Be the first to ReplyExquisite
Friends who had visited Paris earlier in the year recommended this restaurant and we went to celebrate my mother in law's birthday and had the most exquisite meal. Everything we tried was so delicious and the service was of the same high standard as the food - very attentive and helpful. The wine our waiter recommended was a perfect pairing for our meal.
Be the first to ReplyUnique and amazing
We dined at Frenchie for the chef’s tasting paired with the premium wine selections. There are two seatings per evening, and we were there for the first. Reservations are not easy to get, and the price is fairly steep. However, the experience was very memorable and a highlight of our trip to Paris. The restaurant’s decor is simple, not at all “fancy,” but comfortable. Our table gave us a partial view into the kitchen. I must say part of the enjoyment of dining here is watching how the well the chefs work together—it’s like watching a well choreographed performance. While very busy, all chefs seemed calm and in command of their duties. The food is unique and delicious, consisting of multiple courses that are well described by the server. While each course seems deceptively light, by the time the meal is over, you’re stuffed. My only comment is that because there are multiple courses and limited time per seating, there were a few times I felt a bit rushed (for instance, not finished with one glass of wine before the next selection was poured). The food was superior to the wine served, which was only average considering the price of the premium pairing. Nonetheless, I would recommend this restaurant if you enjoy fine innovative dining.
Be the first to ReplyElevated French Food that Hit the Spot!
The venue is small and intimate. Not very charming—their wine bar across the alley has more of a vibe. But the food was fantastic. It was supposed to be 5 courses, but with all the little extras, it actually turns out to be 2 courses. Each dish was beautifully presented and most had different components. They poured sauces onto our dishes at the table, which was nice. The meal was worth the price tag of $140 Euro. We ate seafood, lobster tail, and duck. The selection was spot on and the flavors matched all of my usual favorites. The matcha dessert was heaven. I love matcha. The meal was elevated and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t recommend it enough. It’s still on my mind! Pictures on my insta @loveinmybelly.
Be the first to ReplyAmerican heavy, but good food
Like a west village NYC Resturant, but in Paris. If you want to dine with what seemed to be exclusively Americans, then Frenchie is a good spot. That said, the food is pretty good, the service was at least for us friendly but also very absent at times, our issue is that it is a very American Resturant that reminded us of the places we often go in NYC. If you have limited time in the city, and you want to dine in more authentic Paris surroundings, then look elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyMissed Expectations
Visited Frenchie with my family, and this may be controversial, but our visit left us with mixed feelings. The space is intimate, meaning somewhat cramped. The service was commendable and friendly. But the dishes although visually appealing, fell short of expectations. In a city brimming with excellent dining options, regrettably, we won't be returning.
Be the first to ReplyFRENCHIE has lost its French touch
FRENCHIE has lost its French touch. I wish I had read all the reviews before booking because I feel the same way-disappointed ! Three weeks wait to book for an anniversary dinner and then you find out there are two seatings in one night at a French Michelin restaurant ? What’s the next step? Self service? This is a place for tourists now, one visit and you are done. No lingering over your pre dinner cocktail or after dinner drink, you are rushed the whole time because a second sitting is waiting. The food was good but not memorable. Our first course of tomatoes was good although the wine pairing was totally wrong for the dish. There are two wine price levels and in any decent restaurant in France all the wines are quality wines. In the regular pairing none of the wines are over 20 euro a bottle retail. The entire restaurant was having the only choice, 140 Euro tasting menu so it was an automatic flow of service. Don’t linger. The staff felt like they were selling you real estate, asking constantly if the dish was good. The end of the meal was a disappointing chocolate and red pepper cake. I scooped out the red pepper part and the waitress seemed unhappy about it. In a non French move, you are quickly brought the bill without asking for it, and upon looking at it, my husband saw we were billed for an extra aperitif and four wine pairings instead of two. No real apology from the staff, « mistakes happen ». We were tempted to tell the large group of Japanese tourists to check their bill carefully. No sight of the chef the entire night, not a personable experience. Just a restaurant that was good but has lost its vision with the Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food in a tiny restaurant
Simply superb evening here with great food and very friendly staff. It’s a surprise 5 course tasting menu that we loved. Also opted for the accompanying wines. It only holds 22 people so it’s cosy! We sat at the counter which is actually the prep area for the chef so it’s was even better
Be the first to ReplyConsistently top notch
This is the third time we’ve been to Frenchie and it is still one of our favorite restaurants. Service was attentive and friendly. Seating is tight but that’s the norm. We did the wine pairing and the wines were really excellent. The food courses were super tasty - the foie gras in particular. One bit of constructive feedback - the dough in the langoustine dumpling seemed a bit gummy and undercooked. But everything else was top notch. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyOne of our best meals ever
We have been fortunate to eat at many incredible restaurants in our travels. My fiancé is a chef & restaurant owner & we were looking forward to this meal. The outstanding service, wine knowledge, incredible courses. Perfection. We were thrilled to be seated at the “chef’s table” which are the 2 seats at the bar. We loved watching the preparation of our meal. We also ate at a “top 50 restaurants in the world” today for lunch in Paris and although it was good THIS restaurant … it is a MUST!! Merci beaucoup for the memories.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding
I’d picked this restaurant to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and truly hoped it would meet my expectations; it surpassed them and more. With friendly, knowledgeable staff who took us through the flavours and the wine pairing, the meal was a joy with each of the courses being unique and expertly presented. We ate the five course tasting menu, and opted to take the premium wine pairing. While expensive, this was a one time only for us and we came away feeling like it was truly worth it.
