Tried this Japanese BBQ out while visiting New York and they did not disappoint. We went around 7p on a Saturday and waited maybe 5 minutes for a table. They are not like the traditional Korean BBQ with all you can eat. It's more of A La Carte. We had the spring rolls for an appetizer and We had the chicken, beef, shrimp and zucchini to grill with rice as a side. I also had a cocktail that was just okay. The service was was okay but it took our server to bring items with ask for several times to actually bring them. Over all it was a good experience and highly recommend.

Be the first to ReplyGreat value for your money! We came here during happy hour
Great value for your money! We came here during happy hour and ordered a whole bunch of food (6 apps, a side of fried rice, four meats, a drink, desserts) and it was very reasonably priced (even with the regular prices it wouldn't have been that bad). The food was all good quality and delicious and the service was quick too. The experience of cooking your own meat was super fun and it was delicious too.

5/5 Stars!!I've been to MANY KBBQs, but never any Japanese BBQs, and I'M SO GLAD GYU-KAKU WAS MY FIRST! First, the food was ABSOLUTELY phenomenal: * The spicy cucumbers were awesome! They weren't super spicy and the seasoning added a bit of a fun crunch to the cucumbers. * The cheesy corn was a fun little appetizer before our meal! I'm lactose intolerant, but it didn't upset my stomach much, and it was a great new twist to corn! * We had beef, garlic shrimp, Japanese sausage, chicken, and pork for our meal (approximately two of each) as well as Ramen (I unfortunately forgot which one it was) and I was not disappointed AT ALL! The portions were the perfect size and it was not difficult to wipe our plates clean. Aside from the beef, my favorite dish definitely had to be the Japanese sausage because it was SUCH a different flavor than I'd ever tasted! One tiny sausage link had so savory--this is definitely one that I would recommend!! * Another favorite dish of mine was the garlic fried rice--I will let this speak for itself (aka order it!!:)) because my words cannot describe how much I loved this fried rice. * I also had the Breeze mixed drink and that was SO YUMMY! I'm not usually one to order a drink when I'm out/having dinner BUT this was definitely an exception because it was such an exceptional drink. It tasted so much like juice (orange, pineapple, and i believe rum?), which is my personal favorite and it was super easy to have with my dinner! * Make sure you try their different sauces!! My too choice had to be the spicy one :) Second, the service was fantastic! * Lexa was our server and we could not have asked for a better waitress! She was so nice/kind and efficient with her time, which my family really appreciated. * The hostess was awesome; she seated us early since we showed up early, and she was punctual with her timeline! If you're in town, DEFINITELY COME TO GYU-KAKU! I promise you won't be disappointed Happy Eating!!
Be the first to ReplyThey offer AYCE or ala carte options now.
The meat was fresh and you don't feel rushed. Tons of food to choose from. Decided on the most expensive $70 AYCE but don't feel the extra $20 of food justifies the extra price. With 1plate of extra meat and some additional carb choices.

Love this Gyu Kaku! The meat is always fresh, and the happy hour prices are amazing. We've also tried the AYCE (~$50/pp) and it's such a good deal. Our favorite meats are the skirt steak, toro beef (which gets super crispy almost like bacon), and the shredded ribeye. Don't forget to use the sauces on your rice when the food comes out and definitely try the super crispy bacon chips!I also went twice for lunch with coworkers. It is $16 for 2 meats, including rice, soup, salad, and $20 for 3 meats with the same. Really good deal around midtown!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was Great, but the service was not good.
The "waiter" is not attentive to the guest at all, I know it was busy but still you need to check the table once in a while, I Work in a restaurant even we are busy we always get time to check on our guest all the time. Customers is always First.
Be the first to ReplyWe loved this restaurant.
I took my cousins here and we had a fav time grilling up our own meats and veggies. We also heard many a tale about gangs Hell's Kitchen by our lovely tour guide NANCAYYYYY. Anywayzzzz, the noods were fab and the rice was nice. Garlic and white rice SPECIFICALLY. don't ignite your chopsticks like my cousin did. Spent a quick stint in urgent care lol.
Be the first to ReplyNew York style, the waiter was rude.
The service was not even decent. The food was good, but if your service isn't up to par, there's a need for dining in.

