As others have said, the service here utterly blows.
We walked in and walked back out. Can't deal with this sort of attitude from folks who purport to be in the customer service industry
Be the first to Replycavatelli is superb, definitely my favorite dish there.
the meatballs are also very good and the crostini are a good starter.

After seeing all the raving reviews for this spot, I was looking forward to trying it; but also skeptical since nothing stood out to me when I looked at the menu. Either way, I had to give it a try and called the restaurant for a reservation the day of on a Monday. Upon arrival, we were led to the back house that was outdoors but completely covered. I loved the ambiance here, especially since it was so hot inside. To start off, we got 3 Crostini ($6 each) to try out. This took a good 20 minutes to arrive from when we ordered. I got the chicken liver, cremini mushroom, and ricotta & honey. These crostinis are smaller than I expected, but the toppings were loaded that it could've almost been two pieces if I got some extra bread. I enjoyed the chicken liver most while the ricotta & honey was solid too. We thought the meatballs we ordered would come as an appetizer too as we were starving, but ended up waiting a total of 45 minutes until they arrived with the main pasta dishes. The Meatballs ($18) were huge and chunky, but nothing too special to me. It came with lots of sauce, so get some extra bread to dip it in. For the pastas, I got the Cavatelli ($30) while the boyfriend got the Papperdelle with Lamb Ragu ($28). I was not impressed with either pasta and did not like the texture nor flavor. We only ate it all up because we were seriously starving at this point waiting so long for the food. Besides the ambiance and that chicken liver crostini, I can't see myself coming back here. The food was not that impressive and the food took way too long to arrive. The service was mediocre at best as they only brought things over when we requested for it.

Delicious hands down one of the best itialian restaurants in nyc. Amazing service too
Be the first to ReplySmall intimate space but spacious at the same time.
It's not crammed with tables in the dining area once you walk bast the bar area. When it's warm out there is the option to sit outside in the backyard area. My server was attentive checking in etc. We had an early reservation for 5:30 and when we left a little before 7 the place was busy . The friend I was dining with has a severe allergy to tomatoes and tomato based products and her mom fresh black pepper. Our server confirmed with the kitchen on both and was proactive which was fantastic. We started with the crostini. We ordered the chicken pate, mushroom and the honey and ricotta. Each one was lovely light and flavorful. For entrees Caesar salad Spinach Tagliolini with Romanesco Cauliflower Cavatelli with Hot Sausage and brown sage butter - amazing spicy and flavorful Tiramisu My friend's mom who was visiting was impressed with the experience. She was initially skeptical of the fact that I chose a restaurant that had them come from the UWS to the "wilds" of Brooklyn.

Love having new restaurants in East Nashville, so we were excited to try Frankies. First off I would encourage people to give this one a try even though our experience wasn't very good. Everyone can have an off day. We arrived with a reservation in place and waited by the host station for 5 min while servers and bartenders walked past saying nothing. A simple " someone will be with you shortly." Would have made it fine but that didn't happen. Once seated our server was attentive, but certainly not warm in any way. He asked for a drink order to which he immediately brought wine for my wife, but I had to ask twice for the diet soda I'd ordered. We ordered bread which was a paid item and when I asked for balsamic vinegar, he said he wasn't sure they had it... this is an Italian restaurant, so pretty sure that's not the case. The bread came with olive oil no balsamic and no response from him whether they did or didn't have it but he never brought any. I also had to ask for black pepper, to which he delivered that to the table. Again not warmly. We ordered two different pasta dishes and waited an hour and 10 minutes for our food after finally asking for it. When I mentioned that to our waiter, he made excuses for why it wasn't there, but no apology. He clearly mentioned this to the hostess, and she delivered our food and apologized while also making excuses. The food was good but not really above average. I want to like this place. It's a pleasant ambience in a cute building a mile from my house but spending $100 for two pasta dishes, one glass of wine, a Diet Coke and some bread with a rather unpleasant service experience, and a long long wait is not my thing. I wish them the best.

