Fhior Edinburgh Reviews from The Last Year
T Swift Date!
Reunited date with a friend. Had the 4 course tasting menu. Started with pear cocktails, very delicious. Then had some little nibbles, one was trout roe and the other was a hash brown with a mouse on top. We also had fresh bread. Both lovely. For starters had a cured trout, then asparagus dish. Our main was the duck. It was amazing and very generous! Dessert was in season fresh strawberries with chocolate. Great value! Highly recommend. Service was impeccable, felt really well looked after.
Great Tasting Menu Dinner
My wife and I finished off our Scotland adventure in style with this 10-course tasting menu. The dishes were simply but wonderfully presented and scrumptious. The crab, scallop and duck dishes were particularly delicious, but everything was very good. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, we were very happy with this restaurant and our dinner.
Brilliant
Food was mind blowing. Service was the best I’ve had anywhere. Worth the money. Thank you to Peter and the team for your amazing hospitality.
Flawless
Everything was perfect, food, wine, service and atmosphere. We will come back there during our next stay in London, that’s for sure.
A very special 30th birthday celebration!
This was arguably one of the best meals I have ever had. We came here for our friends 30th birthday and from start to finished we were greeted by the loveliest staff who went to extra lengths to make our friends birthday extra special. The meal itself consisted of 5 courses, but there were a few extra accompaniments, making it great value! All in all, the food and experience was great, I would 100% recommend!
Exceptional food, wine and service!
Exceptional in every way!! The food was soooo delicious - every single course beautifully throught through and presented. The wine pairing were excellent and really interesting choices. And the staff there made it all brilliant - introducing each dish so well and with such character. The Somm was fantastic. Very highly recommended!
A wonderful dinner .... again!!!
Maybe the best restaurant in Edinburgh (though there are a few others of the same standard). The 10 course tasting menu was a brilliant succession of interesting, different and delicious dishes. The emphasis on fish & seafood was particularly welcome. The wine selection is different to the usual lists and all the better for it. What makes the restaurant really stand out is the knowledgeable, professional and very personable service by the waiting and kitchen staff. They make an evening at Fhior a relaxed, interesting and hugely enjoyable place to eat. I'm still wondering how the men in red haven't given it a star - certainly equal to or better than other places that have received them in past few years.
Perfect yet not overly formal tasting experience...
Many high end and fine dining restaurants in Edinburgh (maybe Scotland as well) are closed on Sundays and Mondays. That is not to say we have to compromise for other less favoured restaurants on these days... Fhior is one of the high end restaurants that is on on a Sunday. The location seems like a residential address and the restaurant set up is structured such that there are only a few tables in each area/room. You will not feel that the place is over crowded at all. In fact, our table of 3 is already a "big" table... most are couples. They offer either a 7 or 10 course tasting menu and we opted for the 7 course upon reservation. However, I understand you can change to the 10 course if they have the ingredients for your table. We chose a bottle of 2009 La Soula which was I think the last bottle in the cellar... lucky :) A lot of thoughts and effort have been put in the setting, presentation and menu ... from the cutlery, serving arrangement and of course the produce and cooking skills. It is a very well arranged dinner and everything was very nice.
Exceptional on all counts
We enjoyed a 10 course small plate meal with complimenting wines. This small restaurant provides an eating and drinking experience at the top of its game. It is not pretentious but all the staff understand the provenance of the food it is serving, the fusion of the food and the wine which enriches the eating experience and perfectly suited to each dish. This turned out to be an enlightening experience The chefs are hugely talented and The somelier equally talented. The staff are welcoming and take the time to ensure everything is beautifully served and presented. Yes it’s pricey but we didn’t grudge a single penny for such a unique adaptation of locally sourced and foraged ingredients.
Lovely Experience
From the minute we walked into the restaurant it was a lovely experience. The food was amazing and the staff so attentive and very knowledgeable about the food and drink we had. The four course tasting menu was excellent and would recommend it. The scallops were the nicest I’ve ever tasted.
Many happy returns.
A spectacular lunch. Very nicely balanced and imaginative menu, excellent service. The wine list is small but interesting with very good quality unusual wines at a reasonable price. The Sommelier is very helpful. This was our second time here and we will certainly return when back in Edinburgh. It is one of the very best restaurants in the city.
Extraordinary
Friendly and expert service, not stuffy or snooty. Great food beautifully presented. Very creative and satisfying. Highly recommend for special occasion.
Special experience
Went to restaurant for our wedding anniversary. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were made to feel special. The food and service were excellent and I have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant
7 course menu
The 7 course menu was very delicious. The tast and the arrangement was very good, and the waiters are professionals. The sommelier give us a good recommendation.
Relaxed and enjoyable anniversary dinner
We headed to Fhior to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We watched the rugby then headed over. Welcomed in and given a lovely card from the Fhior team, v.thoughtful. Clean, simple decor and relaxed atmosphere which allowed for the food and wine to be the stars of the evening. I particularly enjoyed the music! Service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. If i asked an annoying Q about feremntation or commented on the cutlery they got me an answer without issue. Big shoutout to the Sommelier who was great! We opted for 10 courses and paired wine and where happy to be surprised by the menu. My husband has a shellfish allergy and that was catered for without any issues. With any tasting menus some dishes shine brighter than others, the two light bites were a great why to start. We particularly enjoyed the vension tartare. I loved the scallop/prawn toast and my husband looked on longingly. I am not a fan of pudding, but the rhubarb /meadowsweet dish is now #1 on my favs. The sea buckthorn dish was a surprise big hit too. The paired wine worked beautiful with each dish. After a recent 🌟 dinner where the wine could only be described as challenging this was a very pleasant experience. Overall, relaxed, chilled, fun eating and drinking experience. Nice way to spend your anniversary.
