Galit Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
We were seated right away, and shared a menu.
I did think it a bit strange as we were told that there was a QR option to look at the menu that way as well. I would rather we both get a physical menu or we both have to look on our phones. In any event we did the 4 course and added a couple additional items. We got the brisket hummus to start and for the second course we got the other items that were delicious with the naan bread. The third course we each got to choose something so we went with the asparagus, foie gras, and added the Kubbeh Halab. For the main dishes we went with the lamb, turkey shawarma, and the striped bass. Everything was delicious with the exception of the lamb being a little dry and just ok. The pistachio cigar dessert was a great way to end the meal. The service was great and nice to see a Mediterranean spot take on Michelin star here in the city.
They are scammers, be careful.
I had deposited 47000 Usdt not including a 9000 usdt screen profit in my account but they wouldn't allow me withdraw even my deposit. Even after completing the 18 tasks, customer service will never answer you if you have this kind of issues. False hopes and very strategic plans to keep you depositing more money. i got fed up, scared, worried and then I reported to hackadviserpro @ GMAIL COM as advised by a colleague at work. Every penny I deposited was reversed. Any profit they show to you is just on screen, they are not real money please. Beware!
Amazing.
.the whole experience was awesome..food was some of best I have had in Chicago...very comprehensive wine offerings..
This Michelin-starred Mediterranean restaurant is a great
This Michelin-starred Mediterranean restaurant is a great value. Finally made it to Galit for a late reservation and was thoroughly impressed. Wine was notably inexpensive. It's a bit loud inside. Later in the night, it was pleasant once the crowd thinned out. 4% junk fee and mandatory 20% grat on top of that.
First and foremost, the food was incredible.
The kubbeh was the best I ever had, falafel was fantastic, delicious kataifi dessert, and the opening course of pita with hummus and salatim was a true delight. I loved the Foie gras on challah, with a nice hint of cinnamon and smooth Foie gras. The turkey and pastrami mains were novel and delicious, with deep smokey flavor. What really added to the dinner was the impeccable service. Not only was the entire FOH kind and gracious, they really went above and beyond in their hospitality. They even ran a full block after us with our to go bag of food after we'd forgotten it after leaving. They didn't need to track us down, the meal was over, but that extra step really showed how much they cared for our experience. They also added extra pita in our to go bag to finish off our extra hummus! The room was lively, and the open kitchen was a joy to watch. The fantastic smells of smoke, herbs, and spices really set the mood, along with the sounds of the kitchen's well oiled machine of a team. All in all, a great restaurant!
I had high hopes for this modern and highly awarded
I had high hopes for this modern and highly awarded restaurant, but sadly, it didn't live up to its price tag. The sea bass lacked seasoning and the pairing sauce did nothing to elevate its flavor. The hummus was equally disappointing. The braised ribs outshone the hummus. The staff weren't eager to serve or explain the dishes. Restaurant interiors is contemporary but nothing special. The overall experience fell flat.
Very rigid ordering with a fixed-price menu, which did not
Very rigid ordering with a fixed-price menu, which did not provide good value for the price paid.
Insane that this place is so highly reviewed.
Food very hit and miss, portion size infinitesimal, and price despicable. Reservation practices are completely unclear, unscrupulous, poorly worded, and essentially force you into attending. I cannot recall a post Covid dining experience that felt more predatory and deceitful than this one. I grew up eating this food and seeing it so adulterated and price gouged is disgusting. I shouldn't be paying 300+ dollars to eat falafel. Fine service and great ambiance.
Four stars in that I would not recommend / be eager to go
Four stars in that I would not recommend / be eager to go back unless someone was very keen to try it but the restaurant seemed of good quality. The food was mostly good but nothing particularly stood out from a flavor profile. The Foie Gras is the dish that probably lost us. I enjoy foie gras in small portions but Galit serves a massive portion on toast for two people (although very well plated). It was too much. My favorite dish was the pastrami which seems odd coming from a Mediterranean restaurant. The ambience was cool. I recommend the counter seating if dining with two people. The counter faces into the kitchen so you can watch the kitchen work while you dine. Very cool concept for foodies! The service was mediocre. Our waiter was very nice and pleasant. The food runner didn't seem particularly friendly / almost annoyed we were there but maybe she was having a bad day. Also, the restaurant had many open seats but they sat us in a back corner next to a service door which seemed like a bad spot but we did make reservations the same day. In summary, for the price point, there are better &more interesting options in the area. Certainly there are other Mediterranean restaurants I'd recommend over Galit but everything seemed high quality and it was fun to try something new. (For an alternative perspective, my date gave it three stars but fortunately I control the Yelp)!
In general, the restaurant is over-rated.
