First of all, if it's your birthday, look no further.
This place treated me like a queen on my special day! I don't know if this is everyday practice, so I'm not guaranteeing it for you, but complimentary champagne and dessert made me feel extra special and made this splurge very much worth it! James, our waiter, was absolutely fantastic. He checked on us regularly and was very friendly. There were several staff members always running around to refill glasses, take away dirty dishes, and even replace silverware. The food was absolutely amazing. The she crab soup was rich and creamy. The steak melted in my mouth. My husband got the special of the day, which he loved, too. We hadn't gone here before today because of how people had mentioned it was quite pricey, but it didn't seem any more expensive than comparable other steakhouses in town. And honestly, it was worth it. Overall, an excellent experience and we can't wait to go again.
Well, we will get to the point.
Yes, the workers are respectful and comfortable with you. Everyone will greet you, which is very welcoming for customers. The place is nice and luxurious, but the food that is high priced didn't taste good at all. The two stars are for the greetings and nice environment. Then our waiter, Emily didn't get everything the first 3 times. So, we let that slide... then the food came out and it had no taste to the food. They had salmon with tiny potatoes that you have to peel open, but they were hard. The salmon had no taste too it at all. Of course, the others in my party weren't liking their orders as well. It did take awhile for the food to come. I've been spoiled with other luxurious restaurants where this one fell short of liking. Maybe when I visit South Carolina again, it might be better... but good luck on this one.

Hall's is a great place to see and be seen.
And the steaks are good. But they're not life-changing. This is not a complaint, merely a suggestion to keep in mind. Great staff, reasonable service time, clean restaurant with good ambiance. I'll be back because it's a known level of service and quality that will not go down.

Met a couple old college friends there for lunch, and the food was delicious--all the plates were clean when we left, so I can't confidently say everyone was satisfied with what they had. Food, service and atmosphere were very good. It was busy, but the location is primo for downtown/government business, so not surprised. Price was what would be expected for a restaurant like this and the quality. You'll have to find parking as it's downtown and right across from the capitol, but that's also to be expected.

An excellent steakhouse with great service and food.
I don't often go to steakhouses, because I can make an excellent steak at home, but I took my son and his three roommates here to celebrate their graduation. For appetizers we had the stuffed mushrooms, the calamari, and the spicy shrimp. I loved the stuffed mushrooms and calamari, but wasn't crazy about the spicy shrimp....but the other loved that as well (it was a version of Buffalo shrimp). Everyone enjoyed all the appetizers. For our entrees, two of us had the dry aged ribeye, one had the Kansas City bone-in strip, one had the wet aged ribeye, and one had the Bison. All the graduates said their steak was the best they ever had. Mine was also delicious. All were perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and quickly devoured. For our sides, I ordered us the loaded mashed potatoes, the sautéed spinach, and the creamed corn. All were excellent. For dessert, one in our party got the "cookie cake", and he loved it. The rest of us shared the bread pudding. I'm not a sweets person, but do enjoy bread pudding, and this one was excellent. Throughout our meal, we all had 2-3 cocktails...the graduates all ordered drinks from the Halls "signature cocktail" menu, and they really enjoyed them. Our server was very good. She had a sense of humor, was very accommodating and attentive. I asked for her name, but unfortunately I forget it. If anyone from management reads this, she was a redhead, and reminded me of the young woman from the movie "Apple Pie" that was the "one time, in band camp" character. She was fantastic, and I tipped her well. I saw some reviews here indicating the steaks were over cooked, and under seasoned....ours were perfect. It wasn't an inexpensive meal, but it was perfect for a celebration, and if you consider yourself to be a person that appreciates good food, service, and the experience, regardless of the expense, you won't be disappointed here.

Preparation is key!
I have been to Hall’s several times and have always received great service but today was different. The service and food was below standard. It seems as if management and the staff were not prepared for the amount of people that would be customers due to a celebration parade happening in front of the restaurant. A large number of people who were not customers were crowding up the bar areas and restrooms. My party was a large group and arrived way before the individuals waiting for the parade came in and made the environment uncomfortable and caused the slow down in service. We received our food which was not prepared to standard, 30 minutes after we ordered. Our server was bringing our silverware out with his bare hands, spilling drinks and not offering refills. Needless to say it will be a while before I patron or recommend Hall’s.

