Duke's Waikiki Honolulu Reviews from The Last Year
### Disappointing Brunch Experience at Duke's Waikiki I
### Disappointing Brunch Experience at Duke's Waikiki I recently visited Duke's Waikiki for breakfast and was unfortunately let down by the experience. The brunch quality has noticeably declined, and the waiters and staff seemed more focused on tips than providing good service. Additionally, the wait time was excessively long, ranging from 30 minutes to an hour. The prices are also way too high for what you get at brunch. I would recommend skipping brunch and perhaps trying Duke's for lunch or dinner instead.
Just putting it out there, I've been to Dukes several times
Just putting it out there, I've been to Dukes several times over the years. Iconic spot; love the ambiance. Lots to be desired though....you have two options for seating at Dukes. Fight the masses and hope you can get the open seating/bar side/patio, or wait 45+ mins for the more formal side. I circled the open seating side while we waited and never could get a table. Totally waste. The menu on the more formal side is hugely disappointing. Steaks and prime rib were overcooked/tough. They have a salad bar that has amazing potential, but little substance. It's like $9 to add on to an entree or ~$30 for it as your entree. There were like 4 side dishes (a pasta salad, etc) and then a bunch of lettuce/toppings. They're really missing an opportunity to make that salad bar a center point of their offering. Offer some meats/pizza, etc...beef up the salad bar. Open seating menu is way better. Lastly, it's stifling inside and largely outside...don't love sweating through my meals. Service was pretty good, view is nice if you can get a table overlooking or on the patio; but good luck. We were in the first row of tables overlooking the patio. Probably would never eat at Dukes again unless I could sit on the bar side.
I loved Duke's, during my recent stay in Waikiki.
The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, and the view was simply breathtaking. The staff was incredibly attentive and professional, and the food was quite enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed sitting at the bar and engaging with other fellow travelers in conversation. I like to give a big shout out to Kirk, who demonstrated exceptional skill in crafting delicious drinks and great fun customer service. Throughout my five-day stay in Waikiki, Duke's became my go-to destination, especially after my hotel bar at the Royal Hawaiian closed at 11:00 PM. The convenient location, just two minutes away from my accommodation, made it an ideal spot to continue the evening's festivities. I also had the pleasure of dining at Duke's during the day and had the opportunity to meet some wonderful fellow travelers. I highly recommend Duke's to anyone who likes a good time. The stunning views, great drinks, and some American cuisine make it a truly exceptional establishment. However, I must mention one minor concern: THE TEMPERATURE inside the restaurant, particularly in the bar area, was uncomfortable EXTRA HOT. I believe investing in a more efficient air conditioning system would greatly enhance the overall comfort of your guests. Aside from this minor issue, I had an absolutely wonderful time at Duke's.
Amazing Coconut Shrimp, Burgers and the classic Mai Tai's.
The service was also amazing.
Dukes is always fun.
We have been to several of their locations and it's always pretty predictable. The ambiance is relaxed, there is music and the Waikiki location is beach front. Dukes is open late which is great for vacation schedule. The staff is all very friendly and the service is good. The food is consistently good. We had nachos, salad, calamari and a burger. All of it was good but shockingly the salads were our favorite.

First - I should note that when arriving at Duke's you have two choices: casual (outside - burgers, nachos and such) or a more upscale steak/seafood experience). We opted for the more upscale experience and we had a great time and enjoyed our meal! A terrific evening out in Waikiki. Duke's is sort of a must-do in Honolulu. So... we did it and we bravely did it without reservations! :) We waited well over an hour on a Sunday night but it was worth the wait -- the food was really good. We had a great server named Scotty who was friendly, efficient, and made great recommendations on what we should have to eat and all were rock solid. The Hula Pie for dessert is a don't miss. I had the Ono special and it was cooked beautifully. Came with rice and vegetables -- all were great. And I kept it classic and had a Piña Colada. Lovely! The place is BUSY. But we were seated in a quiet area (which we appreciated). As busy as it was Scotty had it all under control and once we were seated the service was fast, friendly and excellent. Lovely evening out in Honolulu and great shopping in the building where the restaurant is located as well. Bonus!
