Frog Hollow Tavern Augusta Reviews
GREAT SPOT - NO PARKING
Have dined at this restaurant previously, but never on a Friday night. There is no parking!!! Had a 6:15 reservation and arrived at location at 5:50, spend close to 45 minutes trying to get a parking spot. Absolutely nothing!! This is a great restaurant, but unless you are lucky, you will be as frustrated as me!!
FANTASTIC FOOD!
This restaurant was a highlight of a driving trip to the South. The dining room was beautiful - white tablecloths on tables, along with booths alongside the wall in the bar. Our service was amazing! We took the recommendation of our server to get the ports chop special - he said it would be the best pork chop we ever tasted - he was right! So tender and wonderful flavor. Splurged and got a wonderful strawberry cake dessert. Great old fashioned and wine! We absolutely loved eating here and will return if we get back to Augusta in the future.

Unfortunately Frog Hollow has become so busy and successful that it no longer cares about delivering a pleasant dining experience. In our last two dinners there the staff has acted like we are putting them out for anything like a refilled drink or extra sauce. The bartender told us the specials while washing glasses and never looked up making it difficult to hear her. They pay 3 hostesses to stand up front but the bar staff is so busy that they can't acknowledge you when you are eating dinner at the bar right in front of them. In fact the male bartender told us they were just too busy to address us when my husband, after patiently waiting as our food got cold, made a Yoo-hoo sound to get their attention for additional sauce. Maybe they should not serve dinner at the bar. The manager walked up and basically didn't care what we had to say. The fish was very good but Sheehan's has much tastier duck.

Made reservations here for a bite to eat before seeing a show at The Miller Theater right down the street. We were seated promptly upon arrival. Our server was excellent and was helpful in making some recommendations and answering any questions we had. We settled on sampling several small plates instead of having a large meal. The wedge salad was delicious as was the Fuji Apple carpaccio. We also ordered a dozen oyster Rockefeller that were quite large and also delicious. The macaroni and cheese was another little side we tried and also enjoyed. It was almost a lasagne style portion... quite interesting. Finally, we ended our meal with a delicious chocolate torte dessert that was topped with whipped cream. It was excellent and had a nice crunch on the bottom from the brûlée sugar. Overall, a truly excellent dining experience that we look forward having again here. A+++ food and service! Thanks for an excellent experience!
not for the average American, just the upper crust .
i can afford to eat anywhere I want to , but jeans and t shirt are low class there.

Great ambiance! Food is top of the line and the service is great too. Get your reservations though and plan to spend a bit of money!!! One of the higher priced Augusta restaurants but we knew it and the food is worth it. We go for special occasions.

It would be really nice if you have on your website, google, yelp, trip advisor, etc that you need a reservation to come to your establishment. My wife and I were visiting from out of town and we had no clue that we needed a reservation. Also the hostess that we encountered that night was not very nice about telling us that we needed reservations.

This review actually was hard for me to do as the food and wait staff were wonderful. This was an after work dinner with friends who are avid foodies and love to try new places in Augusta at least 1-2 times a month. I was the first to arrive last night and was told even with a 6:30 reservation, I had to wait for the rest of the party of three to arrive to be seated. Very understandable, we ended up arriving between 6-8 min before and after the reservation time. I was surprised however that other diners arrived and were shown to their parties that were obviously seated at different times. The waiter was great, his recommendations for appetizers and drinks were spot on. The tea hive was lovely. Service was smooth, and I loved the fact that he knew the menu like the back of his hand. Shortly after the appetizers came out I received a phone call that a colleague was able to join us and because of how close the hospital is to the restaurant, he was there in 6-8 minutes. Due to the fact that we were seated at the front of the restaurant, after a few seconds at the hostess desk he joined us at the table. Before we had official finished the initial hello among the four of us we were rudely interrupted by a member of the hostess team that disrespectfully informed us that he was not allowed to eat and not allowed to order anything. The three of us were shocked about not just what she said but the way she said it. He simply stated that he had been in to eat there before but would not be returning. She continued to say that the only way he could eat is if one of us 3 would order his food on our bill. I was embarrassed because of her lack of decorum. Our waiter immediately attempted to rectify the situation and our colleagues food came minutes after our original 3 entrees arrived to the table. Of course the scallops were just as good as the Mac and cheese and the andouille sausage but I had already lost my appetite and had the waiter pack my food so I could just take it home with me. So that there were no other opportunities for this young lady in the striped shirt to HUMILIATE our party we paid with one check. The conversation that had been enjoyable for the most part disintegrated into other examples of poor customer service which left a sour taste in my mouth. As good as the food was, it is a shame that I really have to think twice before going back or even recommending Frog Tavern as a choice of meal. Which of course is a shame because the food is really really good. While the food is important so is the overall experience and being spoken to as if we were not worthy of civility is not worth my dime..
Best meal / service I've had in Augusta, GA.
Get reservations because they fill up fast.