I love this place for dinner for special occasions or brunch for any occasion. As we know, Halls is pricier than your average restaurant, but that's because of the quality and experience that you get. Fast forward to this brunch business... It's just as good, and it's very comparable price-wise to the bribing brunch spots!

Caramel cake more like cornbread.
Ordered Caramel Cake which is now a layer cake again. It was very dry and had a coarse consistency resembling cornbread. I wish they could find a cake maker who could produce a cake like the one they served when they first came to Columbia. Tonight's version was extremely disappointing.
I'd give it less than 1 star if i Could.
My wife and I had a 7pm reservation. Didn't get dinner until 8:45 after we asked where our dinner was. People around us commented on how long it took for us to get our food and they said their food was bad. A family of 5 sat down an hour after we got there and they were done before we received our dinner. I've been to Halls in Charleston which is great, but I'll never go back to this one since we weren't the only ones with bad food and service.
Disappointing birthday dinner
Halls is a place we come for birthdays, celebrations, baptisms etc. tonight we dined for my father and husband’s birthday. In the online reservation I placed it was their birthdays, reminded the hostess and waitress while at dinner, yet at the end of the meal the waitress (when asked) stated “ oh I forgot”. After we ate our dessert we order was finished she then brought a complementary desert with candles. When paying this amount for dinner you expect meat cooked correctly and hot meals. The sides were cold, and meat (prime rib and lamb) were all cooked medium/medium well when ordered medium rare. Our waitress actually noticed after we were served, a male manager came tot ale pictures: It took over 10 minutes to receive new meals, no apology, cold sides already severed. The only good things about our meals were the bread pudding and cocktails. At the end I did bring up my complaints to another manager where they comped our side dishes (?). Cold sides and meat prepared incorrectly along with not making celebrations acknowledged is a far step down from the halls we have experienced in the past. Columbia has some incredible dining establishments I would encourage anyone to try for a celebration dinner over halls now. Not worth $300+ by any means.
Made to feel special but food was only ok.
Restaurant was perfect for ambiance, accoustics, and wait staff, particularly Wayne. First couple of courses were promising but the tomahawk steak was definitely not worth the money. Looked perfectly cooked but couldn't have been any tougher. Disappointed. For the amount of money spent, this should have been a meal we'd rave about, and we can't.

Beautiful restaurant with good ambiance. The prices were reasonable and the service was top notch!!! The dishes were served on time! Well, it was a great steak! Not too buttery at all and if you like steak, you will love this one. Overall the restaurant stands out for its area.

My wife and have been to Halls Chophouse in Columbia and Charleston many times the food is always "Best Anywhere". Service is top notch and they really make you appreciate the meaning of being taken care of. The Charleston ambiance is truly Southern Charm.

We were a bit disappointed in our visit.
The ambience and the service were top notch. Unfortunately our steaks weren't prepared to our liking. We did enjoy the shrimp & grits which had an elevated take, and the wine was superb. We'd be open to trying again.

I even had to take my empty tea glass ($5/glass btw) to the hostess desk to ask for a refill, after sitting there for 10+ minutes. If you want to pay NYC/Paris prices and get terrible service, go to Halls. The server was very nice was about as monotone as a dead cow. He didn't tell about specials and his attentiveness was very lacking. The server next door, told about all of the specials, including fish of the day, desserts... I WON'T GO BACK!!!

My husband and I went during restaurant week and were a bit disappointed. We’re native South Carolinians, and we had a wonderful experience at the Greenville location and had heard only great things about the Charleston location. We were seated in the outdoor patio, but they had our table right next to the open air on a 30-degree night. The heaters weren’t adequate enough to keep either of us warm. Our server made an implication about a side of truffle butter as if it came with an order of our steak, which it didn’t. She did this for both of our steaks, seemingly trying to up-charge us, as she had to know that 1. the truffle butter was a pricey addition and 2. that one side order would’ve been plenty big enough for my wife and I to share. The service was also incredibly slow and we didn’t see our server much throughout the entire night. We’re aware that Hall’s isn’t a bargain-hunter’s location, but we were intentional about going during restaurant week. We’re a young couple who can’t afford to go often, but when we do, we expect the best of the best from a place like Hall’s. Unfortunately, our experience that night will keep us from returning or from recommending others to go. The food scene in Columbia is improving steadily, and it looks like Hall’s might not be able to keep up in terms of performance. The prestigious name and history can only last so long with a subpar environment and manipulative service.

Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!

I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!

Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!

As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
