Not worth it! And read why….
A short review as the restaurant is not worth the time. *Overpriced basic quality food. *I watched my cocktail be remade by an inexperienced Barman *Food was cold and plate was dirty *Staff hang around your table *Cold and stiff atmosphere. *This restaurant has zero vibe, you can hear a pin drop. *Filthy toilets!! This reminds me of london restaurant about 10-15 years ago - stuck in the past with the food and service. There are some great Indian influenced restaurant in the area which are worth visiting. Don’t bother with this one.

For exquisite Indian food, service, quality and cocktails this is fine dining done with class and a menu to match.

Had a meal with my children at grand trunk road , It was an amazing experience from the entering the restaurant upon leaving. Was welcomed very very warm heartedly, we were showed to our table, seated down the way the napkins were opened for us , how menu was presented how things were recommended , allergies asked about , the sequences how all went from drinks to starters to mains and deserts were amazing my family loved it. It was one of there best places they’ve visited. I would recommend to anyone. Great restaurant great service great food. It’s what you expect to pay for the quality of the place.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding and extremely good food and service
I am hesitant to write this review for fear of not getting a reservation in the future but that would be unkind. This place is a gem and if you enjoy curries must be visited. There is no ifs and buts, you have to visit and enjoy the food journey created by the marvelous and ingenious Dayashankar and the ambiance Rajesh effortlessly brings as he moves about the restaurant. I had the gin cocktail beautifully presented and very well mixed. I kicked off my meal with Amritsari Tali Macchi - crispy fillets of tilapia subtle spices, moist inside, melt in the mouth experience followed with Bengali Fish. The crispy baby spinach leaves were amazing. Your taste buds are met with the crunch of the spinach and the delicate spices of the fish that I swept up with the bread served in a basket. Delicious. The perfume dessert all handmade by the delightful Dayashankar was a master chef experience - try the food here don't delay your visit! I will certainly be visiting again and again - my new local Indian. Thank you Dayashankar and Rajesh. Happy Diwali!

The chef is very good, we were a party of 6 and all of us had an excellent meal, I had Sea Bass with a delicately flavoured sauce, it did not overpower the taste of the fish. The popodoms were the best I have ever tasted The service was excellent, unobtrusive, but there when needed
Be the first to ReplyGood food over priced.
The food is good The price is not justified in my opinion. The interior decor is ok at best But a lot better than the outside first impression.it offers. The staff are very friendly and the service is great.

The food is absolutely delicious, so authentic and tasty. The service is just as good - extremely professional and warming service. The interior is also beautiful which makes the whole experience even better. Amazing restaurant all-round. Perfect for a family dinner or date night.
Be the first to ReplySpecial celebration meal for 25
Grand Trunk Road organised a 25 person celebration meal for me. The food was outstanding with a wide array of food and great options for those with dietary requirements. Service was attentive and considerate throughout. Highly recommended.

The food at this restaurant was beautiful. We had the set menu offer for October which offered a variety of lovely dishes that we had not experienced before. The service was impeccable and extremely friendly. The staff were very happy to answer any questions and tell us about the restaurant and the food. This was our first visit and we will definitely return. Do ask for the menu if an offer is advertised on line, they are very happy to accommodate.
Be the first to ReplyGrand Trunk Road - exceptional find
Myself and my husband are in East London for a friends wedding and travelled down from Liverpool today. This restaurant was still a distance from where we are staying but having seen the reviews we thought it was worth the effort. I am so very glad we did! What a beautiful restaurant with gorgeous food and wonderful staff. It has a lovely relaxed environment and is very customer led with staff being attentive. The food is out of this world!! We picked the shared starter of stuffed paneer and pepper and the flavours were unreal. We really enjoyed the delicate touches of a birthday cake and glass of fizz too. Very clean and huge attention to detail. Delicious cocktails too! Would highly recommend.

