Very friendly staff and atmosphere but the menu has been
Very friendly staff and atmosphere but the menu has been changing so much lately, it's just not the same DR Smood as before. It's very embarrassing when a customer has to bring their own coconut milk for coffee because they discontinued the coco milk. Bring back the coconut milk! I can no longer have smoothies, hot chocolate and coffees because of the lack of coconut milk. Also, 50% of the time I come in the coffee machine is broken - just a suggestion, buy a new one. I used to love to drop in the evening for a hot chocolate and some fresh pastry - nowdays the cafe closes at 4pm everyday! Dr Smood has been progressively getting worse. Very sad

Bring back the small avocado toast option! I used to love coming here all the time for the avocado toast but they now only offer a large portion consisting of 4 pieces which is way too much and I will not order.
Be the first to Replynew sandwich menu is terrible (tuna melt ).
staff is great. modifications or requesting the usual menu items is almost impossible.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing experience.
The space is nice but service was awful. Went mid afternoon with a coworker, was not busy, plenty of open tables. Ordered blueberry matcha latte, strawberry smoothie and caesar salad. The blueberry matcha latte was ready within 10 minutes but looked muddy, no separation of layers and no milk. Waited 20 minutes for the strawberry smoothie. Waited 40 minutes and still no caesar salad. Went to ask for it and the cashier had forgotten about it. I had to leave by then so they issued a refund for the salad. There were three people working, not paying attention, only 4 customers in the whole place including us. It's a shame for the brand because I had good experience at the Miami-Wynwood location. Cannot recommend the Lexington one.

This is an overpriced, overhyped, cafe with an underwhelming service. The food tastes bland, is less in quantity & prices are like an inflation. The cafe atmosphere is kinda nice & it's decent to sit in but otherwise I was disappointed.

Ordered a skinny vanilla late and got attitude for using Starbucks terms. Then when i got my coffee i couldn't taste any vanilla. Went to say something and got even more attitude! Was told it was in there. Had to speak with someone else who was very nice and helped me. I won't be back just because of the attitude. Coffee was just ok.