I've been wanting to go here ever since moving to the neighborhood and finally stopped in for a rainy day lunch. Cannot say enough good things about this spot, from service to taste, everything is 10/10. It really feels like a special place you would only bring your BFFs or loved ones. Just a really good energy in there with the original brick walls. It's not cheap if you order a bunch of apps/drinks like we did. I seriously wish I could bathe in the broth of the Sweet Potato Ravioli. It was phenomenal despite being kinda lukewarm. Not sure if that's intentional though and I'm just needy.
Be the first to ReplyI highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food, service, drinks ' ambiance. The menu is fantastic with delicious handmade pasta dishes, several types of crostini, salads, tasty wine list & cocktails. Reservations are suggested.

Travelled from Miami to New York and we decided to explore outside Manhattan and wanted some Italian food. Loved coming to this place, had a reservation early at 4:45 because they are booked, showed up at 4:24 and were happy to sit at the bar and the manager was nice and let us sit and have early service while they were still prepping for service. Got the menu and some appetizers of the olives , crostini with ricotta and honey (very sweet and good) and the spicy pork sausage pasta dish and the sweet potato ravioli in the Parmesan broth. The spicy pork was a good dish oily , buttery , had sage it was very good and with a drink or cola it's very hearty . The sweet potatoe dish might not be everyone's cup of tea , the ravioli is sweet and like a dumpling very big, and with pie spice flavoring so very sweet juxtaposed with a light umami Parmesan broth and scallions that almost is like super starchy pasta water with flavorings and that park melted in super good. The other dishes like the salads looked great and the roasted beet salad is fantastic with the wine dressing very tangy and solid. Overall the staff being nice and seating us, the cozy atmosphere the great servers and the dishes I give it 10/10 for trying it, it's good , and the dishes were different and a little more artisanal than most Italian/ Greek fusion places !
Be the first to ReplyMy boyfriend is the bee's knees.
For Valentine's we went to the famous "Frankie's 457" in Carroll Gardens. I've been interested in going here for year's but never made it. This is my favorite kind of bougie restaurant. It does not feel pretentious here. There is no "foam" or essence." This is food at the highest quality. There is most definitely an Italian palette here. The clientele seems more like the casual, well to do CEO's of the northwest, not overdressed but high quality fabrics. Regulars, might I add, the people from the neighborhood, a very nice neighborhood. We made a reservation. On a Friday at 12:30 pm it was packed already. The bar was full and the tables were almost all full. The service could not be more spectacular. The gentleman really took care of us. He made sure he was taking care of us, without feeling overbearing. He was funny. I liked that he refilled our olive oil. I love that he made sure we soaked up the mozzarella tasting plate juice, exclaiming "it's the good stuff". I ordered a cocktail and my boyfriend got the German style "Rothaus" pilsner, both mind blowing. The sip of pilsner transported me back to Germany as a teen. We started with some bread and olive oil. Moved on to the mozzarella tasting plate. And then sampled the cremini and the chickpea crostini. Every bite better than the next. We also enjoyed the shaved brussel sprout salad. The entrees were delightful in every bite. I had a butternut squash with sage pasta pockets. And my boyfriend enjoyed the cavatelli and sausage. He's a hungry boy, it was more substantial and richer. I did not feel like sharing dessert but decided against the espresso. I ordered the crème brulee and my boyfriend got the tiramisu. Ohmygoodness. The tiramisu tasted better than any other tiramisu I've had before. Are these special cows that the cream comes from? What is the secret? The crème brulee was also out of this world. There are few places that feel like heaven on earth. Frankies is one of those places. My older brother would have loved this place. I wish I could take him there. There's a type of person that enjoys the fruits of life, and that' the kind of person that enjoys these kinds of places.

