I love coming here for some wholesome Chinese food and good
I love coming here for some wholesome Chinese food and good night vibes. Great to come here as a first date or double date. Limited seating and weekends are busy. Service is great! The servers know how to explain the menu in detail. Egg drop soup is traditionally made. Enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyIf you go here, you have to get the honey walnut shrimp.
It was probably the best honey walnut shrimp I have ever tasted. The General Tso's Chicken was kinda spicy (I can't handle spice very well so it might just be me). Lo Mien was just alright, probably won't get it again, there wasn't that much flavor. The food came out pretty quickly. Service was fast for the lost part, but our party of 4 waited an hour on a Monday night to get seated. The inside of the restaurant was quite dark. I personally didn't mind but something to consider if you want to see your date's face. Would totally come back just for the shrimp, it was phenomenal. Prices weren't too bad ($60 for 4 dishes to share).
Be the first to ReplyFood Review only as service and ambiance were great! I
Food Review only as service and ambiance were great! I hate to write this as I was attracted to the decor; I had optimistic hope for the food as this place only has 3.8/5 rating. We arrived at 3:10pm shortly after they opened at 3pm. No one was around to help seat us. We had to go to the take out window to get someone's attention. We were 2 of 6 that were in the whole place. Ambiance like I said was great and we were sat next to the fireplace. Server arrived quickly and menu was shorter than expected. No non alcoholic drinks looked interesting. We settled with water. More than half of the menu I could not eat due to severe peanut and shellfish allergies. We ended up ordering the cucumber salad which was more expensive than any other place I have ordered it from. After a long wait, a large dish (4x the size of any other cucumber salad I have ever seen) came out and covered in chili and sesame seeds. It was in a bath of chili as well. The couple next to us ordered 4 dishes. Took a bit or two of each, paid and left leaving full dishes of food. They told the server they didn't want to take the leftovers. We thought what a waste full plates of food. Until we tried ours. The Crab Rangoon my friend had he said were not that good. The steamed white rice was hard and not edible. The cucumber salad on the menu did not say it came with chili. At authentic Chinese restaurants in OC they always put chili on the side of the table as an option. There was so much chili on it I couldn't eat it as it had soaked into all the cucumber from the bath it was in. I have never had sesame seeds on a cucumber salad. It's gorgeous to look at but ruined the cucumber imo. General TSO's chicken was too spicy as it was not supposed to be a spicy dish. The music was too loud, more people showed up so I can only assume that is why the volume was raised? We could not talk to each other without repeating sentences. The servers were so nice and accommodating as to why I added one star to the review. This place has service and ambiance down. They seem to get very busy maybe the dishes I can't eat are better?

The meal started with no one upfront to seat us when we got there. The music was so loud that we couldn't even hear each other from across the table. We ordered off of a very small menu and while we were waiting the couple next to us got their food, tried it, and promptly paid their bill and left without taking any leftovers. We got our food and wasn't impressed by any of it. We ordered the General YSO's chicken, cucumber salad, steamed rice, and Crab Rangoon. One of the things we ordered, the cucumber salad, which said nothing about being spicy but it was so spicy we couldn't eat it. The server was very nice and she could tell we weren't happy. She did take some things off our bill and discount the rest. I took the rest of the food home in to-go boxes just to be polite. I wanted to like this place, and I hate writing bad reviews, the decor is great, but there's just no way I can go back.

Service was great but this is the most disgusting food I've ever had. Flavors were all off. Panda has the same menu with a much better taste
Be the first to ReplyWhat a cute Chinese Restaurant.
I love the decor and the service. This place is always packed so be ready to wait. They do have a bar next door that you can wait at. Come at night so you can see it all lit up. Love the lanterns and the cute little candle in the middle of the table. They even have a fireplace. It's family style Chinese food and they definitely give you a lot of food, and for the price of the food is not bad at all.

The food is bomb!! Always like coming here before a night out! Devon our server was awesome and attentive! And it's so cute inside!

We arrived 3 hours before closing time and the staff told us that their "waiting list" was closed, there was literally no one in line. Very unprofessional, even after I spoke the the manager she said "maybe next time think about arriving sooner".

