A great find, a rare ambiance with a daring Menu.
Wow what a great little find, we walked past it first as the small lettering on the window is hardly visible at night, the 96 clinched it, up a few steps, hesitation, is this the door? (again no sign) we opened it to a rush of warmth and noise, yep the instant atmosphere was great. They found us a table for two (it's small but busy, best to book) and we settled in. We perused the menu, we needed some explanations, and our waitress went through the menu with gusto. We selected 5 dishes to share, and a glass of house red each, this wine 🍷 was excellent. I also tried the Craft Beer later which was also really nice. The dishes did not disappoint, nicely presented, great combinations and delicious. Grading it highly the dauphine potatoes could have been slightly better, more robust! When we discussed the food after which was the favourite dish from the 5 we ordered we had a best 3!! A definite recommend, I hope you enjoy it was much as we did.

Arriving at what at first appeared to be an ordinary house, we were quickly taken into a noisy, very popular establishment. I can now see why. Our host asked the waitress for a sampling food experience and we were not disappointed. Every dish was so tasty, well presented and had you keen for the next dish. The great thing is that the food is sourced locally and is fresh. As a result the menu changes regularly. Also, our waitress was excellent and very knowledgeable about the dishes and wine. We will be back in a few weeks time for sure.

This restaurant is an incredible jewel. Watch for it to receive a Michelin star. It certainly deserves one. And we’ve just returned from Brussels where we dined at a multi star One. We start with a refreshing cocktail of berries and liquor. It’s perfect for a summer night. The menu is small and if you were with a group, you could try everything on the menu. All items are meant to be shared. We have shrimp and cabbage. It’s light and the sauce is arresting, light and entrancing. It surprises in a good way. An amazing beginning. Our ravioli stuffed with lamb is also not your typical filled pasta. It is light, the sauce also light, the pasta Al dente. At both tables besides us, we notice pork tenderloin is a large offering that looks delicious and perfectly cooked. My fav is summer squash and blossoms. It is zucchini in multiple forms, crispy, fresh, a tangle of flavours. Our last is a deep fried cheese and fresh tomatoes. As all above, the sauces enhance and their freshness sings. We have a luscious peach cake topped with thin slices of cheese. The well baked crumb outside is just right for a tender inside. Wow. What a chef. Serving staff are aswell attentive and helpful.
Be the first to ReplySuperb Tapas it a tiny restaurant on Harbord St
Excellent, delicious and varied tapas served in a tiny restaurant which is quite hard to find, The only indication there is a restaurant there is the word Dreyfus written on the glass of the bay window. It was packed and very busy but ask dishes were delicious
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food, fantastic service
One of the best meals I've had, great service and fantastic food, could have done with a nice coffee after but no facilities for that but otherwise perfect! Peter, our waiter was excellent, vibe and acoustics great, for a small space very little noise and the food was beyond!
Be the first to ReplyAffordable Top 100 Best Restaurant in Toronto
If you are looking for a restaurant that is on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants in Toronto, either you are prepared to pay $200 per person or you have to line up starting at 4pm for dinner. We finally found Dreyfus which can take dinner reservations at 5:30pm, which is early, but okay if the food is good. Please make sure you match with the street number as this restaurant does not have any signage, I almost ran upstairs to a guitar shop. The food have not disappointed us and all reasonably priced. We ordered "tomatoes & shrimps salad" with thinly sliced green tomatoes dashed with first grade olive oil, Sweet Bread with crunchy oats, Squash, and Pork Medallion, finished with Cream puff. Every dish is elevated with fine presentation. For the 2 of us, we paid about $180 including tax and gratuities. Servers are friendly yet professional, worth paying good gratuities!

My husband and I were in Toronto for the weekend and since we like new culinary experiences, we had made reservations at the Dreyfus (top 100 list) at 7:30. We took a cab and we’re stuck in traffic therefore we’re a little late (7:10) when we arrived at the address. We texted the restaurant prior to our arrival and everything seemed to be fine. The Dreyfus had no signage therefore we were delayed even more trying to find the place. We finally opened a glass door to find a very very loud environment. People were yelling at each other across tables which instantly gave me a headache. The owner met us at the door right away to tell us how late we were. We explained that we couldn’t find the restaurant. He said he wasn’t sure if he still had a table but he would check. We were sat at a small table by the door, and we were presented with menus. We could barely hear our waitress speak. We were explained that the menu is sharing therefore we started with the shrimp and scallop. Within less than five minutes the shrimps arrived followed by the scallops. We didn’t have any wine at the table yet so we asked what wine would pair with our selections and she replied white wine. (Wow they had nothing kinds, white and red) The shrimp dish was ok but the scallop presentation was terrible. There was something crunchy and a flavour of bitters. Upon tasting the scallops, my husband and I looked at each other and knew there was no way we could finish this dinner. They were ready for us because right away, they cleared our table handed our coats and off we went. And that was our experience at the Dreyfus and yes I did tell them on my way out that they should get some signage.
