My husband I and I stopped into the bar at 5:05 pm.
The restaurant just opened for the evening and we sat at the bar for a drink. After the bartender brought our drinks, she asked if we were ready to order and we said no, we were just here for cocktails. She quickly let us know that she would have to "talk to us about that" (aka we needed to leave) because there may be another customer that wants to order food. Working in food and beverage previously, I can understand the frustration with customers only drinking and not eating. However, we were planning on ordering a bottle of Cabernet at the bar, making up for the lack of food order. Nonetheless, the hostess knew that we were here for just drinks and led us to the bar. If there was a protocol for "food and drinks only" at the bar, the hostess should have said so. We are locals and will never be back. The service is terrible to say the least. We were very disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyIt was a nice place.
It was a little dark and the potatoes needed salt (only reasons to knock off a star). The service was EXCEPTIONAL!! Each staff member we encountered was gracious and knowledgeable! The food was exactly as expected and in accordance with all the reviews! The birthday touch on the table was very personal!!! Certainly should try when in Charleston!

From start to finish, we enjoyed what we consider to be our best meal thus far in this city. The staff are all knowledgeable about the menu and clearly know the meaning of quality customer service. The place is breathtaking, and the food is so great that the restaurant has earned a James Beard award. Thanks to everyone who helped make our night so special. This place is the definition of true Southern hospitality which is even reflected in the enthusiasm of the other diners. Our servers Jonathan and Sheila are superstars who enhanced our experience thanks to their passion for professionalism and just being great people along with everyone else on the team. And I should note that their steak tartar has real truffles in it which, of course, makes it the very best one we've ever had.

My favorite restaurant in Charleston. Get your reservations early.

Excellent service. Pate, tartare, pork schnitzel, swordfish, potato puree, desserts all wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyThis Charleston staple has been around for a long time.
They hardly need my review because clearly their reviews speak for themselves. However, I wanted to say that my dining experience at Fig was spectacular! The Bouillabaisse was amazing. And our server recommended the Ricotta Gnocchi + Lamb Bolognese for an appetizer. It was so flavorful. I do not have one negative thing to say about Fig. It was crowded but reservations go fast. We luckily booked close to a month in advance. Service was incredible. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who visits Charleston.
Be the first to ReplyFood is good.
The menu rotates based on fresh ingredients but a good variety - meat, fish, etc options. I am a pescatarian and plenty of options. Cocktails are well made and solid wine list (I am a picky California). Service was friendly and helpful. The restaurant is nice - choose to eat at the bar even though I had a table reservation. Make RESERVATIONS!

Thoroughly enjoyed the entire night! Great atmosphere too. Will definitely be back!

The service was better and more personable when I dined at a table a few months back. I remember the food being a bit underwhelming for the price but am looking forward to going back and trying more. As far as ambiance goes, this place fills up quickly and consequently is a bit noisy but not in a bad way!
Be the first to ReplyFIG stands for Food Is Good, which I just love.
Quaint, cozy, kinda dark but in the best way....FIG will quickly draw you in and make you feel special. Attentive and knowledgeable staff, beautiful and thoughtful food....i would happily go back again and again. Late night meal for us so we just ordered drinks, entrees and dessert. We got the mustard crusted swordfish (they had me at capers) and the cast iron wagyu bavette. The wagyu wasn't as tender as I expected but the flavor was deep and rich and it was cooked perfectly. The swordfish had all the elements I was looking for it was bright and fresh and just the right bite everytime. The sorghum sticky pudding with amaretto ice cream was lovely. I loved it. I really want to go back and just sample all the desserts because that chocolate budino sounded really good. Solid, classic and always a great meal.....love FIG!

Enjoyed a great meal with Excellent Service. Waiter explained the menu in great detail, was spot on for the items he recommended after a brief conversation with me. If you are looking for a unique, fine dining experience near downtown Charleston, SC this is the place to go!

Second best restaurant we tried , very good but not as good as peninsula. Great service, very good quality food (we especially loved their soft crab) , great ambiance- pricey - but in line with similar quality restaurants in Charleston.
Be the first to ReplyGood food and fantastic service.
Corkage fee is $40! A bit high in my opinion especially for having such a European heavy wine list. Menu doesn't change much.

One of the reasons why we made another trip out to Charleston was to try FIG and it was Absolutely incredible! That's what we heard from others, and FIG did not disappoint. We barely got the last reservation when reservations opened up. The service was awesome; the ambience was great. Every ingredient they used was fresh. Loved the gnocchi app - pillowy and the meat sauce was rich and something I still crave. The chicken entree was succulent. The shrimp bouillabaisse was good - but again most importantly the flavors were complex and ingredients fresh. Their desserts were so good - especially the frozen strawberry yogurt.Basically you can't go wrong! Everything was so fresh and flavorful, in a complex but simple way. FIG is an absolute must.