They don't use yelp in Scotland as much as we do in the US.
I wanted to leave this review anyway because this was one of the 10 best meals I have had in my life. I also attempted to Yelp as we were planning our trip. I saw this place on Men in Kilts and I had to take my Mom. Reservations are required and they ask for a credit card hold. The chef here is very talented and has the art of balancing a meal mastered. If you have the opportunity to travel to Edinburgh you must not miss this place. If I had to name the ambiance of this place it would be Cozy Elegant. Let the wine pairing happen! You will not be disappointed. The scallop appetizer is a must!
Amazing night out with outstanding food and service
One of the best meals I've ever had. The service was outstanding and the wine pairings with the 10 course meal were perfect. Each dish was so well done in it's own way, my least favourite dishes of the 10 were still great compared to most other places I've been to. Pricey but definitely worth the money if you're wanting to have a fantastic night and try dishes that you wouldn't see elsewhere.
Wonderful food, great experience, orange dessert to die for…
We’re been a few times now for the four course lunch and it’s always been excellent- great food, great service and interesting matching wines. The info on the food and wines really helps one enjoy the meal- although sometimes it’s hard to catch all the details because of the rapid delivery…yesterday the orange dessert was outstanding! Absolutely delicious combination of sweet and sharp flavours. I believe it was its first “outing” …. I hope it comes back! For me the only thing is that the rooms lack “atmosphere” - this isn’t the Witchery but …Overall wonderful lunch experience.
Perfection
Perfect in every way. Elegant, refined and yet friendly and relaxed. The food was so beautiful, the matched wines actually matched and the service was spot on.
I'm really fussy!
I'm the fussiest diner I know and it takes a lot for me to write a glowing review, but I loved everything about lunch today. The service was relaxed and fun, but professional. The staff were very knowledgeable, the food was outstanding and the pairings were interesting and very well matched. The additional 'cheese toastie' course with Perry is a must! Get a table if you can!
Fhior is true to its name
Truly, a very special anniversary lunch for my wife and me - true to the Auld Alliance in combining French and Scottish elements/tones. Our French friends are now hooked on skirlie. Excellent ambiance: stripped Scandi as the pro reviewers say but elegant, comfortable (we were in the window double seat) - and intriguing dishes accompanied by excellent wines and, in my case, a naughty cider to go with the cheese. Staff suitably chatty but not importunate in any way: professional but friendly.
Delicious! Where to start? Everything was outstanding.
The Smoke cocktail was perfectly balanced, showcasing the peaty flavor of the Ardbeg Whisky. The Scallops might have been our favorite course of the tasting menu - although everything was memorable. The small printed map of Scotland with the source of every ingredient reinforced the farm to table orientation. The service was attentive and helpful.
We recently had the pleasure of dining at The Kitchin in
We recently had the pleasure of dining at The Kitchin in Edinburgh. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we felt ensconced in the atmosphere and genuine hospitality the restaurant provided. It was apparent that great care had been taken to create a place that was pleasing and comfortable as the interior décor was cozy and intimate. The Surprise Tasting Menu was diverse and the dishes were crafted with the utmost skill and creativity. Each of the seven courses that we indulged in was a true masterpiece (including the vegetarian versions) because the favors were exquisite and the presentation of each dish was a work of art. The staff was very knowledgeable in describing each dish and you can taste the thoughtfulness and care in every delicious bite. We were very pleased that we decided to also include the wine pairing because we enjoyed learning about each and they complimented each dishes perfectly. The only glitch was that the optional cheese course took a lot longer to be served than the previous courses and then the rest of the courses took longer than usual, as well as receiving our bill at the end, and the dinner service ended up taking 5 hours. Regardless, we had an exceptional meal that we thoroughly enjoyed and will never forget.
This Scottish Michelin star restaurant owned by Tom Kitchin
This Scottish Michelin star restaurant owned by Tom Kitchin of Edinburgh, did not disappoint! The service was impeccable, the food clean and delicious in a contemporary, relaxed ambiance. We arrived for our lunch reservation and were warmly welcomed and immediately seated. Our server greeted us with a daily menu, recommended favorite dishes complete with cocktails/wine pairings. The baked scallops were presented in a scalloped shell and served steaming hot in a creamy white wine sauce. The scallops were fresh, large and tender without a trace of sand/grit. That being said-- you were tempted to throw your head back, and drink the very last drop of gourmet cream sauce straight from the shell! The cheese tray offered an array of tasty morsels with a depth of flavor complimentary to our meals. Ahh-- and the desserts were lovely! They were pretty and delicate... leaving us with 'sweet' summer memories! I'm happy to share, the food and experience were both so good, I simply forgot to take photographs until dessert arrived! The expertise of the chefs, blended with the personable professionalism of the front of the house, made our dinning experience five star. When the chef visited our table to inquire if we enjoyed our courses... we knew we would visit again! Thank you...