Be the first to ReplyFANTASTIC! Shout out to Peter who was a wonderful waiter!
Waiters can get a bad rep. They are trying to upsell and unfortunately these days with labour shortages and rising costs are increasingly stretched to turn tables. That is NOT Peter who was our fantastic waiter for our Friday night meal. On hearing we were foodies and would love to hear his recommendations he offered to personally curate a menu for us and match the wine given our preferences. He nailed it. (What a wonderful way of slyly upselling but making the guest feel special - other waiters take note!) Our appetisers were the Tuna Carpaccio and the Steak Tartare. Tuna is 100% dish of the year for us. The caponata perfectly complimented the tuna with its oily cherry tomatoes, eggplant and peppers. Steak Tartare is a credit to the chef who's skill is on display in balancing the creamy dressing with shemiji mushrooms and beemer cheese. Any other chef would have ruined it but it was divine. Bucatini was peppery and wonderfully hearty. The cod was cooked to perfection. We ended up skipping dessert as we were so full, and Peter was happy to let the Pastry team know - absolutely no issue. After a fantastic meal with an incredible bottle of wine, we got chatting to our neighbouring table. On seeing this, Peter curated a shot for the 5 of us to cheers and enjoy together. The perfect touch to finish off a 2022 top meal of the year!
Be the first to ReplyAcceptable Food But Terrible Service
Our party of three, including a friend from Vancouver, went for an early dinner in early August. The food was not bad but the service was terrible! This restaurant simply doesn’t know what hospitality means. We had a patio reservation but they made us feel as if we were “crashing.” We asked to be given a table not directly in the sun but were told we had no choice. Then they put the three of us at the end of a long bench to share a communal space with another couple. The patio is the most unattractive I’ve ever seen with no plants, flowers or any natural vegetation to beautify the space. We had to wipe our table because of the dust gathered from passing cars. With a few exceptions maybe, most of the staff including the owners and our uncouth server looked totally unhappy with long faces and an attitude problem. It made us wonder why they should bother to remain in the business at all. No smiling faces even though they were all maskless and nobody ever said to us: “Welcome to our restaurant.” If they didn’t even enjoy their jobs themselves, how could one expect them to accommodate and please their customers? If not for the $20 per person cancellation charge, we would have left right away. Although the food was not bad, we found the menu very limited in choice. Pompette in Little Italy is much better! Worst of all, when I submitted a candid review on their website, not only did they not publish it, but instead sent me an arrogant email hurling insults! My friends and I heard a lot of good things about this restaurant but were totally disappointed and appalled with our experience. They certainly do not deserve a spot on Canada’s Best 100 - Canada and Toronto can do much better! Needless to say, we will not ever return again!
Be the first to ReplyWatch out
We arrived at the restaurant and it was stifling hot. We asked what the problem was and they said that they need to keep the front door open because they are serving outside and the kitchen puts out a lot of heat and they are sorry the dining area is so hot. We told them we would could not have dinner in this heat and they said they understand. Upon arriving back at our hotel we received a message that they charged our credit card $40 for a missed reservation. When we called the restaurant the manger said he could not do anything to help us and to write their corporate office or Resy. Beware if Resy askes you for a credit card when you are making a reservation, this could happen to you.