My sister booked this reservation about two months in advance for our first trip to Charleston. She set a reminder on her phone and managed to snag a slot for dinner. As soon as the doors opened, we were seated promptly. I liked how the tables were spaced, it was busy, but not cramped.Service was quick and efficient, our glasses were never empty, our tables bussed quickly, and our waitress Corrin, gave us great recommendations, all with a smile on her face.We started off with the soft-shell crab, our waitress really sold us on this, and it was DELICIOUS. My sister had never had soft-shell crab before and she's not a big seafood person, so she was blown away by this starter. We should have ordered two! It was THAT good. For mains, my sister ordered Pork Milanese and upon our waitress' recommendation, I went for the bouillabaisse. There was a weird cold spell this week, and at 35 degrees, a warm hearty soup sounded particularly appetizing. It was wonderful. In a light, flavorful, saffron-based broth, grouper, shrimp...so so delicious. The crouton pushed it over the edge. I really feel like FIG does seafood very well. Unfortunately, the pork was a touch dry and covered in large, chunky pieces of bitter salad. Go for the seafood. My sister's favorite was the strawberry frozen yogurt with pistachio cake. It was fresh, delicate, and slightly tart. I can't remember what drink she ordered, but it had gin in it, she was pleasantly surprised--because she typically orders sweet cocktails, but this one was well-balanced. FIG is worth a visit! Thanks for the enjoyable meal and great service.
Be the first to ReplyAtrocious service, rude and inconsiderate.
Our interaction with management was upsetting. The opposite of the Charleston restaurant vibe. Go somewhere else. Zero stars.

Came here for Valentine's Day and had a great time! Our server was super knowledgeable on the entire menu and was really friendly. The appetizers we got were out of this world. We got the beef tartare and the gnocchi. My bf loved the cocktail he got and I loved the wine. Our entrees were just ok and that's why I took one star off. Next time I'd love to sit at the bar and just order some drinks and some apps!!!!

The wait staff offered great suggestions and treated us better than we deserved. This is a perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a few close friends.

Had a party of 6, was unable to snag a reservation in the dining area, but was able to sit with two great girls at the communal table. Bobby was our server and was knowledgeable and attentive. Had an amazing time, Food, Service, and Drinks all an A+ !!! Highly recommend to any one in the area for a great food experience!

There is a reason my fig is so hard to get into because it's so good all around the entire year. Great location downtown within walking distance of most hotels with a great staff and ambience.

Amazing ambiance, a lot of the food was incredible and mouth watering. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is the fish was very fishy. I couldn't take a bite of it without the sides to mask the overwhelming fishyness. The eggplant and cottage cheese 10/10 The mashed potatoes are incredible The drinks are sexy Loved everything except the fish.

Expectations were high. and met! We were able to get a reservation - finally - first seating at 5PM. Menu changes so check it out online but it may differ by the time you land a reservation. For starters, we had the ricotta gnocchi alla bolognese - delicious. Now, strangely enough we all thought that the sauce tasted like old school Chef Boyardee - but somehow this only added to the dish! Gnocchi was perfect. Also ordered the Oysters broiled with smoked pimenton butter. These were 'the best I have ever had" according to the two oyster-eaters. For mains, one had the triggerfish w/ chicory salad (word on the street is to order the triger fish if its on the menu - super white, light, sweet fish); one had the sea bass (don't recall how this was prepared); and I went straight out of my comfort zone and had the bouillabaisse. OMGoodness, it was wonderful. NOT tomato based, in a light broth, grouper, shrimp, so so so good. Generous portion and I am dreaming about it still. Order this. Now, this is a place without salt and pepper on the table; you will not be served bread and butter. This is specific, food-driven, chef-driven dining. For dessert we shared the most excellent lime cream puffs (I can never eat just a key lime pie again!) and the chocolate budino- don't let the name intimidate you. This little glass pot fell directly out of heaven to the table. It took all I had not to run my finger around the dish! With a cocktail, starter, main, and dessert this will run you about $100 per person before tip. Worth every penny. Service is 'stiff' but efficient. Not there to engage, just to serve. Honestly I had begun to doubt the hub bub about Charleston food - I mean you can only take shrimp and grits so far. But this adventure restored my faith. 5 stars.

I could write a long review of everything we ordered but honestly it could all be summed up with - overpriced and overhyped. The hostess wasn't friendly, the restaurant interior was outdated and the puréed mashed potatoes had no business being $15. Nothing crazy, nothing special and definitely nothing memorable about this meal.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a terrific restaurant.
We made a reservation four weeks in advance and were immediately seated when we arrived. Our server, Samantha, was friendly, attentive and informative. The food we ordered was delicious. It was a great experience.

..amazing. Perfect place for a romantic dinner. Make sure you make reservations because they get booked. I was on a wait list for a few days until I finally received notice for an open table and was able to make a 9:15pm reservation for a Thursday evening. The staff is super friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. My boyfriend and I went there for our anniversary. The drinks were all delicious. My first drink was named "Scotty doesn't know" and I think it was one of my favorites ever! The other drinks were good as well. The food was really tasty; they change their menu daily and the menu has the date on the bottom along with the chefs signature. I got the flounder which was very light and flaky and all the flavors went together well. My boyfriend got the rib eye which was tasty but the presentation could be better. Let's just say...I think the dessert was my favorite, it melted in your mouth. I'm still craving the dessert which was the sticky sorghum pudding. It is similar to a bread pudding but so much better! I would definitely come back again!
