Fabios Wien Reviews
Good but at those prices - it should be.
We learned of Fabios from our Austrian food guide (it had a commendably high score). The one caveat that must be stressed before I say any more, is that Fabios is a very “serious” restaurant. If you are looking for a slice of pizza or think you can bully the Maitre d’ then you will be very disappointed/upset. At Fabios the customer isn’t always king. You can try to book online…but you can’t. You can request that your booking application is considered but you need to receive confirmation before being certain. This is made quite clear. The other thing that is made quite clear, is that you will be seated where you are told you are sitting - not where you wish to be seated. This is also made crystal clear in the booking. The last thing that may cause you concern is the cost. Fabios isn’t exactly a bargain but then again - is any five star restaurant in any big city? Now on to our experience. We were seated indoors but next to a window, which for us was absolutely perfect. You could watch the world go by without the pitfalls of an outdoor table. The interior decor is classic modern Italian. You could be mistaken for being in Milan. Seating is well spaced and the furniture extremely comfortable. Service is polite, efficient and correct. In my humble opinion however, some of the food did not live up to its lofty price. The breads supplied were superb, with a good selection of well made products. Of our two starters my wife’s Fried Squid with Amalif Lime Dip was the best we have ever tasted. If your experience of squid has been chewy, borderline inedible, rubbish - this was an absolute triumph! The batter was light and crisp, the squid extremely tender and complemented perfectly by the light, slightly acidic but tasty dip. My braised baby octopus was OK but really quite bland. I haven’t eaten “moscardini” served in this way before and in my opinion, it didn’t do the octopus any favours. It was also under-seasoned. Things looked up with my main of beef, cooked and served to perfection, as were the accompanying rosemary potatoes. While my baby octopus was under-seasoned, my wife’s Ossobuco Milanese was, if anything, very over-seasoned. This was a shame as it was a very fine example of the dish, with the meat (as it should be) falling away from the bone. The best part (the marrow) delivered a delicious, creamy “hit”. The polenta served with it was a change from the usual saffron risotto but did compliment the dish well. Desserts were excellent, with my wife’s Millefoglie with creme patisserie, mini profiteroles and marinated figs being simply spectacular. My Tiramisu was more traditional and delivered with a bit of a flourish, the creamy aspect of this classic dessert pouring down the sides of the Savoiardi sponge, after the serving “ring” was removed. Absolutely no complaints about the desserts. From the wine list (with mark-ups reminiscent of my home city of London) a reasonable Primitivo was chosen, with the better bottle (from the producer Es) breaching the €200 mark which is (IMHO) way too much. The preprandial cocktail drinks (a classic Negroni for me, an excellent Prosecco for my wife) were a little over the expected price but very good nevertheless. I said service was excellent (and it was) but I would change one aspect - put my wine within reach. I am quite capable of pouring my own wine. I know that some do like to have their glasses “recharged” but not me. In conclusion, I would recommend Fabios, if you know what you are letting yourself in for. I was quite surprised when the bill arrived, as it was less than I anticipated. This was more to do with me “reining in” my wine expectations (after seeing the list) than the cost of the food. The faults (if they can be called that) were minor and were almost entirely down to seasoning. You can add salt - you cannot take it away. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a very special place, serving special food - you could do far worse than book a table at Fabios.
Unfriendly and aloof
Unfriendly reception. I (an older lady) was alone and wanted to eat. I was given an uncovered table, although there were plenty of covered tables free. Then no service came for ages, while the presumably regulars were being courted at the covered tables. I felt absolutely unwelcome and so left after waiting in vain for a while. It seems that only Viennese society is welcome here.
Disappointing
We ate at Fabio's for the first time in many years. We had fond memories of the veal liver. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the meal. The veal liver was not tender and the sauce was too thick. For starters, we had stracciatella with asparagus, but there were only a few tiny pieces of asparagus. The crème brûlée and the apple tart for dessert were good. With such extremely high prices, we expect better quality.
Disgusting Fabio
This place is run by an arrogant and uneducated savage who speaks to his customers as though they should kiss his feet for the privilege of being there. Avoid at any cost, unless you find yourself in a sado-masochist mood.
A restaurant not to be passed by!
What a lovely restaurant to finish off a trip to Vienna. The food was delicious and service great. A great choice of starters and mains.
Catastrophic food
We were very disappointed, not only by the bad food and the absolutely catastrophic presentation of the dishes, but also by the prices which were in no relation to the bad food!!
Top quality, unfortunately now completely overpriced, the paint is coming off.
Excellent quality of the food, very good wine selection, but the price-performance ratio is no longer right, there are now better alternatives in Vienna.
A great classic in Vienna
Fabios is of course a classic in Vienna's city centre. The bar area (renovated some time ago) is ideal for an aperitif, where you really feel like you've been transported to Italy. As for the food, it's worth noting that it's exactly what you'd expect from such a restaurant: high quality, but without any major surprises. What you find on the plate is exactly what you'd expect from the menu. But that's a positive thing, because the quality is good. Overall, of course, it falls into the "trendy restaurant" category, but it's always worth a visit!
