A perfect dining experience
This was perfection on every level. Incredible staff: friendly, attentive, knowledgeable. Each of the 8 courses was a masterpiece. Creative and so tasteful. The wine pairing also reached top level. Nice interior with open kitchen. Michelin doesn’t operate in Africa but if they were this place deserves 3 stars.

It is a very good place for almost everything you want to do in a restaurant and the stuff is soooo polite and welcoming, I love their food everything on the menu is appetizing and affordable

Tasting menu with wine pairing, superb setting, Japanese/South African fusion cuisine, it's beautiful, a dazzle for the palate. Cape wagyu, shiso and old carrot / springbox in hazelnut crust, salt-cooked celery root / abalone Malagasy caviar and tamagoyaki / crayfish pot with fermented yuzu pepper... The best gastronomy of our trip, a festival. And an attentive welcome. Well done and thank you

This restaurant was the highlight of our dining experiences in Cape Town !! Everything was superb and absolutely delicious. Course after course of heavenly creations. We went for lunch and were thrilled we did. This is a not to be missed dining experience. Highly recommend.

We had dinner here on our first night in Cape Town and it was exceptional. Everything on the menu was delicious, the presentation of the food was fun without compromising the taste and the service was really good. We have just returned back from a two week trip in South Africa and this was our best meal. Would highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyVery good restaurant in Cape Town
Great food, great wines and the atmosphere is very zen! Must say our waiter was not in the best mood which made our experience a bit less special. But furthermore we really enjoyed the evening as a group and would definitely recommend this place in case your looking for fine dining.
Be the first to ReplyYeah….Nah….something is off at FYN….
On arrival we were seated at the table closest to the waiters service station which is a wooden cupboard where the staff constantly open and close wooden drawers so you have a reverberation through your body as they open and close drawers and remove items from the cupboard. The sound and vibration is akin to having your chair pushed into every 30 seconds. There was a female floor manager, wearing sandals exposing feet ( thought covered shoes were required in food prep and service areas??) who promenaded up and down, up and down. Her vibe was more prison guard than host of a fine dining experience. We caught a number of the staff side- eyeing her as she pushed past them while they were trying to clear to take plates back to the kitchen. Can’t put my finger on it but her vibe was definitely gaoler/school ma’am than host. The kitchen team in the outer prep area were dishevelled. Some wearing Nike caps, some wearing Rip Curl caps, some with no caps, most with stained aprons, no casual glances at the guests. No bonhomie. When Peter Tempelhof arrived with 2 women sucking on take away coffee cups in the prep area, the whole mood declined further. The tension in the air rose. I feel leadership is based on fear not genuine respect and collaboration. The food - well, look, it was ok. Not a mind blowing experience and the weird vibe in the dining space had already unsettled us which does affect the tasting experience. The starter cocktails were not refined and most probably targeted at palates that favour sweetness and IG clicks. The strawberry one was like drinking straight syrup. Yick. I don’t know if it was just an off day, maybe the restaurant shines best at dinner but think the owners need to sit in the guest space and refresh. The scent was off - particularly at table next to service area, no ambient music, no little amuse bouche or touches…..to be honest it all felt very process line.

Be the first to ReplyOne of the very best
An amazing experience. It was a slightly challenging menu, that was maybe missing a crunchy texture through a few dishes, but it was one that was still very good anyway. The bread and creme brulee was one of the best things ive tasted.

After seeing a top 50 in the world rating I knew I had to try it upon visiting Cape Town. The best dining experience ever. Food, beverages, staff, ownership, chef, ambience etc. Everything terrific. A must visit dining destination. Outstanding. Thank you people of Fyn.
Be the first to ReplyTop class dining in Cape Town
Booked on-line 2 weeks in advance after seeing they were in Top 50 worldwide restaurants Luxury dining experience with super service. Great ambience and trendy decor in 5th floor restaurant Full tasting menu was awesome… each course amazing. Accompanying wines brilliant (except the sake which wasn’t my thing!) If you can get a table well worth it for a special occasion… expensive for Cape Town but you get what you pay for.