We hit up Frankie's last time I was in Brooklyn in the fall and they did not disappoint. I will never be able to step foot in their building again without ordering an olive oil martini and the cavatelli. Really great stuff
Be the first to ReplyNice Italian spot that serves all homemade pasta.
The bite on the cavatelli was really nice and the sausage had a nice crust to it. Probably a little on the pricier end but nothing ridiculous.
Be the first to ReplyI bookmarked Frankies many years ago, back when the whole
I bookmarked Frankies many years ago, back when the whole Brooklyn trend -- the borough as a style, a state of mind, a cultural mecca and a name for baby girls everywhere except NYC -- was really nuts. But until recently I'd never made the trek to try it out, maybe because I was subconsciously skeptical that a casual, throwback-style spot for Italian staples -- even one lauded as a trailblazer for key aspects of the aforementioned Brooklyn trend -- could really be all that special.I finally booked a table after buying some Frankies olive oil at Whole Foods. It's good stuff, sold in one of those fancy tallboy aluminum cylinders, and I was impressed with the label's description of how the olive oil is sourced from a "century-old, fully vertically integrated organic farm in Sicily" and packaged in a BPA-free can and made from some cool-sounding varietal. It suggested to me that Frankies is keeping it real despite selling its wares at a major high-end grocery store and obviously no longer just being some humble little BK eatery.Speaking of the eatery, I should probably talk about the actual restaurant. It's got gorgeous exposed brick and high ceilings and Edison bulbs and all the other interior design vibes that have practically become synonymous with the borough. The space is small, and if you can get a table near the windows by the backyard, do it. Service is professional but laid back. And then the food, damn it's excellent (and I disagree with every review that has pouted about the portions). The bread and marinara are textbook. The mozzarella tasting platter is a must -- serious quality cheese, and lots of it. The roasted vegetable salad, featuring beets and carrots and cauliflower, is beautiful and big. The gnocchi, despite not being seared, are divine, and they slide around in their bowl like slippery slabs of soap in a bathtub.Oh, and the olive oil is drizzled generously on almost everything. And it tastes even better in person.

From the moment you walk in your greeted right away with smiles smells of fresh food and the smell of wine. With the brick walls, it feels like home. The cavatelli is to die for also the gnocchi to start the mozzarella and bread and the olive oil pair so nicely with a nice full body red wine with some fruity notes. Making this a perfect place for an anniversary special occasion or a romantic dinner.

$133 for two people at lunch including tip, one glass of wine & no dessert. Quite hefty but the food was good. I would say if you have the coin, go for it but will be difficult for us to go back bc of the prices

The meatball sandwich was fantastic- the bread was thin and crispy, plenty of sauce and flavor, and the meat was great. Not super over priced, but kind of a lot for a sandwich without any sides.

I've been coming here for over a decade and it's always at the very least really good, but I've never reviewed it. Today, a friend and I schlepped over for lunch and it was delicious at has ever. And the waitstaff is so nice -- it has a casual, neighborhood-y vibe during the day I really enjoy. My friend liked his sweet sausage with onions and peppers over polenta, where I had the beet and avocado salad (basic and very good) and the eggplant marinara sandwich (transcendent -- to the point that I rushed home to find the recipe online. The key is battering the eggplant slices with the pecorino / warm cheeses instead of layering the cheeses in afterward. I highly recommend.) For dessert the prune / mascarpone dessert never fails. Super pleasant environment. The perfect Brooklyn lunch date.

Excellent service and delicious food. We split the Meatball parm sandwich and cavatelli. Both were delicious! Will definitely be back.

I came to Frankie's with my family for a celebratory graduation dinner last night and we could not stop talking about this meal! we split a few appetizers and each got our own pasta dish. would order again: romaine with caesar dressing, ricotta and honey crostini. would pass on: mushroom and truffle crostini, cauliflower - both just eh.you cannot go wrong with any of the pasta dishes - all 4 of ours were delicious and so flavorful (my personal standouts were the gnocchi and the sweet potato and sage ravioli). an order of the meatballs is a must, we could have eaten the marinara sauce with a spoon it is perfectfor dessert we tried the ricotta cheesecake which was delicious and light and citrusy - they even put a candle in it for me in honor of my graduationthe staff was really incredible too, so beyond friendly and even waiters that weren't assigned to our table came by to stop and say congratulations to mea perfect meal and we will be back!!!