The food is 4 stars, well-executed but poor composition. However, they failed to time their service. They served our second course before we even finished our first course (minus one star here). We had the brisket hummus, foie gras, bluefin tuna, lamb gorme Sabzi, Walleye, and Kataifi cigar for dessert. The foie gras was one of our favourite but it has way too much jam and overpowers the foie gras (it tastes like peanut butter jam sandwich). We don't like the cinnamon-like flavor (might be the orchid roots?). The lamb tastes dry and also has some bitterness in it that we don't like. The walleye is good , I like two different textures of the fish, but it does not remind me of a middle eastern profile. We like the pistachio "cigar" and the crunchiness outside; however, the sauce is too much and the acid overpowers others.
The best meal I've ever had in a restaurant.
Amazing food and spectacular service in a quaint dining room. It's worth a visit just for the cocktails and bread. The four-course meal consisted of a variety of treats differing in intensity and taste; all delicious, all could be standalone meals. The cinnamon braised brisket in hummus was a standout. My favorites: Spring Pea Tart, Lion's Mane Souvlaki and Malabi for dessert. Every dish in every course was amazing. A plus is this Michelin starred restaurant gives you large portions--we left stuffed. They topped off an incredible evening with an anniversary card and a round of Champaine. Well deserving of their star, they should have a second.
Excellent
The food here is unusual and so good. The service is great. A delightful restaurant all around. Do save room for dessert.
Anniversary dinner celebration
We went to Galit for our anniversary celebration. We had a pretty late-night booking. Some dishes were delicious, some were not so much. We felt the staff members were perhaps tired too! Though they were very nice to give us a card and pack the leftovers for us. This was our second visit and we really enjoyed it last time.
Disappointed with the 2 extra "service charges" for
Disappointed with the 2 extra "service charges" for "benefits" and just "service" I guess? Guess it's hard to make money at $94 per plate.

I have never eaten such good hummus! Everything was sooo good! Great combination of flavors and very vegetarian friendly. Service was quick and kind. Not crowded, well lit place. Recommend! The 94/person is definitely worth the variety and amount of food!
Treated myself to a solo date and it was my first Michelin
Treated myself to a solo date and it was my first Michelin restaurant experience! Highly recommend! The ambience is sophisticated and clean. Staff was so kind and attentive. They offer kitchen counter seating so you have the view of all the action in the kitchen. Counter seating is great for solo dates. To drink, I got the pomegranate soda (spirit free) which was tasty and refreshing. For $94, you get a 4 course meal that will leave you fully satisfied. And they give you a complimentary sesame chocolate chip cookie at the end of your meal! My choices were: 1) Tehina hummus with included salatim 2) Carrots 3) Walleye 4) Phyllo pie Everything I chose was phenomenal - especially the phyllo pie! Overall great experience :)
I've been a long time fan of Galit and have dined here
I've been a long time fan of Galit and have dined here several times in the last few years. The food is always amazing and the ambiance is always welcoming and friendly! When booking reservations through Resy, the restaurant requires a $25 deposit per person to cover for no-shows. This fee is supposed to go towards your bill, but the last two times I've dined here in the last 3 months, the wait staff has forgotten to take the $100 deposit off my bill. Both times we've had to remind the waiter and make them run a new bill for us, which has been disappointing. I'm concerned this is happening to others, and they're not aware that they're paying extra! I'd hate to ever questions the integrity at Galit, but I feel like they need to be better about this given most of the reservations are made with a deposit. If you're new to dining at Galit, don't forget to double check your final bill!
I couldn't add all the photos because there was so much
I couldn't add all the photos because there was so much food! Went with 6 people and the portions were incredible! We all shared and it was more a family style meal. You are able to pick a few different items and the more people you go with the more things you are able to try! The hummus was by far my favorite and I would go back for just this! The ambiance seemed a little simple for a michelin star restaurant, but you can definitely see the difference in the quality of the ingredients they use!
Food was delicious, came out hot and fresh.
Went there on a Thursday and had their holiday pre course. Served was knowledgeable and went through the menu thoroughly.
We ate here for dinner during a work trip, and the ambiance
We ate here for dinner during a work trip, and the ambiance was great for a casual team bonding. So much flavor and quality packed in small plates. My favorites were the creamy hummus and the falafel.