Be the first to ReplyLate Sunday Dinner
We put our name in and had an hour and a half wait. We we returned, we still had no seat, Understandably busy. We were seated outside across the alley way. It smelled of rotting fish. We came inside to find two seats at the bar, which we took. The bartender,Jack, never made eye contact and was obviously rude. Our food was served and we had to use bar napkins. We were never addressed. After our meal I asked our server his name, Jack, and I introduced ourselves. I asked Jack why he had been so rude. Jack informed me that we had not liked our first wine, we paid for and drank, and that we had moved from our outside seats. We were never asked or comforted about any of this. The entire staff was rude and completely ignored us. Such a disappointment to such a lovely visit to France. P.S. food was delicious staff was undeservingly rude.
Be the first to ReplyVery deceiving for all the energy to book
So many better restaurant in Paris with better service Very disappointing after all the efforts to book We share this review and opinion with the couple seating next to us Food is good but not fantastic Service is awful .. expéditive, it feels like they are repeating the same old thing to everyone and staff look exhausted of it .. def not what we expect .. go for other adress without Michelin star way better !
Be the first to ReplyFun Dinner
We are repeat visitors to Frenchie and we've had incredible meals there in the past, this time it was fun and creative but not as delicious as some of the meals we've had there. We like the fact that it is casual and the food is so out of the box - some of it was very fussy - but tasty -- and the staff explained each course with specificity. The fish course was especially delicious. The tomato water was a revelation. And of course, since it's fig season in Paris desert revolved around figs. We skipped the wine pairing but did enjoy the wine we got (although after pouring my husband the first pour to taste, the sommelier filled everyone's glass except my husband's and rushed off and we had to call him back to finish the job). The price has gone way up (I think it was 85 E last time and 125 this week) since we ate there last in October 2019 but with the dollar so strong it may have been less expensive for us than the last meal.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
We were thoroughly underwhelmed by this experience. Perhaps it was because we had the first seating at 6:30pm, but the dining room was all Americans. It was a warmer day in Paris, and the dining room was just as hot making for an uncomfortable dinner. They did turn on a floor AC unit/fan which essentially blew into my husbands back and never reached me. On to the food, it is a 5 course tasting menu with optional wine pairing. There were two wine pairings offered and we selected the more expensive, rarer wines choice. Wines were good, but the pours were so small (2 ounces or less) that we often finished the wine before the course it was paired with arrived to our table. Not worth the price tag in my opinion, we should have just ordered a bottle. Our first course included some sort of cheese puff which was the best thing we ate all night. After that, the food was honestly just average though beautifully plated. Not sure how this place has a Michelin star and needless to say, we won’t return.
Be the first to ReplyThey cancelled our reservation at the last moment. We changed our plans in Paris for this and then had nothing.
They cancelled our reservation 2 days before our dinner and then it was too late to make other great reservations. We changed our plans in Paris for this experience to be left with nothing. A complete disaster.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome Restaurant in a cool neighborhood
This was by far my favorite restaurant we ate at in Paris. The food was excellent. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming. I would highly recommend this place as a must eat when visiting Paris
Be the first to ReplyUninspired dining with kitchen hubris
We had a special meal booked hoping for a lovely dining experience with my wife and 2 adult daughters, but were entreated to a pomposity that was staggering. Traffic in Paris is debilitating and we were circumnavigated by an Uber driver who had us delayed. We were admonished by the staff that our unacceptable tardiness would result in a downregulation in our course number and they spent over 15 minutes remonstrating with us for being late. We were not offered a drink before they dropped a 3 piece bread basket(we were 4 people) and then ran us through a concatenation of food that varied from bland to picturesque but flavourless. I had a much more flavourful meal on Air Canada business class a few nights before. We were told the chef was “not prepared” to provide us our courses more rapidly as there must be some apparent magic involved in the preparation. Sadly pretentious presentation does not make fine food. Taste is the litmus and here they did fall so short of what would be expected from any establishment of some calibre. This experience is a reminiscence of previous decades of attributed arrogance to French cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyArrogant service, bland pretentious food