Barely any micro greens on top of avocado and smoked salmon toast. Will not be back.
Be the first to ReplyFood: 2/5 | Service: 4/5 | Ambience: 4/5 | Value: 1/5I
Food: 2/5 | Service: 4/5 | Ambience: 4/5 | Value: 1/5I ordered the cacao protein smoothie, in spite of the absolutely ridiculous price for a small protein shake, and it tasted like clumpy unsweetened cocoa powder blended with water. The only saving grace for Dr. Smood is that there is a nice interior with good seating options, and my smoothie was ready for exactly when the online ordering system said it would be available for pick-up. My friend got the avocado toast, which I didn't taste myself, but it was very small for the price, and he said it was extremely average. If you're looking for a tasty and reasonably priced protein smoothie, I'd look elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyLocation is convenient, menu is healthy and fresh
Location is convenient, menu is healthy and fresh ingredients focused. Staff were super friendly too!I dropped by for a quick breakfast, not alot of healthy options for brekkie around grand central so decided to give this place a try.I ordered the curried egg salad avocado toast. It was so colorful! The avocado was fresh, the turmeric really popped against the color of the avocado spread. The bread was a large piece of rustic bread that was on the crunchier side. The food was yummy but it was a little bit expensive considering the portion for $14 for a small avocado toast. It's a good healthy food option but be ready to pay up!
Be the first to ReplyWe've been frequenting Smood for a few years now.
Lately, service sucks - I mean, worse than Starbucks and definitely worse than my local coffee shop - and they've gotten sloppy with preparation. Our two most recent visits have resulted in spending upwards of around $60 on 4 hawaj shakes and an avocado toast. None of these items were done properly. The avocado was sparse and slapped onto barely toasted spelt bread. The hawaj shakes were first given without whipped cream or toppings because they ran out (it was only noon...) and second time given without toppings. It was noticeable that the recipes were different each time - making me wonder if they were out of ingredients for the shakes themselves, too. This wouldn't have been so big a problem for me had I been told they're out of some things ahead of time. They had the chance to. I stood at the register for a good 4 minutes before the cashier took my order because she was talking about something presumably (from listening in as they communicated) unimportant with a co-worker. It's not like I was hiding or anything, I was wearing bright red and standing right next to the counter facing her.Tldr, Smood has lost it's magic. I was fine paying a ridiculous amount for hot chocolate and tumeric ginger lattes when they was served with care and tocotrienols. Sometimes it was a meal replacement with how full I felt afterwards - so I could justify it all. Now, it's just Starbucks with worse regulation and service. I never leave satiated. If there's not going to be many of the ingredients listed on the menu in the dishes and drinks you serve, you should just close up shop.
Be the first to ReplyPre-pandemic I loved this place.
Yes, it's pricey but that's because the food is wholesome and natural. Now I'm a little less keen because the menu seems smaller, they eliminated the avo toast/soup combo, and it's just pretty slow behind the counter.
Be the first to ReplyGreat location.
Great staff. Deducted one point because sadly their hours still stop at 4pm. As someone who works till the afternoon, I basically never make it to their open hours. I miss the days where Dr. Smood was opened till 7 or 8pm. That said, the staff here rocks! So friendly and so helpful!!
Be the first to ReplyThe cold brew is watered down drip at best.
Very disappointed for $5. Had to ask for a cup without ice just to taste the coffee.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed.
I have had good smoothies, I've had bad ones, but I've never paid $12 for the literal WORST smoothie I have ever had in my life. I ordered the green protein smoothie. It was warm and small for the price. It also tasted SO bad. I'm not exaggerating, it tasted like eating protein powder straight from the container (and not in a good way). I couldn't even stomach it. Please don't order this smoothie or you will throw it up. The food portions are tiny and overpriced. You pay $14 for a bowl of kale. I'm not joking. None of the salads on the menu (priced at $14-15) include protein. You can add protein for another $5-6 on top of your dry and small bowl of overpriced leaves. I have never once in my life paid this much money for this amount of food. It is impossible that you'll be full on one of their salads (even if you pay extra to add protein). Still, the bowl is aesthetically pleasing and fresh.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible.
The tuna penne is so basic and lacks any substance. It also tastes like it has no salt and lacks flavor. Wouldn't recommend this place at all, maybe for a coffee.
Be the first to ReplyWAY too slow - pretty good lunch options though.
Whole place is run off of a toaster, a cold bar, and a guy scooping out turmeric chicken salad. I recommend going on Mondays/Fridays, when NY'ers are sleeping (aka "working from home") and midtown is less crowded.I'd recommend the company introduce more hot options (e.g. make the cold pasta hot)
Be the first to ReplyGot a rice and spinach bowl and I was offered a protein
Got a rice and spinach bowl and I was offered a protein which I soon learned was not included. At that price really SHOULD be. My "protein" which added $5 to the price of an already insanely overpriced salad (turmeric chicken) was literally a glob of turmeric sauce with a tiny piece of chicken in it. ONE piece! One bite-sized piece. $5 more. Salad was decent. Nothing special. Midtown lunch places are a rip-off, I get it. But some places go too far, and this place definitely does. Avoid unless you enjoy being taken advantage of.
Be the first to ReplyFood is great if you are willing to wait.
I had the Chicken turmeric sandwich and it was lovely. They do seem to be very busy with online orders so give yourself about 15 minutes wait time if you are going here. I made the mistake of trying an almond latté to get maximum 'health' score. That was a mistake. Normal milk from now on!
Be the first to ReplyDecent food, very small portions for the (high) price
Decent food, very small portions for the (high) price (comically tiny serving of oatmeal), especially relative to other options within 1-3 blocks either direction on Lexington, semi-engaged staff. Not awful - moderately healthy - but with a little effort you can do better at other spots nearby.
Be the first to ReplyI grabbed a hot cacao with the staff-recommended cashew
I grabbed a hot cacao with the staff-recommended cashew milk here, and WOW! It was incredibly delicious and rich and complex and, most of all, smooth(!), much moreso than I thought given the more natural ingredients. 'Twas sweet enough for my likings, too.10/10; would spend money here again.
Be the first to ReplyEveryone in food service is experiencing issues now, but
Everyone in food service is experiencing issues now, but this place is really bad. Three people behind the counter trying to find/fill orders on ipads with not a lot of success. Got an overpriced soup, tipped generously because everyone is trying and then got back to my office to take my first bite of cold soup (that was meant to be hot) and got a long black hair in that first bite. I do not feel like I purchased food from a "health" company.

I love having a clean, healthy food choice near the office! The food is delicious and always ready on time when I order through the Yelp app. Hard to go wrong here if you're a vegetarian or vegan, and even if you're not.