Stylish restaurant...
You get a good reception and your outerwear is hung in the wardrobe. The food is very delicious and the meat is tender. The tiramisu is really good, with a delicious coffee taste. The service from our waiter, Alberto. Could have been better. We didn't get the opportunity to order more wine or coffee etc. So we didn't buy that.
Fabios is an upscale fine dining Italian restaurant in
Fabios is an upscale fine dining Italian restaurant in Vienna, Austria's city centre. It is a favorite among celebrities, dignitaries, and the jet set crowd; for good reason. The ambience is a vibrant yet quiet elegance, the service excellent and the food is delicious. The menu has a wide range of entries. Valentino was our server, he was well trained with a good personality. We shared prosciutto as a starter; Calamari Fritti and Paccheri Pasta, followed by Sole and Branzino which we paired with a bottle of crisp delicious Gaya Alteni Sauvignon Blanc. The cheese plate was also delicious. Highly recommended. Reservations required.
Robbery plain and simple
This is plain and simple a rip off. The food is served in microscopic portions and its not even good. The prices are absolute insanity. A Ceasar salad for instance is 29EUR. Honestly I cannot understand how people can be mislead believing that is actually a good restaurant. The waiters are unfriendly and if you only order a bottle of water (9EUR) then you are looked down upon. So sad that this type of restaurant still exists in this day and age.
Nice elegant simple ambience, excellent Italian cuisine and service
I visited Fabios during my last family visit in Vienna. I saw this restaurant some years ago when spending time in Vienna, but could not get a table on short notice being it was fully booked. During my last visit in February and having read some of the negative comments, I wasn't planning to make a reservation. After having viennese cuisine for a number of days i decided I would risk visiting this restaurant. My experience there was excellent from the very first minute, the welcoming, the table, food was excellent wine and service. I left commenting that if I was living in Vienna I would have been a regular.....
Disappointing
Portions were terribly small but the prices were terribly high. I ordered Caesar salad with sliced chicken breast but there was no Caesar dressing and the chicken breast was not freshly cooked and my wife ordered gnocchi which was the smallest portion we ever experienced. Then finally when we asked for our check the staff disappeared and we forewarned them that we were on a time schedule and needed to leave promptly and the restaurant was not busy at 5:00 PM. My recommendation would be pass on this establishment and there are much better restaurants in the area.
No kindness
We are good guests of this restaurant, at least I thought the would be welcome but after last dinner, not so sure anymore. It was a horrible experience, I got a broken wineglass with a hole in the middle( to be honest I have never seen something like that) So when I startet to drink the wine spilled on my clothes, not only I wear nice clothes I was sitting during dinner wet on the table. It was a shame, nevertheless this things can happen even in those restaurants. But the worse thing was the reaction of the service personal, close to nothing, they were just shocked about the glass because it looked kind of funny but no excuses that I was completely wet and this in the beginning of the dinner. So thank you very much for this very uncomfortable experience.
Worst service
I had reserved today on 6:00 Pm by phone because i couldnt do it online and the person ( mr) on the phone told that he can confirm at 9:30PM. When we went there they told that they dont have table and they canceled. Very very bed person. He let us out at 9:30 Pm and we had to manage to find a restaurant at this time. Very bed service. We will never come again!!!!
Don't get caught without a reservation to this swanky
Don't get caught without a reservation to this swanky bourgeois local. Luckily we made them and glad we did. Sadly, we were not very hungry but even with 2 small plates of spaghetti and a single glass of red was $260.00. The location is amazing. Seriously in the middle of it all right in the city center. Surrounded by loads of goombahs dining with extended families and more goombah freinds than you can count, its a voyeurs' delight. The food is okay - sorry I have had better but the service is straight out of a movie with someone to catch your crumbs, if you like that sort of thing. Its good for "went there, did that" but it will crush your wallet like a hippo at dinner time if you make this your haunt. Its was worth the visit.
The food was absolute fabulous! We started with the Cesar
The food was absolute fabulous! We started with the Cesar salad, the white asparagus, the bread salad, the carpaccio and calamari. We had the dish of the day which was some sort of fish with saffron sauce, the veal with truffle, and gnocchi with asparagus for mains. They were all outstanding! The service was amazing! We had a bottle of Merlot and a bottle of Chianti Reserva which were both amazing. The ambiance was great. It was a very pleasant experience overall.
Fabios is one of the best restaurants that I ate at while
Fabios is one of the best restaurants that I ate at while staying in Vienna. I was a little worried because I read some bad reviews on Google, but I personally had no problems or complaints. The service was wonderful and our waiter was very friendly and helpful. This Michelin restaurant has beautiful interior and exterior and is situated right in the heart of town.Do yourself a favor and order one of their Bellini's. They are delicious, but be careful because they are addicting. The sea-bass was perfectly cooked and flakey; it was accompanied by fresh and flavorful vegetables. My favorite part of the meal was the chocolate soufflé. It was one of the best I have ever had. This restaurant is a definite must if you are in Vienna!
