Quality!
I decided to come back for my birthday at Ginza again, I had THE BEST dinner in a very long time! The quality of the food is always the TOP, very tasty food and lots of attentions in details and flavours! I absolutely recommend this restaurant! I couldn’t ask for anything better. Thanks to everyone who made that night special!

This restaurant is the best Japanese in London. The food is delicious and the service is excellent! The ingredients are of the best quality and they have a good variety of dishes to choose from. The service is prompt, each dish is carefully explained and the atmosphere is elegant and classy. I recommend visiting it if you happen to be around.
Be the first to ReplyNice place good food
Was there for dinner. Tried to find the table for teppanyaki but couldn’t get the table. Food was good. Nice atmosphere and very convenient area near Mayfair London city. Some confusing with the order and a long wait for the food and drinks. Maybe try teppanyaki next time if we could get the seat there.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Japanese food in delightful surroundings.
Really super venue, great food, lovely staff. Absolutely huge downstairs, but still felt quite intimate at the tepanyaki table. Barman upstairs was so lovely and helpful. Really impressed to see an accessible stair lift for those who need it to the downstairs restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyNot good - best to avoid
Avoid this place. We booked the teppanyaki table for a birthday, a party of 5, we were told we can’t allocate the seats; but when we arrived they put us on the corner not directly in front of the cooking area. I asked if we could sit in the vacant seats in the middle. No, we couldn’t, they said: a party of three walked in earlier and specifically requested them. Ten minutes later, it’s a party of two that sit down in those seats, not three, and five minutes after that they clearly didn’t want to be there because they move to another table. It seems like they didn’t reserve those specific seats after all. No wonder the restaurant was half empty on a Saturday night. We move into those seats eventually, but what was the point in not allowing us to sit there - when we told you couldn’t allocate . The teppanyaki is not much of an experience, don’t know why we bothered. It is one course only, performed in a perfunctory manner by a courteous chef. The quality of food here is average - the prices are not. Expect to get stung for subpar food. The first course was inedible. We all left it. The sashimi was ok; a bit hard. The steak was sirloin, not great quality but cooked ok. The staff are surly & self-important, dropping water or wine on you as they flit between seats in haste. We didn’t do the research before going, just wanted a fancy teppanyaki place. We regret going.
Be the first to ReplyTruly authentic Japanese cuisine
My friend and I had a dinner on early Saturday evening and I must admit we were very impressed by the quality of authentic Japanese cuisine executed by passionate and professional chefs. Yellow tail carpaccio and tuna carpaccio were light, colourful and zingy, bursting with natural umami. Perfect way to start the meal as they were light and refreshing without too much saltiness. Sushi selections made with fresh and quality ingredients, we were especially mesmerised by how delicious ika (cuttlefish) was. Absolutely delicious. Wagyu risotto was to die for, the beef literally melted in my mouth and flavour was absolutely exquisite. It would be rude not to order this masterpiece! Fantastic service from knowledgeable staff makes this establishment a perfect venue if you are looking for a place to enjoy a delicious meal. Highly recommended.