We went to Frenchie last night for dinner and am still upset this morning by the arrogance of the service. Had the food been worth the money or the effort I may have given them a pass but the food was bland and pretentious. We flew into Paris in the morning for a milestone birthday for me- I wanted to celebrate with my two daughters and husband and we chose Frenchie and booked when the booking window opened. Sitting was booked for 6.30pm and it appears that they have a second sitting at 9pm. Our daughters arrived on time but we were delayed due to a series of unfortunate events. The airline had lost our luggage so we turned up in Paris with very little- I had not anticipated celebrating my birthday in the clothes we had travelled in so made a quick stop into Gallerie Lafayette for a change of underwear and a new top to wear on my birthday. The Uber cancelled on us, we waiting 30 minutes for the next person who got lost twice on the way (1 star review for him too!), and finally made it to Frenchie by 6.55pm. On arrival instead of being offered the wine list and a smile we were greeted with "you're late and you're only getting four of the five courses on offer". We asked the waiter if he could please accommodate us as this was my birthday celebration and there had been a lot of stress during the day. No way! The chef was not prepared to rush his creations- never mind that the people paying would have been quite prepared to move a little faster through the menu. I could just have easily lived without two of the three offerings for dessert and had the missed starter instead. So on to the food- we have eaten at many Michelen restaurants and this was the least impressive. The tuna starter was so bland that I asked my husband if I could ask for salt- he said no!! The two mains were ok- the chicken was bland and the vegetables raw (not al dente, but hard to cut and cold) and the fish was pretty good but in a hard to eat-from bowl with a broth with no spoon. We all fished out the beans with a fork but it was inconvenient and a waste of one of the only flavourful parts of the meal. All in all, a huge disappointment but mostly due to the inflexible nature of the wait staff and chef who are more concerned with their cooking and serving than actually making their guests feel valued and cared for. Just so that they don't feel that this was an unbalanced review, they did offer us a small coupe of champagne on the house to make us feel better (which it did not, as the damage was done). This will most certainly be a one off - never again Frenchie. We will stick to the many other Parisian restaurants that still put their customers first.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing every time
4th time at this restaurant over the past 10 years. They continue to find ways to impress with culinary innovation. Incredible meal and very accommodating of dietary restriction. Can’t wait for my 5th time
Be the first to ReplyVery Nice Evening
Girlfriend and I had the five course tasting menu with wine pairing. The dinner was excellent, with each course and accompanying wine selection were explained for ingredients and wine origin. This was our second time in a couple years having had dinner here, and Greg Marchand's crew haven't missed a beat. If you go, reserve the second seating at 9:00 pm, and you'll have more time to enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyWine Bar as a substitute
We were placed on the reservation waiting list for dinner at Frenchie but unfortunately didn’t make the cut. However, we did get seated across the street at Frenchie’s wine bar. The small bites was good and the wine was excellent. I normally don’t drink red wine however received a really good Pinot Noir. I also bought a bottle to bring home. I did not like our seats near the toilet though and the waiter was good but not great.

What becomes of a meal deferred?
Like Langston Hughes and his dream, I am only left to wonder. I made a reservation at Frenchie as soon as they were available for our date and had a confirmation email of my reservation. I also confirmed the reservation weeks later when requested and had a confirmation email for my confirmation.
Believing we were all good to go, we set out for Frenchie looking forward to a highly acclaimed Michelin-starred meal and arrived promptly before our reservation time. Upon our arrival, we were informed that our reservation did not exist and must have been cancelled to some vague fault of our own.
Perhaps, it was a simple misunderstanding. Or, perhaps there were intentional machinations at play; I can note that we weren’t the only guests bumped that evening. Maybe it was just sheer incompetence. I cannot say. Whatever the reason, I can tell you two things for certain: 1) documentation of our reservation and confirmation did not matter; and 2) we received no phone call, voicemail, text message, email, postcard, telegram or any other type of acceptable form of communication in the past century from Frenchie.
It made me wonder: has this happened to any prominent restaurant critics? Moreover, could Chef Marchand even secure and hold a reservation at his own restaurant?
If you, dear reader, happen to snag a Frenchie reservation, bon appétit! Proceed with caution and keep your hopes in check. But if you also find yourself kicked to Frenchie’s lonely curb on Rue du Nil, I recommend not accepting that compensatory glass of wine and, instead, drowning all of your sorrows in a great bottle of cider and all the crepes you can consume at Breizh Cafe. They were kind, accommodating and certainly much more economical, so celebrate the euros you have saved! Or, if you’re a devoted glutton for punishment and associate culinary perfection with painfully competitive reservation processes, then I can attest that Septime both delivers a memorable meal and honors their reservation system.
Disappointment aside, there are far weightier issues in the world than having a fine dining experience at Frenchie. Next time, I will put my time, energy and money towards a more worthwhile cause.
Simply wonderful.
This was undoubtedly the best meal we had in Paris. This is not typical French food, but the flavors will not be unfamiliar. The five course tasting menu was spectacular. The wine pairing is wonderful as well. Though on the pricey side, this will be an unforgettable meal.
Be the first to ReplyA must visit… if you can get a reservation
An absolute 10 out of 10 on the food, atmosphere and service. The food was magical with every bite of every course making you want more. Our service was very attentive and courteous, a very friendly atmosphere.