Ate here a few months ago and definitely would go again.
Good menu and service. Did not have a reservation and only waited about 20 minutes.

Great place right on the beach front and with plenty of surf and sun views. Dukes is a staple for great food and drinks, with fantastic service continuing the *Aloha spirit. The restaurant is a major chain stretching all over Ca/Hi featuring *Duke Kahanamoku. Who is the God father of surfing and water sports. Their most famous locations are here in Wikiki, Malibu/CA., Huntington Beach. Their menu isn't just bar food but healthy options like (Macadamia Hummus and Pita, Salads, Falafel Sandwich). They also, have great local breakfasts, tacos, sandwiches, and burgers. The servers are great, like I mentioned, and they are so nice. Mahalo and Enjoy!
Overall meh.
Food is comparable to The Cheesecake Factory. Small menu and limited options for dinner. Also, made a reservation but was put on a waitlist. Not worth the wait.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Duke's today! Poke tacos, fish and chips, the lunch buffet, and the Rebel salad were all great. The place is always packed and yet the service was wonderful. We enjoyed Mai Tai's, Pina Coladas, and Lava Flows. We topped it off by sharing a dessert, the famous Hula Pie! Great ending to a fast lunch! Make your reservations early! They are always booked!
Icon of a restaurant
When visiting Waikīkī you have to visit Dukes at least once. We came for lunch and was a table of 9. We did book in advance to ensure we had a table which is advisable. We had drinks at the bar beforehand which have this silly rule you can only buy 2 drinks in one go. As we were a large table we were able to try a number of dishes with the high lights being the panko-crusted calamari and the rib and chicken plate. The drinks are good, there is a great pineapple cider to try. The staff were friendly and helpful. The prices are on the higher side but it is to be expected.
Beach vibes with excellent fare
You can’t beat a Duke’s (any of the 6) for a view and a chill beach vibe. The one on Waikiki lived up to expectations. Excellent food, excellent service (Travis was amazing) and ambiance. They feature two menus. The “fancier” one was great. The mahi was cooked perfectly. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone delicious. Recommend for a romantic dinner!
Wonderful and relaxing
Lunch next to the beach? Yes, please! We were able to sit as close to the beach as was possible. Our lunch and drinks were fresh and full of flavor. The overall ambiance was wonderful, and relaxing.
Amazing waiter. OK food. Joshua made the experience.
Waiter was 5* - Ordered a cheeseburger and nachos. The nachos "forgot" Salsa which we asked for extra for, and the original dip it comes with was also missed, and drinks were wrong (which we just drank anyway as we felt like we was being too fussy). However, The waiter - Joshua made it up another star, he was so kind and amazing with a big smile. Shame the kitchen staff couldn't live up to his waitering.
Dukes
Buffet was great and waitress was very attentive we had no wait and great views very organized and clean. Loved the fruit and coffee
Awesome food and views
Great food, drinks and ambience! Be warned the seating situation can be difficult it’s first come first serve if you find an empty table you get lucky.
You gotta try the Hula Pie!
Dukes is insanely popular...so much so that the place books out weeks in advance. Take the hint and book 4-6 weeks in advance of your arrival into Waikiki. They do walk-ins but you'll generally be facing a considerable wait for a table. Decor is very much consistent with what I'd call beaching - palm frond umbrellas above solid wooden tables and chairs. There is a buffet area off to the side where they have a salad bar - breads, pastas, salads etc ( an extra $9 on top of mains but you can order on its own for ~$30 ). We were promptly shown to our table, seated, and provided with menus and tap water. Service can be a bit patchy but this is forgiveable when you realise that your server is looking after a whole section of tables and is constantly trying to look after everyone. We had 2 x salad bars, a terriyaki steak, and a huli chicken, both with salad bar. My chicken was moist, cooked beautifully, and delicious. The steak was a winner as well. The salad bar gets smashed like all buffets do...but is semi-regularly refreshed so there is plenty of food available. All of that aside, you come here as Dukes is famous for its Hula Pie. Its $14 of dessert heaven for which a single serve comfortably fed the 4 of us for dessert...its HUGE! We're talking choc covered macadamia ice cream cake slathered in fudge, whipped cream, and crushed nuts. Totally scrumptious :) Now pricing isn't cheap but not that expensive either. Most mains are around $30 which seems to be about average in most places that aren't fine dining. Its expensive when we convert back to AUD but that's just the joys of having a poor exchange rate...everything becomes expensive quickly. Overall a great meal in good surroundings. Dukes is definitely worth a visit and is recommended by us.