I'd give the staff 4 but the food pulled it down a lot. We've spent three weeks holidaying in Japan so we are familiar with Japanese food. The afternoon tea we had was a big disappointment. Presented beautifully, it was a mix of small hot and cold savoury dishes and 3 desserts. The first round of hot dishes were tepid. The staff changed them. The second lot came on very hot plates and were warm but not hot. The crumbed chicken was only overcooked crispy crumb, with no succulent chicken inside it. The wagu burger meat wasn't delicious or particularly fresh tasting, not off but not fresh. The black cod balls tasted only of mashed potato and the nigiri was a lump of salmon and a bit of avocado, wrapped in rice and seaweed, in one lump, rather than cut into small neat slices. Tasty, but not elegant! Chocolate ice cream and silken tofu were good. It could have been a lovely treat but it wasn't.
Be the first to ReplyA must try for Japanese meals
A delightful evening in a friendly and pleasant restaurant. The OMAKASE meal was delicious and expertly prepared with good high quality ingredients and the wine and sake pairing is to be recommended. Looking forward to next time and trying the taste of Japan menu. Thank you for such a delightful evening
Be the first to ReplyToo much sugar and money but no real flavour
We invited a couple of friends to show our gratitude but we regret it wasn’t a good choice. First, food wasn’t impressive. Wagyu miso skewers were more like wagyu flavoured miso skewers. Too much miso which was too sweet, couldn’t taste wagyu and couldn’t see any meat. charging £30 (£15 per skewer) for chunk of sugary miso with a bit of beef fat is not justifiable. Nasu truffle miso was again too sweet, couldn’t taste aubergine at all never mind truffles. Sushi rice was too dry and from the colour I could tell it was cheap short grain rice, might have been cooked at lunch time. On the top of it we were charged 20% service charge. The waitress was nice and we didn’t want to embarrass our guests, we didn’t complain. Overall it’s simply not worth it. I am aware there are various reasons Japanese restaurants in London to charge so much but it was almost shameful to see people eat those sugary terribly expensive food thinking they were authentic. In fact they are just tappers food that would cost one fifth (and better quality) in Tokyo.

Fabulous, I used to go many years ago when was under a different name so I gave it a try…. well I can say that the quality of the food is still outstanding and I spent a really nice anniversary dinner with my girlfriend. Great service we both felt very welcome. Will be back

Be the first to Reply2022 Year End Celebration with Festive Japanese Meal🥢🍣🍤🍶
Festive Menu 🌈Sashimi selection 🐟Hamachi tartare 🦞Lobster tempura 🦐Teppanyaki King Prawn 🥩Dry aged Scottish rib 🍮Coconut silken tofu We started with the fresh and yummy sashimi including Akami, Hamachi, Salmon & Seabass. Then Hamachi Tartare with caviar and truffle ponzu was flavourful🥰🥰🥰 Lobster tempura came after the cold dishes. Personally, I think it’s a bit over cooked but still yummy. Teppanyaki King Prawn was my fav among all hot dishes. King Prawn was well balanced with garlic butter and Yuzu juice. Delicious 😋😋😋 Scottish rib was grilled to medium with full of charcoal flavour. I think medium rare will be much better. Dessert was coconut silken tofu which I would describe as panna cotta. Coconut ‘panna cotta’ was dressed with strawberries, blood orange and Yuzu compote. It’s a refreshing and perfect dessert🥰🥰🥰 @ginzastjames has a range of sake and Japanese whiskey. We chose GARYUBAI GOHYAKUMANGOKU JUNMAI GINJO which was dry, crispy and fruity. Love it🍶🍶🍶 It’s an amazing dining experience @ginzastjames with high quality food and excellent service💕