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous, mouth-watering French cuisine that met and exceeded our expectations! ( LONG REVIEW )
A favourite of the late Anthony Bourdain. Ever since it first opened it's door over half a decade ago, Montreal's gastronomic temple, " Joe Beef " has been consistently ranked among Canada's top 5 best restaurant. This distinction also made it one of the hardest table to score in the country. With that in mind, when a key ex-alumni of this culinary icon, Chef-de-cuisine, Zach Kolomeir, decided to relocate from Montreal to Toronto 'for love' and opened up his own restaurant - " Dreyfuss ", foodies in this city were thrilled and ecstatic. They flocked to this new ' Best Bistro in Town ' to pay homage to Chef's Kolomeir inventive and delightful French cuisine. In the process, making Dreyfuss one of the toughest reservation in town....second only to " Alo "! With the recent easing of Covid restriction and armed with booster shots, my family decided to resume our regular family dinner gathering. For our first such outing, we elected to try our luck with Dreyfuss. Once again, thanks to my daughter for doing the dirty work on my behalf, she managed to secure a priced week-end table for us, over a month in advance! A cozy, intimate and narrow space coupled with warm smiles under tight fitting face masks greeted our party of six. Before seating us, a stringent check of our vaccine certificates was carried out. After settling in our snug corner table, small and condense menu containing some intriguing culinary work-of-art were handed to us by a couple of friendly staff. The portfolio of dishes utilized ingredients supplied by well sourced small scale farms, fisheries, smokers and artisinnal cheese makers......etc. Every course were explained individually in detail by our most attentive and knowledgeable server who actually took a seat next to us to make her presentation! Adopting a communal approach by presenting small homey plates for sharing, our strategy to address this formula resulted in us going berserk and ordered up almost every item on the menu! The only dish we by-passed was a near hundred dollar per person caviar course! Our evening started off with a range of splendid and tasty appetizer tidbits on plates that ended up covering every inch of our table landscape. They included: - House smoked salmon, black trumpet mushrooms, Sauce Diane. - Runner beans, raw beef & Louis d'Or. - Cold Borscht & poached wild Argentinian Shrimp. - Pommes Paillasson & truffed chopped liver - Broiled New Brunswick Oysters Rockefeller. - Linton Pasture Berkshire Pork Belly & last years Sour Kraut Only three protein main dishes were offered and they all looked most appealing. Hence, we ended up ordering all three. They were: - Roasted Ontario Veal loin, medium rare & Endive gratinee - Baked wild ocean Fluke, creme aux delices de lar mer - Braised whole lamb shoulder in Red Wine, Frites and Tarragon Garlic Mayo No compete meal especially a French dinner can end without some sumptuous dessert. For this finale we selected: - Mille-Feuille aux Noisettes ( Extra-Large ) - Olive Oil Cake, Rhubarb & Vermouth Majority of the dishes chosen managed to wow us with their amazing deliciousness. One can sense a lot of loving thoughts were put into the creation of such tasty and well balanced dishes! For me, the undisputed star of the evening was the Chocolate and Hazel nut Mille-Feuille. One bite and I was lifted into Seventh Heaven. The ultra buttery and super crisp and delicately thin pastry, the smooth and intense chocolate filling.....Wow!! So light and fattening and yet sooo gooood! Too many of the delectable savoury dishes deserve a mention. For me, the 'out-of-this-world' tasty seafood creme sauce that paired with the baked Fluke was the definite killer...making it one of the best tasting fish dish I had during these past couple of years! The Pomme Paillasson and Truffed chopped liver was another amazing stand-out. Those crispy potato columns was mind boggling addictive especially when smothered generously with the chopped liver pate. The Runner beans with Beef Tartar was unique and most enjoyable. Great textural contrast and interplay between the beans, the raw beef and the creamy dressing. Another winner was the cold Borscht. Light and refreshing and one of the tastiest beet dish I have encountered! Even the uber-crispy Frites were superb and deserve a stand alone mention.......and I can go on and on with my accolades. Sadly, there were a couple of slight let-downs. First, the Braised Lamb Shoulder. Though fork tender and tasty, the accompanying red wine sauce could be made a bit more complex and intense. The other ho-hum dish was the pricey Broiled Oyster Rockefeller. Pretty ordinary tasting and overwhelmed by the spinach dressing. The latter over-powered the tad small New Brunswick oyster varietal May be a larger, meatier West Coast Virginicas might yield a better outcome? Overall, a most enjoyable dining experience though the noise level caused by the back ground music and the patrons' chatting was a bit unbearable and suffocating at times.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but don’t go alone
I reserved this restaurant many weeks ago because all the reviews were so positive. They are right, the food is wonderful. However, if you go alone, as I did, they sit you on a stool at what they call their stand-up bar. That is because it is more comfortable to stand than to sit with no leg room at all. So if you have a friend, go and enjoy (the trout and the chocolate dessert were both wonderful).
Be the first to ReplyA must visit but book ahead.
The buzz was strong as I entered the non addressed door to Dreyfus. Not crazy loud, friendly and happy. The room is cute and seems to meander. The tables are still nicely spaced. I was greeted by many each friendlier than the one before. I had a cozy table and asked for a wine list....there is none and that’s all good because Carmelina knows her bottles. Just describe and it is brought to you. Everything is by the glass and I love it. Keegan was around the most and a ton of fun, thanks Keegan! The food is simple and so thoughtful, perfectly cooked by Chef Kolomeir. There are fun dishes like the Cubano and glorious dishes like a classic Oyster Rockefeller. I can’t tell you what to eat because the menu changes non stop so try everything that tickles your fancy. Thanks all and see you soon. Please follow @joannasable on instagram for more food and travel