Staff is always pleasant . Never feel rushed . Food is always fresh to cook . This is myself and boyfriends go to . Prices are great , especially during happy hour . Moreover , the restaurant offers a lot of perks such as free items and discounts , when you download their app.

Has been on my list of restaurants to try for a while.Staff all very nice and professional from hostess April , who made my reservation and greeted and sat us with a smile. Daniel the busser, was awesome. My waiter Em made the experience here the worst. ย He was very impersonable, ย didn't explain the meat options well and rushed through our questions, still leaving us perplexed. ย Daniel came and addressed all of our concerns. Food was great. Ordered fried ย calamari, wings and spicy tuna roll . ย The meats come in 1/ 4 pound to grill. I opted for sirloin because they were out of the short rib usda . My partner had the chuck i believe which was better because of the fat , less chewy than the sirloin. I think the price point is a bit steep for the amount of food you get but overall it's definitely tasty. The drink also 14$ a cocomo was tasty but weak on the liquor . I still was hungry after. I will return but order more food to be filled.

We got the lunch course and the create your own lunch special from the lunch menu. We recommended coming ย for lunch because it's easier on your pockets. For meat we recommend getting the beef tongue and the yaki-shabu beef. The dessert is mid though

I came here based off of a recommendation from one of my best friends who has been here multiple times! When I tell you the food is good, it's good! I wanted to cook some chicken breast (which was a little charred but that's ok) and my friends made filet mignon and salmon. I also opted for the cabbage and edamame. Everything was DELICIOUS! Especially that FRIED RICE! It was delicious! If you go, get the fried rice as well. I also had the lychee mojito which will honestly sneak up on you but it was delicious! Everything about the experience was awesome and it's such a cute idea for a date night or just hanging out with friends!

It was my first time trying Japanese BBQ and it didn't disappoint. Staff were super friendly and were great at providing their recommendations. If you go, you must try their spicy pork - unbelievable! Will definitely come back next time I'm in the city.

Be the first to ReplyGyu Kaku in 3rd Ave is always my go to but since I was not
Gyu Kaku in 3rd Ave is always my go to but since I was not able to make any reservations ahead of time, we decided to went here since they can accept walk ins. It was around 6 PM and restaurant is not that packed but it took quite time for someone to come over to give the menu. Choose to have the Ninja since this is always the combo we get in the other branch, the service is really different and the food as well. I'm looking for some few items that's kinda missing. Serving the food as well is so slow and we ended up just putting it to go with raw meat because we just don't have the enough time because ย they'll keep you reminding of 90 minutes time limit but with the food service that slow you're not gonna enjoy the food cause you'll feel kinda being rushed and the pipe on above us is dripping like on table, grill and even our head that's one of the reasons that really pushed us to leave.
Be the first to ReplyDecent ramen restaurant with somewhat affordable prices
Decent ramen restaurant with somewhat affordable prices (paid $70 for 2 for the BBQ and ramen dish). The staff were pretty friendly but very attentive to the 90 minute seating rule. We ordered the fried chicken as an appetizer a few meats to cook and a ramen to share. The ramen was lacking a bit of flavor so I had to add the sauces to season. Overall good 1st experience at Korean BBQ

I've been coming to Gyu-Kaku for over almost a decade now and always have a good time here. It's a good place to go with a group as their menu options are shareable. Recently went back for the first time post-Covid and felt some of the items -- like the tuna volcano cakes and garlic noodles -- seemed to have gone down in quality a bit. Still enjoyable and fun to cook your own meats. I highly recommend the spicy pork and harami skirt steak. They have fantastic happy hour food and drink deals throughout the day.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely love GyuKaku and definitely prefer Japanese BBQ
Absolutely love GyuKaku and definitely prefer Japanese BBQ over Korean. I got the Chef's Favorite to split with my mom and my server Annie was great! We had both just walked down from W80th St, Central Park, and were starving. This was so perfectly portioned, not a single rice gone to waste. I've gone here before with a much larger party and I picked the Chef's Favorite because it had the bibimbap and a larger assortment of meats than the cheaper one. For around $120 including tip, you get a good assortment of meat and sides to satisfy your Japanese BBQ cravings. I came here before and will come here again and again!