Be the first to ReplyReal Japanese - Top quality
I have been to Ginza a few times and every time the overall experience gets better and better. The quality of the food is excellent and the presentation is sophisticated, in true Japanese style. I definitely recommend the wagyu tartare and the lobster, they were amazing. You won't be able to find this quality in any other restaurant in London. The staff is very welcoming and professional. The service was spot on and each dish was described to us really well. The waitress was very attentive to every detail, as well as the sommelier who was very prepared and experienced. You have to try it to understand! 10/10
Be the first to ReplyWonderful
Second time at Ginza st James. First on a business meal and after the great experience I have decided to take my partner and chose to be sited on the live cooking counter "teppanyaki". The evening came out to be outstanding with quality food and drinks, a very capable sommelier and a great chef that really shined when his moment came. Love this place and it's now on my top 3 places in London!
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience
Been here for the first time and need to say it was one of the best experience had in the last year. Great quality food, attentive, friendly and full of knowledge staff. Had great cocktails and love the unique tea selection. Will definitely be back
Be the first to ReplyWhen an incredible experience
Went back after a while and was an incredible experience. The sushi and sashimi out of this world, they also make in front of you with an incredible description from the chef him self. The drink outstanding! Alway get negroni and never disappointed. We had a nice evening. Thank you
Be the first to ReplyIt is not Japanese own anymore so not that good
We went there for one of my friend 50’s birthday dinner. I am Japanese and I went there when Japanese person was owning. Taste fried rice no taste, miso soup no dashi taste so drinking like water Beef ok but sauce wasn’t that good Desert for set it was like eating cheap desert. This level of place, should serve real Japanese desert which is really good The rest of appetizer was ok but not wow experience Cocktail was not good Service My partner didn’t receive what we ordered twice. Birthday treat from restaurant they forgot and they try to kick us out after we paid £580 for four of us and we weren’t full First time to bring my partner and birthday friend do there. I was embraced so much and I had six emails before we went there to organised but nothing came right and food was ok but not that much money. Ginza is one of expensive area in Tokyo but normally the taste and service go with what you pay Really disappointing as I loved when it was under Japanese owner I wouldn’t recommend to go back as it is highway rubbery.
Be the first to ReplyPremium location, lackluster food and service
Had a business lunch at Ginza. Great central location, great interiors and setting. Server staff came across a bit unprofessional and too casual. Food portions were small, especially the sushi and sashimi. Fish quality was average. Have had better in London. Frequented by the finance and investor crowd with expense accounts. It's pretty decent, but not outstanding. I would not spend my own money there.
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch
Contrary to other reviews great food great service from all staff. Could not have tried harder to please and the one minor error put right without query or hesitation. Perfectly cooked lamb nice ingredients well presented. You can spend a fortune or have a solid tasty lunch. I'm allergic to fish and they were superb in catering for it. Btw mind the low light fittings over the table ouch :)
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Teppanyaki
We went for a late lunch and sat at the Teppanyaki counter . The chef was charming and engaging and the food cooked to perfection.
Cocktails were good although a bit expensive. Service was excellent. We will return without a doubt.
Awful service
I took a friend here for a special occasion having booked the Japanese cream tea, one needed to be halal. On the day we were told we couldn’t have the menu we had booked but were advised we would get substitutes/extra to make up for this. I should have left then when the waiter said it was all halal (before I pointed out there was pork belly??). We stayed in the hopes they would honour this, but they did not. We did not get any substitutes or alternatives, and at the end my friend even went without a main desert as there was no halal alternative. We weren’t even offered refill tea once through our booking. I feel misled and really unhappy so have complained as it is not cheap.
Be the first to ReplyGinza evening for 3!
The food was not bad but definitely not stunning. We were a group of three for dinner , we ordered a few sushi and bbq and a bottle of sake, it costs £328 . I would say £110 per head for dinner in that location was a bit pricy, I expected £60-£70 per head would be ideal .
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food and service
I visited this restaurant with two friends and had a wonderful evening. From setting foot inside and the warm welcome, the whole experience at Ginza makes you want to return.
The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming with a stylish interior. It has a lovely intimacy despite the chefs creating their magic in full view.
There is a buzz about the place, but this didn’t detract from the feeling that each customer was a valued individual.
The range of dishes are beautifully presented and taste superb. The Edomae Sushi and Black Kanpachi Carpaccio were a particular favourite. The melt in the mouth Kagoshima beef was beautifully cooked and tasted sublime.
The cocktail menu is well worth investigating. We all tried the “Bubbles” cocktail, which was as big on theatre as it was on taste which matched the enthusiasm of the mixologist.
The staff should be congratulated on their attention to detail, professional service and creativity of flavours.
My friends and I would have no hesitation to recommend this wonderful little gem.
Lovely meal here
The food was nothing special so couldn’t give this place 5 stars. Not saying food was awful either but not amazing for me to want to keep coming back and for the prices they were charging it’s not worth that much. The service was Excellent and staff were attentive.
