Amazing food, absolutely delicious.
The restaurant is definitely on the pricier side but worth it in my opinion.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a really nice time here.
The staff was super friendly and we enjoyed the carrots and the halibut with artichokes among other things. I'd like to come back soon!

The clearest sign of an overheated economy? $12 for bread and baguette to start the meal (even if the baguette was baked next door with a lovely crunch). My omelette was a well executed French omelette with a nice degree of fluffiness, although I prefer the sharper cheeses that Balthazar employs. Zero qualms about the fries. Probably would skip the charred carrots with yogurt next time - I think they could have been a bit more gutsy in their charring to bring out the sweetness.

we love a great french restaurant!! steak frites was amazing, so well cooked. sweetbreads was amazing and chicken was so juicy and tender. also not stuffy at all, very trendy and overall great time. will definitely come back

Food was over the top delicious. Atmosphere really fun. Service was over the top. Thank you Frenchette for the perfect evening

Frenchette is one of my favorite spots in the city for a splurge. I'd suggest saving it for a big night (thinking birthday, anniversary) so, when the bill comes, you remember it was worth it. Service is delightful, check your coat and cares, and head to your table in the sultry lit back room for good food and fun. The food is the full range of French--you can do something light or dangerously heavy. I strongly suggest sharing everything among the table. The menu changes constantly so I recommend getting your server's recommendations, but avoid the "standard" brasserie fare here. Duck frites you can have lots of places. I'm sure it's good, but go off the beaten path a little and you'll find a delightful take on many a classic. The wine list (although pricy) is top tier, natural, French, and something for any taste (Domaine La Boheme is my taste and they have it). Dessert is also a must. Importantly, they have a really cool after dinner drinks program focused (a bit) on l'eau de vie. It'll help the hearty meal go down. I recommend the Never Too Heavy if they have it kicking around still.
Be the first to ReplyReally great service here, very nice and friendly staff.
Food is absolutely delicious and portions are huge. The crowd looks like a neighborhood crowd and didn't feel stuffy. I would absolutely come back! Had the fish soup and the gnocchi which was extremely light and airy. The chocolate mousse was insanely good and rich, the crunchy bits were a bit salty which finished out the decadence of the chocolate, divine!
Be the first to ReplyWe went to Frenchette for lunch during restaurant week.
Cute bistro with a parisian feel. Service was excellent and ambiance is hip and young. Why three stars? Food was regular portion which was large. For all the great reviews and James Beard award, just expected it to be spectacular. We had soup and gnochi for appertizer, ordered the baguette for 12$ which should be complimentary. Main dishes were duck cassoulet and the skate, nothing memorable. dessert was also ok. Probably won't be returning but worth a try.