Yummy Dinnet
Had dinner here. Food was fantastic and adding the salad bar was worth it. The view is great and our server did a great job as well. The live music wasn’t very good but that did not really affect our dinner or review.
Family Trip
The food, location and vibe were great. This place is laidback with multiple options for food. Staff was friendly and attentive.
Great Food and Great Atmosphere
The food was fantastic and so was the wait staff. I probably had the best steak that I have had on a long time. It is a little pricey, but not terrible. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
Very basic food so nothing crazy, but all still really good
Very basic food so nothing crazy, but all still really good and huge portions. The coconut shrimp was fantastic! Get there early though! The wait can be super long.
Fun, a few vegan options and a great view! It is iconic
Fun, a few vegan options and a great view! It is iconic and is a must do if you are in Waikiki.
Nice View. So, so food.
Dukes was okay. The food was so, so. Kids had the buffet which was basic. Some cold salads were a bit warm. Other hot foods were only warmish. For the cost of the buffet it wasn’t worth it. The beach view was nice. Our server was friendly and efficient. I would try other places for the cost of Dukes.
Duke's Waikiki is a good place for brunch on Sundays.
They serve an all you can eat buffet from 7am to 11am. Brunch includes a 3 choices of prepared omelette selections, code, teas or sodas. They have salad and a good variety of fresh local fruit. Banana pancakes and cinnamon swirl French toast with coconut cream syrup. They offer plenty of protein items such as bacon, Portuguese sausage and chicken sausage links along scrambled eggs. They food was fresh and hot. Service was excellent. Our server came around frequently refilling our beverages and clearing out any dirty dishes. The ambiance was nice. We sat outside under the umbrellas and enjoyed the views of the ocean and beach side. Nice, soft music was playing in the background. Duke's is a great local establishment that's been around for years! Definitely worth checking out Duke's if you're in the downtown area of Honolulu at Waikiki Beach. They are right next to the famous pink historic hotel The Royal Hawaiian.
Dukes is always a good time and has a great location.
Whether dining for brunch or a later meal, there's something on the menu for everyone. The service is great due to the up eat wait staff. And the ambiance is perfect for a vacation, lively but not too loud. I try to come every time I come to the island. And the one thing I get every single time is a fish entree and a mai tai. They're always perfect.
A “Must Do” in Waikiki!
We went to Duke’s on a Sunday afternoon and we had a great time! Great service, great live music, and delicious food! Highly recommend!!
Duke's was an awesome experience X2, as we dined at lunch
Duke's was an awesome experience X2, as we dined at lunch and early evening. Central Waikiki location between Kalakaua Ave and the beach, an easy walk for most hotels. The service was stellar on both locations, and we were seated within 10 minutes without reservations. Hulu Hulu Chicken was a treat and a Hawaiian favorite, crispy coconut shrimp and a pulled pork sandwich with mango BBQ sauce. The dinner salad, cabbage slaw and French fries were tasty too. A huge draft beer selection, a broad wine selection and a killer Kimo's Original Hula Pie desert. Duke's features a huge buffet as well, reasonably priced for being in a Waikiki location. Duke's surfer theme restaurant was full of historic photos of celebrities and Hawaiian history. Several days a week during happy hour the back patio features a fabulous local band, packed with locals and tourists enjoying Island tunes.