The food was good but the service was uptight and they gave such importance to the food at a sacrifice to the guests and the amosphere. I wish I could recommend it but I can't.
I made a reservation here to celebrate the holidays based
I made a reservation here to celebrate the holidays based on what I had heard about the place from my colleagues. The place itself is quite charming, and the wait staff is knowledgeable and attentive. I would say that I found the food a bit lacking, considering the hype for fresh farm to table and fresh seafood. I was hyped up by the wedge salad which had a great and fresh bleu cheese. Then we had ordered their unique mac and cheese which appeared like a mac and cheese lasagna. Unfortunately my main course failed to impress me. My bouillabaise was more dull than I expected, and the Striped Bass may have been overcooked and didn't taste fresh or flaky, it was almost waterlogged but still kept its form. The soup portion almost lacked full tomato flavor and was not to my expectation of a bouillabaise. I did get to try one of the diver scallops and it was well cooked but was missing the sear, maybe I had a slighly underdone one? The risotto underneath was quite boozy and may just not be for me. The vegetarian option the Harvest Farroto was tasty and probably the best thing I tried with a pleasant unexpecting apple for every few bites. Everyone else really enjoyed their cocktails and food and I enjoyed my time, but I guess I need to give it another shot when it's less busy to see what the food quality can be.
We needed to kill an hour and found this place.
It was our time, and we were able to sit at the bar. We got service immediately. Our food came out surprisingly fast and was so fresh and delicious. My husband and I enjoyed every moment of this flavorful, great seasoned food and the ambiance it had. Yes, it is pricey, but we got the small plates, which were perfect for us and the limited time we had. Definitely recommend it and will come back with more time.
A Sad Best, at Best
If this is the best Augusta has to offer... well it's rather sad. I had the pork shoulder, collards & mac n cheese. Both the pork shoulder & collards had added sugar & I thought the mac n cheese was good, but mushy. Also, the wine list is a bit skimpy for wines by the glass. I'm not saying this is a bad restaurant. But I've been to burger joints that are better candidates for "Best".
Pork Hollow
Pork Hollow! Pork in 99% of dishes. If you don't / can't/ won't eat pork, avoid this restaurant. I ordered an entree with no pork in the description. Yet it was loaded with pork. The entree was swordfish and the addition of pork made it taste like a pork chop. It was horrible. And the manager was indifferent.
Misinformed by wait staff
Went there this evening for a rehearsal dinner and ahem near told the cost. When the check came I was charged $75 per person and my wife only had a salad. The manager said that the waitress should’ve told me that there was a $75 per person charge no matter what she ate. Meaning if she ate nothing she was still being charged. This is ridiculous as being in the restaurant business you do not charge someone who does not partake. They said I can come by and get another dinner the next day. Never again
An amazing anniversary dinner!
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary on a lively Friday night. Our server Ben was absolutely perfect. He started our evening telling us more about Augusta and the local history as this was our first time in Augusta. His descriptions of the menu items were spot on, and we appreciated his insights as well. We started by sharing the Andouille sausage (absolutely amazing) plate and a dozen roasted oysters. Wow! What a start to our meal. My wife had the brined and marinated double pork chop and I took Ben's recommendation for the Diver scallops. We added the "best mac 'n cheese in Georgia" as a side, and our main courses did not disappoint. The chop was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the scallops melted in your mouth. Oh, and the mac 'n cheese lived up to the billing. We concluded our meal with the cheesecake and chocolate torte, which were both fabulous. Throughout the meal Ben was perfect, present at the absolute right times and adding exceptional service. We will be back on a future trip to Augusta!!
A delicious dining experience
A delicious experience! We were greeted by friendly hosts who went above and beyond once we realized our reservations were for the following week!! They were gracious and accommodated our party of four. The eggplant fries appetizer were perfect - crunchy and light. Two of us had the bone in pork chops with Mac & cheese and collards. Everything was simply delicious. The Mac & cheese was hearty (think lasagne). The other two had seared scallops over creamy risotto. Only favorable comments. And as if that wasn’t enough food, we ended the meal with cheesecake, apple crisp and a crème brulle. Again, delicious (although the brûlée was a bit too thick for our tastes. But that may be a preference. Our server, Chidi, was the BEST. She guided us and made some excellent recommendations. Wonderful evening!
Wonderful evening!
We had a fabulous experience at Frog Hollow Tavern. Our server, Brian gave us excellent service. He was knowledgeable about the menu, courteous and helpful. The food was amazing! We shared a wedge salad which was fresh, cold and had a great dressing that was not overdone. My husband had the roasted chicken and I had the ricotta gnocchi. Both were delicious! We also had the apple crisp which was divine and i rarely eat desserts. We look forward to our next trip to Augusta to come back!
Definitely worth the splurge!
Excellent choice for dinner after a day of driving and playing tourist...especially if you are staying next door the Hyatt House. Trendy, casual atmosphere with excellent service and delicious farm-to-table offerings. The andouille sausage appetizer (completely made on-site) was outstanding! Our waiter, Ben, took his time explaining the menu and clearly knew what made each item worthy of its place on it. And when we asked for a To Go box, he whisked the plate away and returned quickly with our tasty leftovers already packaged up in a container, which had been labeled with the contents, date & restaurant's initials. A small detail that only takes seconds to do, but sets a place like this apart from other restaurants. It's a bit pricy, but then again, you get what you pay for...and this place is worth the splurge!
One of the best dining experiences ever.
My husband and I went for dinner with friends. Fritz was our server and we had one of the best dining experiences ever. The food was delicious. We shared several appetizers including arancini and eggplant fries. I ordered the poulet rouge and my husband had the butcher steak. Both were expertly prepared. We also shared desserts including creme brulee and cheesecake. Again, both were decadent and satisfying. Fritz kept us laughing throughout and was very attentive and professional, as was everyone who helped serve our food. It was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had.
My favorite restaurant in Augusta.
I still think about their filet often. I think it rivals the best steakhouses in Atlanta!