We had lunch at Frenchette based on a 6 year old review by Pete Wells, which deemed the food mostly -- not entirely -- excellent but overall it seemed like a place worthy of a visit. The review mentioned that it was extremely difficult to get a table at a reasonable dinner hour, so we tried lunch. No problem whatsoever -- a little surprising. The service was 5-star, the ambiance the vibe of a French brasserie that has great food but doesn't take itself super-seriously. But the food was a huge disappointment, so much so that when we got home I re-read the 2018 review to see what was supposed to be so wonderful. There was no semblance of the menu he wrote about; not surprising -- six years later. One thing overwhelmed the entire experience: the incredible amount of salt, and profligate use of butter or oil. I like my food well salted; and I adore butter and good oil. But when a really nice piece of skatewing sits immersed in a greasy pool of fat, it's hard to get at the deliciousness of the fish. And it was good -- every forkful -- but I had to let the fat drip off each morsel. It was oversalted. Did the chef forget that the capers were salty too? My gnocchi were good, but deep-fried -- something not mentioned in the menu. Also over-salted. The fish soup was gorgeous to look at with a lovey pillow of aioli floating in the middle, but again over the top salty. The cassoulet however was so salty that it went uneaten. I urged my companion to send it back, but he didn't. At the end, when the server came by as the table was being cleared, we did point out the problem. She asked if we would like to order something else, but it was too late -- not their fault. It's what we should have done. The wine was good, but am I in a time warp to think it was too expensive -- $20/glass? One dessert was divine -- the chocolate mousse. The other (forgot the name) but it was a piece of a very lean and dry cake, split, and filled with a nice citrus flavor creme. The cake seemed like a mass produce base for a coffee cake; I'm assuming it came from their bakery, but isn't one of their stellar offerings. I did see another review that mentioned the salt, and speculated that it was because the chef was a smoker (which dulls the sense of taste?) In any event, the meal wasn't worth the expense, which is sad because the underlying dishes (the stuff under the salt) looked as if it could have been stellar. And the restaurant took $20 off our bill as a courtesy for the uneaten entree. Next time I would send it back, I know that would have worked.
Be the first to ReplyFinally, a table at Rw lunch.
It's been a minute and tough for one here, where Le Rock lets you book. I went when the opened after trying to call & instagram. I got a table in the main dining room & I was thrilled. Ate: Laurent red $18 Soup de Poisson Skate Wing Grenobloise Chocolate mousse RW Lunch $60 Wine was chilled, not a fan of that though common at lunch but it's a treat to eat here!! Bread is a whole mini baguette with butter-- now that's hospitality. The soup is everything! Tasting of the sea yet refined. It's perfect! The main of slate was so delicious. I enjoyed how unrushed my lunch was.Soutout to the fab and chic host who sat me at the lovely table.
Be the first to ReplyNot gonna lie.
.. went in .. looked at the menu for lunch... and it just screamed " BS" to me.. food looks decent and the dishes actually "french" .But looking at the menu and seeing Homemade bread (a half baguette + butter.. (which most decent restaurant give for free.. even home made) well they re asking ..$11 Are they charging the tap water too??! I won t even talk about merguez (probably d'artagan which are the most horrible ones) at $36!!! When it s like the french cheap hotdog... smh.It just screams like a greedy owner desperate to make a buck or two... it s an horrible trend in NYC all those restaurant raising prices for less than mediocre dishes and service .. anyways .. just another one wanting to be classy... with ghetto fab attitude. Sorry , not sorry about the review... but restaurants are the ones that banked during covid and still act greedy.
Be the first to ReplyMy absolute favorite French restaurant in all NYC.
Food, vibe & service are spot on and always reliably consistent.

The beginning of the month I was on a trip in NY and a friend and I dropped in here in hopes for coffee, which they had, we saw name really weren't expecting a bar. We decided heck with it and got a couple of drinks.I asked for an Irish coffee, they didn't have any Irish whiskeys in stock. Which I had bourbon instead. Really was good. The overall feel of this place felt like a 50s style bar. It was quite quiet in the bar, it could have been the time of day. Overall had a good experience.

I came here specifically to try their hot chocolate, which had been recommended by @thecarboholic on Instagram as the best hot chocolate in NYC this winter. Unfortunately, it didn't look like they sold the hot chocolate separately so we decided to actually sit down for a whole meal.We got there a few minutes before opening, and the service was really good -- they let us wait inside and checked our coats while we waited for the menus to be printed.Overall, though, I wasn't impressed with the meal or the hot chocolate. The texture of the fries was very good (very crispy), but they were way too salty to the point where it made my lips dry. The levain pancake was very unique, but I think a bit too dense and too drenched in syrup (they serve it in a pool of syrup) to be enjoyable. As for the hot chocolate, it was much too sweet and rich for my tastes, so the whole meal felt a bit disappointing. The marshmallow was cool though. The steak and the duck were both alright, but overall I was a bit disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyRACIST ESTABLISHMENT.
Place was recommended by a chef friend of ours. We ordered 3 apps, bread and butter, and 2 entrees. The food was decent, nothing to write home about. But the service was straight up appalling. Service was attentive when I was the first one seated but after my other two Chinese friends came and lunch crowd settled in, things started to get weird. It got harder to get the attention of the staff. We waited an extremely extremely long time for our entrees. I would understand that they want to serve entrees after apps but there was zero communication from the staff. The most horrific part of the experience was when we paid the bill. We had asked to wrap leftovers to go and we were left with the impression that it was a hassle each time. A man came over and put a playing card on the table as he gave us a straight hard stare that also lasted too long, saying absolutely nothing. A grown ass man leering at us like we were circus freaks. It made the entire table extremely uncomfortable. We waited another 10-20 minutes waiting for our box. We had received our box for a previous app. We asked a staff member about it and the staff told us that we just had to hand in the playing card at coat check....Was this a result of us not ordering alcohol? Or was this because we were the only Chinese table at the restaurant? As a life long New Yorker for 30 years, this was a first. Especially at this price point.

I have to applaud Frenchette for the truly wonderful experience we had last night! Impeccable service from the coat check to the hostess to the incredible waitstaff, absolutely delicious food, ambiance on 10.Standout was the completely delicious cassoulet as well as some of the best wine I've had in NYC. We will be back!

