Apalling
Shameful. I went there with my fiancee as the restaurant does a got job at presenting itself. The staff is extremely judgmental and the food is highlg unimpressive and overpriced.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent lunch
Crisp white tablecloths, attentive service, great acoustics and delicious Sicilian food made with care and attention. 3 minutes walk from the tube down past Holland Parkโs villagey shops makes this a really good lunch choice. We all had fish: I had cod with cannellini beans. Not sure why itโs showing as closed : very much open in December 22.
Be the first to ReplyA gem on the busy streets of London
First of all, restaurant has reopened since August 31. A fabulous dining experience. Excellent, attentive service. The tuna tartare special on a bed of smashed avocado was delectable! We opted for the mushroom risotto and both declared it to be one the best weโve ever tasted! Wines by the glass (red and white) were excellent. Were guided by the server as we werenโt familiar with them. Panna cotta for dessert with a glass of grappa were the perfect conclusion to a perfect dining experience!
Be the first to ReplyItalian food at its best !
We both felt dubious upon entering, as the place was completely empty at 19.05, but this proved to be unfounded as shortly afterwards the restaurant began to slowly fill up.
The service was friendly and helpful with the wine suggestions; this was welcome since my wife and I have opposite tastes.
For starters, my dear one chose the Melanzane Parmigiana, which she absolutely loved (so much in fact that she mopped it up with the fresh bread we were given as an appetiser). I chose the Salumi, which was simply delicious.
For the main event my darling chose the Fregola Sarda (langoustines in risotto with tomatoes and saffron). Needless to say that went down well with her cool glass of Iselis - a fruity Nasco from Sardinia.
My choice was a simple one - the Saltinbocca (fillets of veal with buttery mashed potatoes - but just the job, washed down with some Chianti Riserva.
After showing some interest in the wines, we were tested to a complimentary small tasting session at the bar.
If we could afford to eat out like this more often we would !
Classic food meticulously prepared
We had a better experience here than I gather other diners have. The menu is hardly daring, but every dish the four of us had was perfectly cooked and well-presented.
My paparadelle with wild boar sauce was excellent, with the noodles tasting house-made. Squid with whitebait, my wife's starter, was also perfect, and rather a generous portion. We each had a fish entree. My fish seemed a bit overcooked, but the orange, fennel and olive accompaniment was excellent. My wife had bream with thinly sliced aubergine and other vegetables, and was quite happy with it. Our host had veal cutlets, an enormous portion which he seemed to enjoy.
The dessert list is fairly limited, just the standard stuff, but a vanilla panna cotta with berries was very nicely done.
The biggest downside here is the noise level, which is deafening to the point of making conversation challenging. There is no acoustic tile on the somewhat low ceiling, and conversations really reverberate.
1 hour of my life...
Popped in with another couple, on our way to a book launch. 2 bottles of average wine, 1 small plate of ok pasta each, two tiny salads to share. ยฃ190 later, we walked out wondering how the hell that hour had just cost us almost ยฃ200! Sorry, not going back in a hurry.
Be the first to ReplyNoisy, overpriced for good pasta
The saltimboca and frittata were mediocre, the acoustics is bad, so the conversation with friends is difficult, the pasta was good, but it is pasta, so for this price, stay home.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience.
Disappointing experience.
We had been recommended this by a few people who had been several years ago. However it seems the quality has gone down. Food was good, but overpriced for what it was. Service was not so good, with the staff seeming constantly confused. I will say however that one of our group had dietary requirements and they were excellent at making sure these were met. Nonetheless, I will not be visiniting again any time soon.
Truffle!
We came to this restaurant for its truffle menu and, I must say, it was very good and generously shaved onto our dishes. The service although attentive was lacking in enthusiasm. I think the waiters were trying to be fine dining when really the restaurant is a neighbourhood Italian. Not cheap though although the truffle shavings were generous. We all had truffle so will have to return to have a clearer idea of the rest of the menu. For truffle, it is a good place!
Be the first to ReplyThe worst meal of our visit to London
The offer of soup was green pea or minestrone. We chose the minestrone, however, when it arrived it looked and tasted like the green pea soup with a few minestrone type veg thrown in. We both ordered pasta dishes - both were disappointing; my dish especially so. It was sea bass ravioli. The pasta was thick and heavy but worst of all, the sauce tasted as if someone had dropped a pot of pepper into the sauce. It was not at all enjoyable. Nobody came to our table to inquire how the food was. I couldn't finish the meal. When the plate was collected I explained how disappointing the meal was. The person I spoke to, who looked like the senior member of staff, told me I should have informed him at the start of my meal and there was nothing he could do about it now!! No apology or concern shown. I thought at the very least we would have been given our coffee as complimentary, but no, not even a small gesture of complimentary coffee. It was a very expensive meal, with poor food and poor service.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing
A terrible evening, alas. Bad service. Horrible food. My starter was meant to be minestrone, but I got a bowl of rather goopy unidentifiable tasteless green slop. The main course was leathery veal milanese with a miserly portion of tired rocket and tomatoes. Pudding was half melted and sloppy lemon sorbet. Over-priced and over-rated. We went to this restaurant a few years back. We've returned in hope - and it's still terrible. Why do so many people go here? It's a mystery.