Reservations were easy to make, service was excellent the waiter was attentive but not bothersome, the menu is limited it's not nearly as large as what is listed on their website, all the food was cooked to perfection, the ambience was ok we had a good time and the food was excellent and reasonably priced

It's really good 4 times out of five, which is why four stars. The last time we were there it was freezing inside, the service was very spotty, and the food just ok. BUT the other four times it was terrific. We will try again.

I made reservations for a group of ladies and the restaurant did not disappoint. We tried several specialty cocktails and different appetizers, meals, and sides! We delighted in the fact that EVERYTHING was delicious! We had mussels, scallops and pork belly, and oysters for appetizers. The ribeye was juicy and cooked to order, the pork chop was tender, and the shrimp and grits was divine. Our server was Josh. And he made us feel so welcomed! He was patient as he explained the menu and the specials of the day. He answered a plethora of questions as we decided on our meals. He made sure our water was filled without asking and made sure we didn't need anything! He also had friends to help clean the table between the appetizers and the entrées. They did this with ease!Because there were so many of us, it was important we were in an area we could converse without interrupting others. We were. It was nice lighting and clean atmosphere. I will definitely be back. Thank you, Frog Hollow Tavern!

If you're familiar with the downtown area, than you already know that there is street parking nearby. The decor is a stunning mix of vintage luxury and modernity. This establishment is considered an American restaurant based on their menu, and they've got a full bar with many wines available. It's does have kind of a small space, but every table does provide enough space between other guests. I'd highly recommend to make reservations first, because they do not have a large bar or a waiting area. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouthwatering starters and main courses that will appeal to everyone. When we arrived at our reservation time, we was quickly greeted by a friendly and courteous staff and seated immediately. Our waitress very professional and explain some of their menu specials for the evening. She was very friendly and patient with us, as we decided on what to order since it was our first experience visiting this business. Everything we ordered came out very fast and was well seasoned.Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. The chefs use the best quality ingredients to produce dishes that are simply delightful. The restaurant also offers a wonderful drink menu, and they offer one of the best wines in the region. This was definitely a great dining experience, and I'm positive that we will be back in near future when we visit this area again.

This is one of the best places to eat and drink in Augusta, Georgia. It is only open 4 days a week but it is always packed. The dishes are a variation of traditional dishes with a wonderful twist. You can find a little bit of every type of dish. You will be delighted with a long list of wines and a great bar. Don't forget to save room for dessert. Service is superb especially for special occasions.
Food was delicious and the service was excellent.
It was a birthday celebration and we really enjoy ourselves.
Flavorful and original dishes
Not from Augusta and my mom was in town. This place was highly recommended here on TA so we went on Saturday night. My mom's porkchop was delicious and the small plates I ordered burst with flavor, along with my delicious 1792 bourbon old fashioned. Definitely going back!
Probably one of the best restaurants in Augusta.
There aren't very many good places to eat out here. I guess I'm spoiled coming from Vegas haha. Frog Hallow Tavern was delicious! We got steak. The service was amazing too!

