Horrible treatment for people with food allergies, 0 empaths and no suitable options.
It was the worst experience I had, I am allergic to cow's milk protein and soy, I am a nursing mother and my baby is also alpv, so I have to bring my own suitable foods, unless they give me some option on site suitable, I do not bring my food, one of the girls who serves waited for me to open my food container to tell me that I could not consume food that she will not buy there, for which I told her: well, can you offer me some option suitable for I, who am allergic to soy and soy, said no, but before she came to me to tell me that, her other partner told her: you were really expecting it!! My husband was using, we were customers who consumed every trip, but his 0 empathy made me have the worst experience of my life! I will never return and I do not recommend it because it is not the first person to be treated like this.

Stopped in Cafe Dona Nena for a latte this morning before a day of shopping, eating and trying to stay out of trouble in San Jose… LOL Coffee is excellent, the employees super friendly, patient enough to help us with our broken Spanish! Highly recommend!

Too much lack of organization, they never took my order even though we said we wanted to have breakfast when we arrived, they also told us they would bring us the menu and take our order wherever we sat down, I asked if there was service outside, they told me yes and that they would bring us the menu, that the order was taken at the table, not at the bar. We waited more than half an hour sitting outside for them to take the orders of people who arrived much later than us and at their table! When I went to ask AGAIN, they answered me very rudely and apparently didn't care at all. Just be clear and if you guys don't want to give a good service, or at least a decent one, I don't understand why they are working in customer service. Why talk rudely to a costumer? I didn't even try anything but I wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend the place.

We were looking for a place to stop for shade after shopping at Plaza Artesano, and we’re glad we stumbled upon this place. Clean bathrooms upstairs (you need a key to get in). The drinks were good value—Four drinks cost about 290 pesos, but ask for light sugar, as they seemed to put a lot in. Would order again: Chai latte (very creamy and sweet however). Fresh mango smoothie.

Excellent coffee shop. Very safe and clean. Highly recommend visiting them for dinner. Easy walk or uber from hotel zone. Visited several times after dinner for walk back to ocean

Be the first to ReplyFantastic Cute & Fun Breakfast Spot
We saw this place on Yelp and found it for breakfast. It’s in old town San Jose right next to the Tropicana in Plaza Don Carlos. From what we discovered the Cafe Doña Nena is connected with the bakery La Panaderia Clyde, which is in the back of the plaza on the right. We asked at the Cafe about breakfast and the gentleman at the cafe directed us there. We ordered a turkey with mozzarella omelet and French toast with th berries & local honey and a chocolate donut. (Total $ 18 US) and an iced latte from the Cafe. Both brought everything to our table it the adorable open air courtyard with a very nice subtle water fountain. The food was 5 stars and the coffee was a little disappointing because they were out of vanilla but the gentleman working was very nice. We are older and would say we might prefer something a little more “Mexico” with full table service but the food was fantastic - seemed like my early 20’s millennial Daughter’s genre a bit more than ours lol

My son and I had 16 oz. iced chai lattes (MX$60 each) on a hot summer day, and they were delicious. They tasted like Oregon Chai lattes, which is probably the concentrate they used. We didn't order anything else, but the prices were reasonable, and the service was friendly.