It's good food! The quality is kind of like an upscaled Panda Express (mid-quality Chinese food) but you can't beat the price. We did family style 4-5 dishes split amongst 5 people and it came out to like $10 a person. Ambiance (especially at night) definitely elevates your experience. Tiktok comments will say the food is mid but for the price it was great! Will definitely be coming back

Had went on family night with a date, the food was served in big portions. The cucumber salad was a very healthy yet spicy alternative! The service was great, but the restaurant is a bit small so just be prepared to be in a close proximity with others.
Be the first to ReplyNot giving this place another chance SMHSalt and pepper
Not giving this place another chance SMHSalt and pepper shrimp- straight up gross af. Mushy with a thick crunch outer layer and zero flavor. Orange chicken is ten times better at panda.. it was that bad. Overcooked and half sauced Beef in fried rice tasted plain and fake almostLo mein noodles were the only thing decent and they were only 3/5. What a waste of 78 bucks
Be the first to ReplyA must try Chinese restaurant for anyone who love Chinese
A must try Chinese restaurant for anyone who love Chinese cuisine. First, I want to share about their ambiance. The ceiling is decorated with vines and red lanterns, giving you a warming and foreign feeling, like you actually travel to China. On the table, they have these little oil lamps, making it feel more authentic as these were widely use prior to electricity era in China and their neighbor countries (though I think it could be a fire hazard if tipped or fell). Let's talk food. You would find many familiar Chinese dishes (Orange Chicken, General Tso Chicken, Dumplings, etc). Nonetheless, they won't take the same as you would if you order from Panda Express. These are probably the best dishes I had so far as Chinese food in America goes. The favors seem very authentic, heart warming and easy to enjoy. Finally, the service was really good. We got checked on at least 2 times and water is filled right away. Fast and friendly waitresses. Thanks for a good experience which I found hard to find nowadays.

The food is good (not great) and the service and ambience was great, but's it's not worth a 1-2 hour wait.
Be the first to ReplyCame for a quick lunch bite.
Insta-ambiance, yummy food, service attentive but played cool. Would go again for sure.
Be the first to ReplySo tasty! I love them.
They have great foood, amazing service and amazing workers. The restaurant is nicely designed and very beautiful!
Be the first to ReplyWe were in the neighborhood because I'd always wanted to go
We were in the neighborhood because I'd always wanted to go to Whiskers and Wine (but they were unexpectedly closed for the weekend! boooo!) and one of the antique store workers recommended Fortunate Son if a line wasn't out the door. We loved the ambiance when we walked by, so we left our name and phone number and were quoted a 45-minute wait on a Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed some cocktails next door at Polite Provisions, also highly recommended, and the text that our table was ready came before we knew it! Just like PP next door, the interior of this restaurant is literally dripping with character and charm. Hanging lanterns and vines cover the entire ceiling, giving it a garden-like, indoor/outdoor feel. I really liked the Motown and soul soundtrack too. From the decor to the cute, personalized (and easy to stack!) takeout boxes, no detail was missed here. Our server was super nice in explaining the menu, family portion sizes, and best sellers. The only red wine I wanted was sold out, so he brought me samples of 2 more wines to try, including another red that wasn't on the menu. We ordered the honey walnut shrimp, kung pao chicken, and shrimp and pork dumplings. Although the dumplings were my fave, everything was delicious, excellent quality, and packed with flavor. The shrimp were huge and not swimming in a syrupy sauce like most American Chinese takeout restaurants; the focus was the tasty shrimp themselves. I can see why people wait up to a few hours to eat here, and it's worth it! Plan your visit early and you can walk around the cute neighborhood and check our antiques, cocktails, or ice cream from a dry cleaner, while you wait. so glad we ended up here!
Be the first to ReplyThis place deserves a million stars.
The food and this restaurant is seriously some of the best in San Diego. I have lived her my whole life and still dream about this place. This is my fourth time eating inside and I'm blown away! The servers are incredible and give you their honest opinion as well. The ambiance is memorable and the playlist is 12/10!! the wait times can be long if you want to eat in but always worth it in my opinion. The most I've waited is 1 hour when they anticipated around 2 hours. We love fortunate son!
Be the first to ReplyHow UNFORTUNATE it was eating at FORTUNATE SON.
The highlights: 2 hour and 10 minute wait to get in25 minute wait inside to get water and put in a drink orderFood took another 20 - 30 minutes to arrive after orderingFood was atrocious - the most horrible, awful food EVERFood was all frozen, heated in microwaveEgg roll appetizer was mushy and cold in the middle, felt microwaved, sauce tasted out of a jar at Vons1st entree was so spicy I couldn't eat it2nd entree was dumplings, obviously frozen and heated, sitting in a bowl of 2.5 inches of soy sauce like soup - couldn't eat due to SALT BOMB 3rd entree was General Tso's chicken, also frozen and heated in microwave - couldn't eat due to SALT BOMB4th entree was walnut shrimp had no walnuts in it, and the teeny bit of sauce wasn't anything like walnut shrimp I've had anywhere elsePatrons at table next to us leaned over and said they couldn't eat their food because it was all salt and nothing else, it was inedible. They left and left all the food at the table. The patrons at the table next to us on other side also left most of the food at the table and left. Panda Express food is like Michelin Star, James Beard award compared to this horrible awful atrocious frozen microwaved food. And it's not cheap here. The whole thing was around $100. The whole experience felt abusive, the waiting forever to get in, waiting forever to get water or food, then the food is the most horrible food ever. STAY AWAY NEVER GO HERE - ITS MORE THAN AWFUL.OH and I'll never go again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere this place is very instagramable.
Food is okay, not the worst but not the greatest either. It's very salty for some reason especially the egg drop soup and the fried rice which is what I ordered. Ginger lemonade was too gingery as well. Overall decent place but the menu could use an update.