WOW! My wife and I came in for Valentine's Day and had an absolutely fantastic experience. They start by seating you in the lounge while waiting for a table and give you a cocktail list while you wait. I had a unique Fernet and Bourbon based cocktail and the wife got an earl gray tea cocktail - both were wonderfully crafted and delivered promptly at a crowded bar.The service was fantastic. Even though the place was slammed, our server was very attentive and checked on us frequently to top off wine and water. We ordered the French Onion Soup, Simple Salad, Heritage Pork Chop with apple and sweet potato hash, pork shoulder with Mac and cheese and collard greens, and ended with apple crisp and crème brûlée. Every dish was better than the last, full of flavor and plated beautifully. Now, this is more of an upscale spot, but for what you pay, they FEED you. You will not go home hungry. We've paid much more for much less food. The higher dollar amount in this case does not mean scantily plated dishes with elf portions. While it's likely the "nicest" spot in downtown, and it did certainly feel like an elevated dining experience, it did so without feeling stuffy and imposing. Will absolutely be back for another date night.

If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience in downtown Augusta, then look no further than the restaurant I had the pleasure of visiting on Valentine's Day. This establishment truly exceeded my expectations in every way imaginable.First and foremost, the service was absolutely outstanding. Every member of the staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with a warm welcome and made to feel like VIPs throughout the entire meal. Our waiter was especially helpful in guiding us through the menu and making suggestions based on our tastes and preferences.Speaking of the menu, the food was nothing short of fantastic. Every dish we tried was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. From the appetizers to the entrees and desserts, everything was top-notch. The Valentine's Day specials were a real treat, and the chef clearly put a lot of thought and effort into creating a menu that would delight guests on this romantic occasion. The ambiance of the restaurant was dark and fancy, which created a truly special and intimate atmosphere. The decor was sophisticated and elegant, which added to the overall ambiance. The lighting was just right to create a cozy and romantic mood, which was perfect for Valentine's Day.And let's not forget the drinks! They were not only delicious, but also very esthetically pleasing. The bartender was clearly very talented and took a lot of pride in creating unique and tasty cocktails.Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. From the excellent service and outstanding food to the intimate and luxurious ambiance, it's clear that this establishment is truly committed to providing an exceptional dining experience. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a memorable night out, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

How does one describe the best all around restaurant in the CSRA? That's right I said it. Frog Hollow is my top choice and recommendation. Not only is it upscale dining, but it is consistently good. They also have delicious drink options for those over 21. The tea hive is one of my favorites, but I also love a good glass of Merlot. Looking for a spot to celebrate or just experience one of the best meals of your life? Look no further.
Fantastic restaurant for a night out.
Sausage appetizer and pork chop were both delicious. Good value for sizes of portions as well.
Best Birthday
Took my mother here for a birthday dinner. Service was exceptional (Josh) was awesome. Food was spectacular. Loved the way they did my mom's birthday - low key and celebratory. This evening reminded her of her monthly evenings out with a friend back in the day.
2 Birthday celebrations
I made the reservations at this restaurant based on the reviews in Trip Advisor and they were spot on. The food is out of this world delicious. I had the vegetarian dish and it is rare that i get one that is that well crafted with flavor and texture all put together. Others in our group had the porkchop special, shrimp and grits and Cioppino and everyone thought their dish was delicious. It did take a little long to get our dishes but was worth the wait. The concept is farm to table so the menu changes seasonally and it sourced locally. Price is reasonable for this type of quality. We had a wine with dinner and it seemed to go well with the food. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great place for date night!
Love Frog Hollow, one of the best in town. They need to bring back the pork shoulder dinner though (fantastic!)
Wow! Really fantastic spot in Augusta.
This was the best experience that we had while visiting the area. The food and service were outstanding. Our servers were Rachel and Michelle, both of them were fantastic and super helpful with the menu and choices. Every single person working in this restaurant was busy doing something, no one was standing around bored or not engaged. That is on management, which I didn't catch her name but she was constantly doing her rounds and making sure everything was going well, also super sweet. They are doing a fantastic job of training their staff and it is a wonderful thing to see. The food here was superb. My wife said it was the best scallops she's ever had in her life, which is saying a lot because she is extremely picky about her food. I had the pork chop and that thing was the biggest slab of pork I've ever seen, super tender and came with a side of harvest vegetables, also really good. This place really does everything right. It fills up fast and you should make a reservation if you are serious. This would be my go-to restaurant if I lived in Augusta, just can't beat the service or the food. Go check it out, make sure you save room for dessert.
Dinner Disaster
Had reservations at 7:00pm. Table not ready…..sat at bar and ordered drinks while waiting for table. They then asked us to moved outside or somewhere else so people coming in for the bar had a place to sit. Keep in mind we were drinking their bar drinks while sitting at the bar. They then put two tables together in a very noisy area because tables were reserved in the quieter area. What happened to our reservations?? They should have put us there. Very poor management…..would never recommend this place. Arby’s would be better! It is now 46 minutes pass out reservation time and we are still waiting to be seated where we should have been put in the first place. Have little hope for the meal to come.