Be the first to ReplyConsistently superb Indian food...
My partner and I have been to Michelin Star Indian restaurant GTR four times now over the last few years and the food and service have been consistenly excellent. Three of us went again yesterday evening (Wednesday 8th June 2022). For starters, two of us had the soft shell crab, the other starter was Rawalpindi Chapli Kebab - all excellent. For mains, Royal lamb shank in a delicious thick sauce, with Pulao Rice, Lamb Biryani with a side dish of Dhaba Dal, and one vegetarian main course - Varanasi Ka Lauki Kofte with rice. We all had one small Cobra beer each. I can't imagine that any of us will visit another Indian restaurant again in this area (and there are quite a few of them) as none of them... and I mean none of them... come anywhere near the high standard dishes served at GTR. The cost?... the total bill for the three of us was £134.75 but we were given a 15% discount of £20.21 (I don't know why) and so with a 10% service charge added, we paid £128.01 Was it worth it? - ABSOLUTELY! If you're looking for an excellent Indian meal out, you cannot do better than "Grand Trunk Road" in South Woodford, E18. Treat yourself - you won't regret it!
Be the first to ReplyBottomless brunch with friends
Went last week on the Jubilee weekend for the bottomless brunch. There were 10 of us.The service was excellent and the offer of £47 for brunch (with bottomless prosecco for £47) was well worth it. The waiter topped our drinks up and we can't fault the service. They made us feel very welcome, even though we were a bit loud. Would def recommend this. Obviously, the food was lovely as always.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent care, attention to detail and patience with young families
We have been to Grand Trunk Road a couple of times so far, once to celebrate mother's day and the second to celebrate a milestone birthday. We are definitely going to be back. The care, attention to detail and the kindness shown by the staff is commendable. Mr Suri helped me put together a special vegetarian birthday menu and no request was too small. They even organised an eggless birthday cake. With two young children, I would have never managed to organise an event of this scale without their help. The food was excellent, well balanced, well paired and plentiful. Special mention goes out to the okra, overnight daal and lauki kofta. Also recommend the Berry mocktail which was very well received by my guests. Being Indian myself, I am often not very satisfied with the food I eat at Indian restraunts in the UK and prefer to eat at restraunts offering other cuisines. Grand Trunk Road is definitely going to be an exception, if only for their chaat! Although we did not have enough guests to book the restraunt out, care was taken to ensure our needs were met at the first instance. This was especially the case with the children's food which was specially plated for them. Mr Suri, your team has definitely won a lot of young families over! Children (5year olds mostly in this case) are often the harshest critics, but the hush that fell over the tables when food was served was appreciable! Thank you to everyone at Grand Trunk Road for making my husband's birthday an immensely enjoyable experience despite it falling on the same day as the Ride Essex event with all its challenges.
Be the first to ReplyThe best Indian food!
We treated ourselves today and went out for brunch at 'The Grand Trunk Road' in Woodford. From the first bite to the last it was very obvious why they have gathered so many awards! Not cheap but we left very full and very happy! Not obvious was why with such phenomenal food the place was empty apart from us. Excellent service and friendly staff. Do give them a try, it is really good food.

Ate at GTR with friends last night. The food was amazing, so tasty and excellent flavours. Relaxed atmosphere. All staff friendly, professional and helpful. Every starter and main was delicious. Also enjoyed an espresso martini at end of meal. First visit but will definitely return.

We came today for bottomless lunch, and it was absolutely incredible. I can’t eat dairy, and the chef was so accommodating, creating something dairy free for all courses for me so that I could eat almost the same as the rest of the group. As always, the food and service was amazing. I have come here many times, and look forward to coming back many times more.
Be the first to ReplyBest bottomless brunch
Wow wow wow we tried the bottomless brunch for the first time. It definitely will not be the last. The food was exceptional and you get the whole menu! The bottomless Prosecco was definitely free flowing. They are extending the brunch from the weekend only to Friday as well from May. Booking is essential

Went for a celebratory meal today but was disappointed with the food. Have been in the past and have always been extremely happy.
Service-quite speedy. so not enough time to enjoy drinks.
Our starter came before our drinks although we were the only customer there.
Food - starters - mediocre.
Main- fish curry was disappointing. Some sauce with a piece of fish plonked on top. Paneer makhni was tasteless. Butter Naan was like a flat bread not soft.
We didn’t want to have desert. Not going back there nor will recommend to anyone.
Disappointing as this used to be a top class restaurant.
Amazing food
Stunning meal, excellent service. Very good gluten free provision, I had absolute confidence in the safety of the food. Recommended, and I’ll definitely go there again

Our first visit to GTR to celebrate NYE 2021
An amazing experience from start to finish
Wonderful, delicious food, cooked to perfection
Extremely attentive and friendly staff
Nothing left to chance - it was a perfect evening and worth every penny
Highly recommend- we will be back.
Exceptional
We used to eat at Grand Trunk Road fairly frequently. However, because of the pandemic and because I’m in the extremely vulnerable group, we haven’t been for a while. Today we went with my brother, nephew and partner for the set weekend lunch. It was better than ever and I’d recommend everything we ate. The service was first class. It really is an exceptional Indian restaurant, with every dish distinctive. Couldn’t have been better on a cold Autumn day.

Six of us went there this evening for my birthday, hoping for a lovely, relaxing meal BUT the service from the waiter was absolutely unacceptable it was disgraceful he was very abrupt, rude and impatient. He rudely warned us that we only had the table for 1hr and 45 mins when we asked for a few extra ministers to review the menu, which is usually ample time for us, even though when we booked the table we weren’t given any advance notice of this. We wouldn’t have booked if we were told we were going to be rushed at every opportunity! Food was however great, 10/10 to the Chef (but it really had to be at over £300!!!!) VERY upset from the experience, felt under pressure to order quickly and eat super fast and passed on dessert in case we over ran. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WILL NOT VISIT AGAIN!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing , having read such rave reviews
Great poppadoms and pickles then downhill until great coffee.
We found this overpriced and under seasoned.
My starter was a couple of bland chicken patties/burgers whilst my wife had a sort of curried muesli with blueberries.
For mains I had a very ordinary lamb curry and rice devoid of any veg such as onion, pepper and tomato. My wife had some dry filleted chicken thighs with Tikka spicing.
We shared some curried sautéed potatoes of which only half were fully cooked and a fine Nan and rice.
It was so disappointing and somunlike other upmarket Indian restaurants we have visited and very pricey.
Service and staff were good.
Mineral water at £3.50 a litre was fairly priced.
Does not compare to the Mehgna Grill who stood on this site for at least thirty years