We had lunch here on VALENTINE DAY and the weather, atmosphere and FOOD was EXCELLENT!
Drinks and a views were fantastic! Finding a table is hard
Drinks and a views were fantastic! Finding a table is hard at sunset so get there early! Service was quick and the bartenders made delicious drinks!
Highly recommend Dukes! Great staff, food, and overall
Highly recommend Dukes! Great staff, food, and overall environment. Very reasonably priced. I went 4 times during my stay and will forever come back. Every day that I came there was always some sort of breakfast, lunch, or dinner buffet. Drinks are great would recommend the mimosa flight. Thank you Dukes for the best experience!
Dukes is a crowd favorite.
You can come for breakfast lunch or dinner and find yourself some yummy food. Breakfast burrito is a must! However I was annoyed at the amount of tortillas chips served, don't be shy, gimme more. Standard breakfast plate was delicious if you're not feeling too adventurous and wanting a local favorite like a loco moco. Service was just okay! Everything was made better by the views.
Expensive but delicious food and pristine service.
Best first night meal in Waikiki. We are very glad we ate here
It's an amazing location and the place is nice.
It's loud and crowded because they have a ton of people there but in a good way. The service is decent. They're very busy and clearly don't have enough people working there but the servers were all quite nice. But the food sucks. Bland, warm instead of hot, overcooked, etc. It's a factory and like McDonalds they're focused on volume, not quality.
Quite good!
Lovely atmosphere and very good food. The service was excellent and they had live music in the afternoon which was appreciated. The drinks were well-made and overall no complaints. I suggest the macadamia nut hummus!
Why weren't the mai tais better?
I had been told that drinks (mai tais in particular) at sunset at Duke's were a "must" when on Oahu. I like a good mai tai and have mixed my own at home. The mai tai I got at Duke's was poor. There was a bit of a fruit flavor, but the predominant flavor was neither rum nor fruit but kerosene. Perhaps they've switched to a very cheap rum? I went back there another night with some friends. I gave the mai tai another try. I had a different bartender than the first night and had high hopes for a better drink. Nope. Kerosene again. A friend who tried a sip of my mai tai characterized it as "undrinkable." If this is your claim to fame, Duke's, you really need to do it a little better. We got food and it was decent. One disappointment (beyond the bizarrely bad mai tais) was the fact that the barrier surrounding the patio seating means that, even though you managed to get a table at the front of the patio at sunset, you can't actually see the sunset as you drink your expensive, kerosene-flavored drink at sunset.
Nice restaurant in Honolulu
Great steaks and drinks in a very Hawaiian atmosphere. Good fish and steaks selection. Mskr dutr you stop by for lunch or dinner
Good spot for food or drinks
Visited Duke's many times during our stay. Had breakfast buffet most mornings - it will set you up for the day. Great choice of food. Staff are attentive and place is very clean. Would highly recommend. Had food there in the evening - again great service and good food. Hula Pie is massive and has to be tried. Also went there just for drinks - really busy - every time we went in there it was packed - loads of staff and you'll never go thirsty or hungry there.
Lunch by the beach
We stayed at the Outrigger so we had lunch several times at Duke’s since it was super convenient when we were spending the time at the beach. Note this place is always busy which means the wait staff is working non stop so please be patient. Wait staff we had was great and the food was good. We had a great view of the beach but the only issue is the walkin and find your own table, not a fan of that. You will have people just stand by your table if they think you are leaving which is super annoying. Dukes should change that.
Go on Taco Tuesday.
Went for lunch on Taco Tuesday; food was decent at a good price as it is discounted for Taco Tuesday. Special pricing on drinks too. Worth a visit.
Hula Pie!
We go to Dukes each time we are at the Royal Hawaiian. Always good food, service and drinks! We had the traditional burger, fish tacos and nachos. Also, of course, hula pie! Today we were able to see my favorite Hawaiian band “Maunalua”

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