We tried their tasting menu (regular and pescatarian) with wine pairing. I thought the food and overall experience was okay....not bad, not great. The ambience was nice but no food item stood out for us.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
The restaurant is situated in the Cape Town CBD without parking, and the area feels unsafe to walk at night. We had the 6-course reduced dinner menu and found the food not that great. We have eaten at many great restaurants in SA, UK and Canada and found the food very expensive for the tiny portions given. The ostrich egg chawanmushi starter was a bland custard. The burnt mushroom custard / milk bun second course was quite nice but not exceptional. The best course was the springbok but the two small pieces of meat were really small for the price of the menu. The staff were professional and friendly and the restaurant was full with people seemingly enjoying themselves. We just thought for almost R6000 for 4 reduced dinner menus, one glass of wine, two cocktails and water is very steep compared to other fine dining restaurants in the Cape Town area with better food. The whole experience (food, price and location) was a let down. We won’t be returning and can’t really recommend it

Outstanding experience from beginning to end! Full tasting menu with wine pairing, my mouth went on an unforgettable journey that I’m reliving still a month on. Service and decor delightful

We did the taster menu (this may be the only option possibly) but we absolutely loved it. If you're a "foodie" you will honestly love this place!
Be the first to ReplyAnother must-visit
FYN was a lovely surprise, and another must-visit. Here’s what we liked: Location: The interior is very hip and stylish. You can either sit at the bar and watch the food being prepared (although you don’t have such a good view on the kitchen) or go for a seat by the window and see the Skyline. Food: The food is great! I wonder how they manage to get that wonderful earthy flavour into the burnt mushroom custard. FYN manages to be delicious, sophisticated, and not too expensive at the same time, and that’s rare. What I would change if I could: The sorbet for dessert is delicious but could be a little more exciting. The sweet potato crisps don’t fit in. People: The service was good.
Be the first to ReplyGood but highly overrated, in my opinion
Sometimes when you have high expectations, reality can really take you back down to earth and disappoint. I’m not sure if it was high expectations but we were disappointed by the overall culinary experience here. Service is decent, staff know their stuff and are friendly, it’s a cool setup with an open kitchen and they clear your table well enough after each course. I was annoyed that they didn’t replace our chopsticks after the sashimi course, and proactively asked us to keep them even when I had put them in the dish to be cleared. Pace is also really important when doing a tasting menu as if it’s slow you can get full and also get bored - we were both these things towards the end unfortunately. Don’t get me wrong, the food is very good and the ingredients and quality of cooking is excellent, we just didn’t feel that it was that impressive. I feel the that there are lots of fancy words used in the menu to describe very basic things which can leave you wondering - it was also almost entirely fish / seafood based except the final meat dish, which did feel a bit monotonous. I think the main disappointment for me was that for the only meat dish, we were up sold “wagyu” beef for a supplement (to replace the standard springbok) but the beef we received was definitely not wagyu. I’ve been fortunate enough to have had wagyu on plenty of occasions, including cooking it for myself at home; and this was not it. Wagyu should be marbled, incredibly tender and almost buttery in flavour. This was none of these things - it was a decent piece of meat for sure but it tasted more like a fillet than a wagyu…it was also covered in some sort of salty crust, which if it was real wagyu, would have ruined the meat - this annoyed me! Overall it was decent food, but for the price, and the expectations set, it was a bit disappointing.
Be the first to ReplySuperb but turn down the lights
Incredible food and presentation. But the room is crowded, loud, and lights are way too bright. That really impacted our dining experience in a negative way. But a great place to visit, and a really creative tasting menu.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and wine. Great service in a nice atmosphere
Excellent food. Excellent service. Phenomenal wines. Clearly a place we’ll come back to in future. Brought friends from overseas, they loved it too

Fyn
A well deserved reputation.
Innovative and really tasty food and great wines served perfectly by Jennifer and a very attentive, and pleasant front of house team.
This us somewhere you must try if/when visiting Cape Town.
We would go back in a flash.
Thank you to everyone.
Exceptional
Fyn is located in the middle of town so for your transport, you may want to consider a taxi of Uber. The dining room is on the 5th floor, (partially) giving a lovely view of the mountains. Staff is exceptionally attentive and friendly and personal. All very knowledgeable about wines and foods. And as for the food: it is outstanding! A lot of detail to presentation and taste. We had the 6 course lunch menu with all small bites but certainly enough to make us leave satisfied. Paired with exquisite wines. Eating here was a true treat and i hope to be back in October!