We came here for an early dinner on Saturday night,
We came here for an early dinner on Saturday night, reserved a table for two on Resy with a $50 fee (which goes to the cost of your bill) to prevent no shows, and had a lovely date night dinner at this cozy, romantic restaurant in Lincoln Park. If you would like to dine with less noise, recommend you come in earlier, although by 6-6:30pm the restaurant was completely full. The food came out at a good pace, and we were at the restaurant from 5pm-6:30pm. Our waiter was excellent, and I enjoyed watching the extremely efficient service of the waiters that only brought out your food and described them along with the waiters that cared for the diners. My water never got below half full and our wine glasses stayed full. The kitchen is fully visible if you like to watch the service. The tasting menu has refreshingly good portions, but the price may seem high but it's also for the experience, ambience and the opportunity to try excellent food. Our favorite dishes included the Iraqi Kubbeh Halab, Lobster and Phyllo Pie. For my husband and I, it was our first Michelin star restaurant experience, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Be ready to pay a relatively high price, $94 per person for the tasting menu, in addition to any price of alcohol, and automatic 20% service charge and 3% for employee benefits contribution.
Over the last few years, I've probably had my worst Chicago
Over the last few years, I've probably had my worst Chicago dining experience yet at Galit. While some dishes were great (would recommend the masabacha and lobster), I was dissatisfied with the service and condescending attitude, in particular. 1. Although I was seated promptly, it took 15-20 minutes until my server came over. I was genuinely wondering whether they remembered to assign me a server. I understand that weekend nights are busy, but customers should not have to wait that long for service to start, especially at a restaurant of this standard 2. I personally disliked the sunchokes dish and could barely touch it, as I felt that the sauce had an overpowering bitter, almost "woody" taste of sorts. I let the team know but was essentially told that my palate was not sophisticated enough to enjoy it 3. After the meal ended, I asked the hostess if I could directly leave feedback. She made a face and looked irritated that I had requested to do so; this was evidently very disrespectful to me. While she ultimately directed me to the manager, he too brushed off my concerns. Apart from simple platitudes thanking me for the feedback, they were not apologetic and did not offer anything to rectify the situation 4. The manager eventually reached out over email the following day, but I felt this was too little, too late. You can write that you value my honest feedback, but my time at the restaurant did not reflect this at all. It's telling that they said we are on the "same page in terms of our expectations" but never owned up to not fulfilling them in the first place Considering all of Galit's accolades and otherwise stellar reviews, I was highly disappointed in the overall experience. Hope nobody else goes through the same experience I did!
My family and I stopped in here on a Friday night for
My family and I stopped in here on a Friday night for dinner. We were seated right away and took a look at the menu options. Since the entire tables does the pre fixe, it was pretty easy to pick. We also decided to do the wine pairing as well. We did the Tehina and Masabacha to start, Meze selections were sunchokes, kubbeh, and parsnips, and Main selections were pastrami and mushroom schnitzel. The food great and the flavors were really unique. Though it adds a bit to the price, the wine tasting was definitely worth it. Ambiance is nice. Very modern and bright inside. It's a little noisy inside, so not a place for quiet conversation. Service was pretty good too. Everyone was very friendly and attentive throughout the night. We did have a few pacing issues, where our wine came well before the course or vice versa, but aside from that, we enjoyed! Overall, Galit is a really nice place for a celebration. It's extremely expensive and I will say I expected a bit more service wise from a Michelin Star. That aside, It's well worth a stop in!
Came here for my birthday and absolutely loved it! Amazing
Came here for my birthday and absolutely loved it! Amazing service and food! The ambience also feels very intimate which makes perfect for a date night! Chicago has a variety of Michelin restaurants to explore but loved all the vegetarian options that galit offers. If you are big into wine, I definitely recommend doing the wine pairing! A few of the wines they have for the tasting are only ones you can have at Galit and were some of my favorites! My husband tried the kessel run and saz arak cocktail and loved both as well! We loved the Masabacha hummus. It was creamy and was perfect with the pita. The falafel was phenomenal. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with delicious flavor! The carrots had so much flavor to it we were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked them! I'm usually not a big fan of grape leaves but surprisingly really enjoyed these. The butternut squash and saffron labneh was so flavorful! The mushroom schnitzel was also really good and very filling with the black eyed peas and kale. It has a slight sourness to it but goes very well with the meaty texture of the mushroom. The chocolate cake was SO GOOD and one of the best desserts I've had! Honestly can't believe I forgot to take a picture of it! Coffee, hazelnuts, and cardamom all in one... YUM! Wish this was an item do not share! :) Would definitely come back!
Very enjoyable and tasty set menu.
Fantastic set menu. Every course was enjoyable. Service very good. Priced at a reasonable rate for Chicago. Would definitely go back.
Worth the wait to get a reservation
We had been trying to get a reservation through Resy for a while, and we were not disappointed. All of our food was delicious and our server was very helpful with our selections. It was a delightful dinner overall, the atmosphere was probably the only thing that was lacking slightly. We would highly recommend to Mediterranean food fans.
