Felt like Cambridge Mass in Melbourne, more specifically
Felt like Cambridge Mass in Melbourne, more specifically Central Square on a good day, lots of friendly hipsters, plenty of ink but not aggressive amounts, very chill attitudes. I ordered the sweet potato/feta hash with basil, spinach, poached egg, more like two fritters and very good. Wife had the muesli, a bit dry, she asked for some oat milk which improved it. The coffee was diabolically good. Fresh squeezed OJ rounded out this ample breakie. We'll be back for more!

The food is decisively Australian. If you're from the states. Make sure you order the scrambled eggs well done with it I'll come runny. Overall very accommodating and the food was good
Be the first to ReplyWe stopped here for a bit of hangover breakfast.
The place had the usual cafe buzz, but we were seated right away. I had the sweet potato hash with the poached egg. One thing I love about Aussie restaurants is they can properly poach an egg. It's hard to come by in the US.

Earthy and chilled vibe. Solid coffee too. Will come back here and try food next time.

i have come here for years-- what has happened?? it has been my go to for amazing food, welcoming and friendly environment. had such terrible service is begs belief. rude, not interested staff. it's a massive shame. there are so many cafes in melbourne, i hope they become more selective about who represents them in the future.

Food great but such shame the service is awful I have been coming here for years and always loved the healthy and cheap food options. The service here has never been great in all those years I have been coming but I pushed it aside due to the quality of the food. Today I had an awful experience where the manager served me meat with my vegetarian meal without informing me. He refused to take it off the bill and was so condescending to me. Having been a regular customer for the past 9 years I would have thought the least he could do was take it off the bill but he was so outright rude and uncooperative. It has left an awful taste in my mouth.

I stayed at Base backpackers right down the street and always noticed this place was full of people. Decided to come one morning to help my hangover (or maybe I was still drunk who knows). Got the Bloody Mary, fries with aioli, and the lemon and strawberry pancakes. Best Bloody Mary I've had in a while and the pancakes were incredible! Friendly staff and prices were reasonable. Stayed in Australia for 3 weeks and ate out quite frequently and this place was definitely one of my favorites!

I arrived early knowing full well this place gets busy staring from my window at the Airbnb apartment I was staying across the road. There's always something great about the hustle and bustle of St Kilda. Coffee is always the first test and it was delicious my partly Italian heritage is particularly sensitive to poor coffee. It was one of the best coffees I have had. The service was exceptional and my waitress Clarrie (hope I spelt her name correctly ) was both friendly and informative about the local area. I chose to have the eggs Benedict which was topped with a homemade recipe. The bagel was fresh and delicious. Eggs and salmon were both delicious. I always like to add sides and the sweet potato, feta and basil rosti along with the beans in tomato sauce were just the perfect compliment. The second cup of coffee was the same as the first just the right temperature and full of flavour. The menu has variety for both meat eaters and vegans. This place gets busy early even on a Sunday so be prepared to wait if your arriving after 9 on a Sunday. I must try the rest of the menu so I will be back again. Sitting outside on a sunny day in St Kilda made it the perfect breakfast place. Might just have to have another coffee.

Perfect coffees, great simple food, a locals hangout.

So as many of you know I do not cross the Yarra very often so a venture out St Kilda way is worthy of a mention. Meet at Galleon Cafe for lunch? Yeah sure why not. The cafe is a bit like walking into a time warp or jumping into the set of a secret life of us. It is very St Kilda cool and there are people and dogs wandering around everywhere. The menu has some great breakfast options and I like the way you can build from eggs on toast cheaply and without hassle. I had the sweet potato and haloumi salad and it was delicious. To finish off they indulged me in an ice cream sundae and gave me extra topping on the side. This makes it an awesome place to be, I mean who ever gets and says no to extra topping on their sundae :)
