksmoor, a British steakhouse, by recommendation of Eater. It was far beyond our expectations. The cocktail bar is outstanding with new twists on old world drinks from by gone eras, as well as the classics. They had 20 plus types of cocktails and this sure kept us thirsty. The sophisticated atmosphere brings you into another era with the reimagining of the historic New York United Charities Building. We ordered the chateaubriand, along with pop-overs, steak tartare, roasted veg and sautéed spinach. Everything was amazing and flavorful. We certainly would recommend this amazing steakhouse for your next occasion.
Be the first to ReplyWhere are the triple cooked chips?
We've been to Hawksmoor many times in the UK so decided to visit the branch in NYC for a comparison. The food didn't disappoint and it's great to see steak tartare on the menu as it's been a few years since it was sold at the UK branches. The NYC tartare wasn't quite as good as I remember the UK version being but it was still tasty. Steaks were excellent, we shared a 32oz chateau which was cooked just how we like it. The steak had a very hard sear which I really enjoyed. The seasoning was on point too which isn't something that can always be said for the UK branches. My only minor gripe is that the NYC branch doesn't sell the excellent triple cooked chips. The beef fat fries are nice enough, but I did miss the triple cooked chips.
Be the first to ReplyHAWKSMOOR ONE NIGHT WOLFGANG'S ON PARK THE NEXT
We love Hawksmoor in both the UK and now NYC. The steak is a different texture and great. Loved the fries, drinks and service, especially in the bar. The next night we visited our regular Wolgang's. That steak had a much different taste but was again great. we love the room and the local crowd and the service is great, (same manager there every time). They had a birthday table for 40 in the centre but did not miss a beat serving us. Bottom line the room is better at Wolfgang's but the fries and Cherry Negroni are tops at Hawksmoor. Both are great
Be the first to ReplyVisited from London, no where near as good!
Decided to come to Hawksmoor on our last night of our trip to NYC. We’ve been many times in London and it’s one of our favourite steak restaurants so thought it would be the perfect way to round off our trip. The restaurant itself is in a lovely venue but unfortunately the food really is a let down. The steak is double the price as London, but not even half as good quality- we asked for medium rare and it was over cooked. The chips were either over cooked or floppy and the creamed spinach was bland. The drinks were good though. Definitely doesn’t live up to the same hype as the London branches and wouldn’t recommend or go back. Shame as we had high hopes.
Be the first to ReplyHawskmoor should be NEVERMORE
This restaurant has nothing to really recommend it and frankly it’s a bit of a ripoff. We ordered and paid for a 32oz steak- which their gimmick is you pay by the ounce and you pay handily- I cook a lot and grill lots of giant steaks - trust me this was no 32 ounces of steak - but putting that aside, part of this 32 ounces that this fancy steak restaurant served had huge pieces of nothing but fat! Who serves that? We did point it out to our server whose only response was to shrug his shoulders and basically have you think that this was just part of this steak that a kitchen couldn’t do anything about. The steak was tough and truly not great meat and poorly butchered even if one could quarrel with my assessment of whether it not it was 32 ounces, if you are selling by the ounce you should not be plating a steak with 2-3 ounces of nothing but inedible fat globules. We started with the scallops - nothing special , we shared the two salads - the caesar and the bitter which is endive and radicchio - the Caesar was bland - the Bitter much better and I would recommend that The sides - almost raw brussel sprouts with chestnuts and bacon- good flavor not properly cooked to say the least, the creamed spinach was marred by a very very heavy hand with rosemary which over powered the dish, the mashed potatoes suffered from a lack of salt , but of course that is easily remedied, the roasted mushrooms were very good. But one of the most disturbing things that I didn’t want to make a thing of is their adding a “ donation” of only dollar on your bill to meals on wheels - an excellent charity by the way that I support very much with my own checkbook and don’t need the owners of Hawksmoor making donations with my money AND THEY DONT ASK its just on your bill These corporate owners can donate their own money to whomever they choose but this practice is not acceptable to me. Of course, if that were the only thing wrong here - I would consider returning - but if you want good steak and sides and an approachable wine list - don’t go here. One last thing- when you try to get a reservation- it’s very hard - we snagged a 6:45 reservation- we left about 8:45 and the restaurant was never full -

My husband chose Hawksmoor to celebrate his birthday dinner while visiting NYC with teenaged boys. He wanted something upscale, but with food our carnivores would eat. Hawksmoor fit the requirements. The steaks were delicious, and service was very good. After days of hustle and bustle of touring the city, a nice meal was much appreciated.
Be the first to ReplyS nice experience (was hoping for a magnificent one)
I visited Hawksmoore looking for a magnificent food experience, I did get “just” a nice one. The food is good (they should put back to the menu the marrow bone oysters) and I have enjoyed a couple of nice “ultimate Martini”. The place is very good looking and noisy but still possible to have a conversation.