I came in with my boyfriend for our 2 year anniversary and our server Justin was AMAZING. We had to wait an hour and a half for a table which isn't too bad since last time went, they closed the waitlist. He gave us a run down of the menu and some of his favorite recommendations (the shrimp and pork dumplings are to die for). The dan dan noodles was my boyfriends favorites but becareful because they are very generous with the chili oil so it was spicy. Thankfully everyone working were attentive to the fact that we kept needing more water. Unfortunately they didn't have any desserts but our server was kind enough to recommend some other places around that we could check out for dessert.
Be the first to ReplyOverall: A very nice venue that sells decently priced
Overall: A very nice venue that sells decently priced Chinese food, but nothing out of the ordinary (except the honey walnut shrimp which was delicious). The fried rice was extremely bland and tasted like there was no flavor what so ever. Also side note: we tried calling in advanced to ask if there was going to be extra tables and the owner said that it would be a one - two hour wait; however, upon arriving there was honestly no one inside. Secondly, the waiter was a bit inappropriate because multiple times she came to our table to take our order and then had to leave in the middle of it. In addition, in the middle of taking our order the waiter just took off into the kitchen to confirm if they still had leftover ingredients for the drinks without warning us for the reason for her departure. The togo boxes containers are also super cute!
Be the first to ReplyThe atmosphere is great.
The food is fine. I don't think it's anything to write home about. I also wish they had scallion cakes on the menu. I've had the Orange chix, general chicken, and the fried rice. The rice was the best out of the 3.
Be the first to ReplyCool exterior and interior design.
Great vibes. The food is their take on classic Chinese dishes that are very delicious! Some of my favorites are the green beans, lo-mein, salt and pepper shrimp, and fried chicken wings.-green beans: if you like garlic and soy sauce flavors, this is for you-lo mein: can't ever wrong with flavorful noodles-salt and pepper shrimp: crispy and crunchy with the perfect amount of saltiness - chicken wings: if you're a wing person like me, you have to order this! Nice crunch, tender chicken, and hint of Asian flavors
Be the first to ReplyNothing but yum and fun.
We went in early but the place was flowing at a smooth cadence. Food exceeded expectation. I'm vegan and had a great selection of dishes. Get there have fun. Enjoy. The tea set was delightful. Bravo bravo.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was good but the seating was very strange.
ย It is very tight and gaudy. ย If they had square tables, it might be better. It looks like it used to be the space between two buildings. ย Parking sucks so great for ride share. And the menu...not a typical Asain food menu that normally has a lot of selections. This menu is very small. ย If you live in the area it would be a good place to get pickup. The food was good.