Amazing Flavor, Fish Soup 5 stars, Took my wife for Birthday and she was skeptical at first, until she ordered the soup, she enjoyed every spoon full , I had my fair share of spoons too. Butter on bread submerged in the center of the bowl. Out of this world ! I give this 4 stars because of the flavor and richness of the dish we ordered.
Be the first to ReplyMy whole experience was tarnished due to the hostess
My whole experience was tarnished due to the hostess Gabrielle outright lying to my face.Full disclosure, I was 5 minutes late to my 8.30pm reservation on Saturday night. But I believed there to be a grace period. When I arrived she told me that the bar table I booked was no longer available - she said she had been trying to reach me, to let me know, and that she needed to confirm the reservation with me.I said I hadn't received a call... she said she had emailed me. So I checked my email, and NO updates. To make matters worse for her, I had actually come into the restaurant earlier that day to move my reservation from 8 to 8.30pm and confirm I would be coming. We did not want to sit in the restaurant. So requested the bar - of which she said no one was leaving. 5 minutes earlier she has been chatting to her friends saying she'd 'get them in'. We could clearly see two couples nearly done and called her bluff and asked to wait for the bar. And we were seated within 5 minutes. If you mess up a customer's reservation, just own up to it and make up for the mistake. Do not lie to your customers, it's bad business practice and sets a sour tone for everyone.Gabrielle was more interested in getting her mates in vs attending to real customers who wanted to have a big evening out.

Had lovely late lunch complete with hot toddy and three good vegetarian entrees. Loved the fries and gnocchi with ham on the side. The tagine was just ok- not flavorful enough so would not re order it. Service was great but a little slow considering the place was not very full
Be the first to ReplyBest french baguette sandwich in nyc.
The small baguette they use is perfectly golden and crusty! Also the dark chocolate venoise . I'm sure the breads are delicious too but I just cannot have an easily accessible giant loaf in my apt.

Horrible service. Okay food. Food: duck frites was great. Lobster beignets were a joke. Bourekas were greasy and bland. Fries were yummy. Cod, meh.Service: honestly don't know where to begin. Genuinely and shockingly bad service. The "wine steward" took 15 minutes come to the table after we said we had questions about the wine list (the server couldn't answer the questions). No ice bucket for the wine we ordered. The table to right got an ice bucket. The table left didn't. Inconsistent service. Asked for ketchup, took 15 minutes to get to us. No check-ins from the server. Folks around us were visibly frustrated and it created a really tense and unenjoyable experience for such a high price point. Random point: they don't uncork wine at the table. I'm not used to this, and maybe it's more common than I thought, but it was unexpected. Not coming back.

Came with fries nothing else . Rose wine came warm. Had to ask for ice bucket. For the prices they charge, a joke
Be the first to ReplyOverall, a good French restaurant that's definitely worth
Overall, a good French restaurant that's definitely worth trying once. Is it a little overhyped? Sure, a tad and while prices are on the more expensive side given the portion sizes, you have to keep in mind it's a French restaurant and any other French restaurant in the city will be just as expensive if not more. The white wine the Somm recommended to us was great, he was knowledgeable and very helpful. Our favorite dish might have actually been the pesto pasta (not pictured) and appreciated them giving us extra bread to soak up the sauce!
Be the first to ReplyOur server was very intrusive and aggressive, insisting
Our server was very intrusive and aggressive, insisting that we order more and that we would go hungry if we didn't buy lots of offensively overpriced starters. We -- two couples -- kept saying this will be enough, we're good, and she fought us, warning: you cannot add to your order once you place it, and unless you have no appetite you will not be satisfied by what you've ordered. We'd ordered steak frites and duck frites: was that really so small? Yes, she said, and pushed us to order a "tomato salad" that turned out to be exactly two medium-thick slices of medium-sized tomato, less than half of a tomato altogether, with a splash of dressing, for $18. Ridiculous! While manically upselling us, this server said she would never try to upsell anyone, she only wanted us happy. That was a big lie: the meals we'd ordered weren't small, but more than we could eat, and we like to eat a lot. Everyone in our party has worked as servers elsewhere and never has issues with restaurant staff. We didn't complain, because we were out to have a good time with each other, and we did. But I'd urge you to go elsewhere to have your dinner -- instead of feeling like you got had by your dinner.

Was tempted to try this place given the bakery attached with them is amazing! The experience and the food was overall very good. We ordered the tortellini which was very good as was the fish and the steak. Would u return? I'm not sure. They are good but I think too expensive for what they offer.