The food and service were both stellar. We loved the filet, the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese and the cheesecake but everything was awesome.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing steaks - great meal
I have eaten at Hawksmoor restaurants in London & have always been impressed by the quality of the food & service. To open a steak restaurant in New York is a quite a challenge but having read some of the reviews in New York papers it seems that they been more than justified in taking the risk and as I was there with my daughter we felt we must see for ourselves. It was a wonderful meal. The restaurant is large with dark wooden panels on the walls and to the left as you walk in was the the open kitchen. We started with a couple of G&Ts with some bread & butter. The menu is very similar to that in the UK with different cuts of meat being available in different weights either to eat individually or to share around the table. After a starter of the berkshire pork belly ribs (excellent) we decided to order a 36 oz bone rib steak also to share with side orders of triple cooked chips & roast carrots. The steak was excellent, beautifully cooked medium rare and with superb chips & carrots it really was a great main course. Although we struggled to finish all of the main course we decided to share a sticky toffee pudding for dessert - probably one step too far. The wine list is extensive and we chose a Barbera which was reasonably priced and we both loved it. The service was excellent throughout and there were a couple of senior staff over from the UK to make sure everything ran smoothly. It was an excellent meal
Be the first to ReplyThe London 5 Star Chain Arrives in NYC
Missing is Felix from London's 7 Dials Hawksmoor for sure upon the entrance of the restaurant, but the staff is uber cordial
Unique Points: restoring a building that was vacant for 100+ years, keeping the British color scheme throughout, the same menu layout and font of London restaurants, the awkwardly-named British champagne sold by bottle or glass!, the high-tops in the bar area, the open kitchen, the Blue cheese sauce you HAVE to get (the USA version of Stichelton hollandaise served in UK), one USA-made DRY cider in a can; two kinds of fried potatoes just like in UK
Low Points: dusty bottles on display at the bar, the space between the bar stools make sit impossible to arrive and sit between others without disturbing others; we had a slightly long lull between the first courses and the second courses; the bar had NO Bailey's or Bailey's Light of any flavor or variety, which seemed weird for a British-Irish influence; desserts need an Eton Mess addition or Pavlova, like in UK
High Points: the British consistency, the farm-to-table simplicity vision (steaks and fish comes with no garnish whatsoever to highlight the flesh), the wine list, the Ukraine-initiative war supporting proceeds, our server Michael was attentive and deft; Adam the Bar Manager went out of his way to point out unique wines and some similarities and differences from 7 Dials Hawksmoor; the perfectly squared ice at the bar
Really wanted to like this…
As a regular frequenter of Hawksmoor Manchester, I took the decision to book my last night in NYC at the recently opened Hawksmoor, New York.
I was excited to introduce my parents to Hawksmoor- who have never been to the the UK restaurants and I had been looking forward to the evening as the highlight of our 7 day trip to NYC.
I genuinely wanted to leave a 5 star review, but sadly, I am unable to do so.
Hawksmoor prices are never a surprise. Frankly, you get what you pay for and generally speaking, what you pay for, is excellent… so, no complaint generally, in that regard.
I should say from the outset, that the service was classic Hawksmoor- terrific, in every regard. It is a shame that the lovely service-staff were let down by the chefs and the bar- which was woefully stocked and painfully slow.
The starters were excellent. The crudo and potted beef were exceptional, but sadly, things went downhill from there. Three fillet steaks were ordered (1 x rare, 1 x medium and 1 x well done). I appreciate its heresy to order a fillet “well done” but my mum is 75 and “likes what she likes”. Only one steak (the rare) arrived properly cooked. Sadly, the staff forgot who ordered what, so I ended up with a medium to well done fillet, my mum with the rare and my father with a medium rare.
The medium-well and medium-rare were sent back for a re-fire. They arrived 10/15 minutes later, by which time, I had almost finished my steak and all of the side dishes which we had ordered had gone cold. I would have thought that this would have been blatantly obvious, but no one acknowledged this.
I genuinely wouldn’t have had a problem with the steaks being slightly undercooked , but given the price; the subsequent waiting time; the fact that all the sides had gone cold and I had long since finished my own steak was poor for a restaurant with this reputation and calibre.
Matters were not assisted by the 20/25 minute wait for drinks, which only arrived after one or two promptings.
As a digestif, I ordered three different whiskeys, all of which I were informed were not available. I was eventually given a whiskey which I hadn’t ordered “on the house”… whilst it was a lovely gesture, it didn’t go far enough to excuse the previous problems with the evening and again, I would expect items on the menu to be available, given the price and frankly, saturated market of steakhouses in New York.
Disappointing on the whole. NYC Hawksmoor has a lot to learn from the UK.
I will be returning. Celiac friendly
Amazing steak. The lemon bomb was the best dessert I’ve ever had. They were sensitive to my gluten allergy which made me feel comfortable in their menu.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible Experience - Manager Jennifer Delgado Rocks !
Incredible experience and vibe at Hawksmoor. Have been to the locations in the UK, and excited to see this gem come to NYC.
Manager Jennifer Delgado did a fantastic job of seating us as a lovely table, which had a great view of the restaurant.
Will certainly be back a few times.
